Lion Killed Streaming

I never had a problem with streaming video from the Internet or network shares on my Mac mini until I upgraded it to Lion.  Now streaming is choppy and buffers frequently.  Does anyone know how to tweak it to eliminate this problem?

I have not seen on any machines upgraded here, but Lion Cache Cleaner has an Internet optimizer feature and it would be worth a shot trying that. There is a free trial here:

If you do try, and it does work, let us all know!

  • Lion killed(?) Bootcamp for MBP 15" i7

I think Lion ate it or something.  Before I upgraded the OS, I ran disk utilitity and cleaned the cache, etc. like a good little user.  I had Bootcamp partitioned with Parallel 5 installed.
I saw that Parallel5 isn't compatible so uninstalled it.  But the thing is when I open Disk Utility, it keeps showing that the disk is not repairable.  I downloaded iPartition Demo and it showed that there was some error with the BootCamp disk (that it wasn't shut down properly or something)
The Boot Camp assistant looks different on Lion.  It doesn't allow me to boot up from a separate disk from the outset like before.  It doesn't appear on System Preferences.
On Utilities, it asks me to
    1) download Windows Support Software for this Mac
    2) Already have windows support software cd/dvd/external disk.
When I already have partition the HD, is it supposed to happen?
I tried installing demo version of Parallel 6 and it finds Windows 7 just fine.  So what's going on?  It still shows that on Disk Utility that my BootCamp disk is not repairable.  I'd like to repartition it because it is taking up too much space.

Here is something that worked for another user in the same boat:
"I put in my Windows 7 intallation disk, booted past the first screen into the recovery tools, and tried the automatic recovery option, and wonders of wonders, it worked.  It's now showing up just fine and I can boot into it, so it looks like all Lion did was kill off access to it in the partition table without messing up the data, in a way that Windows could correct."

  • Sonnet USB 3.0 PCIe Fail with Mountain Lion, Kills Bluetooth

Just sent the following to Sonnet support. They have a system support installer that is supposed to make the card work with Mountain Lion, which it does, but it also kills Bluetooth on my Mac Pro:
Hi there. Have been banging my head against a wall on Mountain Lion upgrade to a 3,1 Mac Pro and have figured out that your Sonnet USB 3.0 System Support Installer 1.0.1 causes Bluetooth to become unavailable, which for me is a deal breaker.
Here is how I get to the conclusion that your software is the issue:
    1. Clean install of Mountain Lion
    2. Install USB 3.0 Driver (Mac) 1.06B, reboot (Bluetooth fine)
    3. Install Sonnet USB 3.0 System Support Installer 1.0.1, reboot, Bluetooth not available (jagged line through Bluetooth icon in menu bar, no Bluetooth item in System Preferences panel)
When I remove this last item and restart Bluetooth comes back.
I hope there is an urgency around a fix for this. Please let me know if you need any more information.

Very quick response from Sonnet, known issue, they are working on it, no commitment on timing of fix.

  • Lion killed my 2007 MacBook Pro

Installed Lion successfully on my 2007 MacBook Pro. First run went OK. Tried restarting and won't boot. No Chime... nothing.
SMC reset and PRAM reset don't do anything. Sleep light comes on for split second, optical disk engages momentarily, then all goes dead. Screen stays black. Attempted start without RAM seems to indicate logic board is working. Getting repeating tones. Flashing light when I press and hold power is the most I can get with the memory installed.
Consider myself a pro user. Can anyone help, or should I just throw it away?

Do you have your Snow Leopard discs handy? Try to start up from there and check the state of your Hard Drive with DiskUtility. Sounds like Lion may well have hurried p a predisposed issue with your Mac.

  • Lion killed quite a lot of contacts in my Adressbook!

After Upgrade to Lion my Adressbook has lost quite a lot of contacts - sync with iPhone did not get them back, but deleted them as well on the mac.
No MobileMe or other Sync's are used.
I still have the files from SnowLeopard on a external drive.
    " /Users/xyz/Library/Application Support/AddressBook "
    How to restore these files?

Solved: Boot from ext.HD with old Snow Leopard - open Adressbook - export abbu. Boot new Lion, delete all remaining contacts, import the abbu file. (Sync iPhone with Option Replace Contacts)

  • Lion kills SoundTrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color

After installing Lion on my cloned boot drive FCP 7.0.3 runs but SoundTrack pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color return an error message indicating Lion can't run PowerPC programs. They also have a white slashed circle over them indicating they aren't compatible.
This wasn't a widely advertised restriction of Lion prior to its release.
I'm thankful I have a fully operating Snow Leopard installation.

I don't know why you would have the PowerPC-only versions installed on an intel machine?  It's very weird, because they should be Universal. This may mean that you were running those apps using Rosetta under Snow Leopard, but Rosetta isn't installed with Lion. You should just re-install from the FCS3 DVD and the proper Intel versions will be placed in your Applications folder.
I just launched every FCS3 app under Lion and they all work fine, except for Cinema Tools (which unexpectedly quit.)

  • Mountain Lion killed my Office 2008 suite!

Mountain Lion disabled my Office 2008 applications. I've tried installing the Office 2011 suite (don't have a key number for the 2008 version, so downloaded a 30-day trial version of 2011, it's also having stumbling/locking up). Should I simply uninstall Mountain Lion?
I really, really want to go back to yesterday, and not messing around with this. I'm also unable to migrate my old Entourage e-mail to Mail, so am completely cut off from my mail archive. Ugh.
Another question: is it possible to use Time Machine to simply set my entire system back one day? Would that have the same effect as an uninstall?
    Thanks!
    Tom

Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't think I have an alternative to uninstalling, since I didn't export my Entourage info before installing Mountain Lion. Otherwise, I'd consider saying goodbye to Microsoft at this point.
When I look at the Time Machine contents for the date that I want to revert to, it shows simply the changed files for that backup -- which makes me nervous, but I'm assuming that the reinstall will take all files in Time Machine from that date, backward..? Time Machine is my only desktop backup.
    Thanks!

  • MAC OS X V10.7 Lion Killed My Media Centre....

Upgraded my Mac Mini I use as a media centre to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and no Front Row??? What the ?????! What's the point of having a Mac Mini to use as a media centre with no more Front Row??? I don't know what Apple were thinking, or weren't thinking.... I don't even know why I bothered upgrading to Lion.
I purchase movies through iTunes to watch using Front Row... no front row, no more movie purchases. I may as well just go to sanity and buy it on DVD, and use my DVD player. I was really looking forward to the Lion upgrade too............ back to Snow Leopard...

I use Diamond BVU195 USB-to-DisplayLink adaptors. Just updated mid-2009 13" mbp (a model that appears on the list in Peter Duke's post) to MLion 10.8.2 from SL.  Big mistake. Never a problem with SL, but Mountain Lion has been quite underwhelming.
Regarding the BVU195, there is flickering/pulsating when I open Safari Top Sites or open some sites such as Hotpads.com.  In Hotpads, everything seems fine until I move the mouse over a "house", an action that causes the map portion of the window to go nuts.
I have WASTED SEVERAL HOURS trying to get this fixed, trying 3 different DL drivers (1.8 seems to work the best), all the while having flashbacks of past Microsoft Windows' woes.  I have had my laptop lock up (requiring on/off button shutdown) more often in the past 3 days than the previous 3 years. And to think that this problem has been ongoing for over a year - unconscionable! on the part of Apple.  Why Apple and not DL?  I can open the same sites with no problem when using Firefox (my new default browser.)
Speaking of flashbacks, I can remember a time 20 or so years ago when I bought my first Compaq computer and was in heaven. I had a similar estatic feeling when I moved over to Apple 3 years ago.  The burden of endless angst had been lifted, or so I thought.  Sure, when I bought the Compaq, I spent twice as much for the "same" specs (sound familiar?) and had limited aftermarket upgrade options due to its proprietary build (sound familiar?) but it worked almost flawlessly (familiar?) and offered phenominal support, second to none (familiar?).  I never regretted paying out the extra money - the experience was well worth it.  But now Compaq, once a leader in quality and innovation, is now all but a forgotten joke.  I truly hope Apple isn't headed down the same path of putting out garbage and then ignoring the problems that follow.  A year and still not addressed - unconscionable!

  • Mountain Lion killing my system!!

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion a few months ago shortly after it came out, my system is still running really poorly... I've hoped to give it time to settle down, for updates, and so on, but everything works very slow, transistions poorly, and it seems to hate my Adobe CS 5.5.
It's especially bad when I swtich from one application to another, such as InDesign to Illustrator, or from CS to Safari, or just try to close a program ofter using it for a while. Safari freezes constantly, which is something I had never experienced before with OS 10.7. Processes run slow on a regular basis in all the CS programs, and Pages or Numbers, and I get the rainbow wheel all the time in just about every program, and sometimes I get the little blue wheel with 4 quadrants. Closing Adobe CS programs has become something I've had to do when I'm not using them, in the hopes to free up RAM or processes or whatever for others, but they usually crash or just don't close when I do that. I never had to do that before 10.8.
I don't want to exaggerate which might impede anyone steering me in the right direction, but it really is as bad as I am trying to succinctly illustrate. Beyond this, my fan seems to ALWAYS be running - honestly about 75% of the time, and it always feels like it is running hot. I have to say, this is the worst experience with a new OS since OS 10 first came out around 11 or so years ago, or whatever it was. 10.7 always worked very well for me, especially with CS and other programs - I've never been at such a loss as to how to fix an OS issue.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
    Dustin
I have 4GB of RAM, and the early 2011 MacBook Pro (bought in July of 2011) with a 2.2 Intel i7. 21" LG LED monitor as the main display, running the laptop as the second window.

Thanks for sending that, but I've looked the activity monitor a lot recently. What are you suggesting that I do with this?
I've shut down my Adobe CS, and one or two other things I'm not using. But what about when I am using them? Why is 10.8 sucking up so much RAM, when 10.7 ran really well?

  • Force downloads/kill streaming in Podcasts app?

I need to know that my podcasts are downloaded and available when I am not connected to the internet.
With iOS7 and the new podcasts app, is there any way to FORCE them to download and not ever try to stream?  I listen to sometimes dozens of podcasts a day as a continuous play list, and tapping each one to download is really not a reasonable approach--like when you're in the car driving several hundred miles at a time, it's not safe to be clicking next, next, next to get to a podcast in the list that might have actually been downloaded to the device.
It was easy with iOS 6--download podcasts to computer when conveniently situated for wifi, sync to iOS device at leisure, listen offline....

Also would appreciate suggestions for a 3rd party podcast app that can be set to only download can sync what's been played to podcasts on the computer--I need the capacity to listen from either device.

  • Mountain Lion kills bluetooth, trackpad gestures

I have latest gen iMac.   After Mountain Lion upgrade.   No bluetooth is available though my keyboard and trackpad connect.   Keyboard acts generics with no top row keys working and trackpad has lost gestures.  Machine does see a trackpad in system prefs.
    Is this release garbage???

Okay, I just found another thread that solved it for me.
Go to this thread and on the second page near the bottom you'll find a thread by joe81tx. Even though my "Disable automatic login" box was already unchecked and I couldn't find anything about name and password, and I figured that it wasn't going to work ... it did.
I hope it works for you.

  • Mountain lion kills my battery

I have a mid-2009 MacBook pro.  When running Lion, my battery life was around six hours.  After installing mountain lion, my battery life is about an hour and fifteen minutes.

I am also having battery problems since installing ML.  This is a MBP 13" early 2011 purchased August 2011, and before ML battery gave 7 7.5 hours. I recently monitored consumption running Safari, iTunes, Thunderbird.
    time          %age Battery          Hours left
    18.30               92                         6.53
    18.45               88                         6.39
    19.00               84                         5.04
    19.30               76                         5.11
    19.45               72                         5.02
    20.00               71                         3.52
    21.45               44                         3.06
So in 2 1/4 hours used over 50% of battery.   No good when I want to work away from base.
Are Apple really aware if this and are they working on an upgrade.  I don't want to revert to Lion as there are so many good new features in ML,  also am getting the 'beach ball' several times when opening sites in Safari.

  • Lion killed time machine

Time machine was working perfectly during through Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Now Lion does not want to recognise the time machine drive.
I have managed to make one succesful back up and then the drive disconnects itself (disappears from the desktop even though the drive is still running) and TM wont make a second backup. When the drive is connected and spinning, it is not easily recognised by Lion.
The drive is a 1.5TB drive used in conjunction witha 1TB drive and both are using FW800 and connected to my iMac FW800 port with one drive passing through the connector of the other. This setup has served me well for the last couple of years and it is likely to be more than coincidence that it should fail me now.
Does anyone know what has changed and how to fix this issue?

  • LION killing my 5hours battery life of MBA

anyone out there notice the battery life is decreased since upgraded to LION?
i used to have 5hours or sometime 4hours if running flash in chrome before i upgrade to lion.
but now, i have only facebook and apple discussion on my chrome tab.
other programs which running now are msn messenger and activity monitor which i used to run it always.
my system memory reading is 260mb free   500mb wired  990mb:active and 293.2mb: inactive. total of 1.74GB:used. my computer ram is 2Gb.
if no solution or update in near future. i might revert back to snowleopard. wasted 29USD on a OS which im not satisfied.

    Hi,
I have a similar problem with my MBA 13" late 2010. I am curious who else has battery issues.
What I have done so far is:
    recalibrate the battery (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490)
resetted the SMC as suggested by John (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964)
What I was able to observe afterwards was the following:
When the MBA is idle the battery indicator says 12h running time which is the same as for Snow Leopard.
As soon as I use Safari, the time goes down. Right now, as I am typing this text, I have a running time of 6:15h with the battery at 96%.
Different programs consume different amounts of energy and it is possible that the new safari is better optimized for the new MBA. But this is just speculation until others have similar observations.
I look forward to other's experiences.
