Lion Mail help

I recently did a complete new clean install of Lion due to problems with wifi continuosly disconnecting, which always required a reboot.  Well, the clean install (vs. the upgrade I originally did) didn't help at all with wifi but it did cause me a few problems in Mail 5.2.  When I set up Mail for my AT&T Yahoo e-mail account, it would not let me set it up manually; it automatically set it up as an imap account; this account works (sort of) but it will not display all my HTML e-mails correctly.  All images will not display in about one third or more of my e-mails and the formatting of some really gets funky.  I have tried deleting the account to see if I can set it up as a POP account, but Lion seems to want to do everything automatically.  If anyone is familiar with this issue or knows how I can set up my at&t yahoo account as a POP (I have the correct servers, etc., just can't find a way to enter them) I sure would appreciate it!

Oh well, I found another thread that solved my issue, so thanks anyway but it's fixed now.

In the Add Account dialog, enter the information, then hold down the option key and click Continue. Finish setting up the account manually.

  • Spinning beachball in Mountain Lion Mail - HELP !!

    Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion
Mail is full screen and has a spinning beachball - I cant minimise the screen - I can swipe to bring up the desktop or anyother program, however whenever I go back to Mail I get the beachball.
So - I have done a 'Force Quit'
When I reopen Mail it defaults immediately to the full screen and then seconds later the spininng beachball starts.
I have done a full restart, Mail starts up the same way with the same problem.
I have held the power button in and done a PRAM reset - I still get it opening up the same way.
I've been to Disk Utility and done the verify and repair disk but the utility finds no problems, therfore nothing to repair.  I'm running out of ideas!
    Help!

    If arthur's suggestions don't work -
    Quit the application.
Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail
Move the folder to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, make sure your mail is there, and then delete the folder from your desktop.
If the application is the same, return the folder to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • How do I stop Mountain Lion Mail from downloading emails?

I create html newsletter emails for a church organization using a combination of Dreamweaver, Safari and Apple Mail.  Since I moved to Mountain Lion, however, I have an Apple Mail problem.
Our organization uses an AOL email address.  Under Lion and previous OS's, I was able to create the organization's account in Apple Mail, unclick "Include when automatically checking for new messages" in Mail Preferences, click "Enable this account" in Mail Preferences, and be able to send the finished email without routinely downloading all the emails from the organization's AOL inbox.  Although I've followed this same procedure in Mountain Lion Mail, the app still insists on downloading their emails!!  Is there any other switch to shut it off?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks. Unfortunately, I have several email accounts in Mail.  'Sorry, I didn't indicate this before.  Prior to Mountain Lion, I was able to set Mail to automatically download email for all accounts except the organization's. Although the "Include when automatically..." checkbox in the organization's specific account preferences seems to provide this control in ML ... it doesn't

  • Lion mail doesn't allow shortcuts for bold and italics.

    Hi,
I've come across this problem in which Lion mail doesn't allow shortcuts for bold and italics. I try pressing the short cut for Command + B or Command + I
but it does not affect the text at all. I have to move my cursor to the Bold or Italic icon to change a particular word's form.
Of note, Command + U allows me to underline a word just fine. I also write my mail in the default Helvetica, and in size 12.
Anyone know of a solution? I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch, but it's become a great annoyance for me.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Mountain Lion Mail cant print or save multiple messages???

The question is not a question because I already know.....
Mountain Lion Mail obviously cant print or save multiple messages !
There are multiple threads about that, but I couldnt find any solution :
I want to export a full folder of mails (emlx) to single PDFs
and I want to have the Images displayed ! (Lion Mail could do that!)
saving as RTF just shows a link and not the image if it is just a linked image
and saving multiple mails doesnt work anyway. same for printing (and save as pdf)
did anybody run into this... maybe find another solution?
automator doesnt really help on this, too, and i dind find any tool.
word opens emlx files, but the image is displayed just as a 1x1cm thumb
    that is really annoying !

I restarted the iMac and now it seems to allow this operation - so I consider this problem resolved for now.

  • Starting Lion Mail without importing old mails?

with the upgrade to Lion OSX, I lost access to my mails!
Starting Lion Mail it asks to import old mails. Only other choice is cancelling the process.
It then spends around 1hour loading (invisibly) old mails into new Lion mail (ca. 260,000 mails.)
Right before the end of the importing process, it breaks up and send error message that some index has been distroyed.... should restart mail... and it would then repair the index... THIS IS NOT THE CASE.
    I am stuck.
Can anyone please tell me, if it is possible to start Lion Mail from scratch preventing it from importing old mails automatically?
I have erased com.mail.plist as well as all folders related to my old emails, but it manages to find the old mails somewhere in the invisible parts of the computer (MacBook Pro).
    Thanks for helping out

Those Mail messages are in the Mail folder of your user's Library folder.  With Mail not running, in the Finder hold down an "option" key while you pull down the "Go" menu.  Select Library from the menu list.  In the resulting Finder window move the folder Mail to the Desktop.  You should now be able to launch Mail without that import problem.  This is a guess, but you may be able to import the contents of specific mailboxes from the saved Mail folder.

  • Lion Mail crashes when clicking on hyperlinks in messages

since installing LION, mail crashes when I click on any hyperlink in  email messages.  Interestingly it worked fine for a few days then all of a sudden the crashes started. Tried resetting PRAM; un installed a bunch of 3rd party apps that run all the time, still no luck. Unfortunately you can't re-install mail. Anyone with similar problems? Oh where oh where in 10.7.1????

    HELP!!!
Well BD, not only did I not fix my mail, but everything else is messed up.  First I Repaired Permissions which was okay, no problem.  Then I moved the first folder to the Desktop, and I think I moved the wrong Library folder.  Anyway, I tried to move it back and got a message, "there is an older version of this folder, do you want to replace"  I said yes and the message said that I did not have permission to do that.
Finally, I moved the Library folder into the Application Folder and it stayed.  However, when I restarted my computer, my entire desktop had changed.  The Dock was at the bottom and it has very large icons; my folders on the desktop were no longer lined up, but were all over the desktop.  My hard drive was at the bottom, etc.
When I clicked on Mail, it opened a window to set up a new account.  Now I do not have any of the folders that I previously had saved under my Inbox, even the Trash is gone; only Sent is there.  Also, Safari and Firefox do not have any Bookmarks.  Safari opened with a "Welcome To Safairi" window.  WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED?  And WHAT CAN I DO NOW.  I SEEM TO HAVE LOST ALL OF MY IMPORTANT SAVED MAIL FOLDERS.  I am shutting down until I get some help on putting things back right aain.

there has to be something so obvoius I am overlooking it.

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
    Quit Mail.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Delete the selected file. Relaunch Mail and test. It should re-index your mailboxes.

  • Customize flag labels in Lion Mail?

Is there a way to customize the names of labels in Lion mail, for example changing "Red" to "Urgent," etc.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    -Robert

Select an email and flag it with the color of your choice.
Under the REMINDERS section in the left column, click on the FLAGGED.
Double Click on the word "Red".
Change to whatever you would like it to read.
I have included a screenshot for your reference.  http://pix.am/GX0b/

  • After Updating Mountain Lion, Mail & Safari keep crashing; WLAN Connection fails

    After Updating Mountain Lion, Mail & Safari keep crashing; WLAN Connection fails;
I have updatet Mountain Lion and since then, Mail & Safari keep crashing plus: WLAN Connections keeps on failing from time to time.
My Router has the newest firmware, i am clueless what to do.
I even cannot shut down my mac properly.

    Hello you all,
I also had the problem of a disconnecting wifi while my imac was sleeping. I did not have the reconnecting issue after sleep, but the lost connection issue during sleep which made it impossible to reach my imac for things like homesharing, apple tv or remote desktop. I have a late 2012 iMac with a clean ML 10.8.2 on it and wirelessly connected to an apple time capsule (same as an airport extreme). My partner has a mid 2007 iMac, also with an ML 10.8.2 on it.
I tried every single solution I could find on the internet, such as changing the router's security from wpa2 to wpa, changing the MTU from automatic to manual 1453, router reboots, re-installations, re-configurations, keychain clean-ups, everything.
Eventually I solved my problem with these steps and now it works as a charm. I can still find the iMac with the remote app, even after 12 hours of sleep:
My time capsule router is set on automatic MTU and encrypted with WPA2 and I use  the 5Ghz network!
    1. Cleaned all the wifi passwords in keychain on my iMac
    2. Created a new network location in system preferences
    3. In this location I deleted the bluetooth pan and bluetooth dun connection.
    4. In this location I changed the preferred connection-order to wifi on #1 and ethernet on #2.
    5. Restarted my iMac.
Now I still have a connection when it sleeps and I can wake it to low profile using the remote app (homesharing) and everything works fine.
Hope more people wille be helped by this.

  • How do you setup HTML signatures in Mountain Lion Mail?

    Hi,
Any help with this issue will be very much appreciated.
I have just updated to Mountain Lion, it seems to work ok aside from "Mail signatures".
I am creating a new signature for my company and noticed that in Mountain Lion, mail creates a new signature with the .mailsignature file type. When I try to replace it with my .webarchive file, it does not work. Has anyone figured out a way to get my HTML signature into Mail?

  • How do I import .eml emails, etc. from Windows Mail 2011 (online version) to Lion mail program?

I have tried to find out how to import my stored .eml emails from my previous PC into my new Mac Mini Lion Mail program, so I will not lose them all.  I have tried going through Thunderbird, but all it keeps giving me for choices is Apple Mail and Eudora.  Then the Mail on the Mini only gives me choices that do not include the .eml files.  Please help!  I have a gazillion emails saved and don't want to lose them!  Thanks very much!

I see you are running Leopard. So maybe ask your question in the Leopard forum area.

  • Lion Mail - printing messages

I'm assisting a user in transitioning from Eudora 6 to OS X Lion Mail.  There are a few things she needs to do that were possible in Eudora, but don't seem to be in Mail, unless I'm missing something.
First, certain messages must be physically printed.  When printing, we need the message header, and some, but not all of the body.  Eudora used to have a "print selection" function which let you select any contiguous part of the message including the header, and print it.  I've installed the "print selection" service that's available, but the problem with it is that you can't select the header and the body, it's one or the other, so it's useless.  The other option is to print only page 1 of the message, which is better but clunky.  I have a macro for it, which helps, but still is cumbersome.  Any thoughts?
Next, the user has one email account.  But she gets messages from an service which all have easy to recognize From fields and subjects.  I've created a filter so those messages get grouped into their own mailbox.  That function is identical to what Eudora used to do.  But here's the difference: when Eudora displayed mailboxes, it also showed with an underline under the mailbox title that it had unread messages in it.  Once read, the underline went away.  It made checking for new filtered messages in that box easy.  The mailbox list in Mail doesn't show anything but the number of messages in the box (a pretty much useless figure anyway).  There's no way I can find to indicate there are new messages there.
I've thought of creating a smart mailbox, but all that does is clutter up the main inbox with messages that should be grouped in their own box.  Any way to get Mail to indicate it's got new unread messages in a mailbox?
I'd have her back on Eudora, but V6 won't run above OS X 10.5, and their newest open-source version won't run at all without Rosetta, so not in Lion.
If you mail- masters have any ideas, I'm wide open!
    Thanks!

    I just noticed this:
    1) Horizontally divide the "Drafts" window so can see titles, and below, the msgs.
    2) In the "To" column, click on one of the undeletable msgs;
    3) The full msg will show up under the bar (the bar with the small dot in the middle).
    4) Move the mouse over the heading of the msg ("From":, for example).
    5) A set of four gray icons will appear on the line between heading and body.
    6) One of those gray icons is a trash bin.
    7) Click that bin and the message will be deleted.
That's ok - keeps user from having to move the mouse up to the top of the window to click the trash bin (if it worked, and it does not). So Apple needs to fix this problem. And, I really liked having a red "delete" symbol that could be dragged into the toolbar (that's optional, of course -- just get the main delete icon working first.)

  • After installing Mt. Lion, Mail no longer asks for a password, even though I set preference for using a password.

After installing Mt. Lion 10.8.2, Mail no longer asks for a password before opening messages, even though I tried to set preferences for using the password. Help!

In Mail Preferences, Accounts item: I tried to delete the password (but that did not save). I got this idea from some Mail Help item that I cannot seem to find again. I cannot recall how I did it in Snow Leopard, but I had it set to ask for a password that was used solely for Mail. It would not download anything until I entered that password. Note: I am not on a network; just the single user of the MacPro. Thank you for any guidance you might be able to offer.
