Lion mail smart folder updating

I have performed a clean install of Lion and noticed the new Mail client is not auto-refreshing smart folders.
In Snow Leopard (and earlier) a smart folder created to show unread messages would update any time a new message arrives.  In Lion the only way to get it to refresh is to click on another folder and click back.
Has anyone noticed this and/or found a solution?

Any solutions to this?  I'm not using GrowlMail and my smart mailboxes where working wonderfully until a few days ago.  Now I have to click into the smart mailbox in order for it to show me the un-read email bubble.  It doesn't appear to be spotlight related as was proposed in some earlier discussions on this topic under Leopord (I'm using Lion).

When opening Mail, it's asking me to wait while it sets up. The bar shows it updating but it never completes the update/set up. IdeaS?

If your iPhoto version was iPhoto 7 (08) before you upgraded to Yosemite then you need to download and run/apply the upgrade application to your iPhoto Library before iPhoto 9.6 can open it.  Had you run the upgrade app?

  • Mac Mail Smart Folder to organize HR applications?

    hi all.
i am looking at purchasing filemaker for our business and am wondering if this might not be more easily solved WITHIN Mac Mail.
one problem we have is with incoming resumes and portfolios via email. normally this is an EMAIL and a COVER LETTER (doc or pdf) and a PORTFOLIO (in pdf format). i am wondering if there is some step by step instructions or perhaps some help or ideas that we should look at on how we might organize this info in Mac Mail or if it makes more sense to try to do this in FileMaker or even something else like one of the Devon products.
right now we are printing these out and it is really inconvenient.
a couple items i am noticing is that the FILENAMES of the attachments do not always have the applicants name in it and the cover letter is not always a separate file but is sometimes in the /body/ of the email (we currently use Mac Mail and Sparrow). also, while in the past we have tried to organize pdf's on the HARD DRIVE after we have downloaded it, /most/ of the incoming emails do in fact have a HEADER in the email that associates the applicant with the JOB POSITION. this would help a great deal in the sense that if we could use this it would "pre-sort" the applicants and we could then SORT FURTHER by adding tags or information after the information was already in a database.
    any help would be appreciated.
    TIA

    hi. thanks.
i have two problems with this.
the first is that the emails that came in do not have any particular identifying information in them and there are emails for at least a year but probably going back three years. i don't want to have to search through all my emails in order to find these. i want to organize them in my computer instead of having them organized in paper as they are now.
so if i could get into an attachments folder i could take them out and cross reference them against the paper versions once i grab them. this would be much easier than searching for them one by one i think. i mean, i should start a new thread for this question but i also have .doc files and likely other files and Mail Search does not seem so robust.
so. once thing i was wondering with the post was whether there was a way to sort these as they COME IN and moving forward have filters set up to catch them. this way if someone does not put the correct header on the mail (i.e. they are not paying attention) their email does not go into the folder but if they do their email does go into this folder and this way i have an /automated/ way of keeping up moving forward.
so #1 would be to figure out a way to get caught up (finding where Mail stores attachments if i can access them would be of help) and #2 would be to find a way to sort these automagically. i have posted to FileMaker to see if FileMaker can find these emails and portfolios as they come into Mail but the more i think about it the more helpful it would be to sort them when they come in as email attachments.
it is sort of a nightmare to find these and sort them even moving forward in "real time".
    THANKS

  • Lion Mail - RSS Feeds quit updating

I just came back from vacation and my RSS feeds in Lion Mail won't update. When I click on one, it's empty and when I tell it to individually update or Update All, it tries and nothing updates. Any ideas? Thanks!

i was able to find this on another website...
CXL: Safari fails to display RSS feeds when CPU is under load or free disk space on system drive is small. That pretty much sums it up. It's annoying, too, because if Time Machine is doing its hourly backup or I'm converting video files, Safari's RSS display repeatedly fails with the same error message: "Mach errore 268451843 - (ipc/rcv) timed out" or "NSMachErrorDomain:268451843". Under the same conditions, Safari fetches and displays normal webpages perfectly fine. Filed: 5610533.
but this doesn't make sense, I have about 4.5 GB free on my startup drive....
i also found this apple thread which is about the same issue, but also has no resolution..

if anyone figures anything out please help! thank you!

  • Mail Smart Folders across accounts / between Macs

OS X Mail Smart Folders are very useful, but I have one problem:
My "Unread" folder between accounts and Macs has two criteria: Unread, plus on one account, not in a certain Inbox. Now, the mail account that I use for that 2nd criteria is only set up for use on one account. I have 2 accounts on my Mac Pro and 1 account on my MBP. When I check my Mail Unread folder on the other account and other Mac, the Unread folder syncs across iCloud, but since that email account I use for the 2nd criteria is not set up (active) on the other account / Mac, the Unread folder essentially breaks. If I edit it, then it breaks on the other user account where that 2nd criteria is effective.
Does that make sense? Anyone else having iCloud Mail Smart Folder sync issues across accounts / Macs?
Running OS X Yosemite all up to date on everything.

iCloud does not support or sync Smart Mailboxes or local folders. You can create mailboxes at the iCloud.com site that will be IMAP and show in the Mail sidebar under the iCloud folder. Those will show up on all devices.
Other than that, iCloud will only sync Mail's main mailboxes (default mailboxes).
    In Addition to better explain:
Local folders under On My Mac are folders only located on the computer. They are not part of any IMAP or Exchange account.
Smart Mailboxes are for the most part just search engines. Messages are not stored in those, but they merely point to messages which actually reside in the original mailbox where they are stored.

  • Lion Mail creates a new folder in Yahoo Mail called "Sent Messages"

For some reason, since updating to 10.7.5, Mail no longer puts sent messages into the proper "Sent" folder of my Yahoo accounts. It creates a new folder in Yahoo Mail called "Sent Messages" and stores them there. This new folder is only visible from iOS devices' Mail or by logging into Yahoo through a web browser. Lion Mail doesn't sync this new folder, for whatever reason.
Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this or has found a fix.

Okay, thanks to nobody for their help.  But I figured it out anyway.  Somehow there was a rule which had the "if-then" result of "move to (my wife's name) mailbox" -- so when such an email arrived, Mail would have to create the (previously-deleted) mailbox in order to follow the rule.  So I just deleted that rule.

  • Why does a "Today" smart folder appear in Mail and How do I Keep it from Reappearing Every Day?

I use two Macs daily, each running 10.9.2. On my home machine, every day at 12 AM, a smart folder called "Today" appears in Mail. I delete it, and the following midnight, another instance appears; lather, rinse repeat. I can see no control that will prevent its zombielike reappearance. I never asked for it or sought it out, it just keeps reappearing. On my work machine, which is left on 24 x 7 (as my home machine is five days a week), nothing of the sort occurs.
Why, Apple, why? Why, Apple community, why? I can find no documentation And why is the behavior different on two machines, both updated to 10.9.2 from previous versions, on none of which did this brain-eating behavior occur?
For what it's worth, I have an Exchange IMAP account and two (2) POP accounts on each machine.

I recently moved most of my accounts to another mail client, deleted all my mail related stuff from Library including the entire V2 folder, restarted fresh then just have icloud account in there. I have the smart box. Maybe it is an icloud smartbox? Do you have icloud in Mail?

  • TS4083 Is there a way or a setting my folders in Mail to automatically update across all devices? if I transfer an email to a folder for follow-up on my PC, my folder in Mail on my iPhone doesn't update until I actually go into the folder and update manua

Is there a way (or a setting) for my individual folders in Mail to automatically update across all devices? For example, if I transfer an email to a folder for follow-up on my PC - say 10th of the following month - the same folder in Mail on my iPhone doesn't update until I actually go into the folder and update manually.  Interestingly though, if I create a new folder on any of my devices they automatically appear on the other devices so it is just the actual contents that I am referring to here.  Appreciate any help or guidance.
    Regards
    Justin

You can turn mail off in the settings but then you can't use it for anything, including the "test" that you want to perform.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Account Name>Mail>Off. That totally turns off the mail account.
As long as mail is turned on and you launch the app, it will look for an download new mail.

  • Smart Folder or Search for Exchange Invites in Mail

    Hi,
I'm using MAC Mail with the MS Exchange Server at work.
I was looking for a way to quickly search or create a smart folder to group all of these items in Mail.
    Is this possible?  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Frank

I had the same problem appear when I added a second exchange account into mac mail. I wanted my Sent email to pull from my primary email account. I deleted my primary account and re-added it. When it pulled all the messages in again, my Sent folder items came back.

  • TS3276 Lion mail;  sent emails show up in the draft folder as well as the sent folder.  Often the draft will appear a day after the email was actually sent

    Lion mail
Emails that have been Sent show up in the Draft folder as well as th e Sent folder.
Often they may not show up in Draft folder until the next day.
Is there a correction for this?

no,  I only use mac as my incoming and outgoing server.
What I did was un check the draft box in the mail preferences,
and will see if that works.  Since I use only the computer for emails
the cloud isnt being used to its max anyway.
    Thanks taking time to share

  • How to create smart folder in Lion

    Hi,
I was using Smart folders a lot in Snow Leopard. For example I have Movie folder and lot of movies in it. The movie I haven't seen yet are labeled as red and there is smart folder, which shows me just the red (unseen) folders.
However the smart folder doesn't work in Lion. So I deleted them and wanted to create new one. However when I create new Smart folder it can search just "This Mac" or "jakudo" (my account) or "Shared", I cannot set the "Movie" folder. How should I do that? Or is there some new way how to do that in Lion?

Smart Folders seem to be getting smarter Something like this maybe?
Select 'Kind is Folder' first, then narrow it down to Movie in the Search box to add a smart tag. Next Hit the + sign and set further filters as required.
I've only played with this briefly but it might be what you're looking for?
    Regards,
    Colin R.

  • After Updating Mountain Lion, Mail & Safari keep crashing; WLAN Connection fails

    After Updating Mountain Lion, Mail & Safari keep crashing; WLAN Connection fails;
I have updatet Mountain Lion and since then, Mail & Safari keep crashing plus: WLAN Connections keeps on failing from time to time.
My Router has the newest firmware, i am clueless what to do.
I even cannot shut down my mac properly.

    Hello you all,
I also had the problem of a disconnecting wifi while my imac was sleeping. I did not have the reconnecting issue after sleep, but the lost connection issue during sleep which made it impossible to reach my imac for things like homesharing, apple tv or remote desktop. I have a late 2012 iMac with a clean ML 10.8.2 on it and wirelessly connected to an apple time capsule (same as an airport extreme). My partner has a mid 2007 iMac, also with an ML 10.8.2 on it.
I tried every single solution I could find on the internet, such as changing the router's security from wpa2 to wpa, changing the MTU from automatic to manual 1453, router reboots, re-installations, re-configurations, keychain clean-ups, everything.
Eventually I solved my problem with these steps and now it works as a charm. I can still find the iMac with the remote app, even after 12 hours of sleep:
My time capsule router is set on automatic MTU and encrypted with WPA2 and I use  the 5Ghz network!
    1. Cleaned all the wifi passwords in keychain on my iMac
    2. Created a new network location in system preferences
    3. In this location I deleted the bluetooth pan and bluetooth dun connection.
    4. In this location I changed the preferred connection-order to wifi on #1 and ethernet on #2.
    5. Restarted my iMac.
Now I still have a connection when it sleeps and I can wake it to low profile using the remote app (homesharing) and everything works fine.
Hope more people wille be helped by this.

  • Mail 6.2 - I can't keep drafts out of a smart folder.

I love smart folders.  They are great for dividing and subdividing my mail, do the organizing for me.  They can put the school stuff where I want it and know the difference between, say, physics and petrology.  Same for sports: little league goes here, old-guy softball team goes there.  Brilliant.
I also love the auto-draft feature.  The sample rate is such that I'm never a sentance or two ahead of my last saved draft.  Again, brilliant.
The problem lies with an interface of these two much-beloved aspects of my new machine (2012 Air, OSX 10.8.2).  I can't figure out how to keep the many iterations of each draft matching the appropriate smart folder criteria out of said smart folder.  Having one complete version of the final sent message would be great.  Having a running record of the message in the folder is not so great.
I have tried creating rules that:
remove any message with my email in the "from" category.
make an exhaustive list of addressees and addressors (is that a word?) as requirements to be in the folder.
list obvious addressees/-ors that would be obviously not appropriate for that folder.
None of these worked 100% and in some cases they screwed up the whole grand idea.
    One glaring issue is this:
When I opt to not include messages from the trash in the requirements menu for a smart folder it has no effect.  I end up with trash items in the smart folder - in this case, heaps of draft iterations from the same message.  Since drafts seem to go away after the corresponding message is sent, I wonder if there is a ding in the program itself that's overlooking this.
Or, equally likely, I'm missing something really obvious.
So, obviously, help, advise, opine, etc.  I have a few opinions as to what could be added to Mail 6.3 to make it even more convenient for my little world but I'll save the wish list for another forum.
    Thanks,
    Adrian

A smart folder is just a saved search based on a search criteria.  The mail isn't in the folder, it's just the results of a "find".  Look for the mail in one of your inboxs.   The only way to alter the contents of a smart mailbox is to delete the mail, change the search criteria or move it to a folder the smart folder doesn't search.
