Lion - Installing Photosmart C4580 Printer

Does anyone now how to install a HP Photosmart C4580 printer on Lion?  I downloaded the printdrivers.  When I go to add the printer it tells me that the driver is available from Apple then after searching it tells me that the driver is currently unavailable and instructs me to go to the manufacturers website.  The HP website tells me to go to Apple.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

First of all, just want to check that after downloading the driver you did run the installer? I ask because there has been new users who download the driver but don't run the included installer, thinking that they can just browse to this downloaded file as you do in Windows.
If you did run the driver installer then when you get the message stating that the driver is available from Apple, do you still find that the Print Using menu is active and that you can click on "Select Printer Software"? If yes, then should be able to browse to the driver that you installed on the Mac.

  • Printing cards and labels on Photosmart C4580 printer

I couldn't find my particular problem using the search so I'm hoping for some answers here. I have a Photosmart C4580 printer connected to a Toshiba laptop running Vista with all the current updates. My problem is that I can't seem to get it to print on business card stock or addrress label stock. Here's the issue:
I use Word to create business cards to print onto business card stock. The instructions that came with the card stock say to do a test page on regular paper first to verify placement, which I do - everything looks perfect so I put a page of card stock in the feeder. The printer grabs the page and prints with the image offset towards the top of the page by about 1/4" so that the top of the card is above the edge of the cards. As the cards are repeated down the page, it shifts down slightly so that by the time it gets to the bottom of the page it's almost on the card, but still overlaps the top edge slightly. Printing onto regular paper works perfectly every time.
A similar thing happens printing address labels - again using Word to create the labels for either Avery 5267 or Avery 8161 label stock. On regular paper everything looks perfect, but feed a sheet of label stock in and the text is offest toward the top of the page. The last time I needed labels I was able to get it to print properly by printing one label at a time, then refeeding the page and printing the next one, then repeating until each label on the page was printed. When you're printing several pages of labels that takes a lot of time!
Is there something I need to do to get this printer to print cards and labels?

@ deblois 1089 - I will need a little more information to help out. What are the specifications of the labels? Do you have the measurements and the weight of the paper type? Thanks

  • Photosmart c4580 printing problems windows 7

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. My HP Photosmart C4580 prints 70% of the document correctly and the other 30% only prints the very top third of the characters on that line.  Any idea for the fix when the printer is only printing what appears to be the "first pass" of the print-head for any given line in a document?

    Hi there,
To make sure there are no software problems causing this try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://goo.gl/Ujpib
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!

  • Why can't I setup my HP Photosmart C4580 Printer with my Macbook?

Okay, first of all, I've got to say that this has to be one of the most troublesome pieces of computer hardware that I've ever had the misfortune of running across. The only thing that keeps me from going all "Office Space" on it, (as another frustrated user put it) is that I've had the printer since I got my Macbook in late 2008, and there have been huge stretches of time when it has worked more or less perfectly. However, each time I update my OS, or try to add the printer to a new computer, all **** breaks loose. This latest time has really taken the cake- as I've been messing with it consistently for several weeks and have not been able to use it at all.
I guess it began when I upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard around April. Prior to this the wi-fi printing had worked fine, but after this upgrade for some reason I could only print with the USB connected. Then, about a month ago I upgraded to OS X Lion, and I'm still unable to get the wi-fi printing to work.
The point I'm at now, is that I've downloaded what I believe to be the appropriate HP setup utility package, and went through that all the way through where it sets up the wireless functionality of the printer and it says to go to 'Print & Fax' in System Preferences and add the printer. So I do that, and I get to this point:
    Setting up 'Photosmart C4500 series
    [F559E3]...'
Software for this printer is available from Apple.
Would you like to download and install it?
... where I obivously click "Download and Install". At this point, I get a dialog that says "Finding software" for several minutes, and then says:
    Setting up 'Photosmart C4500 series
    [F559E3]...'
The software for this printer is currently unavailable.
Please contact the printer's manufacturer for the
    latest software.
... at this point the only option is "Cancel", and when I click that, I'm left with no printers in my list of printers. Likewise, if I don't click "Download and Install on the previous screen, it cancels the setup.
This leads me to believe that it may actually be an issue with Apple instead of HP at this point, but I'm not sure. Likewise, I've tried other options such as setting up the printer by it's IP address and by something called an HP Jetdirect - Socket, but those methods were unfruitful.
I feel like I should note that, when I go to "Add Printer", I'm presented with a list of both the USB connected version of my printer, and the "Bonjour Multifunction" version (wi-fi). So it seems that the computer is having no trouble at least detecting the printer, which has been a problem for me in the past.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Despite HP's statement that 10.7 is supported for the Photosmart C4580, there are no drivers for this.  I spoke to their Support Line and basically you need to buy a new printer.  Wow!  Wish I had known that before I upgraded to Lion.
HP does have a Trade-In and Trade-Up program.  Sounds like the newer model printers will also handle the AirPrint for your iPhone and iPads.

  • Installing Photosmart 8250 printer on a Windows 8.1 computer

Till recently, I ran the printer successfully on a Windows XP computer. However, I recently bought a Windows 8.1 computer. The installation CD supplied with the printer does not recognise Windows 8.1. I have downloaded the printer installation file hppiw.exe, which is supposed to provide access to up to date drivers. However, all this does is go through a Discovering Device process, then it shuts down.
Can anyone advise how to access & install a suitable printer driver?

  • Cannot get photosmart c4580 printer to work

My C4580 printer just stopped working one day and I've not been able to get it working again. I have tried it wirelessly and I have plugged the cable in and still doesn't work. I have tried downloading the printer drivers again but still no luck. The printers scan function works so I'm unsure if the problem is my laptop which is a good few years old.

  • HT3500 I have mosx Lion have no driver for my photosmart c4580 printer and the printer test page gives no ip address. How do I get my printer to work?

We bought a new Mac bookpro using the latest version of lion 10.8. We also have a c4580 photosmart printer and have bee unable to find a driver down load for this printer and our Macbook. We have tried to use u tube and other sites including Apple support to try to connect to our printer. We run a printer test page and the ip address comes up "not applicable". Do we need to connect the macbook to the router? What are we doing wrong? HP site will not give us a driver download. I have to buy it. Seems simplar to goand buy a new printer but this one is still good. Can anyone help? We are not as software savy as alot of you out there. Thanks.

  • How do I change my HP Photosmart C4580 printer wireless settings using the apple provided drivers?

I have a mac pro running the Yosemite OS.  I have a HP Photosmart C4589 all in one printer that had been working fine until I replace my router.
Now I can only use the printer as a usb.  I know I need to change the wireless settings in the printer but have not learned how to do so.
The printer software is not compatible with Yosemite so I cannot use the hp software to change from usb to wireless.
Based on all that I have read I tried to download replacement hp software and still had no way to change the printer wireless settings.
I uninstalled that software and went to Apple and downloaded drivers but there is no software that will allow me to change the printer wireless settings.
    What can I do now?

From the front of the printer (probably the Wireless or Network menu), Restore Network Defaults.
    Now on your PC:
    1. Start > Control Panel > Printers - delete the printer.
    2. Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard > [C4500 series] > Add a Device.  You will want to add a network device.  Eventually it will ask you to connect a USB cable to the printer in order to communicate the network info to the printer.

  • I have an HP photosmart c4580 printer that is not working properly.

It will only print half the page and sends an error to the print queue. When I troubleshoot it reports that the problem has been fixed of a "print job in the print queue was preventing other print jobs from being done". I can print a test page with no problem but as soon as I print anything else only half will print. I use windows 7 and Firefox .... can someone help?

  • Photosmart C4580 - printing multiple pages in error

Hi - I have the above printer, and it is printing multiple pages instead of the number requested.  I have to physically stop the printing after the required number of pages, otherwise it will continue to print more of the same pages. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled the printer, and all other aspects are working fine.  It is linked wirelessly to the computer and that is fine.  Any help you may have would be appreciated.  Regards, debnmaid

Using the printing API, you have a Graphics object to do your printing on.
So just set a clip window to your current 1/4 of the screen, draw page, translate to the next 1/4, set clip, draw page, etc.?

  • HP Photosmart C4580 Wireless - cannot get to work

I just had to get a new computer and new printer.  While I was at it, I established a wireless network.  I am running Windows Vista 64-bit on the new computer (Gateway) and have an HP Photosmart C4580 printer with wireless capabilities.  I cannot get the printer to work consistently.  Everytime I reinstall it, it works fine until either it or the computer goes to sleep or shuts down.  Then it doesn't work anymore.  Reinstall...it works...sleep, it stops working...vicious cycle.
I have spent HOURS with HP Chat trying to fix this, and even more time trying to find a solution myself.  This is my first HP product and I must say that I'm about at my wit's end with it.  I find it hard to believe that I am the only one on earth with a similar problem, yet I can find no help anywhere.  I'm sure that I'm doing something wrong, but I don't have enough experience to figure it out and cannot seem to find anyone who does.
I would appreciate any help I can get at this point.  This is my last resort before I give up and go back to Dell!!!

I have a couple of questions and some suggestions:
Is the IP address of the printer, the computer or both changing over time?
I recommend setting a DHCP reservation for the computer and the printer.  Log on to your wireless-router, look for LAN setup, address reservation.  You should see a list of clients connected to the wireless-router.  Set reservations for at least the printer and the computer.
Uninstall the SW (sorry about this) and reinstall.
With the IP address of the computer and the printer now fixed, the SW shouldn't have any trouble finding the printer when it wakes from sleep (I hope).
BTW -- unless you're using a very inexpensive surge protector, the printer should be fine connected to it.   I think the advice to plug the printer directly into the wall as a way to fix SW problems is quite interesting.

  • My HP Photosmart C4580 no longer supported by HP or Apple. How can I reinstall printer driver?

I uninstalled my HP Photosmart C4580 thinking I could reinstall from the CD that came with it only to find out that the CD doesn't cover Mavericks. HP and Apple no longer support this printer. Suggestions?

This document says the C4500 series driver is available for automatic download/install when you add the printer in Print & Scan prefs:
OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download
Have you tried adding it yet?
PS - The CD is almost always outdated by the time you buy the printer. Don't bother with the CD.

  • Photosmart C4580 won't print - push a button on printer it shuts down

The Photosmart C4580 has been reluctant lately to print anything at all. The documents sit in the spooler but won't print.
I've searched for this problem here and haven't seen same printer, same issue and solution, so here goes...
    Dell Dimension 3000
Win XP Pro Service Pack 3
I've had this printer since February 2009.  I've set it up on the USB port.
Three weeks ago I upgraded the memory from twin 256 module setup to twin 512 using Dell products. Obviously, I took the PC apart, cleaned the dust bunnies, installed the memory and everything worked great after rebooting - including the printer.
About two weeks ago a carriage jam error popped up. It wasn't jammed but I pulled the ink, reset them and restarted the printer. It worked fine - no noises, no jams, nothing.
Yesterday the printer quit printing at all. It said documents are printing but they just sat in the queue. I've done:
    1. HP Solution Center guided solution
(when it asks to hit the Cancel Button and Start Copy Color buttons to print Self Test, the printer shuts down every time)
    2. Windows troubleshooter
    3. The HP Support solution online
    4. Reinstalled printer using original CD
    5. Reinstalled using the latest install software from HP online.
*After the latest reinstall, where the program asks you to print a test photo page, it did not print. HOWEVER, after I shut down and restarted the printer, that photo printed! But I can't print anything else since.
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.
