Lion keeps resizing my windows ?..

HI GUYS !
something has been happening to me lately that ends up being a real pain in the *** - i don't know if it's Lion, my iMac, a bad planetary alignment or what...
lets say i have a few folders on my desktop & during the course of the day i open & close said folders, drag things in & out, open some of those files, etc.....
i have adjusted the size of the folder's window to my liking ( as i do to my application's windows.. ) but as i re-open them later they ALWAYS manage to change the size even though i closed them at the size i want/like them !?..
this also happens when i open my hardrives but not when i open my apps !? even though i ALWAYS close them at the size i want them to be
can anyone shed some light why this happens & if there is a way of it NOT happening ? it gets VERY boring real fast after a while....feels like i'm ALWAYS adjusting the size of the bloody things
any help will be very appreciated, many thanks
  Nuno

Happens for me in 10.7.2, but only on a couple windows. Strange that it remebers previous locations and sizes for some but not all...
Probably a corrupt .DS_Store file. You could try deleting the .DS_Store file in the highest folder whose subfolders are forgetful, then rebooting.
A simple way to make hidden files visible is to run this AppleScript, then reboot:
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles true"
After deleting the .DS_Store file, change true to false, run it, and reboot to reverse this setting.

• OS X Lion keeps changing focus window away from browser, why?

Basically,
I just upgraded to Lion a day or two ago.  I am finding that while I am typing in Firefox, the OS takes the focus out of the browser.  So as I keep trying to type all I hear is a sound, (the sound that the keys I am pressing are invalid).  This is very annoying, and I am not sliding my hand over the trackpad or anything like that.  It seems to happen more when I am pausing for a second, and most importantly after pressing the enter key.
So my question is how to i disable this, or what the heck is going on.  I never had this problem in Snow Leopard and to me is a huge inconvience.
My system is a MacBook Pro Jan 2011 Unibody, I really don't think more then that is relevant but I would be happy to submit it if it is.
Even in typing this it has happened more then five times in less then ten minutes.  Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you,
Will Scardino

Hello fellow Mac users,
The root cause of this issue will be different for everyone as it’s usually some rogue app or process that isn’t working properly. In my case it was a Symantec utility called ‘SymUIAgent.app’.
Follow these steps to identify what specifically is causing the issue on your computer
Save the code on this file to your desktop using the filename id_issue.py: https://gist.github.com/iMerica/8928556/raw/73832a509de4dc5394cf1747b997ea1bd1b0 ff4e/identify_focus_issue.py
Open Terminal.app (Located in /Applications/Utilities)
In Terminal, cd to your Desktop using cd ~/Desktop
Run python id_issue.py and just let your computer sit for a few minutes (assuming the issue is happening within a few minutes/seconds).
Basically this code gets the current active window every three seconds and prints it as standard output which you can view in Terminal. Once you find the offending app, search on Google for specific steps on removing it.
I hope that helps!

• Firefox keeps resizing my windows

the window shift from large to small all the time at least 2 times per minute

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

• In Windows 8.1, the Thunderbird window keeps resizing

I have a new Transformer T100A laptop, running Windows 8.1 Pro. I run Thunderbird in desktop mode. The height of the Thunderbird window keeps getting small, while the width remains the same. I usually have my folder mails in the top pane, and the open message in the bottom pane. When I open Thunderbird, it often, but not always, comes up with such a short window that I can't see any of the open message at all, and only a few lines of the messages in the folder. This happens often even when I haven't closed Thunderbird, but the computer has gone into battery saving mode. This is not a huge problem, but it's annoying to have to resize the window almost every time I use Thunderbird.

lower your font size unless you have difficulty
MS Security Essentials is excellent
Then again maybe time to investigate Windows 8 RP (which uses Defender)

• How do I keep a floating window on top of a tabbed document so that it can be used as a reference while drawing/painting?

Just started using Photoshop CC on my iMac and I have noticed this issue which I did not have using windows based computers. Any floating window just seems to hide in the background as soon as I click on the tabbed document I want to work on. This is an issue for me since I like to have a couple of references open while painting plus I always have another with nothing but my color palette in it. I've already gone over the preferences but can't seem to find the way to avoid this and the options from Widow>Arrange weren't any help also resizing all windows so that they don't overlap each other ends up wasting a lot of screen real estate.

c.pfaffenbichler meruhelp this is what I'm used to in Windows windowsWORKSPACE | Flickr - Photo Sharing! and yes the active document does not need to be the top most window. This enables me to have my references as floating windows and keep them where I need them as I paint.
This is what I have to do while working on my Mac macWORKSPACE | Flickr - Photo Sharing! keeping references to either side using floating windows or options from Window>Arrange. If I drag them closer to the area I want to work on, the window will either disappear behind the active document window or it will overlap as you can see in the two images in the top left corner. Aside from the extra work from rearranging windows this way I feel that I'm loosing a good chunk of screen (see yellow striped area).

• Finder list view name column keeps resizing!

I mainly use list view in Finder, and I mainly use windows (as opposed to fullscreen) because I like dragging and dropping between them (dragging and dropping in fullscreen with tabs is rather cumbersome).
Anyway, the name column keeps resizing on me, going from what I have it set to (usually double-clicked to make it fit all filenames) to suddenly being small enough that all the other columns fit in the window without a horizontal scroll bar. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Yosemite and happens every time I open a new Finder window, expand a folder, move a file, etc. It's incredibly frustrating!
I was surprised to not find much about this problem mentioned around the web, so I imagine it must be some setting or something specific to my machine. Any help in figuring out how to make it stop doing this would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Sorry, no, preferences in the sense of what I prefer, but I believe view options (command J) are stored in DS_Store files, as well as list view column data, such as date added, date modified, name, kind, size, etc (except for some folders such as network, computer and meetingroom/airdrop?) which are stored in com.apple.finder.plist).  You probably know that you can select which columns display in view options.  Perhaps a temporary workaround would be to switch off other visible columns to display only name or name and one other preferred column to increase space available.  However, myself and another suspect this the problems I described as a bug, and I would have to think your issue is part of that bug.  It seems all related, no? For example, in my Downloads folder, I select to hide "Date Modified", show "Date Added", and arrange by "Date Added".  Maybe it will still show if I close the window and reopen the Downloads folder, maybe it will not, maybe it will change completely to Icon View despite have "always open in list view" being selected in view options.  In any case, after a restart, it will revert back to list view, with "Date Modified" showing and being arranged by "Name".
Sent feedback to apple, maybe will help if you do as well:

• Cannot move or resize any window

Hello there,
I have a brand new rMBP which I could be very happy with ... unless for whatever reason I cannot move or resize any window at all.
Cannot resize/move Finder, Safari, Preview, ... anything !!!
How the **** is that ?
I have googled a bit but found nothing.
Anybody can help ?
It's OSX Lion 10.7.4
Thanks

ok found it
preferences > universal access > mouse & trackpad > trackpad options > dragging
I had to check that box !!
I really wonder why it was not checked by default, but anyway I am happy now.

• Cannot Resize Finder Windows

Since  a couple of days I have sometimes trouble resizing Finder windows in Lion (10.7.1).
Clicking on the green plus-icon does not change anything and trying to resize by going to the edges or corners does not work either. The curser changes to an arrow but nothing happens when dragging.
The other two icons (red and yellow) still work as normal. Closing the window an re-opening the same directory "solves" the problem. The new window is fully resizable again.
Any idea what causes this issue?

I have a feeling SMB might have something to do with it. I used to have problems with permissions behaving correctly when accessing SMB servers in the past. but this is a kind of difficult problem to further diagnose.
On the other hand maybe it is just .DS_Stores making mischief... would it be any harm to delete all the .DS_Stores on the network volumes?
I used to do this periodically with a script because OS X has a habit leaving a trail of both these and apple double files behind for non HFS volumes.

• Resizing a window using the trackpad

Please can anyone tell me how to resize a window using the magic trackpad???????

In both 10.6 and Lion you can set the 3 finger drag function in System Preferences > trackpad.  Then you can drag the bottom right corner (or and edge in Lion) of the screen with 3 fingers.  Grabbing the top of the window with 3 fingers will move the window around.

• Installazione OS X Lion o OS X Mountain Lion su pc nativo windows?

installazione OS X Lion o OS X Mountain Lion su pc nativo windows?

Allright, so let's end this monolog. I found a solution. It's not complicated…
I installed Ubuntu with rEFIt recently and it looks like the EFI has been updated or something like that. The Ubuntu partition was not accessible only via rEFIt but via holding [alt] when starting the Mac and selecting the partition called "Windows" (it looks like the Mac thinks this has been installed with Bootcamp). This means that I could remove rEFIt (if I can access Ubuntu without rEFIt, it would be idiot to keep that software) who was preventing me to restore my OS X partition with the disk utility on the Recovery HD partition.
So I just removed rEFIt, restarted the Mac and booted on the Recovery HD partition to reinstall OS X Lion and now, everything looks good…
Glad to help. Have a nice day.

Any Idea what this could be?

Same here with a 3 week brand new iMac 27.  My first apple computer.   I now have great regret splurging on the mac and windowes office of mac. Know it is not the router since my laptop pcs is fine with the wireless.  From the forums can see this has been a probelm for a while now and very dissapointed this has not been fixed by apple yet.   Will get rid of my iMac if not fixed in the next week or two.

• View Area not Resizing with Window Resize

Hello-
When I resize a window that has a pdf in it (in reader or through browser), the pdf doesn't adapt to the new window size.  For instance, if the pdf opens in a small window and I maximize the window, the pdf will remain in one corner of the maximized window with scroll bars on it.  The pdf area does not change size.
Is this a setting that I may have noobishly mal-adjusted?  Or is this a bug/incompatibility?
The only exception to this problem is if the pdf is changed to full screen mode.  In full screen the pdf changes size to match the window and re-centers.
I keep the auto-update feature on and have installed all updates.  I am running Vista Ultimate on an HP tablet PC.
Thanks for any help you may be able to give me,
Andy

• Lion, Boot Camp and Windows 7 Issues

Couple of questions regarding Lion, Boot Camp and Windows 7... I never had issues with Snow Leopard and setting up Windows 7 on my iMac (expcept the dreaded black screen after restart, bu got that fixed)
Let me start off with my specs and then I will ask my questions:
iMac 27"
i7 Quad Core (1st gen)
16GB Ram
1TB HDD
OS X Lion (Fresh Install - Not Upgrade)
All updates for OS and iLife and other installed software:
Adobe Creative Suite CS5
MS Office 2011
Boot Camp 4.0
Window 7 Ultimate
Ok... here are my questions.
When I fixed my black screen issues after installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 - I had to install MacFUSE and Tuxera NTFS in order to delete the the stock ATI driver so the second rebot on the install of windows 7 would work and boot correctly. After rebotting into my mac side I now always get this message from Tuxera.
What does this mean? Now in the finder when looking at the computer drives.. It does not show the BOOTCAMP partition...
However, when I resart i can hold down the ALT key and get this menu:
I know this might seem strange to ask, but why are the Macintosh HD and the Recovery HD text smoothed and the Windows text not? Being a design I see the difference and it makes me wonder why this is. (It is almost like the BSOD icon apple used forwhen connecting with shared PCs)... Anyways, I can boot into windows when clicking this drive.
After getting to windows 7 it will not let me run updated. The OS is activated and I have even installed SP1 manually, but it always tells me that the Update service is not running. When in fact it is. I have checked it and it is set to start automatically. I have reset and shutdown my computer more than 10 times... I can't figure out what the issues are.
Overview:
Why do I get the Tuxera NTFS error?
Why can I see the boot camp partion when manually selecting it form startup, but it does not show in OS X
I can't get Windows to update? Any ideas?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

These various utilities like Tuxera are incompatible with Lion. Partly because MacFuse is incompatible. You need to remove them completely.
As for the Windows partition you might consider using Boot Camp Assistant to remove it. Then make a new partition and install Windows. Remember to use the Windows formatter to format the Windows partition NTFS.

• I have icloud on all my devices I changed my email address and my password for them, but I can't seem to change it all for icloud. It won't let me. I keep getting a window popping up on all them asking to go to settings but in settings it won't allow me

I cannot seem to change my email address and password on icloud. I have changed it in itunes. But On all my apple products it will not let me, I just keep getting a window popping up on all of them asking me to go to settings but when I go into setting I cannot get it to change. Help !!!

Go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with your new credentials.  If all you did was modify your existing ID rather than creating and entirely new ID, you can choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted.  Your data will still be in iCloud and will download to your phone when you sign back in.
