Lion Recovery says I haven't purchased

I will explain exactly how I came to where I am today as I think it may be important so sorry if its a bit long!
I have been using Windows since it began and wanted to see what using a mac was like.  What I did is head over to ebay and got myself a mac mini pre-owned.
The mac mini had osx lion already installed.  I had to get an apple id to use so did this also. please not that this must have been installed using the previous owners apple id.
I enjoyed my experience using a mac and thought it was a good idea to get myself an imac.. went all out on it and got the best one available.
It has arrived and all pre-installed etc and working fine! all the updates installed etc.. now I have 2 problems!
1) in the appstore icon it has a red number 1, says there is an update for iphoto.. I click on it and it says that there is an update available for another device..  I cannot get rid of it.. I think its something to do with the mac mini. any ideas? I want my imac to forget any other devices..especially the other persons mac mini.
2) this is a bigger issue..  I want to give my mac mini to my girlfriend and do a fresh install of osx lion so its a brand new clean install with a new format of hdd.
I read the instructions, I held down command+r and accessed the recovery screen.. it then said which drive do I want to do the install to.. I selected the only dive available, it then says to enter my apple id and password, this was entered.. just to be told "this apple ID has not purchased lion!!"
I didnt download lion as it came pre-installed on my imac.. i have read on other posts that you can copy a file from app folder but the file is not there.. the app store doesnt have any option to download. so i have 2 concerns, a) I cant install onto mac mini and b) what happens if I need to install from recovery partition on imac? is it going to say I have not purchased? appstore purchase screen says I have no purchases! I am very concerned and in a panic!

You seem to have run across a little-noticed change in the license agreement (which nobody reads).
When you purchase a Mac (with any version of OSX), or purchase an upgrade to Snow Leopard or previous, the license allows you to transfer the license along with the hardware when you sell it.
However, the license for Lion purchased from the App Store does not allow you to transfer it. (See section 3.B here: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx1072.pdf).
The seller of the Mini no doubt bought it with Snow Leopard or earlier, then upgraded to Lion.  According to the license, he/she was required to erase it and install the original OS on it, and include the discs.
Looks like you (or, preferably, your girlfriend) will have to spend the $30.

  • ITunes is saying I haven't purchased something that I have

Theres this one season of a TV show I own that I've purchased all the episodes, but the store is saying I haven't purchased it, and still gives me the option to purchase again. I did last night, I got duplicates of all the episodes, but it's still marking it as not have been purchased. I really hope my credit card wasn't charged. I made an appointment to talk on the phone with them but not until next Saturday. Is there anything I can do to undo the purchase if I did end up purchasing it again?

I am now having the same problem - I cannot find the SAG/AFTRA screener that I just redeemed - however, it is showing up as a rental on my itunes (on my PC).  But it is not showing up yet on my Apple TV.    It also has NOT yet finished downloading - so does that mean once the screener is done downloading entirely, then it will appear on my Apple TV?

  • I Restored My Imac, But I Can't Install Moutain Lion As It Says I Haven't Purchased Lion. This Is Because I Went From Snow Leopard Straight To Mountain Lion. PLEASE HELP

So my mac is pretty much useless becuase i can't install mountain lion after a restore of my mac.
I have an imac late 2008 which i bought second hand. It only had Leopard OS X. So I bought the Snow Leopard OS X discs and installed them. I then bought Mounain Lion Straight from the app store and downloaded that.
However I recently decided to restore it for extra space. So i restored it fine and then attempted to reinstall Mountain Lion. Then a message popped up saying that 'This Apple ID has not purchased Lion' meaning that i can't now install Mountain Lion.
I then inserted the Snow Leopard disc and then it would not give me the option to install it on my hard drive and there was a little yellow caution sign on the picture of the hard drive.
I am stumped for ideas now and REALLY NEED SOME HELP
    Thanks,
    Fin

If you installed Leopard that is why you can't install Mt Lion. The system Must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion or Mt Lion.
If you only erased the Macintosh HD partition then you left the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition in tact on that system. At startup hold down the Command+r keys to boot to the Recovery HD Partition. From there erase the Macintosh HD partition and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. It should then download Mt Lion and ask you for the Apple ID that was used to purchase Mt Lion.
The Reason Snow Leopard might not be installing is because of the Recovery HD partition. To get rid of that you must First Re-Partition the drive As One Partition. Then install Leopard then SL (Or Snow Leopard from the start) and then update it to 10.6.8. Once that is done you should be able to log on to the Mac App Store and Re-Download Mt Lion.

I recently deleted my software to do a hard reset on my mac book air and when I went to reinstall it, it tells me that I haven't bought it and to use an Apple ID that I've bought it with so I bought the software again and now it's telling me I still haven't bought and I know for a fact I've bought it TWICE now

When I try to buy a song, it brings me to the security questions screen saying I have never purchased from this computer, which I have many times.  Since it's been years since I've needed security questions, I don't remember them. Any help on getting purchases re-recognized by iTunes?

  • I have bought and downloaded a movie to my iTunes account but when I try and watch it either on my PC or on my AppleTV it says I haven't purchased anything?!?!?!?!?!?

Firstly why is it so difficult to find answers to problems?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
    Secondly
I have purchased and downloaded a movie but when I try to view it on my PC or my Apple TV it says that I haven't purchased anything, yet when I go into my iTunes account I can see my purchase.
    Frustrating or what?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

Details, please. Purchased from where, the iTunes Store? If so, does the movie appear in iTunes, and if it does what happens when you select the movie and click Play?
It's really difficult to offer advice with so little information to go on, so please post back and give us the complete situation. We can then probably come up with suggestions.
    Regards.

  • The app store says I haven't purchased any apps but I have

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me
Basically my MacBook Pro's hard drive recently got corrupted and I had to get a new one. Most of my files were saved, thankfully, but all of my apps were deleted. I've tried to re-download them from the app store but when I sign in, it tells me that I haven't purchased any apps, which isn't true!
My main concern is Pages, to be honest as I am a university student so having a word processor is kind of essential! And being a student I don't really have a spare £15 to buy something that I've already bought.
I may have just used another Apple ID to purchase all my apps for my Mac, but I have no idea what that was, except for the fact that I probably used the same email address for the Apple ID I know and the one I don't
So to make a long story short, does anyone know how to a) restore my purchases, or b) find my other Apple ID?
Thanks for your help in advance!

And you are looking in the Mac App Store (not iTunes) under the Purchased option?
Also, you are certain that you are signed on with that Apple ID to the Mac App Store (Store in top menu, then Sign In)?

  • HT4848 I'm trying to restore my MacBook Air but it tells me I need to purchase OS X mountain lion which I have but it says I haven't and I obviously can't put a disc in because MacBook Airs don't take discs. What do I do?

I'm trying to restore my MacBook Air but it tells me I need to purchase OS X mountain lion which I have but it says I haven't and I obviously can't put a disc in because MacBook Airs don't take discs. What do I do?

Thank you Terence for your help.  I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive.  so i felt sort of ok.  but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted.  it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it.  my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this.  i have 10 years of photos and videos.  so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup.  i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups.  i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all!  do you know why that is?  all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful.  thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash.  especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed.  any answers you have would be great. thank you.

  • How can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, i have done command-r

how can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, put another hd in, done command-r & sys reinstalled, but it wanted to update & now am stuck. I don't mind paying for mountain lion; it is too far to get to an apple store. but, i only have one mac, so i cannot download with another mac. lots of other apple, but only one mac.

You will need to do a network recovery:
    Install Lion/Mountain Lion on a New HDD/SDD
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I wanted to create two partitions on my iMac w/ Lion using a Recovery USB i created using Lion Recovery Disk Assistant but I keep getting Partition failed message saying "couldn't unmount disk"

I have this recently purchased iMac that comes with a Lion but I wanted to have two partitions on the hard disk. I know that the Recovery HD partition is on the same hard disk so I downloaded the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant and created a Recovery disk using a USB. I boot up the system using the USB Recovery disk and run Disk Utility to create 2 Partitions on the hard disk but I get a Failed partition message saying "couldn't unmount disk". What could be the problem here?

Thanks for your continued help Tony. Do you mean normal boot into the regular operating system setting i.e. no keys held down in bootup? I think I have tried this, with the same result.
Yes, that's what I meant.  If that doesn't work, verify that you have a G.U.I.D. partition scheme (you probably do):

  • After upgrading to 10.7.2, my iMac works fine for 40-50 minutes, then slows to a crawl.  Restart gets back to normal, then 40 minutes later need to restart again.  Thought about reinstalling Lion through Lion Recovery, but says my hard disk is locked?

Launch the Terminal app in /Utilities/, run these two commands (copy & paste each one separately and hit the return key):
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
    sudo chmod a+rx /volumes/*
at the Password: prompt, type in your admin password, carefully since nothing displays on the screen, and hit the return key. These should unlock your drives. You might have to restart.

  • I have upgraded to Lion, and want to upgrade my iPhoto 8.1.2, but when I try it says it was not purchased at a MAC Apple store, which it was.  Then it asks if I want to buy 9.2.3, and I say yes. It responds with Product Distribution file can't be verified

It responds with Product Distribution file can't be verified. Maybe damaged or not signed.  How do I get this fixed, so I can download the new iphoto's that are available.

How did you move your iPhoto library to the new system?  the recommended way is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Lion Recovery (Command R- reinstall Lion) Says 148 hours after being on for one day and over night

I accidently deleted some file on my computer that wouldn't let me start up my MacBook pro, 13 Inch, so I had to press Command- R at start up (brought me to Lion Recovery) and I choose reinstall lion and I started it yesterday morning and all day and over night. It's barely half way through and it says "148 Hours Left" which is crazy.. Should I just wait? is this normal? what do I do? Pleasee help someone!

It seems Apple is having problems with there servers or you have a Very Slow Internet connection. Best is to let it run as you can't use the computer anyway without the files you deleted.
There are reports of other that can not even get to the Lion download or any downloads for updates and such.
