Lion is not clean installing

Okay, so I had Snow Leopard and got OS X Lion in the app store.
I first installed it over the top of my old one, but then I used the recovery option to delete my HDD and start fresh.
It downloads Mac OS X etc and then goes on installing, yet when I get back to the OS that's freshly installed. It produces the same error that I had with Snow Leopard
My old snow leopard OS kept giving me the error that Twitter needed updating, I didn't even have it installed, even when I did install it, it still said it needed updating. It annoyed me, what's why I fresh installed
but with the fresh copy of lion, the same thing happens!
During the OS X Set up page, I made a point of not entering my Apple ID so it couldn't sign me in, but when I get to my fresh desktop, App Store says I have an update for Twitter, when Twitter can't possibly be installed and my ID isn't signed in.
I dont understand it, I seriously just want a refund as this Lion installation has just caused me more problems than I had in the first place

  • How to migrate iTunes and iPhone info to Lion on a clean install?

    Hello everybody:
I've been using Lion for a while now, and I finally want to take the leap. My idea is to migrate from SL to Lion -now I have 2 partitions, one with Lion, one with SL-, but with a clean install, so all the garbage I have in SL will be deleted, so I can get a fresh start (with my documents and other stuff, of course). My question regards my iPhone and all the things iTunes normally backups. How can I migrate those? I want to avoid that iTunes tells me that I'm on a new computer, so it has to erase everything. Is there a way to do that? Also, what about my apps? I think those that are installed through a .pkg will not work if I move the .app from one /Applications folder to another but, what about those that are Lion-compatible and are only a .app archive? They'll work, right?
I think those are my main doubts for now. Thank you in advance for your answers!
    F

You may want to use Setup Assistant - available only once at the beginning of a new install - you do not really want to use Migration Assistant. Although they are essentially the same procedure, Setup sets up your account once and transports over the settings, etc.; whereas Migration Asst comes in later after you've already established an account resulting in duplicates in accounts, folders, and messed up Permissions. I used it once.
Time Machine would be a good way - youc an get some excellent info here:

  • How do I redownload mountain lion for a clean install on the same machine without purchasing again?

I purchased mountain lion and upgraded my OS.  The system seems to still be having some issues and I'd like to do a clean install with the new OS.  How do I redownload mountain lion so that I can make a bootable disk and do my clean install?

You should be able to just go to the App Store and select Download again. If that doesn't work, try holding down the option key while selecting "Buy".
    Good luck,

  • Mac OS X Lion thumb drive clean install

I just recently bought the Mac OS X Lion thumb drive, so that I can quickly upgrade my current version (10.5.8). I understand that I have to do a clean install and I have already backed up my hard drive. When I open the thumb drive it says that I cannot install 10.7 with my current version. How do I get this to work? I have tried to search for the hard drive photo ( .dmg file) under what most have said is the "Sharedresources" folder....except my thumb drive doesnt have a folder called shared resources under "contents."

  • Lion 10.7 clean install with Outlook 2011 mail search not working

Installed fresh copy of lion on my macbook pro 6,2.  Then installed office 2011 and did all the patches.  After the macbook pro finished its indexing I started to use my outlook 2011 email and noticed that email search did not work.  (Outlook 2011 14.1.2 / Lion 10.7)
I fixed it by forcing another index:
    sudo mdutil -E /
    sudo mdutil -i on /
    Now email search works.
    Cheers

I've had this problem since Tiger. Various solutions have been posted, but none have worked for me. It really cripples Mail--I've used emails as my personal database for years, kind of a history log, which worked great in Eudora but Eudora isn't being supported anymore.
After updating to X.5.5, I can search "entire message" for "All Mailboxes" and find everything including emails in the mailbox I was viewing (often finds 60,000 occurences, but doesn't take very long--it's just incredibly tedious to find the one I want from such an enormous set of results). I can also find everything using Spotlight, outside of Mail. But if I am looking at any mailbox, like Inbox, search "entire message" never finds anything at all. Searching for subjects etc works fine.

  • I've replaced my old mountain lion HD with clean install Mavericks. I want to transfer iPhoto images. ML just has non opening folder that does not relate to Mav iPhoto. how to transfer please. thanks.

Hi, sorry that a lot of info in subject heading.
Here is copy of ML Finder iphoto
Here is the Maverick finder window. i see the same iphoto library exists as an item of the iphoto library but wonder if there needs to be a software import to ensure it goes in the right place or whether just to copy and paste.
    Thanks for your help.
    David

If you have not imported anything into the iPhoto Library on Mavericks, copy the old iPhoto Library over to the Mavericks computer and start iPhoto. It should grab the Library and convert it.
If you put it in a different place, hold down the Option key when you open iPhoto and it will ask where the Library is you wish to use.

  • Mountain Lion will not complete install

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro currently running 10.7.4. I have tried twice to complete Mountain Lion install. Both times I have gone to the app store and downloaded OS. I start install which takes about an hour. Once it's finally done, it reboots the laptop. I login as usual and it's as if nothing has happend. OS is unchanged and still at 10.7.4. I didn't get any errors or warnings during install, so not sure what is happening. Before trying for a second time, I booted the recovery partition and fixed permissions on main partion. It didn't help.
    Help! What's happing?

    Do you have FileVault enabled?

  • HT1338 Mountain Lion could not be installed because of no recovery back up.. HOW CAN I FIX

tried to install Mt. Lion and couldn't do so because I didn't have a recovery back-up. How can I rectify?

If your mac supports MTN Lion, you need to re-download MTN Lion and reinstall.
    Did you try a command R boot>restore?
You might also try this post on the MTN Lion forum, someone there might have so tips.

  • Clean install of Mountain Lion not working and everything's gone!

Created bootable USB install of Mountain Lion to do clean install so I could give my laptop to my sister - erased partition via disk utility - only USB Mac OSX Install ESD shows up for startup disks and that doesn't work when I try to install from there! HELP!
There WAS a recovery disk but I erased that too. I think it's a complete blank computer and the USB drive has nothing to open it with... no clue why it's not working otherwise!

Thing is, that bootable copy isn't really a bootcable copy unless you created that via some non-Apple guides on the web.  The one off Apple's site that tells you how to make a bootable USB stick doesn't actually put the install files on there.  It just puts the necessary files to get it booted and up to the web to do a download of it.
This is the writeup you need to follow.  http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/17/make-bootable-os-x-10-8-mountain-lion-usb-install -drive/
Of course, if your laptop came with ML already on it, you won't be able to download the installer because they'll make you pay for it no matter what.  You'll need to get your hands on that .app file so you can extract the necessary .dmg file from it.  The nice part is, it doesn't matter where that .app file comes from (Purchase ID wise), you just need one folder out of it and that's all.  If you have a friend that upgraded to ML and has the ability to redownload the app from the store, you can get it that way.
Again, as long as your laptop came with ML preinstalled, this is legal to do.  If it did not and it came with Lion, then you need to install Lion on it before you can legally give it away or sell it with the appropriate OS license on it.

  • Clean install of OS X Lion went from 7GB to 16GB, is this expected?

    Hi,
I'm trying to see if others have experienced this as well?
The whole OS only occupied 7GB (right after install) and after a reboot it reads 16GB.
Is this expected behavior to occupy 2X the storage space?
What is the extra ~9GB being used for?
    Details:
Upgraded from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion:
Did a Clean Install of OS X Lion (10.7.4) on a new external Hard Drive (1TB) - to be swapped later as my new Internal Drive.
    Get Info reads ~7GB
Then I rebooted the MBP and doing a Get Info again, now it reads 16GB!
Tried searching for explanations, but no luck...
    Is this normal?
How much space does a Clean Installed OS X Lion occupy? 7GB, 16GB?
    Thanks for any feedback.
    Mike

  • Installed Lion -- Password Not Accepted

I was helping our son out last night with getting Lion installed on his MacBook and his wife's MacBook. He was concerned that he'd have to buy it twice to install it on both computers, but I assured him that, if he used his AppleID to download it off the App Store on his wife's computer, he wouldn't have to buy it again. Sure enough, logging into the App Store with his AppleID let him download it on hus wife's computer.
The download went fine, but when we got to the splash screen asking for the name and password of his wife's computer, NOTHING WORKED. No combination of his AppleID and/or his wife's would let us install Lion. His wife's computer is now unusable, as it's waiting for a valid name/password to allow the Lion install.
Would using my son's AppleID on his wife's computer to download Lion have caused this? Any other ideas for us to get this computer working again?

So is it still the Snow Leapord Login screen, or does it have the gray fabric background patteren, with the circular avitars?  If you still have the Snow Leapord Login screen then Lion has not be installed yet and did not do this.  They will have to reset the password on the computer with an Admin account, or possiblity creat an install DVD for Lion and do a full install rather than an update.  Basicly the same thing except a lot slower, and will let you reset the accounts in the process.

  • Previously Ran Lion now will only Clean Install to Snow Leopard

  • I want to download Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks "Clean install"

I want to download Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks “Clean install”  (any version). Not an automatic/install from Apple App Store downloads, but as a .dmg .iso or whatever.
I have tried Torrents downloads but have encountered various problems, most are upgrades not 'clean install'.
Can you please recommend a good https://www. site with a full https://www. address.
Many thanks in advance. (from Thailand) [email protected]

You can perform a clean install of Mavericks as follows:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
