Lion OS & Office for Mac

I have Office 2004 which is based on Rosetta and not compatible with Lion.
I use it for Word. ( I get emails in that format and respond with a Word format. )
I believe the Lion OS is compatible with Office 2008 and 2011.
Should I buy the Home Office version, since I only use Office for Word? 2008 or 2011?

You might find the new tool ribbon a bit odd at first, but once you get used to it, it is much faster and efficient than the old interface.

  • Outlook (office for Mac 2011) not working with Mountain Lion

Ever since I upgaded to mountain lion outlook (office for Mac 2011) takes 2 minutes to start up. Apple support tells me that MSFT has not done its work. SO I don't recommend anybody who is using outlook to upgrade.

This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office in any way. I suggest you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

  • Hyperlinks from Office for Mac don't work after I installed OS Mountain Lion

I installed OS Mountain Lion a week ago. Since then hyperlinks have not functioned from e g Word, Excel or Outlook for Mac. I am running MS Office for Mac 2011.
I was earlier using Snow Leopard and did not have any problems with that at all!
Needless to say, this is quite urgent as many emails contain important links, which I am unable to use
    Is this a known bug??

Office 2004 is a PowerPC-only suite and will not run under Mountain Lion. You'll need to upgrade to Office 2008 or Office 2011, or get one of the various programs/suites that can open and save in Office format (Apple's iWork apps, LibreOffice, OpenOffice.org, etc.)
Or you'll have to downgrade back to Mac OS X 10.6.
    Regards.

  • Is anyone else having problems with Office for Mac and Lion?

Since installing Lion 10.7.1 on a macbook pro 2.53 Ghz 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 I have had no end of problems. Both Excel and Word hang, crash and saving an Excel file is a pain. A 12mb spread sheet just took 4 minutes to save! I have MS Office for Mac 2011 version 14.1.3.
Another problem that may not be related to Office is that opening Finder is so slow and most of the time it takes a minute to display folders in Desktop or Documents.
Any suggestions would be welcome .. I regret installing Lion .. I had no problems with Snow Leopard!

  • I upgraded my Mac from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  I did have Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 in my applications and now get a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported."

I just upgraded my MAC from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported.  How can I access all of my save Word documents?  I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004).  If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Office for Mac X compatibility with Lion

    Hi guys,
My company is equipped with Office for Mac X (came out in 2002, fairly obsolete I know), and we're trying to know whether we'll be able to use the software on the new OS Lion (until now, we've been able to use it no matter what new OS we have been using)
    Any clues?
    Thanks

Ask Mircosoft seeing as how they are the ones that produce it?
IMHO the chances are probably slim at best.
I always love companies that are so cheap as to not upgrade their software until forced to do it. Then they whine and moan about the expense and difficulty to do it a decade ot so to late.

  • Does Lion work with Office for Mac?

Does Lion work ok with Office for Mac? I have the latest version of Office for Mac, but it is the cornerstone of my working life and I would hate to upgrade and find that it doesn't work.

Yes, Office 2011 works perfectly on Lion.  Only versions 2004 and older have a problem as Rosetta is no longer supported.
    I hope this helps.

Does the Mountain Lion operating system run programs in the Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 software suite?

No, Snow Leopard (10.6) is the last version of OS X that supports Office 2004. You can upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011, or use a free office suite such as LibreOffice.

  • Office for Mac issues with Lion

Both my wife and I use Excel and Word for work.......would you recommend, then that the upgrade would make sense, as our version is pretty old, anyway?
If you don't use Outlook then you could use one of the freebies, Open Office or Libre Office are often recommended, but they are not 100% compatible with MS Office, there will be minor formatting changes, and if you use VBA or Excel macros to help in your work you will have to do without them.
Buy Office 2011 Home & Student for Mac (no Outlook) should be around $100, if you and your wife have individual computers you will need 2 copies.

  • I am running 10.6.8 on an iMac7,1 with 2.4GHz, 4Gb RAM.  Other than usual Apple apps, I also run Microsoft Office for Mac.  Am i better off upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks rather than trying to go to Yosemite ?  Thanks!

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on an iMac 7,1 system with 2.4GHz processor and 4Gb RAM.   I also use Microsoft Office for Mac.
I am wondering whether i should upgrade to Yosemite or first go to Mountain Lion or Maverics to avoid sluggishness and other potential issues with using Yosemite on this iMac.

i had thought Snow Leopard was no longer supported hence my idea to upgrade.
It isn't being supported any longer.
If you haven't done this you might want to consider doing it for security.

  • Lion compatibility with Micro Soft Office for MAC ?

I loaded Lion but now can't access word, excel etc. Can anyone provide advice I have ten years worth of data I need to look at on a regular basis on office for mac programs.
    Thanks

Office 2008 and 2011 run fine on Lion - but any earlier versions won't.
Apple's iWork will open most MSOffice files and will export to MSOffice (but not always reliably).
With Office 2008, the catch is that even though it will run in Lion, you can't install it in Lion because the installer itself won't run in Lion.
So if you want to get hold of Office 2008, you should do so and install it BEFORE you install Lion. And keep a clone of Snow Leopard somewhere, for that day when you may need to install Office 2008 again....

  • Office for mac lion compatibility

Will office for mac be compatible with "versions", the new feature from os lion?

According to this article, http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/apple-os-x-lion-10-7-review/, "Versions, along with Auto Save, will be a likely favorite for anyone who spends a significant amount of time word processing. Unfortunately, the features are still fairly limited -- they work with Apple programs like TextEdit, Automator, and Preview, but not popular third-party programs like Microsoft Word."
