Lion is freezing up and only my mouse moves...

I have to do a hard shutdown and reboot. This in itself can cause the system to hang after booting and I have to do a PRAM reset as well. Any answers?

  • I have a Mac Book Pro.  What do I do when software freezes up and I can't move the mouse?

I have Windows Outlook for Mac on my computer.  It froze up tonight, for the first time ever in over a year, and I could not move the mouse, etc.  Is there some way to escape from this situation without just turning the notebook off?
    Thank you,
    Mary

Press and hold down the Power button for 5-10 seconds until the computer shuts down. Wait one minute then restart the computer from your Snow Leopard DVD using the "C" key. See the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Restart the computer from the Apple menuitem.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • On my Cinema Display the screen is blurry and shifts with mouse movement.

I have had this screen for a year and a half and only use it once a week in my remote office. This morning I noticed blurring on the screen and the whole screen shifts up/down, left/right with mouse movement. Please help. I am getting a headache.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Rob

    Press Command-Option-8 once or twice.
You have Zoom on. It is controlled in "Seeing" in "Universal Access" system preference, and by Control-Scrollwheel.

  • Installed Lion, reboot freezes, rotating gear only for hours

Upgraded Snow Leopard on my iMac 27".  Install steps went as advertised until the installer did the final reboot.  Machine won't boot.  Get grey screen with Apple logo and spinning gear (forever).  I only have a wireless kb so holding down option or Command R doesn't work.
Dead in the water; tried power off/on multiple times, left spinning gear for hours.  No joy..
    Chaz

    Solved!
Since I couldn't press and old option on my bluetooth kb (boot seq never got far enough to recognize the kb) I borrowed a wired kb and mouse from a friend.
Held down option during boot and revealed disk volumes.  Chose recovery disk and ran disk utitilities.  Found scores of "bad" permissions and fixed them.  Verified hard disk, no woes.  Ran repair anyhow to see if it would fix the boot problem.  Didn't help.
Started over and chose reinstall OS X Lion.  All worked perfectly (took an hour or so).  This time when it rebooted it came up and finished installation.
Cancelled Genius Bar appt (didn't want to lug the 27" iMac into the stor anyhow)!

  • Having issues with I tunes on my Windows 8 laptop. I tunes is freezing up, and only plays partial song before changing to another or freezing up.

I tunes is freezing up, playing partial songs, Using Windows 8.

Well, it's still going to be only a 32 bit program, but first go to Edit>Preferences>General, click this button and restart the editor:
Then go back to the preferences>Performance and increase the amount of ram available to PSE.

  • The banner in the iTunes store advertised the godfather TRILOGY for 9.99. I purchased and only got one movie. WHAT GIVES?? Why advertise a deal on the trilogy, then not deliver?

WHY IS THE ITUNES STORE ADVERTISING THE GODFATHER TRILOGY, AND UPON PURCHASE I GOT ONE MOVIE? WHAT GIVES??

The same thing happened to me. I purchased the Trilogy but it only downloaded the first movie.
Also i looked at my accounts "purchased items list" and it didn't show that i purchased anything.
When i went back to the store to look at the trilogy order page, it didn't say that i purchased it.
It just had the "buy" button.
I will wait a few days to see if i get an email from the iTunes store to see if Apple finds out that
they made a mistake. If i don't get an email, i will have to email iTunes support to see if it can
    get this problem fixed.

  • Why is it blank when i type and only when my move over what i have typed I can see the words in a violet bloc?

I cannot see the text I type on my newly installed pages 0.8. When I move with the cursor over the text I get a bloc in violet showing the text I just typed. But I only have a blank screen as I type, regards danny

It resemble to what we get with an operating system updated thru Software Update.
    Go to :
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
Download the combo updater and apply it.
Check also that you applied the 8.0.3 update to your iWork '08 package.

  • The mouse moves on its own and the screen freezes and zooms in and out.

About 2 months ago I bought a new macbook pro and over the last couple of days it has produced all these problems!
The screen jolts and freezes and only has gradual movement and zooms in and out on a page and the mouse also freezes and moves on its own.  This usually happens when I am on the internet.
Its happened twice now where it works perfectly fine and then all of a sudden it happens.
Has anyone else had this before? Is it a virus?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!

If I move the cursor to the left corner the start menu doesn't appears.
The C845 responds throug the network to ping, and I can brow the disc remotly from another PC when the black screen appears.
The only thing I can do is to force the shutdown, and I lose my work.
After that I have to verify the disk integrity and try to recover my files.
    This had happen twice.

  • Mountain Lion finder freezes

Hey Apple, you must be aware of this issue so just fix the problem asap coz we are not used to Microsoft kinda freezing & crash issues. This is why we choose Apple. Mountain Lion just freezed unexpectedly and embarrasses too. I was showing Mountain Lion to a Windows friend who is proud on Windows, and it just got freeze. I had nothing to say. So please resolve it asap.

"Its a network issue. Whenever the wifi is connected with a secure network with limited priveledges, it tries to connect and re-connect and it goen into hanging mode."
My Finder is crashing. While working in the Finder (on Mountain Lion, MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012), searching for files using Spotlight, sometimes the Finder crashes. If I have another app open, I am able to access Force-Quit through the Apple menu, but restarting the Finder only makes it crash again, unless I turn off WiFi.

  • Radom Freeze but mouse moves, Netinfo problem?

My problem is that randomly my computer will completely freeze with the exception of mouse movements. I was having this problem before, and tried a fresh install, fresh install with no installed programs, new RAM, old RAM, and now with a newly replaced logic board. The freeze happened again today and the clock stopped at 10:52am and got it back by putting to sleep (which took awhile) and then awakening. Here are the system.log entried around the time the problem occured.

Is there anyway I can disable the netinfo lookup or is this a problem with the network/airport card. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

At long last, I have finally found out what it was.
After Apple had replaced the logic board, processor, and graphics card that Netinfo errors were still continuing. Because I had not reloaded the OS since the hardware had been replaced I figured I would give that another shot.
I got the OS installed and updated, Mac OS X 10.4.9, and ran that for just a little while. No problems at all. A few days later I started to layer on my applications, MS Office, Firefox, Internet Explorer (We still need to test web sites here with IE for Mac because some users still use IE.) After a few days, still no problems. I then started to layer on my utilities, Toast, Growl, McAfee VirusScan.
Everything still worked just fine...for a day. When I came in the next day my computer had locked up again. So I removed the utilities. Everything started working fine at that point. I put the utilities on one at a time and ran each one for several days. I finally got to VirusScan and the error's came back. I removed VirusScan and the errors went away.
The version of McAfee VirusScan I was running is 8.5. Currently I am not running any VirusScan software at the moment. Our network team here is talking to McAfee in regards to this problem. Hopefully a solution will present itself.

  • Display Jitters with Mouse movement.   Any ideas?

Cinema 23 HD Display jitters with mouse movement.
This just started happening. I don't know what's causing it, but my display jitters back and forth with mouse movement. Left and right. As I move the mouse the screen moves two pixels to the right or left when I move the mouse. After 2 pixels it stops.
    Very irritating.
I don't have any extra displays to determine if its the card or the display.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

    Hi-
Sounds like you may have accidentally turned on "Zoom".
Open System Preferences/Universal Access. Turn off "Zoom", and things should be normal again.

Try resetting the SMC and the PRAM.
    1. SMC
Read this and follow the instructions for your kind of mac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    2. PRAM
    Follow the procedure below:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    command–option–P–R
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as it should normally.
