Lion OS X server

Hi,
I have recently had the idea of creating a home server to share my music, videos etc with other members of my family. I have 2011 13" macbook pro running the latest version of lion. I recently downloaded the server application for lion.
we have serveral ios devices ranging from ipods to ipads and countless iphones. my plan is to invest in a 27inch imac and have it running around the clock and using it as both a home computer and also a server. for the time being i would like to set up my macbook and get it up and running and understands the ins and outs before i make such an investment. i would like to access the server when i am both at work and university either by VPN or some other means.
so basically i require help on how to set this all up. Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appricated.
PS i would also like to connect windows PC's to this sever if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance

1. Lion in the server program on how to initialize the settings?
I'm not sure what you mean.  If you want to configure Lion Server, run the Server App in the Applications folder.
2. How to Uninstall a Lion for a server program and settings?
If you did not run the Server app, then you can just delete the Server app.
If you ran the Server app, there is no way to uninstal just the Server part.  Erase your hard drive and reinstall Lion.
If your machine came preinstalled with Lion Server, there is no way to uninstall Lion Server.

  • Adobe flash media encoder compatibility with the lion mac mini server

Can anyone tell me if the adobe flash media encoder is compatible with the lion mac mini server?

I am running adobe live flash encoder on a new mac-mini server with Lion and am able to stream video just fine - however I get a hum in the audio. I am not sure whether the hum is caused by the audio input, the camcorder, the adobe encoder, or the combination, but it seems to be the camcorder's fault.

    Hi all,
Can anyone shed some light on what kind of upstream bandwidth you'd need to have for a remote Lion Profile Manager server to manage your Macs?  I'm not thinking about accessing home directories over the Internet, just the configuration profiles.

  • Mountain Lion Mac Mini Server Ethernet Port Not Working

I have a Mac Mini Server and once I upgraded to Mountain Lion Server the Ethernet port is unresponsive. It worked before upgrading. Is there something with Mountain Lion Server that is causing the Ethernet port not to work properly?

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • How to view file access log (AFP) on Mac OS X Lion (10.7) server?

I want to track the files beeing uploaded and downloaded or deleted on the shares on the server by different users. There has to be some log where the Mac OS writes an entry for every file access (like upload / download / rename / delete) for each user. How can I access it? How can I filter the actions by user account? Do I have to first activate such a logging or is it activated from the first (standard) setup of the Mac OS X Lion server?

    try:
    sudo serveradmin settings afp:activityLog=yes
then the log entries should be at
    /Library/Logs/AppleFileService/AppleFileServiceAccess.log

  • Mountain Lion - Connect FTP Server

I have never been able to connect Finder to my FTP server since upgrading to Mountain Lion. I can connect with Firezilla, other FTP apps and Console but when attempting to connect in Finder (GO > Connect to Server), the connect attempt window just spins and eventually shakes it's head like a bad password, which works with other FTP apps. How is everyone mounting FTP sites in Finder? Not?

    Hello,
I have yet to setup this up but it does not make any sense to me as to why the admin would have to login to the local computer to get updated. This defeats the whole point in my opinion. You can try giving the network user admin rights of the computer and see if it works.
    1. Login as the network user.
    2. Open System preferences and go to users and groups.
    3. Check the box "Allow user to administer this computer"
You may have to restart and then test it to see.
The only other thing I can think of trying on the local side is joining the computer to server if you already have not done this.
    Thanks,

  • I have problems to connect iCal 6.0 (Mountain Lion) with Exchange Server 2007

I used ICal with Exchange Server 2007 without problems with Lion. After I adopted Mountain it has been impossible to use ICal and I have obliged to use Outlook because It was not possible to connect ICal with Server.
I reinstalled Mountain and rebuilt Outlook data base, canceled cache and so on but without results. How cn I do?

I was having problems with this too. I remember it working okay in iOS 7 and then it breaking in iOS 8.
Fortunately, I'm now on the iOS 8.1 beta, and can confirm it's working fine for me. Just how it used to. - I guess that's one of the bugs that Apple's new software will bust. We'll just have to wait it out.

  • Create a bootable Mountain Lion OS X Server installer ?

With Lion and Lion Server it was possible to create a Lion Server installer just bij adding a ServerVersion.plist file in the folder CoreServices.
Adding that enabled the normally greyed-out 'Customize'-button that installed the Server.app and ServerEssentails.pkg (nevertheless an internet connection was still required).
I don't go in details here too much but is a similar procedure possible for Mountain Lion ? To install OS X Server in one row ?

Not that I am aware of.  If you find a way please disclose.
I fear that this is no longer possible and the reason I say this is that we have already gotten a few BTO mini Servers arriving with Mountain Lion + Server.app installed.  However, if you erase the drive and perform and Internet restore you no longer get Mountain Lion + Server.app installed.  You get Mountain Lion and then need to go to the App Store, associate the device with an Apple ID which grants you access to Server.app for download.

  • Lion on MacMini server fails on mirrored drives

    Hello
last year I bought an MacMini server (10.6). Which I installed with mirrored harddrives (2 partitions, one partition for OS and one for the ServiceData).
    Everything worked fine.
Upgrading to Lion messed up the whole system so i decided to start from scratch.
I formated the mirrored boot volume and inserted a bootable Lion USB stick.
Then I selected the fresh formated volume.
The installation process then copies everything onto the named partition and reboots the machine.
After waiting in front of the machine for 20-30 mins a windows pops up telling me that it cannot install the ecovery partition.
    So my questions are:
    1) Does anyone know how to prevent the attempt to install a recovery partition
    2) Is it possible to install immediatly Lion server insead of making 2 steps ?
    3) Is it possible to have under lion again a seperate ServiceData partition from the beginning instead of having the time consuming task in moving everything by hand after installation ?
    Thx

It was quite a while ago now, so maybe there has since been a software fix to either Windows or BootCamp to fix.

  • Ox s lion mail loses server names

My main boot drive failed this past week-end on my MacPro.
I installed a new boot drive, did a fresh install of Lion, and installed all updates.
When trying to setup my email accounts, after receiving mail once on any of my iCloud accounts, the incoming mail server name gets deleted, and that box does not allow input.  The only way to fix it, is to delete the email account and set it up again.  And then, once I receive email once, the name is deleted again, and thus the cycle continues.
It does not happen for my bellsouth.net accounts - nor gmail.  Only iCloud.  I have also tried with me.com accounts with no luck.
    Any suggestions?
Should I trash everything (email) and start over?   If so, what do I delete, and what do I keep?
    Thanks

If your password does not meet these requirements change it so that it does:
Minimum of 8 characters, including at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter and 1 number, no special characters.
Verify that you are using the correct server credentials:
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 993
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Additional Information
SSL is required for both IMAP and SMTP connection with iCloud. POP is not supported by iCloud.

  • Off-line Lion Software Update Server?

    So here's the scenario
I have a private network that needs Updates and have a Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4 Server running at a spearate location with internet access.
Is there a way to off-load the content that is downloaded the (Software Update Server) and transport it to the private network and distribute?
We do this with a Windows Software update server as well without issue but the Mac method is new to me.
    Thanks

Well. I just checked four of my Software Update Servers..... Lion Server 10.7.4 and they continues to have problems with the "Server Essentials" group of updates - 5 of them with Post Dates of 6/11/2012 and 6/13/2012.
I'm seeing this at four physically and network(ly) seperate sites in the greater Bay Area.
All other updates cleared a few days ago but from my discussion with Apple Enterprise Tech Support.... the engineers just now, they are still "Working on it" thus aware of the issue. Apparently with most engineers at WWDC last week, not a lot got done or is getting done yet this week and so the issue is still "Open" and known at this point

  • Is Lion Server just Lion with added server tools ?

From what I am reading, buying Lion Server is just the same as buying Lion..... except you get some additional tools ?  I have never had the server version of OS X before... but I always thought that installing the Server version (at least prior to Lion) would not always give you the same experience as purchasing the non-server version....
I only own mac laptops right now, but was thinking seriously about using one for a server..... and for $49 I can get it, install it as a server on one, and non-server on the remainder ?

    Correct.

Oh...... so if I read this right.... the total cost for setting up a Lion Server is $29 for Lion + $49 for the server tools.... so $88 total....
I didn't catch on to that prior.....
