Lion Resume feature: How do I disable it?

I'm sure there's a need for it, but I think the Resume feature in OS X Lion is one of the most annoying things about the new OS. Is there any way of disabling this feature?

Removing the Resume feature for both the applications and the system FOREVER.
This feature is irritating especially the System Resume feature which can not be switched of at all and causes a large amount of problems if the Mac has crashed and you don’t have access to the tick box on the shutdown / restart window.
First of all you have to gain access to the User Library folder which for no good dam reason has been hidden in Lion. Open a termanal window and do this.
The following method makes the user library folder permanently visible.
Launch Terminalfrom Mac HD > Applications > Utilities.
From withinTerminal type the following command and press Return: chflagsnohidden ~/Library
Enter systemadministrator password if prompted and press Return:
Note: The System administrator password is notvisible as you type it.
Now open this folde rand find the folder “Saved Application State”.
Open this folder and delete everything that’s in it then lock the folder so Lion cant right to it anymore.
You have just stopped any application remembering its saved state. YAA
Now find the file in the library folder that will have this path.
Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.loginwindow.7E0D66E6-A59D-5A32-8C38-5ECD4D0 C0C81.plist
The numbers may be different but the ‘com.apple.loginwindow’ is the clue.
Before you lock this file close all programs and only have the Finder running. Once you have done that lock this file.
Congratulations you have just disabled Resume System wide and it will never make you wait for your computer to start up or open up your holiday snaps at the beginning of that important business presentation.
Apple if you are listening THIS FEATURE IS SO BAD. It may be great for users who only have iTunes open but for serious designers it creates a waste of a great deal of time. We are the sort of user that has already backed up their stuff in three places anyway and just need the Mac to restart after Flash crashes the whole system, not have to wait for the 26 programs we also had running to RESUME there last saved state.

  • ARD and Mountain Lion - Resume feature

We think we have discovered and issue with ARD, the resume feature and Mountain Lion.
We have 3 all intel mac labs at our middle school.
We just upgraded to Mountain Lion
We use ARD all the time for locking screens, teaching and disseminating software.
We have had an issue with Resume which we would just like to permanently remove.  We seem to have discovered this, anyone else having this issue?
    1. Set up the client computer so that resume does not work (don't need it with 500 kids using computers in a middle school). We set the General preferences and also made the Saved State folder read only.
    2. When we manually launch an app, restart the computer it seems to work fine.  (Manually= stand in front of the computer use your hand and the mouse)
    3. When we launch and app with ARD (open item) and then restart the computer with ARD, the app always opens on restart.
Go figure.  Will do more testing tomorrow but we think this is what is happening.  This is unfortunate because kids always forget to quit apps or think that by clicking on the Red dot they are quitting not just closing the window.  We use the ARD restart to sort of 'reset' the computer fresh, does us no good if Resume restarts the saved state.
    Anyone else have this issue?

Confirmed that this bug still exists in OS X 10.9.4 and 10.9.5. It is likely that the command line version of the restart tool (which is what ARD would send) does not honour the preferences. I’ve filed a bug (18571950).

When you log out, uncheck the box to reopen applications. If you're still using 10.7.3, then you will have to uncheck the back with each shutdown or restart.
10.7.4 update was suppose to fix it that when you uncheck the box, it should remain unchecked for restarts after that.

  • In Lion 10.7.x I cannot disable the Lock documents for 2 weeks in Time Machine! Thus it prevents to change anything else like the system preferences or other settings. How I can disable it?

Hello, In Lion 10.7.x I cannot disable the Lock documents for 2 weeks in Time Machine! Thus it prevents to change anything else like the system preferences or other settings. All is locked. How I can disable it?

Do you mean the check box isn't enabled?
Or you remove the check but it doesn't "stick"?
Or you remove the box but documents are stil getting locked?
That setting doesn't apply to other things in System Preferences, just apps that support AutoSave and Versions.  If you're having a problem with System Prefs, please clarify exactly what.

I keep seeing versions of this same question, and it's always the same answer: it's the TV. Well, it happens to me as well. But it only happens when viewing programming via Apple TV. My cable is totally fine: no dimming. Only with Apple TV. So what's the answer?

  • When I'm on an email FF stops me from linking to other pages/sites. Requires that I press Allow. This started recently. How do I disable this annoying feature?

When I am reading an email that I received and want to follow a link in that email, FF prevents me from doing so. It shows a new pane informing me that FF has prevented me from following the link. If I click the "Allow" button in the upper left-hand corner, I am then linked through.
This does not happen when I am on a particular website. In that case I have no trouble navigating the indicated links.
FF Preferences does not give me a way to disable this annoying feature that slows me down.
This problem started recently - possibly the last two weeks. It recurs whenever I use FF.
How can I disable this annoying "feature"?

    You're welcome

  • How do I disable the new feature that disables outdated plugins unless they are clicked?

I'm running Adobe Acrobat 8. I'm happy with it. Firefox has a new feature that automatically disables the PDF plugin unless it's clicked. It's called the "Click to Play" feature. Even when disabled, it's not really disabled: it activates itself for "vulnerable plugins." Though there is an option to make a website trusted for plugins, there is seemingly no way to make the PLUGIN ITSELF trusted. As a result, every time I get a PDF, I have to Click to Play.
Question: How do I truly disable this stupid new feature?
There is the following support article that explains this new system, and that the only solution is trust a website, but apparently can't disable the feature or trust the plugin:
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/why-do-i-have-click-activate-plugins?esab=a&s=disable+click+to+play&r=13&as=s

I have a new MacBook Pro. I am using firefox version 7.0.1, but my homepage is set to google. Firefox constantly keeps opening new tabs to its own homepage by itself. How can I disable this feature.

    Hi [email protected]
If you have set Google to be your homepage, that should be the first one to appear. Are you seeing the Firefox home page when you open new tabs? New tabs should be blank by default. The only reason I've seen Firefox open new tabs with Firefox data on it is after an upgrade of the product.

  • How do I disable the "Quick Search" feature?

I don't need or want the Quick Search function on Firefox. Simply deleting the Quick Search bookmarks folder doesn't get rid of it because it automatically reappears as soon as I restart Firefox. How do I disable this feature altogether?

    Here's what worked for me.
Right click in the toolbar area to get the toolbar customization menu. That is, right click just to the right of the "Help" button on the Menu Bar.
    You'll see:
    Menu Bar,
    Navigation Toolbar,
    Bookmarks Toolbar
These three may or may not have check marks, but you want to click on the fourth item, below the line, "customize".
Left click the customize button and the "customize toolbar" window appears. Click and hold the "quick search" and drag it into the customize window and release. Quick search should settle itself into the customize toolbar window, patiently waiting if you ever decide you might want it again. : )
