Lion OS x network/printer connection problem.

I am trying to connect a Macbook Pro, Lion OS x to a Canon MP530 printer on a wireless network. I already have another Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard OS x) set up to this wireless printer/network, and it works just fine. When I try to connect the Macbook Lion OS x, I get error messages stating "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time." I thought it was a printer driver problem, so I downloaded the correct updated driver for the Canon MP530 from both the Apple and Canon websites to the Macbook Lion OS x. When I try to setup the Macbook Lion OS x on the printer/network again, the Macbook Lion OS x acts like it doesn't see it the updated driver when it gives the message stated above about "an error occurred........"
On the bright side, I am able to connect the Macbook Lion OS x to the wireless printer network via the Snow Leopard OS x by print file sharing just fine. The problem with this is that the Snow Leopard OS x Macbook has to be on. If this computer is not on, than the Lion Macbook will not be able to print.
Connecting the Macbook Lion OS x directly to the printer also works.
The Macbook Lion OS x on the network does not appear to "see" the updated Canon MP530 drivers. For some reason, the Macbook Lion will not communicate with the network printer, without going through the other laptop.  Is the Canon MP530 compatible with the Lion OS x operating system on a wireless network at all?
Is there a way to connect the Macbook Lion OS x to my network directly without having to go through the Snow Leopard OS x Macbook?
Resetting the printing system doesn't work either.

Understood. But I meant are you still able to install this Canon driver. With you trashing the BJPrinters folder previously, there should have been no Canon driver files on this Mac. And given that you have had no luck installing the Gutenprint driver I was wondering if you also had the same problem with installing the Canon driver. I am guessing that you were at least able to install the Canon driver, even though it won't let you print.
So with you not able to install the Gutenprint driver suite I would say that you have the following options.
1. Continue printing via the Snow Leopard share. Not ideal but the cheapest solution at this stage.
2. Download and install PrintFab (www.printfab.net). This also supports Canon printers but it costs 49 euro. But there is a 30 day trial so you could see if this will install and let you add the networked printer.
3. Replace the 3rd party print server with an Airport Express. The Airport USB port will allow you to use the Canon supplied driver.
4. Replace the MP530 with a new printer that has built-in wireless.

  • Having network printer connection problems using a Macbook Pro

I hope a "greater mind" can suggest a solution to the following problem:
Up until 2 days ago, I was successfully connected to the network printer at my office using both my Macbook Pro at work and at home (both wirelessly, OS 10.6.8). From yesterday, however, I now only receive the following message when I send a file for printing: "network host (and then its IP address) is busy. Will try again in 10 seconds."
All right, my system admin. advised me to re-install the printer on both computers.  I did. In printer set-up, 1) Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD; 2) Address: the IP address of the printer; 3) Queue: secinmac. This is the queue name specifically for Mac use and given to us by the company who installed our network printer; 4) Name: we use the printer's IP address; 5) Location: left blank; 6) Print Using: Generic PCL Laser Printer. Further for 6), in the "installable options" dialog box, I click "Duplexer". Then, finally, I click "ADD". The printer is added.
However, when I try to print a file, I continue to get the "busy" message.  The file spools for about 3%, and then the "busy message" appears, and I cannot print.  You can imagine how frustrating this is when the problem has arisen from one day to the next!  A colleague who also uses a MacBook Pro sent a file to print on the network printer today, and he had no problems!  I, however, have no success !
Any ideas that can help me?  Thanks, in advance!

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Yes, I tried this when I was reading a bit of Apple communities history on this matter, and it did not work.  I also tried this, and then rebooted my Mac, but to no avail!  While I was at the office today, my system admin also logged into our network and tried to get something to print on his Mac, but he now has the same problem as I do.
He gets the "busy message", too !
I'll try to see if I can get a solution from APPLE by going through my support service agreement.....From reading the history on this issue, I would have thought that APPLE would have worked on this to come up with a fix by now...!
Thank you again for your suggestion!  Cheers.

  • HT4356 Can I use a 'pc' network printer connected via ethernet to the home wifi network ?

Can I use a 'pc' network printer connected via ethernet to the home wifi network ?
or must the printer I want to use also have a wifi connection ?
I have a home network using ethernet connected devices to a router, also attached to th erouter is a WiFi unit. We are using the WiFi unit to connect to the network and hence to the big wide WWW.  We now want to print from our IPads pereferable to our netowk connected HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a series. (not the wireless model).
I was using the HP ePrint app to print from the Ipad, but I do not fully understand how this works. It seems that you must use the app to do the printing which is fine for basic email and photos, but I can not access the drawing package I have, and want to print from it. Please what is it that I do not understand.

You must use an airprint printer directly connected to wifi through it's own wifi card.

  • HP Laserjet 4250 Network Printer Connection Issues

    Hello
We have a HP 4250 Laserjet network printer set up as a shared printer on our Windows Server 2003 32-bit print server.
We are using the latest PCL 5e 32-bit drivers and have now added the PCL 5e 64-bit drivers to accomodate a new Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Laptop. However, although it appears to pull the driver across properly, it fails to communicate and complete the installation with the following error:
"Printer Cannot Connect Operation Failed' error 0000007e
I have apoplied the hotfix addressed which addresses a similar problem but this made no difference.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981070/en-gb
Any ideas what I could try next?
    Kind Regards

  • Windows 7 won't print pdf to network printer connected to Mac

    Hi,
I have a printer connected to my Mac and have shared the printer on my home network.  I can print documents from a Windows 7 computer on my network but when I try to print a pdf from adobe reader it will not print, or ever go to the print queue.
    Any help appreciated.

Thanks Michael, have tried that, no luck. I will wait a couple of days to see if any other solutions come up (or if anyone else is suddenly having the same issue) before reinstalling Acrobat.
[OK just tried sending a PDF attachment directly from another program (MYOB) through to Mac Mail and had the same problem so it is not an Acrobat issue afterall, it is a Mac Mail or Mac OS X issue. Will post this on the Apple site.]
I have resolved the MYOB issue, it was working just painfully slow. So I still have the original Acrobat Pro PDF to Mac Mail issue if anyone knows of any solutions please?

  • Airport express and network printer setup problem

I could not find and add my network printer in my work place only when network is connected via my airport express. I can see the printer when the network is connected by ethernet cable. Note: the printer I mentioned is not connected to the USB of the AE, it is a separate network printer with a true IP.
Is this a firewall problem in the airport express unit? I have the same problem with my ThinkPad too.

Have you tried putting the printer's IP address into the "add a printer" dialog box IP view of the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences?
It sounds like your AirPort Express is creating another subnet that is making it hard to access the printers subnet. You might try putting the AirPort Express into "bridge" mode.

  • How to install driver on a 64 bit system to access a networked printer connected to a 32 bit pc?

Did a clean install of 64 bit Windows 7 and tried to connect to Deskjet printer connected to a 32 bit Windows 7 system on home network. Said to install from Windows installation DVD but no such animal on DVD. HP error only talked about USB connection and said nothing about network. Hookup worked fine when everything was 32 bit.
    This question was solved.

Sorry, that wasn't clear at all. I would use the 64 bit machine to go on the internet and download the latest 64 bit driver for the printer. Just run the setup on the 64 bit machine and I believe it will give you the option to search for a shared printer.  You must use the 64 bit version of the printer driver on the 64 bit machine.  The driver is just telling the 64 bit machine how to communicate with the printer no matter where it is.

  • HP Deskjet 460 wireless printer connection problem

I just replaced my Airport Extreme (pre-n) with a Time Capsule. My HP Deskjet 460 WiFi printer no longer connects through wireless. However, configuring the Time Capsule wireless mode to "802.11g/b only" (i.e. no 802.11n) resolves the connection problem.
Any suggestion on how to get the printer to connect with 802.11n enabled?
    Thanks in advance,
    - gael

I also have an HP 460wbt and have similarly replaced my old airport base station with the TC. Without any wireless security the printer connected fine - but couldn't get connection using WPA or WEP. I've tried every combination I can - but have gone back to reconnecting the airport base station alongside the TC with bridging to the ADSL netgear modem I use. This seems a bit like overkill but I just can't get the WPA on the printer to work with the WPA personal options of the TC. Have you any ideas on this one?

You are using the OS X Generic driver.
Change the driver to the correct Epson driver.
If you can't find the Epson driver, it may work with a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.

  • Printer connecting problem

I bought an Epson All in One Photo RX680 and loade in everyting and when I try to print printer connecting bar just keeps going and will not ever connect. I am hooked up the airport extreme and I think for some reason my printer is not able to connect USB port.

Sorry, I assumed you were trying to connect the printer via Airport for wireless printing. So, you have the printer connected to the USB port on your Mac. When you hit command-P it should bring up the printing pane, with a 'Printers' drop-down menu at the top: what choices are you offered when you click on this?

  • Kodak 6150 printer connection problem with iMac 10.64

I finally got tired of the HP printer eating me alive with ink costs. I purchased a Kodak 6150 printer. Surprised to find out I had to install drivers but that is done.
Here is the problem. If I connect the printer directly via USB to the iMac it works fine. If I connect it to my airport extreme I can print from my Macbook but NOT from the iMac.
Was running a trial version of Intego just to see if possible virus was reason for almost incessent presence of the rainbow wheel - no virus. I turned off the Intego and still no luck being able to print from the iMac.
Per the previous question I did double check and sharing for all is on. The little screen on the printer says it is connected to my network. The printer is about 2 feet from the iMac and the airport is halfway between them so no walls etc in the way.
    Any idea's?
    Thanks

    1. When printers are setup they JOIN a network, and they remember the network name and wireless password. Since that has been changed, you have to REJOIN the printer to your new network of your AirPort Express. Basically, the printer has to be reconfigured. You can always contact your printer manufacturer for assistance.
    2. Navigate to the , then System Preferences, then Network. Click on the Advanced button on the bottom right, you should see a box with Preferred Networks. Remove the unwanted networks (such as your neighbors network).

  • Network Printer connection between W2000 and Win 7 machine?

I have a HP 990CXI on a Win 2000 machine and I am trying to network connect to this printer from a win 7 machine but it cannot find a driver.  The HP site says that Win 7 should have an in-OS driver.  It seems that one is pointing the finger to the other!?

    Hi steve_podleski,
Your Deskjet 990c does have a built in driver in Windows 7.  The main challenge is getting Windows 2000 and Win7 to share resources.  I have steps written for Windows XP and Win7 but I don't know if they would work for Windows 2000.
Here is an excerpt from the document:
Step three: Setup a share account on each computer in the network
Create a common share account on each of the computers, including the computer that is sharing the printer to the rest of the network.  This share account must have the same name and password on each computer.
If you decide to use an existing account that appears on each computer all ready, this existing account must be password protected. If you do not want to password protect your default login, create a new share login as described in the following steps.
    Windows XP
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. Click User Accounts
    4. Click Create a new account.
    5. Enter the same user account name created as the share account on the Windows 7 computer.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Under “Pick an account type”, select ‘Computer Administrator’.
Note: In Windows XP you must select Computer Administrator in order setup a printer.
    8. After you new account is created, select it under ‘pick an account to change’.
    9. Click Create a password
    10. Enter the same password used when creating the share account on the Windows 7 computer, following the directions on the screen.
    11. Click Create Password button.
    12. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
    13. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.
    Windows 7
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. In the upper right corner ensure that View by has Large icons or Small icons selected.
    4. Click User Accounts
    5. Click Manage another account
    6. Click Create a new account
    7. Select Standard User
Note:  The account created should be created with the lowest security setting necessary.  Creating the share account as an administrator is discouraged.
    8. Enter a new user account name.  Use a name that is easy to remember as the account used for sharing resources across your network.  For example: ‘ShareAccount’
    9. After your new account is created, select it under “Choose the account you would like to change”.
    10. Click Create a Password
    11. Enter a new password, following the directions on the screen.
    12. Click Create Password button.
    13. Close any remaining opened windows, making a note of the new account name and password as you will need to create identical accounts and passwords on the other computers on your network.
    14. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
    15. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.

  • CP1025nw losing network print connection in Windows 8

In windows 8 with the latest drivers and firmware installed, the printer will setup and print just fine once. Then will just hang each print job in the queue each time after. If I turn off the printer and turn it back on, it works again. I've tried connecting a network cable and setting it up wirelessly with the same response.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. Printing via cell phone or ipad works seamlessly. This printer worked fine using ePrint before installing the recently released win8 drivers. Please fix drivers ASAP!

Similar problem, maybe this info will overlap/help
I have a new HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus installed on two fairly new Windows 8 laptops wirelessly.
Similar symptoms on both (one is a Dell 17R, other is a Toshiba Ultrabook Z930).
Printer works fine, printing submitted jobs.
Then sometime during day it inevitably stops working mysteriously.
When it is in the broken state, I have walked to the printer and confirmed the printer is still connected/has its wireless IP. And the printer works fine printing from my iPhone or iPad.
But on Windows 8 at a command prompt I cannot ping the printer's IP address 192.169.0.11.
If I reboot the Windows 8 pc, or just wait a few hours, the printer comes back online and everything in the printer queue just prints out.
If I browse the internet wirelessly, that works also.
But I cannot seem to find a simple recipe for getting the PC out of the broken state (short of rebooting) or any way of preventing it getting into that state in the first place.
I suspect that the wireless connection is flakey, going down a few times per day. I have confirmed that the ADSL connection drops occasionally by looking at logs. That shouldn't drop the intranet/local wireless connection but maybe it does briefly. Even so, the wireless is set to auto reconnect and usually does. But occasionally I observe the wireless is disconnected and have to click to reconnect... no idea why the auto reconnect doesn't happen.... but in that case, it sometimes (but not always!!) leads to the printer coming online and service resuming.
As an example, a short while ago this happened and the wireless claimed to still be connected but a ping 192.168.0.11 failed. Yet I was able to browse the internet using the same wireless connection. And the printer worked from my iPhone. Then a few minutes later, everything went back to working and now I can also ping the printer. Usually when it goes offline, however, it takes many hours to get service back. Or I can reboot if impatient and that always makes it work. [This applies to both the Dell and the Toshiba].
The oddest part of this is that the iPhone wireless connection to the printer never falters.
Perhaps there is something wrong with the Windows 8 wireless reconnecting infrastructure, because one can't expect the printer driver to make it work when a ping fails. [When the printer is online the ping always works].
So not necessarily pointing at HP printer driver as the problem, but since it's a frustrating printer problem, I'm hopeful someone reading this forum can point me in a useful direction.
