    If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • How do I install Lion on an MBP with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Boot Camp'd XP and a Master Boot Record?

    I think this is called "a pickle."
    The machine is a 13" MacBook Pro, 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo w/ 4 GB RAM and a 500 GB HDD.
    The HDD has a Snow Leopard 10.6.8 partition, and a Windows XP partition, via Boot Camp.  Its Partition Map Scheme, sadly, is a Master Boot Record. I need to reformat it to a GUID Partition Table scheme to install Lion, but when I attempt to boot it from the Snow Leopard 10.6.0 DVD to wipe the drive, it grey-screens.  Dead end.
    From what I can gather on the forums, I can't boot a 10.6.8 machine using a Snow Leopard 10.6.0 DVD.  I can't find my grey DVDs for this machine – still looking for those – but I expect those won't work either, being Leopard-generation?
    The machine works fine, for the most part, including the optical drive.  Has occassional display and wake glitches.  Its HDD is backed up on a Drobo via Time Machine.  I also have a 15" MBP Core i7 (with the exact same problem: 10.6.8, XP, MBR) which I can use for Target Disk Mode via FireWire.  If I try to wipe the HDD on the 13", using Disk Utility on the 15" via Target Disk Mode, will the 13" then boot successfully from the Snow Leopard 10.6.0 DVD?
    I just want to wipe the 13" machine, reinstall a fresh copy of Snow Leopard, then update it to Lion and restore from Time Machine, and never touch anything Windows-related ever again. (And then do the same for my 15", for which I've found my 10.6.3 grey disc. Not sure if that's any more promising.)
    Any help appreciated!

    Sounds like something is wrong with your disk. Have you tried cleaning it?
    The Snow Leopard 10.6.0 DVD is fine – it mounts on both my 13" and 15", and I successfully created an image of it on my 15".  I also tried my wife's Snow Leopard 10.6.0 DVD, also clean, which produced the same grey screen result.
    Have you tried to use boot camp to erase the Windows partition?
    Yep, this is supposed to be the proper way to remove a Windows XP partition from Boot Camp, so this was the first thing I tried.  I get the same error as everyone with a Master Boot Record scheme appears to get:
    The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
    Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) volume.  Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
    So, if I can't launch the Disk Utility from the Snow Leopard DVD, my next best guess is wiping it from my 15" over Target Disk Mode.  However, if I try that, and still can't get it to boot from the Snow Leopard 10.6.0 DVD, then I'm stuck with an MBP without an OS.
    My conclusion – that 10.6.0 DVDs can't boot to 10.6.8 machines – was based on forum posts about downgrading from Lion.  I was wondering if there's a way to create a "10.6.8 restore DVD," and try booting from that.  Shot in the dark perhaps.

  • I cannot connect to my iMac or my Mackbook from my Windows 7 PC after installing Lion. Worked fine with Snow Leopard

    I have a 2009 iMac and a mid 2007 Macbook. I also have an HTPC running Windows 7. I can connect fine to the HTPC from either the iMac or the Macbook, however, I am completely unable to connect to my Macbook or iMac from my PC. This was never a problem prior to upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard. Please be advised that I know how to set my network up and have tried everything possible. I upgraded my iMac to Lion first and noticed the problem. After checking my settings I was stumped. I noticed that my PC could still connect to my Macbook running Snow Leopard. I then, today, installed Lion on my Macbook and replicated the problem I was experiencing on my iMac. Any suggestions?

    The same happens to me!!! Any help out there?

  • Windows 7 install issue with Snow Leopard

    Hey Guys!
    Just upgraded my Macbook Pro (Unibody Late 2008) to Snow Leopard and did all software updates.  I then partitioned the drive to install Windows.  When installing Windows it would only install if I reformatted the partition I wanted to install it on.  So I did that.  After hours of installing and udating Windows 7 I found that I did not have bootcamp on the bar at the bottom.  I tried to upgrade to BootCamp 3.1 but it says Bootcamp 3.0 is needed and not present.
    How do I install Bootcamp 3.0 from Windows?
    How do I get back to Mac OS?  I have been stuck (ugh!!!) in Windows since Friday...
    I tried to download the pdf file to read about installing Windows 7 but Windows will not install Acrobat Reader  (I really hate windows), fought with it for 1 hour trying to install it.
    anyways thanks in advance for the help

    Hey Guys
    I eventually solved the Boot Camp Problem but then shortly after that had a different problem crop up.
    It will not boot my Mac OS, it says the partition is corrupted.  Even if I boot from an install disk, it will not mount the Mac portion of the Hard drive.  Best info I can get on the issue is that part of my B Tree is too large?  Mac Repair utility will not fix it.
    Suggestions?  Even if I cannot use the partition as a bootable drive I would like to get my data from that disk.  Unfortunately I do not seem to have a backup of the data on that drive.
    thanks

  • App Store will not install anything on Snow Leopard

    I just fixed (replaced HD) a Mac Book Pro 2010 with 8GB of ram. I install Snow Leopard in it and updated everything. Now I can't install anything using App Store. First, I wanted to upgraded to Yosemite, but clicking on the Download anything was not doing anything.
    Then I tried to install anything else. Nothing works. Basically, App Store is useless here.
    I opened Console and I see this error every time I click any install or download button:
    12/15/14 10:03:09 AM
    App Store[260]
    ERROR: ITSExceptionHandler: {message:"TypeError: 'undefined' is not a function", url:"unknown (might be html-embedded script?)", lineNumber:"unknown"}
    I suspect the App Store is using some embedded JS code that is not compatible with the old version of Safari used in Snow Leopard.
    Can anyone provide any help with this?

    I completely agree that torrents are a perfect place to inject nefarious bits of code and I meant only to highlight the extremes that I needed to go to in order to workaround this bug. As for the illegal part, I already own the software and was unable to access it from the app store as a result of Apple's failure to put safeguards in place concerning compatibility issues (even if SL is a dead OS). Were apple to provide any of the following things I would not have needed to resort to torrent files:
    1. Provide hard copies of OSX (not just dead ones)
    2. Provide DL links when purchasing OSX (not just app store codes)
    3. Provide support (just to chat with a representative costs $30)
    In the end I am confident that there are no "extra" bits of code but required a lot of extra work. I used the copy of mavericks only to download the installer for Yosemite from the now working App Store which I then produced a bootable USB drive from. Then I did a clean install of OSX Yosemite (erased and installed on HD). After that I booted to recovery mode and once again erased my HD and installed Yosemite from the now present recovery partition.

  • IDVD not working right with Snow Leopard...a possible fix

    I was having the following issue with iDVD and my new fresh install on a new hard drive of snow leopard 10.6.4:
    iDVD would open to the screen where you chose what you want to do
    I would click create a new project and get to name it
    Nothing would happen but I knew the program was still running. I could see it in the activity monitor
    I would go to quit iDVD and it would ask me to save changes and the beach ball would start spinning and I would have to force quit from the dock
    Then I found this post after looking litterally all day for a fix....these instructions worked for me and my iDVD is now working normally...
    (1) Go this folder:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Framew orks/
    (2) There should be 3 aliases there:
    ImageIO.framework
    ImageKit.framework
    QuartzComposer.framework
    (3) In my case, the QuartzComposer.framework was actually a folder. I removed this and created a new alias to
    /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/QuartzComposer .framework
    After making the new alias, iDVD now works just fine. Not sure why this frameworks folder had become damaged like this. I am hoping that there are no negative effects on any of my other applications, but I've kept a backup of the original folder just in case.
    I moed the quartzcomposer folder to 2 levels back and made an alias and put it in the A/frameworks folder and viola...iDVD worked for me! I am a happy mac user now

    Thanks, had exactly the same problem.
    Switched to administrator
    $ su adminusername
    Navigated to the folder
    $ cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Frame works
    Listed the contents of the folder
    $ ls -le@
    Renamed the folder QuartzComposer.framework
    $ sudo mv QuartzComposer.framework/ QuartzComposer.framework.old/
    Replaced with a symbolic link to the correct framework
    $ sudo ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/QuartzCompose r.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Frame works
    iDVD works!!!

  • Install problems with Snow Leopard on Powerbook G4

    I have an old Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 that I wanted to upgrade to try to get the computer in a more steady state. I bought Snow Leopard but when I try to Install it, it says it can't install because it needs a Intel-based mac. Isn't the G4 an Intel-based Mac? Is there anything I can do. Or is 10.4.11 the farthest I can "update"

    Before upgrading to 10.5.8, consider the following:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275
    Also if it is not a steady state now, it most likely won't be when upgrading either.   You should first identify why your machine is having trouble now, until you know for certain there isn't some software driver issue, or hardware issue, you can't upgrade. Perhaps it is best if you identified your current issues, and someone can help you isolate them.

  • Visio 2013 32-bit trial version will not install even with other 32-bit MS products only.

    Trying to load MS Visio 2013 Trial to determine if it works so I can purchase full version.
    Environment: MacBook Pro, w/ VMWare Fusion 4, Windows 7, running only MS Project 32-bit on the VMWare side. MS Office is not installed only MS Project.
    Downloaded Visio 2013 Trial img file and attempted to install. Received 64-bit conflict with 32-bit software error message. Deleted Visio 2013 64-bit version and redownloaded Visio 2013 Trial img this time in 32-bit. Tried to install but the same 64-bit
    conflict message is appearing.  As the only software I have installed is MS Project 32-bit it does not appear that there should be a conflict.  I have scanned TechNet and Googled to try and understand how to determine and resolve the conflict but
    there are no threads to address this specific problem.
    P.S. I cannot uninstall and reinstall MS Project as I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft and VMWare Support to get it installed the first time so I don't want to mess with an existing environment that is finally working.
    Microsoft online chat recommended calling MS Support and they have now sent me to you. Can you please help?

    Dear Smith_123:
    Thank you for your reply. However, Office had never been previously on the OS as it was never purchased.  I do have Office for Mac 2011 but that is 32 bit and is not on the VMWare / Windows side of the machine.  But even if I had, I would not know
    how to clean up the residual file or registry keys without assistance.
    After 1 hours and 20 min on the phone last evening and being handed from person to person through literally 9 different people, I finally reached someone that seemed knowledgeable in MS Support.  But all they would give me was a circular answer:
    We can't help you because it is a Trial Version for which there is no support offered. When I explained I wanted to be sure Visio worked on my machine prior to spending between $300 and $600 on a copy, Support could only say that I would have to purchase it
    first before they would give me any help to see if it works. When I offered to purchase it right then since I had finally gotten to someone who appeared as though they could help, he told me that he was Support and not Sales so I would have to go elsewhere
    to purchase the product.  Very frustrating.

  • Is it possible to use iCloud between a MBA with Lion and a iMac with snow leopard?

    I have an iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.8 and an MBA with Mac OS X 10.7.2. I want to use iCloud to synchronise my pages documents, my calendar and adressbook between the two. Is that possible?

    Go to iCal preferences.
    Set up new account.

  • Randomly kicked off wireless even with Snow Leopard.

    I had 10.5.8 and was suddenly being kicked off wireless repeatedly. Several groups said upgrading to Snow Leopard would fix the problem but it hasn't. I still get kicked off wi-fi randomly. It reconnects on its own after a few minutes, then starts again. It's not my internet service as Ethernet connectivity works fine. Does this sound like a software issue? The router itself?

    Have you tried a different channel on the router?

    Before updating to Snow Leopard, I would use the "Export to Web" feature in Quicktime Pro 7.  The desktop option would give me a small file size with a resolution of 853x496.  Why does it now give me a much larger file size at 1280x720?  This is slowing down my workflow, please advise.

  • Command-T opens new window not new Tab with Snow Leopard

    Does anyone else have this issue? Command-T opens new window not new Tab with SL.
    And yes all my settings are correct!!

    Greetings,
    If your preferences for Tabs are correctly set (the top two checkboxes are checked) and it's still opening a new window, then it would seem your preferences may be corrupt. In that case, you should quit Safari, go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.Safari.plist file.
    Then restart Safari, setup your preferences again, and test to see if it works.

  • IBM Infoprint 1145 not working properly with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 (Network)

    Since the last OS update to 10.6.4, IBM Infoprint 1145 printer doesn't work properly. We have the printer working as a network printer with all the protocols enabled and now it takes almost 5 minutes to print a page.
    No problem with the rest of network printers.
    I have reinstalled the drivers again and it behaves the same.
    With 10.6.3 and older versions the printer worked perfectly.
    Any ideas?

    Solved... The problem was due to the use of an external DNS. Using the DNS servers of my organization within the network configuration solved the issue.
