Lion kernel panic when file sharing

I had several kernel panics today while encoding mpeg, both on OSX 10.7.2 and 10.6.8 (I have both installed in the same machine, but on separate drives in bays 1 and 2).
It only seems to happen when I'm file sharing from our OSX Lion Server 10.7.2. All sharing is done at 1000Mbps over Cat6 Ethernet and has a quality switch to mange it. Ethernet ports on both the server and the encoding station are link aggregated.
The encoding software I'm using is Telestream Episode Pro 6.2.1 and I have verified the node and file paths, everything looks normal. But it crashes when this program's encoding processes are running, so I'm listing it as a culprit.
This workflow has performed perfectly before, so I'm not sure why it's so unstable now.
This is the report I got after rebooting:

I updated the Snitch to 2.4.4 and trashed the seagate software.
I ran the same processes as before, kernel panic after ten mins
Ran other encoding processes, kernel panic again
I'm starting to feel like this is realated to the way my cpu is interacting with our server...
Any thoughts?
Thanks

A customer of ours has problems with OS X Lion clients that get kernel panic when connecting via CIFS (Novell OES server).
    Any new on this issue?

They use the latest OES version with all the latest sp and patches applied. They have even tested with the an OES 11 beta with the same result. The OS run as a VM on VMware in 64 bit mode attached to a SAN. Has also been tested as a plain install without VMware. The Lion version is 10.7.2.
This is how the problem occurs:
    1. Mount the CIFS share - no problems
    2. Use the share - no problems
    3. If the network connection drops you get a message that the CIFS volume has disappeared and you are asked to unmount it. When you do that you get a kernel panic. You can force the problem to happen by turning of WiFi.
So it is OES2 but which version (SP1, SP2, or SP3)? Interesting as I'd only heard of this with NetWare 6.5.
Do you (and anyone else experiencing this issue in this thread) know if this has recently started happening, perhaps after the latest November 2011 Scheduled Maintenance patches were installed?
I'll hopefully be able to do some testing tomorrow but in the meantime I've asked Novell ...

  • Kernel Panic when waking from sleep mode., Kernel Panic when waking from sleep mode.

    Hi,
I have an Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop which I have upgraded to lion.
Recently I keep getting kernel panics when waking from sleep mode and I cannot figure out what it is.
I am not very computer savy - I.e. I use a computer but don't know programming etc.
The computer then asks me to shut down and restart.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.

Hi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.

  • Kernel Panic when using AppleTalk via AirPort Express

I thought that the issues pertaining to kernel panics when using AppleTalk to connect via AirPort to remote server were solved in the latest (10.5) version of MacOSX - but they are unfortunately not solved.
    ok, so I connect to the remote (macosx) server via the "Connect to..." menu item in Finder. i have a working internet connection up and running via AirPort {AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x87) Firmware: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.46.9)}
i log in and all is fine - until midway through copying some files - kernel panic. the panics can occur even while doing stuff locally, while the AppleTalk connection is just sitting idle in the background.
i am on MacOSX 10.5.4, iMac 2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM.
the kernel panics have been occuring since the Leopard upgrade - never before (on either this machine or my older iMac G5).
    any suggestions?
    thanks in advance,
    tobias

  • Kernel Panic when attaching time machine USB external drive

Really hope someone can help me with this.
I've got a late 2011 Macbook Pro, and was running Time Machine on a 500GB GDrive USB external drive. Was working fine when I last attached it on Feb 29. The Time Machine backup was encrypted.
When I tried to use it yesterday, as I have lost all my iTunes data on another drive, I got a Kernel Panic when I entered the password for the drive.
I managed to de-encrypt the drive using Disk Utility, but now I get a Kernel Panic everytime I plug the **** drive in.
I really need this backup data, would appreciate any help people can offer. Am running Lion 7.3, and the same error occurs on a Lion iMac that I have tried the drive on.

  • Kernel panics when in sleep mode

I bought a macbook pro about a month ago. It first came with Mountain Lion installed on it. I began having kernel panics when I put the laptop into sleep mode by closing the lid. After some time I would open the lid to find that the laptop had rebooted with a kernel panic. This continued to sporadically happen. I called apple and went to the apple store. The mbp passed their hardware tests so they did a clean Yosemite installation. I am still having the kernel panics. They all look nearly identical. I'm not sure what could be causing this. Any ideas are appreciated.

Apparently the forum software here is preventing my from posting my entire log.

After doing a clean install of Yosemite this same kernel panic continued to happen and I started getting gpuRestarts as well. Finally they replaced my logic board at the apple store and so far no more panics. My google results lead me to believe this was a failing GPU.

  • Kernel Panic on file transfers

For some reason my ipod is intermittently crashing two of my computers with kernel panics when i transfer some files to the disk and sometime when im transferring some videos in itunes...

did the problem start before or after you installed 10.4.3?

  • Kernel panic when using external hard drive for library

I have been using an external hard drive to manage my iTunes library for over a year. As of today, I have had three kernel panics when trying to use iTunes. I was downloading a purchase from the music store and the first panic occurred. Subsequent panics occurred immediately on startup of iTunes. Using the guest account (with default internal drive library settings), everything works fine. Both drives have been verified by Disk Utility and all software is up-to-date. No clue how to proceed.

Yes, but you need to have the external drive on and mounted when starting iTunes. You can add the external HD to your log in items list in System Preferences -> Accounts to handle this.
This explains how to move your files: iTunes for Mac-Moving your iTunes music folder: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449

My MacPro running SnowLeopard Kernel Panics when I unplug the speaker cable from the back.  No new hardware/software has been installed recently.  Any insight??

  • What is wrong with my user account?? Why do I get kernel panic when restart

Hi there. I got Leopard and was quite unhappy (don't think it was meant for a powerbook). So I started using Tiger again, and I flip flopped once or twice after the update came out for Leopard, thinking/hoping it would fix my problems. It didn't. I have given up on Leopard.
But, now Tiger seems to have a few problems of its own. I get the kernel panic when I restart my computer (telling me to restart), so I have to hold down the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on. Not a big deal, but if it shouldn't be doing that, I don't want it to, ya know? Never did it before Leopard.
My user account seems to be dysfunctional when it comes to downloading plug-ins for safari or firefox. I had to create a new user account and download the plug in from that account and then drag it into the HD to use it on my user account. I repaired disk permissions and booted from Tiger and did the same thing on there. After that, my user account is still not able to download that plug-in without getting errors (256)?
Is there a way to do a reinstall of Tiger from a blank slate, and be sure there won't be any problems?
    Thanks!

Leopard will work with your Powerbook, the question is, is all your software and hardware ready for it?
Is there a way to do a reinstall of Tiger from a blank slate, and be sure there won't be any problems?
You can start from a blank slate, but if you have a hardware problem that started to generate itself, a blank slate won't solve it. It is called an erase and install. The first thing to do is backup your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Once that is done at least twice, we can start looking at solutions for kernel panics*:

    KeepItSimple:
If you're getting a kernel panic when trying to install, then I'd start with RAM and the installation disks.
RAM: Panther has higher standards for RAM than does 10.2.x; if you have more than one RAM module, take one out (assuming that leaves you with at least 128 MB) and try again. If it panics again, try switching the RAM. As far a brand names go, I prefere Kingston or Azen RAM.
Installation Disks: if they're grey, they won't work. Grey installation disks are packaged with specific Macs, and only contain hardware drivers for that specific Mac. You need the retail version of the disks, which were sold in a black box. There are four CDs in the set, three of which are for installing the OS (the fourth contains Developer Tools). The three OS disks are black with a large silver X in the middle.
    Good luck!

  • Kernel Panic when I try to install OSX 10.3. Can anyone help?

I bought this iMac recently. It has OS 10.2.? installed and OS 9.1. When I try to install OS 10.3 I get a Kernel Panic when it reboots to start the installation. I ran the Norton Disk Doctor it had over in OS9 -- said it fixed some things and now ok but I still get a Kernel Panic trying to install Panther. I just want to re-format the whole computer with 10.3 and get rid of 9. How can I do that?
    Thanks.

  • Kernel Panic when I use hot corner to put display to sleep (twice)

As the title above says, for the second night in a row, my new iMac (2012) has had a kernel panic when I perform that action. I also turn off my magic mouse to save the batteries but I'm constantly doing both of these actions throughout the day when I know I'm not going to being using my iMac for some time. Both occurences happened on consecutive nights. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    SX-Virtual Link
    Soundflower
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can identify which one is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes.

  • MBP Kernel Panic when connecting to HDTV (DVI)

I have a 15" MacBook Pro that has been working perfectly since I got it. I tried today to connect it to my Hitachi 51" HDTV (via DVI) and got an instant Kernel Panic. I used my 15" Powerbook with this HDTV without any issues.
I've searched and found folks with kernel panics when waking their MBP if the RAM is faulty, but nothing at all about issues when connecting an external display. I am running with all the latest updates, firmware update, etc.
I don't have any problems connecting to a 23" Cinema display or to a 19" Samsung LCD, but I tried several times to connect to the HDTV and got a kernel panic each time. I changed resolutions on one try and still got the same issue (720x480 so the TV would see it as 480p). I even tried booting up with the display already connected and it kernel panic'd when it tried to switch into the full OS X GUI.
The specific error is in the panic.log is:
