Lion Roars, Everything Crashes

Since I installed Lion, the system crashes almost every day, sometimes twice a day.  Also, without exception, every program I have used crashes, too, at least two or three times daily.  Is this a general problem?  Is there a fix?

...and failing that, do like many of the rest of us — uninstall.

  • Everything crashing

So I have a 13 inch MBP mid 2009 with a SSD hd and 8 gb of ram. After about 30 min of operating, anything running hangs. Finder, iTunes, iphoto, console. We have reindexed the Mac. Still it crashes. Under activity monitor syslogd was maxing out at 184.7% of the CPU. I took it back in and the bar and decided to swipe the hard drive, start from scratch. Did a fresh install of lion. Everything was working flawlessly. Updated everything at the store. Got iTunes back in order. The iPhoto, IPhoto started crashing. I had the activity monitor running and it was pulling 104% of the CPU. Then finder crashed. Console crashed. Everything crashed, on a fresh install. So now it is sitting on the desk crashed, still on and activity monitor running. The graph is pinged out by system at 66.33% and the rest with user. 0.00% idle. But under the names nothing is using the CPU.  So I'm at a loss here about what it could be. I think we have determined it is not software because I'm 5 hours in a fresh lion install. Is it hardware? CPU, motherboard? Anything will help.

Try running Rember to test ram (assuming the machine stays up long enough to run it).  It does some tests AHT doesn't.
Speaking of AHT and ram.  Were any of those runs of AHT using its extended memory tests?

  • Upgrading to mountain lion, deleting everything I have on Lion

I have so much rubish on my mac at the moment, its going quite slowly and often crashes. I want to upgrade to mountain lion, with everything being deleted, and everything I have done/changed on lion to be undone (basically like new). How do i go about doing this?

Obviously, make sure you first archive anything such as photos and documents that you do not wish to permanently erase.
Boot OS X Recovery and choose Disk Utility from the OS X Utilities screen. Choose the volume containing Lion from the left column - usually it is named "Macintosh HD" - then click Erase. This will take only a moment.
When it finishes, quit Disk Utility, and choose Reinstall Mac OS X from the Utilities screen. You will be asked for the Apple ID you used to purchase Lion, if it was not already installed on your Mac when you bought it. When it completes the Mac's Setup Assistant will appear in which you configure a new account. Don't be surprised when your personal information such as name, address, and phone numbers are automatically populated. These are gathered from Apple using your Apple ID, not from any information on your Mac.
After you log in to your account for the first time, purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store and install it.
    That's it!

  • After installing Mountain Lion my MacBookPro crashes after disconnecting from Cinema Display

Ever since I installed Mountain Lion on my 15" MacBookPro (early 2011 first with Tunderbolt connector) it crashes after disconnecting from Cinema display (this Cinema does not have Thunderbolt but mini display port). It woked fine under Lion.
This crash occurs in following situation:
MacBookPro is in closed clam shell operation. When Cinema display is still connected, I put MacBookPro into sleep. Then I disconnect Cinema display mini diplay connector from Thuderbotl port.
When I get home and open MacBookPro it is in deep kernel crash.
    It happens every time.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Rich

    You can bypass GateKeeper.

  • I just downloaded Mountain Lion and everything is working great. But i keep getting an error in the app store and i can't download 'Pages"

I just downloaded Mountain Lion and everything is working great. But i keep getting an error in the app store and i can't download 'Pages' or any other apps. I keep getting an "error" and it says credit card processing is temporarily unavailable......help

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Launch the App Store. See if that made a difference...

  • Since downgrading to LION iCal frequently crashes on opening

Since downgrading to LION iCal frequently crashes on opening or very soon afterwards. Sometimes does it 3x in a row then finally opens.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    Thanks for your time,

Do you have submitted another recent crash report that does show a crashing thread?

  • I did download Lion and everything is fine, but why in app store still stated DOWNLOAD and not INSTALLED, I already did 3 times and it still in DOWNLOAD label

I did download Lion and everything is fine, but why in app store still stated DOWNLOAD and not INSTALLED, I already did 3 times and it still in DOWNLOAD label

My guess is they changed that to Download for all the people who wanted to or needed to download it again. It's kind of a subset of Installed, now. I don't think it is a great solution, but that is what it is.

  • Everything crashes exc_bad_access (sigbus)

I was having significant issues with my last powerbook and decided it was time for an upgrade. Now, the problems have followed me (obviously in my user profile or something) and I'm trying to figure out how to identify the problem.
Everything crashes (iTunes, iPhoto, Firefox, Safari sometimes, 3rd party apps, Apple apps...) and all of them have the same error indicating that:
    "Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)"
"Thread 0 Crashed: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread"
I can't seem to find com.apple.main-thread identified elsewhere and none of the other forums indicate solutions for this particular fault.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has now crippled two machines (though on the bright side, my 'old' laptop is running in tip-top shape now that I've migrated!
I know someone is going to say start a new account so before that comment comes I'm wondering if you can also suggest the process for carrying over everything in my current profile (files, settings etc.) or if that's even possible.
I really just want to understand where this error is coming from and get to the heart of the matter.
    Thank you in advance!

Originally I tried to use the migration assistant, though it kept timing out during the "preparing information" phase. I tried both wifi and over ethernet cable.
In the end, I wound up just swapping hard drives. Initially, I thought (and Genius bar told me) that the problems I was having on the old machine were hardware related. It wasn't until I swapped drives that I realized this could be isolated to the data itself. The drive I put in the new pb is 500Gb (rather than the 320 stock) so I would have been swapping that anyway.
I read the best practices, but everything related to migration went out the window at the beginning. Now I'm wondering if A) I can simply figure out what the error is that I'm getting, and B) if not, how best to manually transfer information from my existing, error-ridden account to a new, clean account.

Since installing Mountain Lion, Outlook 2011 crashes.   A few seconds after opening I get this error message
"Microsoft Outlook must be closed because an error occurred. Any unsaved work may be lost."
Tried rebooting, haven't yet tried reinstalling Outlook from disc.
Other apps seem OK so far.
    Help is greatly appreciated.

Reinstalling Office 2011 did not fix the problem,  but on the Microsoft.com/mac site I found instructions for rebuilding the Outlook database (Identity).    This worked,  I no longer have the problem with Outlook 2011 Mac.

  • Since upgrading to ios6 everything crashes

Ever since I upgraded to ios 6 Literally everything crashes. Even searching the iTunes Store crashes. I have tried a few things I have seen on Apple Support Communities but nothing seems to help. Thinking it might have something to do with memory usage I got rid of a lot of unused apps I had loaded. Nothing seems to be helping. I have read that once you update you can never go back.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

For the App store crashing see:
IOS 6 App store crash: Apple Support Communities
    For other problems try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Unable to purchase "The Lions Roar" from the app store and 3 others...

Ok, so I seem to have an odd issue. Sorry if there is another thread about this but a search didn't flag anything up.
When I purchase from the app store I get the above message come up but I select ok and continue without issue. This is I've never had any issues where an app wasn't downloaded properly and "the lions roar" isn't even in the app store?
I have tried to resync with iTunes, no luck. I've tried to sign out and sign back in but no luck.
    Its getting really annoying now.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Sean

Loads of people are getting this.  "The Lion's Roar" appears to be music rather than an app. I get the same thing with an album I downloaded and my message also refers to "2 other items" (the "2 other items" thing seems to be a constant!).  The message seems to refer to a past music download but can appear whether it is apps or media you are downloading.
It is clearly an iTunes glitch which I have decided to live with rather than waste hours trying to rectify, especially as at it may well be a problem at Apple's end anyway.

  • Lion Upgrade - Boots...but everything crashes Launchd Crash

Anyone else seeing this?  Booted up into recover mode, and then tried the permission recovery to see if that helps.....it didn't.  None of my software seems to boot up at all....Lightroom dead, Skype dead, Office dead...
    ARGH!

    Well...attempte #2...
I uninstalled Symantec, and shutdown all of the auto-start programs.  Reinstalled Lion....and lo and behold it now appears to be working.  I'm performing the updates / will re-add the startup items in teh morning and see if that changes things...but for the moment it appears to be successful for whatever reason this go-around.
