Lion Mail and iCloud Password

Alright, I've seen tons of threads all over forums for this, and no real solutions. And I'm wondering why:
Lion Apple Mail keeps asking me for my iCloud password almost every time I fire it up, or randomly when I've got it already open.
Why is that? I've tried deleting the password from the preferences/accounts and re-typing it several times. That didn't work. I've tried reparing the keychain with the keychain app, but that didn't work.
I don't get it. What exactly do I do? Nothing has worked. Do I delete the entire account in Mail and set it up again from scratch? Sometimes it'll ask me repeatedly for it and nothing works, so I have to cancel and quit, and then wait a bit and start Mail again and hope that it'll take it this time around. Sometimes it'll take it the first time I type it in. Sometimes it won't even ask for it at all.
What's the deal? What do I do? I've looked on this forum and other forums dealing with Macs and, like many others, none of the solutions presented have actually worked. So any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If it works now, it will work from now on.
If you check the preferences for that account, you will notice in the advanced tab that it uses Apple Token for log in. No password used. You can also make the other settings for Mailbox Behaviors.
Also note that when you sign out of iCloud or disable the account in the iCloud sys prefs that it will remove iCloud from Mail until it's re enabled or you sign back in.
Good Luck

My iOS devices don't have this problem. Any one have an explanation or what I'm misconfiguring?  I had the same problem with Lion as I am with Mountain Lion
    It is configured for IMAP

If you don't know your ID, you can try to find it as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5625.  Then you can reset the password as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2617.  Of course, you can only do this if it's your ID.

    Hi skippy2012trev,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • Migration guidelines to goto Lion, iOS5 and iCloud

    hello
    I'm using a MacBook Pro ( running OSX 10.6.8 ) an iPhone4 ( iOS 4.3.5 ) and an iPad2 ( iOS 4.3.5 )
all three sync email ( mutilple pop accounts ), calendar and contacts using MobileMe - all works fine
now I would like to goto Lion, iOS5 and iCloud
    are there any migration guidelines
    - should I update the OS's and will iCould take over the email settings from MobileMe ?
    - should I start with migrating MobileMe to iCloud ?
is there any up-to-date documentation ?
    thx in advance
    Henny

You can purchase and download Lion from the App Store. You can upgrade your iDevices by first downloading and installing the iTunes 10.5 upgrade. As for transitioning from MobileMe to iCloud see:
Frequently asked questions about the MobileMe transition and iCloud
Creating an iCloud account- Frequently Asked Questions
    MobileMe- About moving to iCloud.webloc
    To upgrade to Lion:
How to Install Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Installed
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade to Lion:
Purchase the Lion Installer from the Mac App Store. The download will start quickly. Lion is nearly 4 GBs so a fast internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4 hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the time.
Boot From The Lion Installer which is located in your Applications folder.
    Follow instructions for installation.

If you see the white WiFi bars in the upper left corner, that simply means that the iPad has detected a WiFi network, and that does not mean that you are connected to the Internet.
Can you open web sites with Safari?

Without the Apple ID and password the phone was originally activated with, you will not be able to activate the phone. No one here can help you, and neither can Apple. So, unless you or your friend can remember that ID, you will never be able to activate the phone.

  • Mail and icloud are f***ed are they not?

Mail and Icloud suck badly right?
I am sending new clients multiple copies of emails and referencing emails that never even got sent and I'm sure they must think I'm mad or incompetant....
It will cost me clients and money for sure..... anyone else having problems with this new ULTRA BUGGY software?

What you're experiencing is not normal, despite what Tom in London implies. Certainly, there have been people who have had problems with iCloud, but the same could be said of GMail, Dropbox, etc. Technology is not perfect.
As to what might be causing the problems, perhaps there is something about what you are sending that is getting caught in spam filters. Or perhaps you are sending attachments that are too big (iCloud will not allow attachments larger than 20 MB, but many other e-mail servers have even lower limits). Perhaps you are having sporadic network failures that are causing messages to never get sent. Perhaps you are having some kind of malfunction with your computer in general.
Then again, perhaps there's a problem with your iCloud account, in which case we can't really help you here. Try getting help from Apple's ExpressLane site:

Select More Products & Services, then iCloud.

  • Mail and iCloud keep forgetting my password

I have three mail accounts. One of them is my iCloud ID account. A couple times a week my computer will forget the password to one or more of my accounts. At the beginning of the day yesterday, it knew all 3 accounts. By last night it had lost my iCloud account. This morning it lost the other two. This has been going on since I upgraded to Lion in December.

Have a look here. I'm not sure if it applies to iCloud, but certainly works for Mail.

  • Mail and iCloud on Intel core 2 duo

Now, I can't get my Mac mail , I guess because I have not upgraded to Lion. Is that right?
I always had a .mac acct and now I guess everything is moved to the iCloud. Will I lose anything if I don't do anything.?
    Thanks.

Hi, no sweat, you can still get iCloud eMail.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 993
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 587
        •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • How do I set up multiple e-mail and iCloud accounts on an iPad?

    Hello everyone,
I have just purchased an iPhone and an iPad, and have upgraded to Mavericks - and that was only a week ago, so the workings of the cloud are not overly familiar with me yet.
I have just discovered to my dismay that unlike my iMac and Macbook, the iPad does not support accounts - or multiple users - in the Mac sense, although looking at the manual and the forums I believe it might be possible to do things another way, but all the postees have more experience of the devices and the cloud than I do.
What am I trying to get the iPad to do?
My use is fairly mixed, but mostly web browsing and music and some Apple TV. I do not have my regular e-mail address joined to the cloud, and don’t want to, as nearly all my e-mails are work based, and I don’t want those on a private device. My new iCloud e-mail address will do for friends at some point.
My wife surfs the web, uses e-mail, and Facebook. She would like all her content private, so I would expect some sort of password usage, or signing in and out of iCloud, or at least certain aspects of it like Mail. I’m not bothered about mine being kept private, and I expect my usage to be light. She does not have an Apple id or iTunes account.
I know you can put more than one e-mail address on there, and the menu on the iPad suggests I can add more than iCloud account?
Unfortunately, this is all a bit of a jigsaw puzzle and I feel I’m missing a few pieces.
Can some kind soul tell me if what I want to achieve is possible, and if it is, I would really appreciate an idiot’s guide on how to achieve this.
    Many thanks in advance.

Now I feel kind of stupid, or maybe I need new glasses. I did not see the get an new account link, just kept going back into my primary account. Thank you for your time and help.

  • Apple ID and iCloud Passwords are Not the Same

iCloud uses a different password to login than my Apple ID which I use for iTunes and everything else I do with Apple. Can I change my iCloud password to match my Apple/iTunes ID or will that cause problems like those I've seen noted on forums? OR, is it a good idea to keep the passwords different since my Apple & iTunes ID is connected to my credit card?
Note in Case this Applies: I am running iTunes 11.1 on my MacPro in OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and will upgrade to Mountain Lion in October and then Mavericks when it arrives (if stable). I am about to install iOS 7 on my iPhone 4s (64G) and iPad 4 (32G).

Can I jump onto this discussion with a similar problem.
    I updated the OS on iPhone 5 and Ipad to get the latest security updates. Since then I cannot access my icloud account. I have tried changing the password and get to the point were I am sent a verification email and advised to;
"Check your email and look for a verification email from Apple. Click on the Verify Now link and sign in with your new Apple ID and password". Unfortunately there is no "verify now link"
Consequently I can no longer access my account. Any ideas?!

  • AppleID and iCloud passwords are separate?

I wanted to change the password I use for my iCloud email in the Mac OS X Mail app. I was directed to appleid.apple.com and changed it there. Logged out and in to test it... Success. However, the new password does not work in Mac OS X Mail. It will only accept my old password. Also the new password does not work to log into www.icloud.com. Only the old password works. Why are these separate? How can I change my iCloud password, if not through AppleID?

Your iCloud login is an Apple ID: do you perhaps have two? Are you sure the login for iCloud is the same as the login for appleid.com you used when you changed the password? And you have to sign out from iCloud on all your devices and sign back in again in order to be able to use the password - if you didn't do that, that will probably be the problem.

  • Issues between mac mail and iCloud

    iMac mid-2011 2.7 i5 10.8.2
Approximately one week ago the application Mail began displaying the "Welcome to Mail" window prompting me for Full Name, Email Address and Password. Prior to this, my me.com and icloud.com emails were working with the application well.
At the same time, my finder began prompting for administrative password to alter (delete) any documents contained within the finder window.
Fearing that my ymail.com email was somehow attempting to connect to my mail application on the mac, I have since activated a gmail account and changed all programs, websites, profiles and information to the new gmail address, thereby removing my ymail.com address (it does not sync with the mail application unless one pays $20/year for premium services, which I do not.)
I have changed my email information through apple's "manage your ID" webpage.
I have signed out of the app store, itunes, and the mac's icloud and signed in again. The mail application still displays this window.
I have attempted to add my icloud account to iphoto and mail's preferences.  The information activates and my emails begin to download.  After a few minutes, all of the emails vanish with all signs of my gmail, and icloud email accounts.
I have also used the "get info" function to delete and add my permissions to include read and write.  I have applied the changes.  We have two user accounts on the same imac, both with administrative permissions.
I did not change any settings, download any applications, or updates, except for the ios 6 update for my phone on Monday 2-4.  I had plugged the phone in to complete a sync several days ago.
I am currently at a loss.  All applications and devices were working well prior to last week. If more information or clarification is necassary, I will do my best. This has been an extremely exhausting week researching what is going on to no avail. I do not understand why my computer is suddenly falling apart.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Changing Mail and MobileMe Passwords

    Hi all,
I tried to change my Mail password by going to Preferences and then Account Information, but now I understand that doesn't actually change the password - it just changes the password that Mail is using to try to log in to your mail server.  How do I change the password on the server?
My account type is iCloud IMAP and my incoming mail server and outgoing mail server (SMTP) are p03-imap.mail.me.com and iCloud (iCloud) respectively.
    Thank you

Thanks, I have changed my Apple ID password (i.e. my iCloud password). Does this mean even if someone gets into my account on my old job's Mac, they cannot just launch my Mail app by clicking on it and see all my emails, etc...  Right?
