Lion mail doesn't allow shortcuts for bold and italics.

Hi,
I've come across this problem in which Lion mail doesn't allow shortcuts for bold and italics. I try pressing the short cut for Command + B or Command + I
but it does not affect the text at all. I have to move my cursor to the Bold or Italic icon to change a particular word's form.
Of note, Command + U allows me to underline a word just fine. I also write my mail in the default Helvetica, and in size 12.
Anyone know of a solution? I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch, but it's become a great annoyance for me.
Thanks for your help!

  • Mail doesn't attach files through dragging and dropping the files!

    Help please,
Mail doesn't attach files through dragging and dropping the files on OS X ML, it crashes for a while !!

Open Disk Utility and Repair disk permissions on the First Aid tab.
Then, Restart and boot into Recovery Mode by holding down cmd-r on restart until you see a gray screen. When the Mac boots, you will be presented with some options. Choose Disk Utility and select your Hard drive volume (Macintosh HD is the default name). Then, on the First Aid tab, click Repair Disk (not permissions).
If that doesn't help, you could try installing the 10.8.2 combo updater from the Apple Downloads site:

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts for Liquify and Vanishing Point filter interfaces in Photoshop CS4?

Is there a way to set custom keyboard shortcuts for Liquify and Vanishing Point filter interfaces in Photoshop CS4? When I change my keyboard shortcuts preferences for Photoshop, they don't change for these filter interfaces. Is there another way?

    what is the problem ??
I tried to change the shortcut for the Vanishing Point and Liquify from
Edit -> keyboard shortcuts(button) -> keyboard shortcuts (tab) -> filter (tab)
and you will find these filters :
double click on it and make a new shortcut
but it MUST be Ctrl + (any letter) or you can make it Ctrl + Alt + (any letter)
but if you made it just one lettre like S for example
you will can't make a shortcut.
hope I understood what you ment ???

  • DW 2014.1 keyboard shortcuts for "Code and Design" gone

Option has disappeared for setting keyboard shortcuts specifically for "Code and Design" (or plain Design either, for that matter)?  Split Code option just gives you two code windows and all the other options in Shortcuts are for Live View, not Design view.

Alt-F11 does not help me in this situation because you still cannot toggle between showing Code and Design versus all Code, or all Design. Live options have replaced Design options, but even then, you cannot make a shortcut for Code and Live (though it's available in the View menu). This screen shot shows what has disappeared.
Again: Ctl + ` does not toggle the VIEW, it toggles the active PANE.

oh ok this works fine in a webbrowser. But is there any way I can display it in SQL PLUS?SQL*Plus is a console based/command line based tool. It has no concept font styles etc. just a plain character set. So you cannot produce font effects in the SQL*Plus output. For that you need a proper GUI interface that does handle such effects.

  • Lion Mail doesn't open a window

I keep finding unwelcome changes in Lion, especially Mail. Now I notice that Mail doesn't open a window if I bring Mail to the front and no window is already open, and if a window is minimized it won't open it either as it used to do in Leopard. I have to go to the added trouble of going to File > New Viewer Window to get the regular window or click on the window in the dock. I don't understand why this was changed, it just makes more trouble.
I know people complain about changes, but I just need to know if there's a way, maybe with the help of Terminal, to bring it back to where it was?
    (I am in classic layout)

    No problems,
Its caught me out before too.

  • Lion mail doesn't work at all - it's frozen

Is anyone else having issues with Lion mail? My curser is in a constant state of swirling... I can not send nor receive mail in Lion. This upgrad has been the most dissapointment ever. Mail is one of the many bugs I'm experiencing and since I work (my living is made with my computer) I have lost hours of valuable time delaing with these bugs and systems that refuse to work. Does anyone know of any fixes to bugs yet? I can't seem to find any.
    Thanks!

Are you sure your Lion Mail setting are correct after the upgrade for your domain?
Under the account settings is the account still a pop account or has lion reset it as a imap account?  Is Imap enabled on your mail server?
if not, what domain are you downloading your mail from?  Gmail, yahoo, etc...

  • Applications seem to be running slower on Lion & Mail doesn't work well

My applications like iPhoto, Safari, and Mail all seem  to be running slower and slower.  They were lightning-like right after I installed Lion, but now it seems to be running more slowly every day terrible.  Reloading a page or opening a new tab in Safari is Very S L O W....and iPhoto seems to go into a loop or something, and takes forever to come out of it.
We also installed a Time Capsule, so maybe that's the problem, but does anyone else have suggestions on things we should do to improve performance?
The other - bigger - problem is sending mail.  I keep getting the message that "cannot send mail on the selected server,"  and that it has timed out.  It's the server I have been using, so I am baffled.  The name of the server is smtp.me.com:myusername
Should I change it???  but to what????
Can you tell I'm a total novice at trouble-shooting?  Well...I am!  so I sure hope someone can help.

That's assuming PS was build to not do it. Scratch disks and display tiles are a fundamental principle of the program and I don't consider them a workaround for anything. You know, over in the video apps forums we poor souls have been begging for years that After Effects would be half as smart as PS in that regard. I also tend to think that your alleged "do it all in RAM" would fall apart as soon as you begin to deal with a number of images and document sizes that exhaust that RAM. One might say that in foreseeable time RAM will be so dirt cheap, that 32GB machines will be commonplace even for home users, but it's not there yet. And then it's the question: Do I burn 1000 Watts of electricity even in idle state just to work on a monster machine with lots of RAM or do I use just 300 Watts on a normal system with a scratch disk and energy saving options. It's the same gag as with multicore processors or those monstrous graphics cards (Quadro CX, anyone?): the marketing may tell you, you need those things, but it must not necessarily do anything for your personal workflow. Those arguments really have no value if this Quadro CX has nothing to do most of the time or of 16 cores only 1 barely even peaks while you paint and likewise you wouldn't need those tons of RAM, if all you ever do is adjusting a few photos from digital cameras. You have to differentiate between "average" users and extreme "power users", but nowhere is it written that 1% of power users must or can dictate what's good for the 99% other users, a dilemma software devs face every day... I would tend to think that 64bit and its possible advantages are in fact very low on the list for those 99% of users, but other things are much more important to them.

  • Mail doesn't save password for iCloud IMAP account (works fine with other email providers)

Mavericks Mail doesn't save the password for my iCloud IMAP account no matter how many times I enter it into Preferences or enter it when prompted.  Doesn't seem to be saving in Keychain or wherever it should be saved.  Passwords for all other email providers that I use are saved.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?  Thanks!!!!!

  • WebMail (Squirrel Mail) Doesn't allow login

I am taking a step-wise approach to securing mail. I just changed IMAP and SMTP to CRAM-MD5 and POP to APOP.
After doing this, I was not able to login to WebMail any more. The user get's an invalid user name and/or password.
I am not running OD (standalone server) and I did verify that the user I was trying to log in with was configured correctly through WM via the Security button.
Any help is appreciated so that I can move on to securing mail with SSL.

Squirrelmail is an imap client. You need to tell it what authentication method to use for imap and also for smtp (if required).
    issue from Terminal:
    sudo /etc/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
for IMAP auth settings, in the conf.pl menu, enter:
    2
    a
    6
Changes you make are effective immediately. No need to restart mail service.

  • Mousekeys doesn't allow you to Drag and Drop

I have problems with RSI so I use mousekeys with Linux Gnome Desktop and with Windows. It also works well on my mac but not all features are available.
Normally the '+' sign corresponds to a double-click and the '0' to holding the mouse key down while you move the mouse (i.e to drag and drop).
Neither features are (currently) available on the mac (although the help suggests that the '0' can be used for drag and drop).
Are there any plans to provide full mousekey support in future?
    It would certainly help me.
mini mac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The NumPad zero works for me to click-and-hold, please double check that this doesn’t work for you. NumPad zero or five will release whatever you have grabbed with the mouse cursor. Do you need anything else for Drag-and-Drop to work?
You don’t need a separate key for double-click, just hit the five key twice. You can adjust the double-click activation threshold speed if you are just getting two single clicks in a row rather than a real double-click. People who need Sticky Keys with Mouse Keys tend to use other keyboard shortcuts (like Command-O for open) rather than double-click shortcut.
For “right” click, hold down (or use Sticky Keys) the Ctrl key with the NumPad five.
One nice thing about the Mac OS is that double clicking and right clicking are entirely optional. I wish drag and drop was equally superfluous, it is a barrier for VoiceOver users.

Not sure about Pro, but on my MacBook (Leopard 10.5.6):
    In Word
= fn + right or left arrow keys only take me to the "home" or "end of the particular line I'm on.
= fn + up or down do the same as the MS "pg up" or "pg dn"
= fn + command + (arrow keys) take me to the very beginning or end of the document (Word or Excel).
    In Excel
= command + right or left jumps to the next cell that has info in it (skips empty cells)
= command + up or down jumps to the beginning or end of adjacent cells with info in them.
    = fn + right doesn't do anything
= fn + left takes me to the beginning of whatever row I'm in.
= fn + up and down are the same as pg up and pg dn. So is command + up or down arrow.
= fn + command + left arrow takes you to the beginning of the document (same as "Cntrl + Home")
