Lion Mail Dropping Attachments

I'm having a very strange mail issue. Sometimes when I send an email with attachments all the attachments don't get to the recipient. It's happend twice, jpg's and a pdf were mailed one or the other get dropped. Recipient replied asking for the other attachments...

I researched this problem in the forums and found a solution that sort of works to restore the paperclips. I copied it for anyone who has the same problem.
1 - Create a rule in the Mail Preferences pane
2 - Call it "Get My Paperclip Icons Back!"
3 - Set conditions as below :
A - If ALL of the following conditions are met :
B - From Ends With [Your email address here] (you can do this for multiple too]
C - Any Attachment Name Contain "." [with the quotations around the dot]
Perform the following actions :
D - Mark as Read [which really makes no impact on how its viewed]
Click Ok. When message "Do you want to apply your rules to messages in selected mailboxes?" I chose "Dont Apply". [But you can click "Apply" if you are in the "Sent Folder"
Then go to your sent folder, Select your messages [recent/all], and right click "Apply Rules" or from the menu Message -> Apply Rules.
Voilla! Paperclip icons are back. Plus "Mark as Read" did no harm to your already colored/flagged sent emails.
This worked for me but this still doesn't restore the photos that are included in Sent emails. I am going to make a bug report, though they probably think it's a feature not a bug. That this "feature" should have been added to Mail without notifying customers is unfortunate. I was afraid that my attachments weren't being sent.

Mountain Lion mails with attachments on exchange get lost

Dear Community,
we encounter a real annoying and weird issue with CS6 on our Macintoshs using Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
It all started, that mails with attachments (e.g. JPGS, PDFS...) just get lost and do not arrive. Not all mails but some, spontaneously. But always the same files were affected. Some work, some not.
Our company is using Exchange, and there is no message back to the sender, that the mail did not arrive. You can even see it on sent items and it occurs in Outlook 2011 as well as Apple Mail. I contacted our IT and they checked the Exchange logs and everything is fine, like the mail would have arrived, bit it does not.
We went crazy and tried almost everything, clean OS installs, new users... the funny thing: when you forward the mail out of "sent items" it arrives...
Today a milestone appeared while troubleshooting this issue: We realized, that only files saved from Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator (basically CS6) are affected. When I save a PSD as a JPEG out of Photoshop and mail it as an attachement it gets lost. Always. Same for PDFs or other file formats out of CS6.. When I open a PSD on embedded Mac Viewer and export as JPEG or PDF it does arrive the sender. So it only happens when saving the files out of CS6.
So now, I have no clue how to proceed. Is anybody else having this issue or can help us? It is a mess, because it turns our daily work to a horror.

You can try setting the below value to false and see the results too since its exceeding the recipient thread limit could be a problem with the throttling as well.

Restart the transport services after the change and see the results.

tried the change in edgetransport.exe.config. Restartet the 4 transport services (Transportdelivery,transportsubmission, transport and transport logsearch) No change though. Problem still exists. May this go into msexchangethrotteling.exe.config?

Lion Mail PDF attachments occasionally corrupting

Since upgrading to Lion I've noticed that some PDF attachments won't open in Preview - I get the following:

The file “1234.pdf” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize
=====
This continues to happen even after I drag the attachment to the desktop or rebuild the IMAP inbox.
If I go to the webmail for the email provider, open the mail and download the attchment it is fine - so something in Lion (never had this before in Snow Leopard) seems to be corrupting it.
Anyone able to shed some light on that's going on here?

So far I'm seeing this with PDFs. In one email, I had two versions of the same PDF: one was the original, and the other had been highlighted and anotated (probably in Preview). The original opens, and the other gives me problems.
I've used the highlighting feature heavily in Preview, but I've found that it occasionally corrupts the PDF, such that if you copy and paste text (not necessarily the highlighted text), it come out all garbled. I'm wondering if Lion does a better job identifying damaged PDF files (damaged by previous OS versions, perhaps). Haven't been able to look into this very much, but I'm eager to find out what the problem is.

Mail dropping attachments

Hello,
I'm using Mail and just recently the application has started not downloading some attachments. It seems fairly random (pdfs, word, etc.). Primarily from my work account on an Exchange server. When I check in Entourage or online, the attachment is there. It just doesn't appear in Mail.
Any suggestions?

I too am having this same problem. Very frustrating. If I move the email out of the inbox and into a separate different folder the attachment appears. This would be a solution, but then again I don't see the missing attachment in the first place to know to move the email. I'd really like to see a correction for this Mail bug.

How do I prevent Mac Mail from dropping attachments?

My OS X 10.7.3 Mail is dropping attachments. Any idea how to fix this? Every time I need to send an email with an attachment, I have to use webmail, and this is getting old fast. Thanks.

If Earthlink is unaffected it is probably a settimg in me.com. Log into me.com account in a browser such as Safari (will get icloud.com) and select the settings (gear) icon bottom left, and then click on the airplane icon. Make sure vacation setting is unchecked.

How to save multiple attachments in Lion Mail?

In Snow Leopard Mail, I can save multiple attachments to my Downloads folder with one click. In Lion Mail, I see no way to save attachments except by right-clicking on them one at a time. I must be missing something. Information appreciated.

I believe you are missing something. I'm not on my Mac right now but there should be a setting where to save attachments and also muiltiples at one time.

Can't drag and drop attachments in mail. Major issue!

I have to restart the computer to drag and drop attachments to an email. If I want to do another drag and drop to another email I have to restart again to make it work. It is a real pain. Do any of you guys know if their is a file I can trash to make this work or I have to wait till apple has a update to fix this? Thanks.

I did a clean install, setup several user accounts last night. Dragging and dropping was working in my main user account last night. This morning (computer on all night) I could not drag and drop anything in that particular user account including mail attachements. Other accounts worked fine. Thought it was a permissions issue but they were fine.
Ended up trashing the user account and resetting it up and everything back to normal.

For all like me who have been fooled by rss disapearing in Mountain Lion Mail

I have read lots of threads regarding the discontinued support of RSS feeds in Mountain Lion Mail, but unfortunately, after I have installed Moutain Lion (I am really angry with Apple not to have communicate on this point and to have discover it at the end of the install!).
So, after reading a lot on the subject, here's what I have made to get back everything I needed.
First, I wanted to get all my saved articles back. For this I have gone in ~Library>Mail>V2>RSS> (you have to show hidden files) Here you have the list of your old rss mailboxes. Select the ones you want to restore and drop them into a folder that's not hidden (in a folder on your desktop for example) because you won't be able to see this folder in the file selection window in the next step.
Then go to Mail->File->Import mailboxes
Select "Apple Mail". Then go to the folder previously created and select all the .mbox files you moved in.
Now you will have a new mail box with all imported subfolders and alle your saved articles. You can then rearrange them as you like.
Now, to renew your feeds subscriptions, you have no other choice than to use another rss app. And to find all your feeds links, go to ~Library>Mail>V2>RSS> or the folder previously created and in each .mbox open the info.plist file. In each file look for the string in front of "RSSFeedURLString", double click on it and copy and paste it in your new rss reader.
It's not a clean solution, it's quite long (mainly for the import of rss feeds in the new reader), it forces to have old saved articles in mail and new ones in the new app, but that's the only solution I have found.
If anyone has a better one, I think lots of us will appreciate.

I just noticed I have to run spell check when leaving a post here. The old Safari would automatically redline misspelled words.
Seems that they are taking many things away when we upgrade- don't understand.
That is a function of the forum software. Safari 6 has nothing to do with it.

Can you drag and drop the attachments visible in the email to the Desktop OK or does that fail ?
Re the sending: Are these recipients on Mac's or PC's as the file type could be an issue, if on Mac's then try setting the Mail Preferences Composing setting to Plain Text not Rich Text and see if that improves things.

In Mountain Lion, Mail why no "view as icon" option

I used to be able to compose a message, attach a PDF and right click to "view as icon." Now when I attach, I see a preview of the doc. When I save as a draft, the PDFs appear as icons. When a PC user receives them, will they arrive as PDF attachments icons only showing or will it show a preview of the doc in their opening window?

In Mountain Lion mail, it is still possible to switch between a preview and an icon of an attachment.
How somebody else is seeing it when he/she is receiving it it totally up to their mail app. It has nothing to do with PC or Mac or whatever system they use.
So you have basically no real chance to control what the receipient will see when looking at your mail.

Shortcut for changing "from" field in Lion Mail?

I manage a number of email accounts from Mail, and frequently need to send messages from one account, and then another account, and then another account ... In Snow Leopard, I enjoyed creating shortcuts to change the "from" field of an outgoing message. For example, in the keyboard system preferences pane, I assigned the command "My Name <[email protected]>" the shortcut of "SHIFT+CMD+X". That way, while writing an email, if I noticed that it was about to send from the wrong account, I'd just hit the keystroke instead of grabbing my mouse. Mail apparently knew what I was doing, because on the drop-down tab for "From", each of my mail accounts also showed the custom assigned shortcut.
This ability seems blocked in Lion. Whenever I try to re-create these shortcuts in the preferences / application-shortcuts pane, they won't work! What's worse, whenever I quite and re-open System Preferences, I find that my shortcuts have been re-assigned an extra open-bracket, such as: ">My Name <[email protected]>".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Is it possible to re-create these shortcuts in Lion Mail?

Large Pictures in Mail Drop Turn Into Small Thumbnails (Exchange Server)

When using Mail Drop through Mac Mail, large pictures (>20MB total) are converted to thumbnails with no link to the original file. This happens when I choose to use Mail Drop for the attachments.
The large picture also shows in my sent email as a thumbnail with no link.
If I go to my iDevices, I see that I am given the option to download the original large file(s) and it works. But not on my Mac using the native Mail App.
If I send a large video it does work properly.

I'm running Entourage 2008, and after successfully connecting to the exchange mail server, it will occasionally simply drop the connection (reads: not connected). Once this happens, even restarting Entourage doesn't ask me to log-in again until the mysterious issue resolves itself. Sometimes only a few minutes, but it can occasionally last an hour or two!
Did you ever get an answer to this? My wife's office is experiencing the same (or similar) problem that Entourage disconnects from the Exchange server, with no error, no message, and mail just sits in the outbox, waiting to go out. Would love to see if anyone has suggestions.

I have always been able to open e-mail photo attachments even after transferring them to the desktop or a thumbdrive, but after moving the last two to the desktop and trying to open them I get the message that ColorSync is unable to open files of this type. I believe they are jpegs.

When I attach a PDF to Apple Mail on Mountain Lion, it is an icon. When I send it to an iCloud mail destination, the attachment arrives and is presented as an icon, whether on OS X, or in IOS 6.
I suspect that the recipient's mail user agent is responsible for the full image .vs. icon behavior, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Saving mails with attachments as rtfd

since Updating to OS X Lion Mail doesn't save the attachments of emails While using save as rtfd.
Only Mails from the "Draft-Directory" are supported
Any suggestions?

In order to troubleshoot your issue, I would like to clarify the following things:
1. Please check if the issue also exists via OWA.
2. If so, please clarify which users have the issue, all users or users who were migrated?
3. If the issue doesn't occur when you used OWA, please verify if the issue happens on Outlook online mode or in cached mode.

Is Mac Mail Drop accessible to me?

I really like the new Mail Drop feature on Mac Mail, but I do have a question. Is Mail Drop accessible to me? If I want to get into the account and clear out some attachments before the thirty days expiration in order to free up space, can I do that? It may not be a problem, but I don't want attachments piling up and using up space once they have been downloaded on the other end. Thanks. I'm working on an iMac with 5k Retina, Yosemite 10.10.2.

Yes, I realize that, but there is a 5 gig limit, isn't there? What happens if you have large attachments that fill that quota but have already been downloaded on the other end and don't need to remain in Mail Drop for the full thirty days. I was just wondering if those attachments could be deleted as they can be in other cloud accounts? Thanks.
