Lion internet recovery only shows a spinning globe

I had boot camp on OS X Lion, with Windows 7 installed. I decided that I wanted to install a third OS (Linux) so I used the partioning tool in Windows. I made sure that i partitioned the windows hard drive, so it wouldnt effect my mac side. when I re started the macbook, i had no option to boot in the mac side, the icon was gone, even the recovery was gone, so i booted into windows, only to have it give me a blue screen (which dissapeared too fast for me to read) and the the computer re started, and kept doing it over and over. so i popped in my windows 7 disk, and re installed it on the windows partition of the hard drive and when it was installed i installed my boot camp drivers (I had them on a disk) and it asked me to re boot, so i did, only to have it give a blue screen again. so i installed windows yet again, and extracted the drivers from the disk, and only installed them, but i did not install boot camp. so now i am running windows on my computer, without boot camp, and no mac side. now, part 2 of my problem. when i try to use Lion Internet Recovery, it gets to the spinning globe, but does not give me a progress bar. it just shows a spinning globe for hours, and nothing else, until i get tired and just boot into the windows side and deal with windows. when i go into "Computer" in my windows side, it shows the partition of my hard drive (320 GB) which should be my mac side, but it says that there are no files on it, and the full 320 GB is just free space. what can i do to get my mac side back?

  • Mac Mini mid 2011 kernel panic with Lion Internet Recovery

My Mac Mini froze while using Safari and watching a youtube video, so I restarted the machine by holding down the power button, then on startup I reloaded Safari, and it completely froze again. This time around, I got a kernel panic on boot. I tried booting into single user mode by holding down the shift key, but that still gave me a kernel panic. So I tried using the Lion Internet Recovery mode by holding down command-option-R when booting. The OS showed the Internet Recovery progress bar, but when it completed and the machine rebooted, I got a kernel panic again.
Is there anything else I can try to recover this machine, or do I need to take it into an Apple store to have them fix it?  It's a mid-2011 model, so I don't have a DVD drive in it, so I can't use a boot disc, although I guess I could use a bootable USB, but I don't have another machine to create one with.
I figure if it kernel panics from an Internet Recovery, then that takes my hard drive and anything that was installed on it out of the equation. I've also disconnected all external devices, drives, etc, and only have a monitor and keyboard/mouse attached to it, so that rules out any other devices that might be causing problems.
    Thanks for any advice
    Adam

Make sure the monitor is plugged in firmly as well as your keyboard/mouse.
    Try resetting the PRAM.
    Reset your computer’s PRAM
It's less likely to be helpful but if resetting PRAM doesn't help try resetting the SMC.

  • HT4718 infinite loop error installing  lion internet recovery "Install Mac OS X" window. " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer - Restart"

    Hi all,
my macbook pro became extermily slow for some reason, I rebooted it many times and same problem so I decided to reinstall the Mac OS X lion from the internet.
I tried installing  lion internet recovery, it downloaded it and restarted. I got the "Install Mac OS X" window. then while installing I got the sad message " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer" and the only botton is "restart". Everytime I restart I gor the same message. Now I am trying to start from the harddisk but I does not show when you start the pc, keep clicking the "alt" botton. It only shows "Mac OS X Installer" and "Recovery HD". What Should I do?
    I appreciate your help. Thanks.

    Thanks Baltwo.
I could format it and get the back up from time machine but it is not up to date so I want to leave it at last.
I tried to back it up on external hard drive and got an error, tried CCC for back up and error again.
Just wanted to do an update on the subject. Still trying to get it back.

  • Lion Internet Recovery does not work

Lion Internet recovery appears to be broken...
On my 27" i5 QC 2010 iMac when to receover via Internet I am unable to do so  I tried it using wired networking first and then wireless, same lack of results on both.
I succesfully identify myself with my Apple ID at which point I'm told that changes have been made to license terms and I need to agree to them... no problem, I click on OK to view and agree... nothing happens. No new pop-up allowing me to click on 'agree', eventually the install disk selection un-greys itself and when I click on 'install' I have to got through the same circle of identifying myself and being asked to agree to never appearing new license terms...
Brialliant, yet another Apple failure. My time is money and I did not want to go through the process of re-installing SL, bringing it up to date and then going through AppStore Lion installation... I sure hope I do not get charged another half dozen times for a product I already purchased (like it happened when I initially installed Lion).
Anybody else encounter the same recovery problem? Solutions?

It looks like somebody else did run into the same Apple problem and found the solution...
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15829120#15829120
The solution is to go to AppStore on another computer and login with your AppleID. You must then agree to their new terms & conditions. The only way I knew how to do that was to try and install one of the free apps whereupon I was asked for the agreement.
My iMac is now happily downloading the install...

  • The Apps window in my Creative Cloud updater is only showing a spinning blue wheel

I've just updated my app installer to the latest Creative Cloud one but when I open it up, the Apps window only shows a spinning blue wheel, no apps. The other windows (Assets, Community) seem fine.@

I faced the same problem and hours of searching peoples various solutions. Tried everything under the sun over the last 10 hours to get the Creative Cloud Apps to stop spinning it's blue wheel... and FINALLY I have managed to get this to work for me, using the CC Cleaner tool. Hopefully it works for others also:
Solution 2: Run the CC Cleaner tool
Run the CC Cleaner tool to remove the current installation of the Creative Cloud Desktop application. For information on how to download and use the CC Cleaner Tool, see Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6.
Choose option 3 within the CC Cleaner Tool and then Option 1.
Mac OS: Rename the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE to OOBE.old.
Windows: Rename the following OOBE folders to OOBE.old:
    \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE
    \Users\\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
Reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

would i be able to use the lion internet recovery since my college uses WPA/WPA2 Enterprise wifi? Im confused becasue this exact one is not listed under apples page about os x recovery.

Probably not.  You'd need to go somewhere that Internet isn't on a locked-down wireless network.

  • Stuck at mac os x utilites/internet recovery only option when booting up?

Okay I have a macbook pro I bought from someone for $5, I was emptying the trash and this dude goes towards and it and throws it in the garbage can, I ask whats wrong with it, he says he does not know and it only goes to mac os x utilities, when you put internet recovery so i offered him $5 for it even though it is in the trash he accepts and says good luck and he drives off. Their is no disk drives when trying to recover only internet recoevery, when I try Clicking reinstall mac os x it says install information cannot be found, I Need a step to step guide on how to make a recovery hd, The hard drive is in, and their is a disk1 with MAC OS X Base system.

You will need to boot the computer using Internet Recovery in order to install OS X properly. You cannot use the OS X installed by someone else.
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Using Lion Internet Recovery on new Mac Pro...

I have a Mac Pro that I purchased in February 2012, and I'm selling it because the printing sub-system on a Mac is terrible.  Won't go into details here -- suffice to say I've spent these past 3 months going round-and-round with printing issues, and I'm tired of dealing with it...
Since I'm selling it, I wanted to erase everything and re-set it all back to factory specs...
I had two partitions on there, the original Mac partition, and a BootCamp partition...  Booting up using Command+R and selecting Disk Utility wouldn't let me erase those partitions and create a single new partition...  Kept giving me a Cannot Unmount Disk error...  So I used a partition manager on The Ultimate Boot CD to erase the paritions on my Mac's HDD...  Figured I would then use Internet Recovery to re-load everything on there...  Don't really care if it takes a few hours to download...
But Internet Recovery is not working!!!  I hold Command+R or Command+Option+R and they both do the same thing -- a blinking folder with a question-mark in the midddle of it.
And the only thing I can find that will let me try using an external disk to boot with is something called Lion Recovery Disk Assistant -- but I can't use that because it requires a functioning Mac with a Recovery Partition...
So how do I get this stupid thing to boot up to the Internet Recovery mode?  I need to get it ready to ship later today...
    Thanks,

  • HT4718 Internet Recovery only finds other networks instead of mine?

Hi, im trying to run internet recovery on a brand new macbook pro, and the only wifi network that's NOT in the list is my own network! when putting in the name manually it doesnt recognize it. How can this be fixed? pls help!

Most routers have options to select the type of authentication scheme to use. WEP is an older routine so it has been arguably more compatible in the past; however, most modern systems support WPA and WPA2, and this may even show better performance than using WEP. You will have to consult your router's instructions for how to change this setting, but it usually requires selecting WPA or WPA2 from a menu or settings interface, followed by an encryption level and a password. Then you just need to reconnect from your Mac and supply the new password and you should be good to go.

  • HT1237 Searching for an EFI Firmware update to enable Lion Internet Recovery on MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)

    Hi All,
My Mid-2010 Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch started having random kernel panics lately (more than 1 month of random kernel panics now), usually associated with request such as "open new tab in Safari" etc.
Since I installed 2x4GB RAM modules from Crucial when I bought my MBP (they are +- 2 years old now) and also exchanged my DVD-drive for an extra SSD that now runs the system (fully updated 10.7.4) I have a feeling that those kernel panics might be HW related.
I wanted to run Apple Hardware Test but found out that it is no longer supported on Lion. Since I don't have any optical drive to install AHT from (also I don't have the CDs with me atm), I found out that I can install an EFI Firmware update that enables internet-based (?) AHT.
At http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4904# , the link from MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) links to MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.6 which is for Early 2010 models only and doesn't allow me to run the installation process. I'm looking for an EFI update to enable Apple Hardware Test on my Mid-2010 Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch.
Is there an update that can do this? Is there a wrong hyperlink on Apple page or am I searching for a wrong update?
Also, even though this should probably be in a separate topic, can anyone please point me to the right direction for a good Apple Kernel Panic how-to-read-those topic?
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hey Cris from London,
I would try out the recommended steps in the following link:

Can i get a refined search. For example, show only the words that have been entered in the searchbar

    Hi,
You can try putting the word or phrase inside double quotes (" "). I think this would work in most search engines.

  • Lion internet recovery is taking too long to download

Alright, I'm trying to install Windows 7 with Boot Camp (I'm new to Mac, but I can pick it up fast)
Now, it said I had to repair the disk, I downloaded the repair disk, booted up from USB, and it couldn't repair, it said it had to format.
Now it formatted, and it's downloading it (Lion OS X) again as I didn't go into the recovery HD
Now, my problem is that it's taking quite a long time to install it. My guess is that it's trying to verify everything as well as download the OS and it's not really updating the "time remaining". It's slowly going down, but is there anything else that I need to know? Because once this has done, I will be going back to step one with Boot Camp to install Windows 7.

    Any tips?
Next month Lion will be available on a USB drive (with a FULL installer).  I would wait for that, or perhaps a DVD coming out later.

  • Inbox is only showing a spinning wheel

    Hi,
My mail in the macbook pro stopped receiving mail.  All I see is a spinning wheel next to the inbox.  Can anyone give me some technical advice?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • OSX internet recovery won't take apple id and password

Hi, I had a virus on my old mac, pre- mountain lion, so I backed it up on an external harddrive, placed it in recovery mode, erased mac HD with disk utility, and tried to download the only option which is Install Mac OS X Lion.  However, when asked for my apple id and password it will not take it.  It says it was not the one used with that computer.  I have always used the same apple id and I have been the only owner of that mac pro.  How do I install the OS or find the correct apple id and pw?

So your early-2011 would have come pre-installed with OS X Snow Leopard. And it appears you were trying to do an Internet Recovery by restarting using Command+Option+R. And for your model Internet Recovery only shows OS X Lion as the OS to install. If you would have had a Mac that came pre-installed with OS X Mountain Lion, then you would see that OS to install.
When OS X Lion came out, did you purchase it from the App Store with the Apple ID you mentioned?
If you have never purchased OS X Lion, you will need to reinstall OS X Snow Leopard from your original SL DVD and update it to 10.6.8 in order to redownload/install OS X Mountain Lion if you purchased ML from the App Store.

  • Which lion version is installed with internet recovery?

Would very much like to know which version of lion will be on my system when I perform the Lion internet recovery. I assume it downloads the latest build so I do not need to update Lion again. I also assume that there will be no difference in Lion version when I perform an erase and install or just an install over the existing installation.

    AMPiper wrote:
I just reinstalled Lion yesterday because my Recovery HD wasn't there. 10.7.3 was what was downloaded and installed.
I downloaded about 2 days agao and got the 10.7.2 version. so it now looks like Apple has updated to the .3 version.
I'm glad I have USB thumb drives of the .2 version cause .3 didn't do anything for me except slow down my Mac.
