Lion Radeon Driver Bug (New System Configs)

I've read lots of posts about graphics problems with older mac configurations... but I'm curious if any users with NEW models have experienced graphics issues.  I'm running a Mac Book Pro 8,3 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB and have run into problems with Rhino 3d for MAC (5.0 beta) and the newly released AutoCad for MAC.  I heard back from the rhino developers that lion beta testers have to turn off OpenGL completely to be able to run their software stably, whereas testers using older versions of OSX have better performance.  As for AutoCad - I can't quite believe its for sale already - however there may be a mac graphics driver problem here as well... it crashes somewhat often during a long pan session and became unstable enough eventually that it refused to launch at all.
I've been a life long Mac user and supporter and its very exciting to have developers like McNeel and Autodesk start to take notice and support the platform, so I hope that apple works hard to get these kinks out!  ...the era of a fully compatible professional computing environment seems like its ALMOST here.

Same issue with my HD6670. I didn't notice until I installed Steam and it was unusable. Since you have a 7000 series card, try this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1250981
EDIT: I just noticed how old this thread was.

  • [Solved] Cannot burn CD's with LG drive on new system

Arch x86_64 (up-to-date) on a Zotac GF-8200-C-E miniITX motherboard, Athlon II X2 240 CPU with an LG SATA GH22NS50 DVD+-RW drive. The drive reads CD's fine, but cannot burn anything successfully. The drive works fine on a WinXP system. I have tried burning as root with bashburn, cdrecord, and xfburn, to no avail. I have also tried changing the SATA section in my BIOS from IDE to AHCI to no avail and have tried various media. The drive has the latest firmware installed. Part of my cdrecord log is below - showing the errors:

  • How to report a bug to kernel about Radeon driver?

    Hi all,
Some other people and I suffer from a Radeon driver bug since kernel v3.14 ( for more detailed information, please go to see this post ). The screen blinks rapidly after loading the radeon driver... It is OK in kernel version 3.13, but it begins to blink in v3.14.
Three months pasts and the bug is still there. Maybe the kernel developers are not aware of the bug. In the kernel version 3.15, the problem still exists, so I plan to report the bug to the Radeon driver developers from the kernel team.
But as a newbee in reporting the bugs to the kernel developers, can someone give me some guide on it? For example, where to submit the bug report and what I should to pay extra attention to when I describe my bug.
           Thank you very much!

    Use bugzilla.

  • I installed Windows 8 on a new drive. How can I move my PhotoShop CS5 software to that new system?

I originally downloaded the CS5 software in September, 2011 and installed it in Windows Vista. I have since installed Windows 8 on a new drive. I am trying to re-install it on that new drive. I deactivated it on the old system. I can't find a way to re-download it from the Adobe site. How can I download CS5 onto my new system?

    Try http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
    Follow the instructions carefully.

  • I did a system upgrade (clean install) to Snow Leopard. I now have lost all of my Firefox bookmarks. Should they be somewhere in my backup files (on an external drive)? How do I locate them? And, how do I restore them to Firefox in the new system?

Where would the Bookmarks be filed in my system backup? Can I move them to the new system (Internal drive)?

    Hi drnels,
Are you saying you still have access to the backup? If you do, you should take a look at [[Backing up your information]]. It will show you where all of your personal information is stored in Firefox and how you can copy it to a new install.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How to copy and replace new Mountain Lion hard drive with old Snow Leopard drive?

So far I have not found an answer to my question, so I am hoping that this is feasible.
A while ago I purchased a used 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard that did not have the installer disc. A week ago the hardware died on me, so I replaced it with a new 2012 Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion.
The problem is that I purchased a 1 TB aftermarket HD for my old Macbook Pro and want to replace the current smaller hard drive in my new computer with it. I've already run Time Machine and put all of my data in my new computer so I figured that it would be possible to simply copy that disk image back over to my old drive and replace it. However the computer showed that they weren't compatible. When I tried to put my old hard drive in my new computer there was not a bootable OSX available.
Since Mountain Lion already came on my new computer I do not have an installer that I can use.
Is there anyway I can copy the current Mountain Lion information from my new hard drive and basically have a fully functioning, bootable copy on my old hard drive that I can put back into my new computer?
    Thank you.

Well, if you put the HDD from the old Mac into an external enclosure you can use a tool like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to clone the Mountain Lion installation onto the 1TB drive.  If you go this route, I would suggest you consider using CCC as it does have the option to clone the Repair Partition as well as the boot volume.
Another route you could take would be to put the 1TB drive into the new MBP, and then boot to the Internet Recover .  From there you can re-partition the drive and install Mountain Lion clean on the 1TB drive.  During the installation process, you will have the option to use the Migration Assistant to migrate your data & apps.  You can use your Time Machine backup for that, or if you have the original drive in an enclosure, you can migrate directly from the external drive.  I have used this latter method myself a few times.

How do I transfer all my Firefox saved passwords to my new hard drive and operating system? Going from xp to windows 7. I have the old hard drive hooked up as drive f. Can I copy and paste from old drive directory to new drive directory?

You need to copy 2 files, key3.db and signons.sqlite, from the old [[profiles|profile folder]] to the profile folder on the new computer.

  • Problems with old(ish) EIDE drive in new Neo4 system

I've been building my new system today, the only components I have retained are the optical and hard drives and the memory. System is as follows
    K8N Neo4 (non SLI edition)
    Athlon 64 3700+
PC3200 Crucial 1Gb (2x512Mb sticks in dual channel)
    BFG 7800GT OC 256Mb
    Creative X-Fi Fatality FPS
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120Gb (EIDE) [ST3120026A]
    Seasonic S12 500W PSU
    XP Pro
The problem I'm having is that while my HDD is detected in BIOS, when I boot from the XP CD, the setup runs it's 'checking hardware configuration' and then dumps me at a black screen. Disconnecting the drive allows me to continue. Here's what I've tried:
    a) Initially I thought I'd [burger] the HDD in the transfer, but I replaced it in my old system and booted from it fine.
    b) I tried changing the IDE controller, but I had the same problem on both. My DVD drive chain works on both controllers.
    c) I tried swapping the jumpers - Master and Cable Select have the same effect.
I can only assume I have something set/not set in the BIOS, but can't for the life of me figure out what. I'm hardly an expert when it comes to internals, and I'm all out of ideas!

    Excelle.
Download Seagate’s disk install program and make sure you hard drive is totally erased and reformatted.  You may have an old MBR (Master Boot Record) on the old disk drive that’s causing the problem.

Cheers, I'll give that a go.

    Video Card:  GeForce 2 MX400
Disk Drives:  Western Digital 200GB hard drive (formatted on another computer,
                                  no OS yet)
                        LiteOn DVD rewritable drive

Operating System:  none yet, will use Windows XP as soon as I can get to my
                                 drives.
I can get to my BIOS.  All my drives appear in BIOS and show up as the correct slave, master settings.  I have disabled all the SATA RAID stuff.  When I try to boot up, it does a memory test,  lists all my drives and stuff...then freezes.  I have tried changing the boot up order of my drives into all possible orders.  The four lights on the back give me different messages each time.  Nothing consistent there.  What could be keeping me from booting to my drives?

Your PSU looks to be quite capable of handling a Prescott, so as Raidahs said, all you need is the BIOS flash.  I asked you for your rail by rail currents in another post, but as I see them here, never mind.  Unfortunately, since Intel kept making changes to the Prescott, the earliest BIOS that will run the Prescott for this board is v1.4.  The boards are shipped with v1.1, which is rather aggravating.  If you don't have access to a Northwood chip (P4 with 'C' after it's speed, ie. 2.8C), I would suggest contacting either MSI or whoever you purchased your board from, and ask them to update your BIOS.  Do not let them talk you into paying for this service, as the board's packaging plainly states that it is designed for the Prescott, despite the fact that it does not support it out of the box.
If you have any problems, just let us know.  Heck, keep us posted no matter what happens

  • How to create a new system drive

I have a 4.5 yr old G5 that I want to keep for awhile, but I think its time to replace the original system drive. The second drive is a bigger and more recent drive that I want to reformat and install the latest OS X on it, then move to the top position as the system drive. I was thinking I would leave drive 2 in place and do the reformat and system install before moving it up to the top - will that work? Isn't there some concern about "master and slave" positions (or drive 0 and drive 1) when it comes to system drives? Can I reformat and install onto drive 2 and then simply move it up to the top position to then function as the system drive? Any better procedure? (I'm planning to install a new, larger drive in the lower slot after I create and move the new system drive.)
    Thanks for any advice!

    Hi
No need at all to move drives around (and it can be a pain to do so in the G5s anyway) - just install your new drive in the empty slot, install the system, and use System Preferences - Startup Disk to make that the boot drive. Master/slave doesn't apply to SATA systems.

Hello.  I just upgraded to Lion OS X 10.7.3.  I was previously running 10.5.7 which included the ENTOURAGE application.  how do I retrieve needed information from this application that no longer runs on this new system?

The file you'll be looking for that has most of what you're looking for - messages, address book, etc. is the Entourage Database.  The verison of Microsoft Office I run (on Lion) is Office 2008.  By default the Entourage Database for this verison is at user/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Main Identity/Database.  That folder (Main Identitty) also has your rules, signatures, and such.  You'll have to recover this file from whatever backup you have.  If you have a different version of Entourage, the file location will be a little diffferent.
    Good luck

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.
