Lion OS X - Double finger scroll

I just installed Lion OS X and all functions seem to work except for the double finger scroll. Does anyone know how to fix it! Thanks!

I did exactly that Neil.   I guess my MacBook Pro is too old to support the native smooth scrolling capabilities of OS X Lion.  For instance, here's what I see in my "Trackpad" system preferences panel:
Probably quite different from what everyone else has.  Anyway, I'll continue to fiddle with it, but methinks I'll need to install a Smart Scroll-like add-on to get that functionality again.

  • Dead Keys and bad Double Finger Scroll

    Hi there,
thought I would post before calling Apple, btw not good for me since in a very remote location... anyway, new MacBook Pro (core 2 duo), the "n" "h" "z" "6" and num lock keys do not respond, tried booting from another drive and all sorts of tricks in Sys Prefs to no avail. Another really annoying thing is the TrackPad's scroll which is very unresponsive, also tried everything in Sys Prefs like "Ignore accidental...". I know how a working track-pad double finger scroll should work since I had a Core Duo.
Well, anyone had the same type of issues?
    Cheers,
    Michael

    Michael,
It is quite possible that you either have a defective keyboard or a bad connection from your keyboard to your logic board.
If you were local to an apple store, and they had a Topcase Assembly, this is a repair that could take under an hour if they were kind enough to take you immediately.
If not, you will be forced to send out your computer, and most likely be without it for anywhere between 3 to 5 business days, mostly due to transport times.
Regardless, it should be a quick, easy fix - though longer if you do not live close to an apple store.
If you have a remotely local apple store it would be beneficial to call them to ask:
    1. If they do in store repairs
    2. If they have a "topcase" in stock.

  • Synaptics Touchpad, double finger scroll and tap-to-click

I've recently lost tap-to-click functionality on my synaptics touchpad, I have no idea why because I haven't changed anything recently.
    Here's my related xorg.conf file:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "SynapticsTouchpad"
    Driver "synaptics"
Option "AlwaysCore" "true" # send events to CorePointer
    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "SHMConfig" "false" # configurable at runtime? security risk
Option "MaxTapTime" "180" # max time in ms for detecting tap
Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "true" # vertical scroll anywhere with two fingers
Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "true" # horizontal scroll anywhere with two fingers

I'm not sure if I have hotplugging installed so I copied my 11-x11-synaptics.fdi file anyway and edited it:

I have the same problem, my workaround is setting the options with synclient executed automatically on login.
Im quite annoyed though that gnome just overrides settings done in xorg and hal policies, can anyone tell where to look for gnomes information storage?

  • Installed Lion but can't get multi-finger scrolling to work.

I have a MacBook Pro 17 ( two years old maybe) and just upgraded to Lion. I can do the pinching part of the new trackpad Lion coolness but not the scrolling. Which is annoying since the old scroll bars on windows are gone. I have them all selected to be ON in system prefs. Can anyone offer some help here? Do these features not work on macs that aren't new with a builtin new magic pad?

Normal up and down scrolling from the track pad should work. There is nothing new here except for the scrolling direction. Two finger up/down scrolling has always been the norm on trackpads.
If you go to System Preferences->Track Pad; Scroll & Zoom how is scroll direction set?
As for the scroll bars They are set in System Preferences->General. The choices are always show the scrol bars, when scrolling or based in the input device. Have you selected Always?

  • I loaded OS X Lion , changed 2 finger scrolling, i want to revert scrolling back to scrolling down is movement towards me, not moving my 2 fingers away from me, I did this by accident , how do i change this 2 finger scroll movement back to original

I loaded OS X Lion ,  I changed the 2 finger scrolling once OS X Lion was loaded to the movement of moving your 2 fingers towards the screen to move screen down  , i want to revert the moving of my screen moving down by scrolling down as the movement towards me , as original when I first received my MAC, not moving my 2 fingers towards the screen , I did this by accident , how do i change this 2 finger scroll movement back to original
in other words - scroll towards me moves screen down
scroll away from me or towards screen moves screen up. this is what I want
    now its the opposite
scroll towards me screen screen moves up
scroll towards screen makes screen gone down
how do I fix this mistake i did when I loaded OS X Lion, it asked me to move my 2 fingers on mouse pad, I just moved it towards the screen not knowing this was going to change the scrolling to the opposite of how it scrolled when I first got my MAC, please help I prefer the original 2 finger scroll being towards me is screen moving down, HELP

  • How can I enable one finger scrolling in Lion ?

I have looked everywhere to try and find a way to set up "scroll zones." Where you touch with one finger on the vertical or horizontal edges of the trackpad to scroll. All my serches result in "scrolling reversed in OSX Lion" and I have found it impossible to wade through them, I have this amazingley huge trackpad and I can't use it like I'm used to. Please help.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do enjoy the two finger scrolling. However using it exclusively cramps my fingers and I would image it cramps other peoples fingures as well, I'm not looking to replace the two fingure scrolling. I am looking to suppliment it with scrolling zones though, I have this enourmous trackpad (the best in the mobile computing world) that would be absoutely ideal for use with scrolling zones. I have been researching quite a bit and can't find a solution. Hoping I can find a solution here. I would love to be able to slide one finger sideways along the top and bottom to scroll to the side, and slide one finger up and down along the left and right edges to scroll up and down. I really hope I can find a solution. Please somebody....let me know if theres a program/plugin that can do this????

  • Two finger scrolling doesn't work after switching to lion

I recently upgraded my 2011 macbook pro to lion.  All trackpad functions seem to work except two finger scrolling, which worked fine before the upgrade.  I found the discussion forum that I've pasted below on how to fix this problem.  Being something of a luddite, I don't know how to either check or change the settings in the users global preferences.  Some instruction or other thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I miss two-finger scrolling!
    Thanks!
The correct value in the users global preferences file for com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior is 2 to enable scrolling.
To set it correctly open a terminal window and type the following:
    defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior 2
You will have to log out and back to see the setting change. Worked for me.
you can check your current setting by typing:
    defaults read -g com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior

It'd be much easier to go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > Trackpad options... button > check Scrolling.

  • [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Hi everyone, i updated my system yesterday to the new xorg server (1.11.1-2). Everything works except for the two finger scrolling on my synaptics touchpad.
    There is some info:
    Kernel:  3.0.6-2 (stock)
    Synaptics Touchpad driver: 1.5.0-1 (lastest)
Right side scrolling works fine, two or three finger tapping doesn't work either.

  • Windows 7: No two finger scrolling

Fresh install of Windows 7 on a boot camp partition.  Installed the drivers off of a snow leopard cd.
Right click works, two finger scrolling doesn't.
In device manager, the "Apple Trackpad" driver is dated 3/09.
    Any ideas?

The Windows Support software is installed from within Windows not while making a bootable usb. You start Windows and the Windows Support software should start automatically from the usb and be installed. If for some reason it does not install, from Windows navigate to the Windows Support software and double click the setup.exe file.

  • MacBook Pro (2010) Trackpad 2 finger scroll gesture

I upgraded to OS Lion and I cannot get the scroll direction: natural two finger scroll to work.  I have tried playing around with the trackpad in system preferences to no avail.  Any ideas from anyone?  I saw something about Terminal in another thread but I don't understand.  It is a nice feature which used to work when I initially installed OS Lion but it appears to have flaked out on me down the line.
    Thanks in advance.

Check in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > trackpad options.. button > Check Scrolling. (with or without inertia).

  • Can I get three finger scroll to navigate back and forward pages in firefox like in OS X Snow Leopard?

My only complaint so far about Lion.  It's like I have a new toy to play with, I'm just frustrated that the previous three finger scroll options are seemingly unavailable.
    Please help,
    Chandler

found a solution ... working right now on my MacBook with OS X 10.6 and Firefox 3.6. Check out [http://christian.project-groove.com/downloadcomment4ff.htm http://christian.project-groove.com/downloadcomment4ff.htm]

  • Why can't I finger scroll on my 17" MacBook Pro, 3.1?

I have a 17" MacBook Pro, Model 3.1 and since I have installed Lion, I can no longer finger scroll.  I am able to scroll using the scroll bar, but not the fingers.
Are the older computers not able to accommodate the all the new finger scrolling advances?

Older laptops do not support the newer gestures; my Macbook is an early 2009 and does not. Your model is from late 2007/early 2008 - I would say gestures are not supported. Not sure where the cutoff was - I think it was late 2009 models.

  • Did software updates and lost two finger scroll

I had Lion on a partioned drive. After getting updates for Adobe, I updated to lion the whole drive. When I updated I lost two finger scrolling system wide.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Don't know why it would reset, but scrolling is controlled in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > Trackpad options.. button > check Scrolling.

  • Does the 2 finger scrolling work or anyone?

First of all, let me just say that I really like my new macbook. At first, I was nothing but sorry that I no longer had my powerpc based powerbook. Actually, I still have it. After a week to adjust, I really like this machine, and Leopard (though I disliked it too, at first). Did you know that if your machine powers down cause it runs out of juice, when you start it back up it starts with the same screen and open programs as when it shut off?!!! One thing that does bother me is that the two finger functions are laughable at best. Also, it seems like I have to drag my finger the length of the trackpad in order to wake the pointer up after filling in information in a field like the one I'm typing in now. I won't take this laptop back and go through the hassle of moving my information for something as trivial as this, I was just wondering if there is a "break-in period" for the trackpads. Just need a little intel-based hug...

2-finger scrolling (and 2-finger tap right-click) work perfectly for me. In System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad, be sure to check Use 2 fingers to scroll. I also have Allow horizontal scrolling, Clicking, Tap trackpad using 2 fingers for secondary click, and Ignore accidental trackpad input checked. My scrolling speed is just a little toward the fast side, as is tracking speed. Double click speed is at the fast limit.
Try those settings and see if things improve for you. Good luck! It really should work without problems like the ones you describe.

  • Two finger scroll reversed

When I upgraded to Lion, the two finger scroll feature is now backwards.  Up is down and down is up...How do I change it back to the way I am used to?

Best to check through the usual system Preferences. There's is an option to change it back although it will only take a day to get used to it.
