Lion not saving settings, library privileges problem?

Yesterday I did a clean install off Lion after running the last 3 developer previews without any big problems.
After the clean install I started restoring data and setting back, but only what I needed !!
For example:
I restored the e-mail settings and two folders and opened the mail app.
After putting in all the password of the accounts I edit the new mail sound.
The sound would not work, also some settings in the e-mail accounts I edited would not save.
Only after I opened mail and removed the settings file and closed mail it was saved and it looks like it's saving every time.
Just now I setup iStat menus 3 and made everything as I like it in the menu bar.
But after restarting to complete a other installation the normal clock was back and the objects from iStat menus wore gone.
The are also some finder settings that will not save.
Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it ??

Hi,
You may have solved your issues by now, but I have similar issues with iStat Menus ver 3.18. It is suppose to be Lion Compatible, but I'm finding it very buggy. I get some console errors, mainly relating to menucracker which they use. Searching around the web so other users with similar issues. The problem (at least as I understand it) is that it fails to save changes to the pref file. Most errors are seen on clean Lion installations. If you upgrade from SL, it will generally work. I've sent them some error reports, but have heard nothing back.

having a ton of issues and not sure if it's upgrading to Lion, updating iTunes or something else causing the problem.
    When I'm logged in as the main user getting a ton of problems including;
    1)  no matter which box I check or uncheck or which windows I close before shutting down, every time I log in as my usual user it opens about 20 windows including about 6 files in Excel which I've already closed, said I wanted to delete (they were recovered), etc.  Other windows that open are firefox, settings, a video I started watching about a month ago, etc
    2)  applications are frequently crashing
    3)  nothing will synch with itunes.  I plug in the iphone, ipad or touch and it recognizes that it's there and then proceeds to do the rotating rainbow thing for ever (I've tried leaving something plugged in overnight) or until I force quite
    4)  iphoto indicates that the library needs repairing - repairing does nothing, rebuilding does nothing, repairing permissions does nothing, removing and reinstalling does nothing.
5)  most settings are not saved.  things like changing the Login Items, 'Restore Windows when quitting...' option do not save but things like file sharing options does save.
    what I've tried that didn't work;
    1) reinstalling Lion
    2) reinstalling itunes
    3) reinstalling iphoto
    4) reinstalling itunes with iphoto removed
    5) tried quitting applications with option-command-Q (they still reopened when I re logged in)
    5) also tried to manually delete the 'saved application states' but can't get to the folder (can find the library folder but it says the saved application states folder does not exist)
the only thing that works is setting up a new user and logging in there.  Most of the problems seem to go away but all my files, itunes library, etc are under my other user.
so, anyone have any ideas?  if not, is there an easy way to transfer all my files, itunes library (hopefully including playlists!), etc?
    Thanks for any help!

Sounds like something malicious or malfunctioning in your user.
What you can do is use the Grouping or other tag feature to tag all your songs in certain playlists, this will apply to the song file itself.
For instance I have music grouped like this:
    Popular 00's Medium Hits
    Popular 90's Hard Hits
Classic Rock 80's Very Hard Hits
    Blues 70's Medium Hits
So I can create Smart Playlists containing the keywords in the Grouping.
No you don't have to go through all that. Something to think about in the future when you switch machines or need to transfer to another user.
You can simply transfer your entire iTunes folder into the Music folder of the new user via the Users/Shared folder, open a copy of the
    iTunes Music Library.xml
In TextEdit or another text program with "find and replace" ability.
Change all instances of your old user name with the new one, save and relaunch iTunes, it will load this file and have the correct pathname/user to locate your files so the playlists remain intact.
Once your up on the new user, delete the infected or corrupted one, as that what it seems to be occuring.

  • MSI GT70 not saving settings

Hello, I have a new GT70 2oc-008us and when I purchased the laptop I also bought a Samsung 840 120gb ssd and I installed and migrated the OS myself. Everything else works fine like games but I have this weird issue with non of the MSI installed programs saving their setting after a shutdown. For example, the killer network manager is not saving the setting in which it shows the dialog on close or auto updating which is kinda annoying and the sound blaster cinema is not saving settings like when I plug in my headphones it goes to 5.1 surround instead of headphones or when I play around with the equalizer or the surround sound option to optimize movie or gaming experience. This is quite annoying because I play a lot of games and watch a lot of movies and I do not like constantly changing my settings. So if you know of a solution to my problem could you please help me out?
    Thank you

For the toolbar problem delete the com.apple.Safari plist from Home/Library/preferences. To have a link open in a new tab you must command-click on the link and have the appropriate box checked in Safari>Preferences>Tabs.

  • Certain Menu Settings Are Not Saved in Library

I need some help with some aspects of menu saving in Encore CS5. At this point, I can create menus using both Encore and Photo Shop. I defined the Button Routing (unchecked the Automatically Route Buttons selection on the Properties > Basic Tab). I defined the Menu Color Set (by selecting Menu Default in the Color Set roll down menu). Also, in the Library, I created a new Menu Set, and I saved these new menus (as File and as Template and as Self Contained Template) there. I am planning to use these menus in 38 family movies.
Here is my problem: when I import these menus from the Encore Library to the project, they appear with "Automatically Route Buttons", and with "Color Set: Automatic" settings. I have to define the button routing from scratch, and even if I change the color settings from Automatic to Menu Default, the Menu Default Color Set setting is not the one that I set for these menus before I exported them to the Library.
So far, my only solution is to create a “skeleton” project with a main Menu and a Sub menu and use it as a starting point to build each of the 38 movies. The menus in this skeleton project – of course – keep their settings. (My problem with this method is that I have already 22 quasi-finished movies where I just like to replace the menus with these new menus and not going through the Menu Color Setting and re-routing every time, or to start building the project again from scratch.)
There might be a very simple trick to solve this problem - or not! . If there is, then I would greatly appreciate learn it.
    Thank you very much,
    Laci

Sorry! I found an answer to one of my questions: I can save the Menu Color Setting in a file. However, I still don't know how to save the routing. Thanks for any help, as always...

Don't worry about the time, as it took us a while to get it done. I learned a few things along the way, about Button Layer Set order, and what happens, once the Menu has been Imported.
Most of it will not apply to your original questions, at least not as I read them, but might prove useful in time.
    Good luck, and happy reading...

  • Lion not saving preferences

I just switched to a new retina macbook, with os 10.7. I'm having trouble with Linotype Font Explorer X not retaining its settings - previously, you could turn a font on & it would stay on. Although sometimes it does retain some of the font settings, but not all.
I've also noticed other programs occasionally not saving preferences.
Is this a known issue with Lion?

Make sure the systemprefs plist file is not locked. If it is, unlock it. If it isn't, delete it then restart.
    To find the file
    1. Make Finder active. Choose 'Go' from the menu bar, hold down the option key.
    2. Choose Library (you must have the 'option' key held down).
    3. Go to Preferences > com.apple.systemprefereces.plist
    4. Right-click (or hit 'cmd-i' on the keyboard) and choose 'Get Info'. If the 'Locked' option is ticked, untick it. Then Restart. If the 'Locked' option is not ticked, close the dialogue, remove the file to trash. Restart.
    5. What happens now is that system will restart at default system prefs. However, it should now save your new settings. To test it, just set one of the setting that you know didn't 'stick before', then restart and see if all is good.

  • Bridge not saving settings.

I am using Bridge with CS4 and have the following minor but irritating problem.
Bridge does not save the current settings such as last folder used or screen view settings when the computer system is shut down.
These setting are saved during periods of opening and closing bridge while the computer remains powered up but are not saved (presumably to the registry) when the computer is powered down.
I am using Windows XP / service pack 3
I presume that there is an entry in the system registry that needs editing. I would appreciate if anyone with knowledge of a solution for this problem would assist me.
    TIA
    Roy Berger

Thank you for the information, it is most helpful.
Of course you are correct about me having bridge set to "autoload on
startup". It will look into closing Bridge before shutting down.
    Appreciate the prompt reply,

  • ITunes not saving settings

Every time I start iTunes after a reboot, the "first-time" wizard pops up, and my settings are not saved. I have tried to unset the Application Data folder from Read-Only, and I have tried deleting both of the .prefs files. This seems to happen every time I install a new program or modify the registry in any way. How can I fix this problem?

    Any help?

  • Windows 8 not saving settings

I have a problem with Windows 8 Pro.
Basically, it doesn't save profile settings, for example, created docs, desktop personalisation, log on window personalisation, etc.
So every time I log off or shut down the computer, all settings are reverted to default, like a fresh install.
Even the setting of Other Software's are also not saving, for example, when i change settings of media player's and restart my pc its reverted to default. Even the download history of Internet Download Manager is also reverted back when i shutdown.
Thanks for your help in advance!

I suspect you installed any third party software which restores the previous state. Please check that.
If the computer is in domain environment, please contact IT stuff if there is any group policy to perform the restore.

  • Battery not saving settings in Logic

Anyone else having trouble saving settings in Battery?
Here's an example of the problem:
    1. Open Session1 in Logic (X or 9), open an instance of Battery, open a kit (e.g. 909 Detailed Kit), save, close.
    2. Open Session2 in Logic (X or 9), open an instance of Battery, open a kit (e.g. Reggaetoni Kit), save, close.
    3. Open Session1 again, Battery reverts to Reggaetoni kit (from the last open session, instead of the current session).
Am I missing something obvious? Could this be a Battery bug? I have searched the interwebs for some info on this, and I seem to be the only one with this issue.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks!

Omnisphere is not compatible with Logic's Preset Settings feature. (Both in L8 and L9). The last Omnisohere update fixed a few bugs but not all. For one thing, when you save a patch, Omnisphere will automatically turn on Stack mode, which could completely change the sound if it had Live mode on.
There was a response from some Spectrasonics guy here on the forum who promised a fix, but given the track record of Spectrasonics lately, I wouldn't get my hopes up to high:
    * Atmosphere/Trilogy Wrapper disaster (aka unusable)
    * Omnisphere compatibility issues with Logic
    * Strange Delay of Trillion (death of the shipping person two weeks before the release date causes a 4 month delay???)
Too bad that they still produce the best sounding plugins on the market so it is hard to avoid them.

You can also hack Auzentech drivers and Install theirs consoles it can resolve this issue but you must do this at your own as nobody can support you with info how to do this nor will I.Message Edited by Art385 on 08-06-2008 04:24 PM

  • IPhoto '11 Saved Slideshow not saving settings for individual slides

Please, need help in iPhoto '11 with Saved Slideshows. I will try rephrasing my question as I received no answers when I posted yesterday. I create my Saved Slideshow by choosing File>New>Slideshow. It then shows up at the bottom of my Source List under Slideshows. I am trying to have individual settings for each slide: timing, transition, and Ken Burns effect. I check each box in the "This Slide" menu and type in what I want. When I exit the Saved Slideshow the first two settings are saved and as I left them, but the KB box is no longer checked. It works fine when I click "Preview." I have carefully read all the forum discussions dating back to last fall and see that I am not the only one with the problem. Like others I noticed that the KB effect won't "stick" only on certain slides, mostly Landscape images. KB settings for Portrait images seem to "hold." I'm not a novice in creating Saved Slideshows. I've done this in iPhoto '08 with no problem at all. I reported this to Apple as a possible bug. I feel like there is now no way I can make the slideshow I want to burn to a DVD to share with family and view on a TV. As far as I can tell you can't do KB effects for individual slides in the latest version of iDVD without having made a Saved Slideshow in iPhoto first. Can anyone help me? I am so frustrated.

I am 99% sure that this has something to do with how NEF files work. If I understand them correctly, the original raw data is stored in one portion of the file and then versions of the file are stored within it (these are the 'versions' that you can make in NX2).  The versions are just whatever mathematical transformations are applied to the raw data to get the version of the image that you want to see.  It is a brilliant way to store information and many versions of photos (different sizes of crops, b/w, colour, sepia, etc...) in their highest possible resolution without taking up an inordinate amount of disk space.  The raw data are huge, but each version only adds a tiny bit to the size.
The problem with iPhoto is that it can only see the raw data - not the metadata containing all of the transformations to get the edited version of the photo. This means that if you load the photos  into the iphoto library as nef files and then edit them with an external editor (i.e. NX2), the files will be edited, and when you open them again in NX2 from iPhoto, then you'll see the edits, but the edited version will not be visible in iPhoto. If you work with NX2 and iPhoto (as I do), you basically need to save your edited versions of files as .jpg or .tiff and then re-import them into iPhoto.  It is a bit of a pain, but I am sure that it could be fixed in a future version of iPhoto.
    Cheers.

  • Lion not saving system preferences on restart

I'm using Lion on a new Macbook Air where it came pre-installed.  I just updated to 10.7.2 and Lion is no longer saving my mouse and keyboard settings.
I have "Scroll direction: natural" unchecked but when I restart my Mac natural scrolling is enabled.  When I open up Trackpad settings the setting is unchecked by I have to re-check and then uncheck this setting to turn off natural scrolling.
I have custom modifier key settings (General Settings -> Keyboard -> Modifier Keys) where I swap Command and Control.  My modifier key settings are now getting reset to the default every time I restart my computer.
Any ideas on how to fix this?  I've tried calling Apple Support but they are no help.

Make sure the systemprefs plist file is not locked. If it is, unlock it. If it isn't, delete it then restart.
    To find the file

    Any help much appreciated.

The shutdown issue might be because you're using `startx` instead of `exec startx`, ck-list-sessions will probably show that you aren't authorized as a local user right now.
The GNOME settings issue could be because you ran stuff with sudo and root owns config files (so gnome can't write to them). You can can fix that with a quick `chown -R`, but there are other reasons it could be happening so imo you are better off just removing or moving the current .gnome2 and .gconf dirs and seeing if the problem persists with a fresh start.

  • Image processor not saving settings for images to process

    Hello,
I have raw images taken by a Canon G9.  I am trying to convert these .CR2 images to LZW tiff's.  This is my process:
In Bridge, select images to process
Click tools > photoshop > image processor
Image processor window comes up.  I have the following settings:
-Open first image to apply settings
         -Save in same location
         -Save as TIFF
              -LZW
-Include ICC profile (no idea what this is, but it's checked)
    Click 'run'
    First image appears.
Apply settings by clicking the pre-sets button and selecting my preset
    Image looks great
    Click 'Done'
    Images process
At the end of the process, I get a message that says Sorry, I could not process the following files: (c:\temp\IMG-9678.CR2.  Which is the first image in my process where I applied my preset for the remaining images.
The remaining images are in my TIFF folder as tiff images, but none of my preset settings from the first image carried over.
    Am I missing a step?
Thanks in advance for any help.  I'm lost.

I guess that could mean that Adobe Camera Raw isn’t part of Photoshop’s Document Object Model.
But I suppose in such a case it should be possible to open all the images in ACR and apply the settings to all of them in one step with the Synchronize-button and then use a Script to save all open files.
Admittedly that would be less convenient than Your proposed way, but maybe someone else has a better idea.
»-Include ICC profile (no idea what this is, but it's checked)«
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but You should read up on color-management.
Not including the profile can generally be considered unprofessional (except maybe in an internet-specific context) and a potential source of problems.
An images’ pixels’ RGB-values can be correctly translated to the originally intended color only when the »key« (the icc-profile) for said translation is known.

  • Iphoto not saving updated library

I've been trying to add my latest photos into iphoto and it copies them all across ok, shows them all in the library and I can rotate them or add titles etc but when I quit iphoto and then reopen it, the library goes back to how it was before and all the latest photos I've just added have disappeared. I've tried it several times but the new photos always disappear. When I first tried to add the photos, iphoto did unexpectedly quit so I don't know whether that's what's causing the problem but I've tried restarting, downloading the latest update and also trashing the plist so that it rebuilds the prefs and even rebuilding the OS 9 desktop just in case that would help but it's still happening. Any ideas? Thanks

    Sarah,
    Just a question.
Are these images imported into iPhoto directly from your digital camera?
Is the date set correctly on the digital camera?
Are these images imported from a folder on a hard drive?
Were these images taken recently or were they taken a long while ago?
Do you have the Library view set to "view by film roll"
Basically why I am asking this is because if you view by date and film roll, if the images were taken a while ago, or if the camera has the wrong date, you are not going to see them at the top of the library.
They will be placed in a roll in the library according to the date they were taken.
You should however be able to view the last roll of import by highlighting "last roll" in the source column.
other than that, do what Sam says
