Lion Needed To Access Just iCloud Mail?

Hello-
I am starting the transition from MobileMe to iCloud. This is mainly for Mail to start. To use iCloud mail, do I have to have Lion? Or can I just use standard Apple Mail client (or any mail client for that matter)?
I know Lion is needed for Contact and Calendar syncing, but is it needed for just mail? The transition overview page says that Lion is required.
BTW, I know others have said this, this transition is very poorly executed. I don't want to go to Lion and my current data syncing works well. Shame on you Apple >:| for forcing me to 'downgrade' to Lion.

You can use any mail client that supports Imap, Mac Mail on Snow Leopard is one example.

Hi. I am new to using an iPad. I have set up an icloud email address for use by all the family.. I want to set up my own as my pop email does not seem to work well on this apple platform. An Alias would be an email address that is delivered to a different account's inbox.
For instance if you have [email protected] and have [email protected] Then [email protected] would be an alias if mails from that address arrive at the icloud address.
If you want to add a completely different account, with a spearate inbox, like an account in hotmail and one in say yahoo mail. Then as has been pointed out, you need to go into the Settings Icon, Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and then on add account. The iPad has several services preconfigured, you can tap on one of those from the list to setup an email for that service. Such as Hotmail, Gmail etc...
Or you can tap on other to add a personal pop3 or imap type email like from your office, or your school.

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

Reset your password. Be sure your new one meets the requirements for length (8) and characters (at least one upper case and one number).

The Apple ID and Password that was used to Activate the iDevice is required
If you do not have that information you will not be able to use the Device.

Unable to access my iCloud mail from an portal and need in ASAP. How can I access my messages?

At around 9:00P Pacific last night, I received my last email message through iCloud to my [email protected] address. I've tried on my iPad, PC, MacBook Pro and iPhone. I've done a full password reset to be compliant with the newest password standards. I've deleted my iCloud account from my MacBook Pro and iPhone. I've reset network setting on iPhone. Then I tried to log into iCloud.com (should have tried earlier) and I can get to all my applications (calendar, documents, etc.), EXCEPT Mail. I can't find any available route to access my .me mail and need to get to it urgently for travel plans and work documents.
Any suggestions? Please assist if possible.
So far, Apple hasn't been able to help either.

Can I Access my iCloud mails from 10.6

Hi Haven't upgraded my mail mobileme account to icloud because I need access to the mails while working in 10.6. I do spent a fair amount of my sparetime editing in Final Cut Pro Studio on my Mac Pro. And I have been unable to get it to work proberly in 10.7.x. I thus do need access to 10.6.x. I tried installing Final Cut on a newly formatted and installed 10.7.x disc, but the program crashes on startup. It does not do that when working in 10.6.x
If I upgrade to iCloude. Will I then be able to access my mails while working in 10.6.x ?

You can migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard - when asked to confirm that you have Lion on your Mac, just lie and say 'yes'.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it. You may find the MobileMe email settings will continue to work for a time after migrating but it will stop eventually so you should not rely on this. You should delete your MobileMe email account from Mail.
You can then set up Mail manually in Snow Leopard to access iCloud email; it's a slight fudge because the 'wizard' will attempt to connect you to MobileMe as soon as you enter an @me.com address. The process, which includes a workaround for this, is described here:

You may be able to sync you calendars to iCloud by means of a hack, but you cannot sync Contacts or Bookmarsk and iCloud's other facilities will not work. This page outlines the situation when you migrate to iCloud, including a link to the calendar hack:

That's really a question for you to answer yourself, changing an email address may not be the best of ideas if it's well known to others. On the other hand iCloud mail is an IMAP account (it syncs between devices) which may be an advantage if your current address is just a POP account.
I use my iCloud address for secondary mail in conjunction with my main address.

I have an old PowerPC G4 800hz imac. I am running mac OSX 10.4.11 on it. I have a mac mini and an ipad that I use normally for accessing mail from my icloud account. This morning I tried to access mail on the Power PC but kept getting error messages saying that it could not load mail. Is there something about icloud that now requires later versions of OS10? Can I even run them on the Power PC, it recall reading that I can't. Perhaps I could open a GMail account and access icloud via it? Ideas please.

Admitedly I may not have this right. There was a post a week or so ago regarding this problem. I just don't recall whether it was the primary email address of the icloud account that was the problem or something else. At any rate, look at this link, it might help.

The following answers the question you ask in the title of your post...
Because the mail app cannot go into other apps' data, like the photo app. The way to send email with an attachment is to invoke the app that "owns" the file you want to send. If that app has a "share" icon (a box with curvy arrow coming out of it) and if clicking that icon offers "mail" as an option, that is how to send an email with the file attached.
However, the body of your post discusses "access"ing attachments. If you are reading an email and there's an attachment icon at the bottom, press and hold the icon with your finger. A menu pops up with different choices. If you can't veiw it because there's no option to do that, then the file type is one that is not compatible with any of the apps onl your iPad.

All Email seems slow since 4S (not just iCloud mail)

Ever since I upgraded from my 4 to a 4s all my email seems slow.
This includes my former mobileme email as well as an exchange server from work.
For example right now I am looking at an email on my phone that shows as "new" even through I deleted the email from my computer 2 hours ago via mail.app and exchange. I also have sent myself email at this address from my phone and it shows no problem going through but never show up in the other account.
mobileMe has a smiliar problem but it sometimes doesn't even want to send. I have no confidence I am getting all my emails into my mobile me account. I know at least one person said they got an invalid address when using my @mac.com address, but others seem to have worked fine.
Anyone else having this issue?

Solved my problem by loging out from iTunes store and loging back in...
