Lion requests password for programs frequently

OS asks me for keychain passwords for Mail, Address book, and Safari. This did not start immediately after installing Lion but I wonder if settings are changed when updates to the Lion cluster of programs are downloaded. I have experienced these changed settings in previous OSX versions but have always been able to find the cure. I am stuck on this one right now.
I wonder if anyone can talk about the settings and how to set them for this kind of thing. The trouble is that I like to fix things and may have made it worse.

It sounds like you may have invalidated the code signatures of those applications. To find out, launch the Terminal application and copy or drag -- do not type -- the following line into the window:
codesign -vv /Applications/Mail.app
Press return. You should get the following lines of output below what you entered:
/Applications/Mail.app: valid on disk
/Applications/Mail.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement
If that's not what you get, reinstall and re-update Lion.

  • Pop-ups requesting passwords for keychain issues?

So today i downloaded OS X Mavericks. I thought it was pretty cool that you could have iCloud keychains. So, being someone who had never even opened key chain, opened the app to look around. It told me to log into keychain to view the content. Since i had never typed in a password on keychain, i assumed it was my account password. That didn't work:
Then around the same time, pop-ups from mail began asking for my password from all 4 of my accounts. I would type in the password for mail but the pop-ups would keep coming. So i went to the iCloud preferences because thats where i was directed to look at my online email accounts. But for some reason i was signed out of iCloud, so i typed in my information and this popped up:
    Another issue with keychain!!!
So now I am not signed into iCloud, or keychain. iCloud isn't bothering me, although i would like to be connected. But keychain, even though i have quit it, keeps giving me these pop-ups!:
So now i can't do anything on my Macbook Pro (2011) because these keep popping up! I don't know my "Local Items" password so i cannot fix it!
Please help, this is ruining my day!

    Try rebooting your Mac.
If that does not work, first repair permissions in Disk Utility and then reboot.
That worked for me.. now the password for Local Items is my login passwords, which is not what I want, but better than unknown..

  • Requesting  password for automatic downloads

On opening iTunes 11.1 a message is popping up requesting my password to register for automatic downloads- how do I get rid of it?
What I have done so far without success: 1. providing my password, several times. 2. uncheck "automatic downlaods" in preferences 3. clelan uninstall and new set-up of iTunes 4. contacting telephone support  5. scratch my head
I hope there are some better suggestions!

I've been having the same problem for about a week now and it's driving me crazy. I've changed passwords in everything to reflect the new protocols (that nobody informed us about, I might add) of having at least one capital, etc. etc., but that hasn't changed anything. I do have one song pending download that WON'T download because the file at iTunes is apparently corrupt, and I can't seem to simply eliminate this one song from the queue. HELP!!!!

  • Request password for purchase

Kids have got Ipods for Christnas, and I am going to use my Itunes account for them. One question though:
How do I get Itunes to request my password every time they want to buy something. I am not worried about the free apps, but the paid ones I am.
Alternatively, can I remove my card information from my account, if there isn't a simple solution, although ths is non-preferred.
    Thanks.
    Gary

    - Go to settings>iTunes and App Store and sign out and sign into your account.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
Thus, it appears you have apps that need updating that were peruchased with that strange account.

  • Mail requesting password for 2 separate email accounts

many times a day, please help.
My settings and passwords are correct and have been fine until this week, now I'm getting asked on a minute to minute basis.
Using Verizon DSL and GoDaddy, thanks!

Like many others, I too have noticed intermittent mail-check authentication failures since around mid-November. I use Eudora 6.2.4 with 3 Verizon accounts and another at my employer; only the Verizon ones have this problem. I see the same thing with Mail.app (version 3.5).
In my case, the problem seems to be 100% correlated with 2 of Verizon's pool of about 15 servers. Please see my postings at
    http://forums.verizon.com/vrzn/board/message?board.id=FiOS_Internet&thread.id=10 18 .
I have no explanation as to why some user's Mail Preferences are reverting to APOP. I can see that Ernie Stamper's suggested workaround of setting the preference to "Password" works on Verizon, but IMHO is a bit risky, since that results in your name and password being sent in the clear. I have found that for Verizon users at least, setting the preference to "MD5" is better; that's secure, and it'll work most of the time, but if it fails, Mail will immediately fall back to "Password" which will always work -- that's still unsecure but at least it does that only occasionally rather than every time.

  • IPhone requesting password for an account I'm already logged in to

    Hello,
My Apple ID has several email addresses connected to it and one of them (it seems) used to be an OLD Apple ID that I deleted.
I've just turned on my new 5S and I'm attempting to restore from iCloud backup. I've successfully entered the pasword for my iCloud account, but now the phone is asking for the password associated with the OLD Apple ID (which I must have used to buy one or more apps that are installed on my phone, but which no longer exists and whose email address is now attached the ID I'm already signed in to). I know. What a mess.
I seem to remember this happening when I upgraded to 4S, but I can't remember how I resolved it.
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thank you.

    Hello KyeLani,
A common, and simple, solution is to try your current Apple ID's password. The following article contains further information and troubleshooting steps that can help resolve this.

  • Password for BT Homehub and I don't even have a Homehub!

Can anyone tell me why everytime I turn on my computer or wake it from sleep, I get a popup window requesting passwords for:
    BT Homehub-IF6E
    BT Homehub-F84B
I don't even have a homehub. I recently purchased the upgrade discs from PC World, which after installing, I get the above. It's annoying, to say the least. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably nothing but have a look in your prefferred network list anyway. Those numbers at the end look like account numbers or part of a Mac address, (looks like the format that Sky broadband users have for their wireless nets). just wondering if somehow Airport is looking for them.

  • How to change a password for an OpenLDAP user, which fails when using Lion's System Preferences?

    The Problem
Users are unable to change their password using System Preferences -> Users & Groups on a Mac that is connected to an LDAP server (specifically, OpenLDAP).
This error appears to be a result of OS X 10.7.4 now sending the username of the user rather than their full DN (e.g. it's sending bobsmith, notuid=bobsmith,ou=Users,dc=companyname,dc=com).
(a bug report for this issue has been filed with Apple and can be seen on OpenRader @http://openradar.appspot.com/11768796)
    Steps to Reproduce:
Try to change the password using the System Preferences -> Users & Groups prefpane on Lion. It fails with the following error message:
The password for the account “bobsmith” was not changed. Your system administrator may not allow you to change your password or there was some other problem with your password. Contact your system administrator for help.
    Expected Results:
    The password should be changed.
    Actual Results:
The error appears, and on the LDAP server, an error like the following is logged:
    Jun 28 08:42:21 ldap3 slapd[7810]: conn=10518785 op=2 RESULT oid= err=21 text=Invalid DN
This error appears to be a result of OS X 10.7.4 now sending the username of the user rather than their full DN (e.g. it's sending bobsmith, notuid=bobsmith,ou=Users,dc=companyname,dc=com)
Notes: This was encountered by someone else over at the AFP548.com forums who ended up patching their LDAP server to resolve the issue. This shouldn't require patching LDAP to resolve, however. Lion needs to (at least have an option to) send the full DN of a user requesting to change their password, not the short username:
Text from above forum link (in case it is taken down):
So, I’ve got this OpenLDAP server with network home directories at home that all of my Mac machines authenticate to. Everybody can bounce around to whatever Mac is available. It works great.
Anyway, with Snow Leopard, I was able to change user passwords via System Preferences. However, that got broken when I upgraded to Lion (amongst other things). Both Snow Leopard and Lion send exop’s to the ldap server, but for whatever reason, the id is screwed up in Lion (or at least, it’s screwed up on the two machines at home I tested this with). Instead of sending the user’s DN, e.g. “uid=user,cn=users,ou=something,dc=somewhere,dc=com”, the ldap server is only sent the uid, e.g. “user”. The ldap server is expecting a DN here, so naturally, it fails with the error “Invalid DN”.
    Bummer.
So, to work around that, I had to patch OpenLDAP (version 2.4.26 in this case). Now, when my server can’t resolve the id it’s given during a password change, it will look at the bind DN, and if the id string is contained within the bind DN string, it will just use the bind DN as the entry to change. I figured this would still allow me to manually specify password changes via an admin account while still giving users the ability to change their own passwords without having to point them at a webpage (lame).
I should point out that all my accounts have the uid as part of the DN… I guess if you were doing some kind of crazy SASL mappings, this might not work for you…
Anyway, here’s the patch in case anyone else is interested… If it works for you, great. If not, oh well.

It was a mess in requards to freezing up, no zoom and most of all no adjustments in: contrast, hue, color, etc. You're stuck just like a car with no engine or wheels who wants that.  The other Logitech products i.e. Pro 9000 is being discontinued with no software updates in the future  and the same with the other products. Most of the other manufactures do not provide software that is really compatible provideing true HD with full features. I'm willing to spend around $199,00 or so.  Any suggestions?

Well I found my own answer to the webcam concern that I had ....I bought the Logitech C-910...Yes, I know the Logitech states their software is not compatible with OS X ...That's OK, I only use the basics supplied by Logitech to open the cam...Logitech does supply HD settings which are useful.  I like the wide angle which is there to play around. Then I use a software program called "Webcams Settings" found at Apple's App Store. There is a small charge for this download but more than worth it to have a fully functioning system.  The best way to get there is obliviously via your "Dock." Click on the icon and type in "Webcam Settings" in the top right portion of the page and presto....you have all the goodies to play like a professional. i.e.:  zoom, pan, tilt, aperture. etc. of course your webcam camera(s) must have the capability to perform these options in order to use them.
Note I have used my webcam for everything you can imagine and have a 60 foot cord (several cords linked together) to go outside (LOL) 'Just love the goodies with "Webcam Settings".  I take outstanding pics too if I do say so, please.  Funny, I rarely use my cam to Skype but knowing the option is there for me anytime I wish.  I my cam to photograph orchids and misc. even portraits and family play photos with my tripod in hand.   Just because there is a big road block in your path doesn't mean there aren't other avenues. In the corporate life it's called take a negative and make it a positive or else.......and if you have to gripe then you better have an idea on how to turn it around.  -So- I did Logitech and Apple.

If the backup volume is encrypted, and you forgot the password, then you'll have to erase the volume and start a new backup. There's no way to recover the password.

hi all. i just downloaded mountain lion and it seems to have added an old password for admin at the start up, the old password was removed so all i had to do was press enter and off i go, i cant remember it, what to do now??

    Eli,
You can reset a Password (lost/forgotten) set on your Mac using 'Reset Password Utility' available with OS X Utilities tool. With OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Utilities tool can be generally found on a local hidden Recovery HD Partition if your Mac has one.
To check If your Mac has got a local hidden Recovery HD Partition, start your Mac holding COMMAND + R buttons. If you hold the keys pressed enough and there is a local Recovery HD Partition on your Mac, you will be presented with OS X Utilities window.
Click the 'Tool' menu item and choose 'Reset password'. Terminal window appears. Type 'resetpassword' into it and press 'Enter'. Reset Password window appears with User Account Names available on your Start-up Volume. Select the User Account Name and rest is simple to follow.
One of the advantages of this method is that it does not require any Authorization method such as administrative authentication to reset a password.
NOTE: If your Mac does not have a local hidden Recovery Partition on its system disk, you can create one using Disk Assistant application available from Apple. Search for the Disk Assistant in the support area.
