Lion server configuration blocked...

Hello ! My lion server configuration is blocked...my computer seems not to work ....
I can not stop the configuration because the software tells me that he is still configuring....
I'm afraid that if i force closing the configuration application the installation would be corrupted....
any idea ?

OK, I'm considering one other configuration for our workgroup server:
MacMini Server running Mountain Lion Server with two 750GB internal drives. These will both be data drives and set up as RAID mirror.
For the system drive I would boot from a small (64GB or 128GB) external Thunderbolt drive. It would act as a dedicated OS drive.
Other than a little bit more storage room, would that give me any advantage over having both my OS and Data on the internal RAID? I've heard that having your OS isolated can be beneficial for some reason.
(The RAID and the OS volume would be backed up nightly with weekly rotational offsite backup as well).
I think I've decided against SSD drives for the reason that woodmeister50 pointed out above  (the network being more of a bottleneck than the drives). However, if there is some advantage to the external OS drive being SSD, Elgato has a nice thunderbolt solution for reasonable money.
Feedback appreciated!

  • MacMini Lion Server Configuration

    Hi There,
I'm replacing our aging Xserve with a new MacMini Lion Server. It will primarily serve job files to our 5 client machines via AFP.
My question is what is the best way to configure the 2 internal MacMini hard drives? Here is what I'm considering:
    Option 1:
Drive 1: 256GB SSD would contain the OS only
Drive 2: 750GB 7200rmb Drive would hold Job files only and would be RAID mirrored to an external drive via Thunderbolt.
    Option 2:
Drive 1 and Drive 2: 750GB 7200rpm drives configured as RAID mirror containing both the OS AND the Job files.
NOTE: For either option I have both onsite iterative nightly backups as well as periodic offsite backups so I'm well covered for data loss. Also, our Job files exceed 256GB so I can't fit them on an SSD drive, in case you were going to go that direction
My primary question is, would I see any considerable speed increases in accessing files via Option 1 vs. Option 2? (Option 2 is more straightforward and cheaper than Option 1).
Internal office network is pretty straightforward -- Cat 5e ethernet via a couple of Gigabit hubs.
    Any advice appreciated!
    - Keith

  • How can I configure Lion server or mail.app to show IMAP subfolders with mailboxes?

I'm sure we've all seen the weird IMAP glitch where mail subfolders appear down lower on the mail.app pane instead of nested neatly under the mailbox itself.  Usually you can get around this by changing the Inbox IMAP prefix to "" or "INBOX" or "/" or some such path that the server recognizes as the root path to your IMAP folder.  Unfortunately, this sometimes means you are unable to work with those folders or introduce other problems.
Since I am running Lion (Client) and Lion Server as my mail host, I would think that there is an appropriate answer to this either on the mail.app client settings, or perhaps with a Lion Server configuration through DOVECOT.  I don't mind if the solution is a command-line one, but I need to be able to easily set up my mailboxes so that mail subfolders appear properly under each mailbox, instead of being hidden away lower on the page where it is very inconvenient to find, especially when you are using multiple email accounts.
    Client Machine Lion 10.7.3
    Server Machine Lion Server 10.7.3
    Please Help!!!!

I've tried editing /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf on Lion Server to add the following:
    namespace private {
      type = private
      separator = /
      prefix = INBOX/
      inbox = yes
This puts me in a catch-22:
If I leave the "IMAP Path Prefix" setting in the account Advanced tab empty, I can see the subfolders and move messages in and out of them, but can't add or edit the folders or heirarchy.
If I set the "IMAP Path Prefix" to "INBOX" I can add and edit subfolders, but they don't appear nested under my inbox.
    Please help!

  • Adding redirect path and  pattern in Lion server for configuring software update server

Adding redirect path and  pattern in Lion server for configuring software update server.Any changes

Ok, after days of browsing on the forum I found the following hint on another discussion related to AFP access:
"This may be a service ACL issue.
It turns out one of the latest Apple updates turned on Service ACL's which caused AFP connections to be  blocked. Once I fixed the Service ACL in Server Admin... all connections and Single Sign On worked."
Well, after allowing access to all services to all users with Server Admin, we were finally able to log in the server with our admin account...
So, there must have been an update that turned on ACL's which caused even our local access, probably for OD/Kerberos, on the server to be restricted.

  • Any control of iPad system prefs in Lion Server or Configurator

I've been working with Configurator to set up some test iPads to be used in a library environment, and haven't seen any place where I can disable system sounds, keyboard clicks etc - does anyone know if this is possible under Configurator or Lion Server ?
Also is there a way to not allow logging out of the Apple ID once the device is configured or to block system preferences all together once configured.
    Thanks
    Rich

If you do not see something listed on the restrictions list on an individual ipad under settings- general- restrictions then there is not a way to block or disable it.  IOS 6 may provide for more control.  It will allow for disabling the home button but beyond that we will have to see.

  • How to import Lion Server VPN Configuration Profile into Profile Manager

    Greetings All,
I'm working on configuring a Lion Server VPN (10.7.2) and I hit the following road block. I succesfully started the VPN server and profile manager. In fact, if I download the built-in "everyone" profile that has the pre-configured VPN to device such as an iPad things work just fine. However, I'd like to create other profiles with the same VPN configuration info so I can delegate more specifically to different groups and users. I was hoping I could simply import the VPN configuration profile that I saved in the Server dashboard when I setup the VPN service into profile manager somehow. The reason I'm going this route is because every time I try to just re-make the VPN profile it doesn't want to work. I'm not sure why, but I figure why re-invent the wheel if I don't have too. Any suggestions?

After a lot of investigating I haven't found a way to do this, I'm assuming it cannot be done.

  • How can I configure Lion server to accept inbound VPN (L2TP) connections while connected as client to another vpn service?

    I have what I believe to be a unique need;
I have a MacPro (1,1) running Lion with Server app.
I require that this particular machine be connected as a client to a VPN server, while at the same time acting as a VPN server for my network.
The PPTP connection configuration is such that "Send all traffic over VPN connection" is checked.
If PPTP client is NOT connected, I can connect to Lion as VPN server. As soon as I make the connection from Lion as a client, I can no longer
    connect to Lion VPN server.
I understand this is because I am forcing all traffic out the virtual interface (tun0) and eth0 is no longer listening on the local network.
    1. Is it possible to bind the VPN client (on Lion Server) to a particular interface? If I could tell the PPTP client to only use eth1 as the interface of choice, my assumption would be that eth0 would then be free to accept incoming connections.
    2. Is it possible to bind the VPN service  (on Lion Server) to a particular interface? if I could tell the vpn serviec to only listen on eth1, and in turn tell the PPTP client to NOT communicate on eth1 but only eth0 then perhaps I could separate the communications?
In my head, it seems as though both of the above options would be required in order to use Lion as both a VPN server and VPN client
    Any and all help appreciated.

This is a standard facet of most VPNs - the problem lies in your NAT router since both clients appear to come from the same IP address as far as the VPN server is concerned, and the router can't separate out the traffic.
There are a couple of solutions.
First, the built-in VPN server supports L2TP and PPTP protocols. You should be able to connect one system under each protocol, so that gets your two machines connected.
Second, you can replace your NAT router with one that supports multiple VPN clients (often termed 'VPN passthrough').
Third, setup a site-to-site tunnel so that your entire LAN is connected to the VPN (this saves you from having to run a separate VPN client on each machine, but is typically only worth it when you have more machines).

  • Lion Server Profile Manager Configuration

    Hi Guys,
Currently have been testing Lion Server and Profile Manager Configuration.
    So Far Have setup
Lion with Server App and Server Admin Tools
Configured Open Directory Master and enabled SSL on LDAP
Once Configured OD has created a CA Certificate can use for Profile Manager
Have Enabled in Server.app Web and Profile manager
In SSL Certificate Configuration have set CA Certificate for Web and Enabled Apple push notifications with my apple ID
In Profile Manager Enabled Device Management and Enabled Sign configuration profiles and selected CA Open Directory Certificate Created when setting up OD Master.
On Server Originally could install Trust Profile OK and Enroll Server OK with no issues, but on any other 10.7 Devices could install Trust Profile OK but would always say unsigned and Enroll would never work or just hang.
Now Since Played around with settings on 10.7 Server can no longer enroll but trust OK.
    Questions have is
For SSL and Profile Manager to work properly as well as Certificates do you require to purchase a proper SSL Certificate or can we use the OD Master Certificate that gets created. All we are testing is on the Local LAN so don't want to get a SSL certificate from the internet.
Also why cannot 10.7 clients trust profile and enroll Devices Properly? How do I get this working properly?
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Shane

Not sure if its that as finally got Lion Server working on a VM setup so network shouldn't be an issue...
Had 1 OSX Lion Server VM and 1 OSX Lion Client VM and OSX Lion Server VM gets profile and enrolls device fine but again OSX client doesn't get enroll just sits again at installing..... even if set keychain to trust and make trust profile verified..
any other ideas? I think need to somehow get the server to trust trust profile by default instead of going to keychain all the time.

Did you get this to work in an ESXI envrionment? If so, which version are you running?

  • Configuring postfix on Mountain Lion Server

I'm trying to upgrade from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server and did an install of Mountain Lion Server on top of a working instance of Snow Leopard Server.  The "crippled" GUI on Mountain Lion Server is forcing me into using terminal to configure Postfix to handle incoming email.
I would like to configure Postfix to only accept email that is forwarded from a gmail business account.  The public email address is [email protected] which is received by Google Mail, goes through their spam filters and then is auto-forwarded to  [email protected]
The server WAN domain is nonpublic.com  The ip address is 96.231.165.126
The server LAN is nonpublic.local  The ip address is 10.6.18.201
The server is a MacMini running Mountain Lion Server 10.6.8 hostname server so the FQDN is server.public.com.
The network on the MacMini is configured to handle both LAN and WAN traffic through the 1GB physical ethernet port which plugs into a CISCO 3750 switch.  The external traffic to the WAN flows through the switch as tagged packets.  The LAN traffic is not tagged.  The VLAN connection is running 802.1q
When an email is sent through the WAN to [email protected] the Postfix SMTP log shows:
    Jun  7 19:29:22 server.public.com postfix/smtpd[42181]: connect from cisco.public.com[96.231.165.123]
    Jun  7 19:29:22 server.public.com postfix/smtpd[42181]: disconnect from cisco.public.com[96.231.165.123]
I can send emails from a client on the LAN through this server with no problems.  The incoming mail server can connect to the machine via the Cisco router/switch but Postfix just shows "cisco" as the connection (that's the router's DNS name) and provides no more info.  I suspect Postfix possibly doesn't like the 802.1q connection and drops the SMTP request to connect on port 25.
I have turned on "debug" logging in Postfix, but that is all that appears in the SMTP log file
I've spent most of the week reading through everything I can find on how to install and configure postfix on Mountain Lion Server and work around the cripled GUI in the "server" application.  I'm barely OK using Terminal and not familiar at all with configuring Postfix directling editing the config file.
What is the best approach to configure Postfix to allow SMTP connections from the outside to deliver incoming email that is forwarded from gmail.com?
I did find an "aliases" file in /etc/postfix/aliases but I'm not sure how to add the aliases and if adding aliases with a text editor is going to cause the "server" app problems and if the changes will be lost when the machine is restarted.
    Any help would be appreciated.

MrHoffman, thank you for your response to my challenge to get the new test server working.  This is a migration from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server.

I agree that I should change the LAN domain from .local to something like .internal or whatever.   I've been running with .local for 5 years  on snow leopard server and never had any problems so that was a low priority.
I hope I'm just not seeing some obvious setting in main.cf

  • Error configuring services from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server

I am trying to upgrade a Snow Leopard Server Mac Mini to Mountain Lion Server.
We have two Mac Mini servers at our office (production and backup) so I migrated the everything from our production server to the backup using the migration assistant when setting up the backup computer.
I now have the backup at home trying to upgrade it to Mountain Lion Server.  I have downloaded and installed Mountain Lion as well as the Server App version 2.2.  I basically followed the simple directions found in the Apple documentation.
I started the server app and it got to the part where it said "Upgrading services".  After running for a few minutes, I get a window that states "An error occurred while configuring your server."  It also sayd "The following actions failed or were not attempted:" with a red dot next to "Upgrading services".  The other three items:  "Authenticating to local directory", "Reading directory configuration" and "Authenticating to local directory services" have gray dots so I'm sure they were not even attempted.
Our Snow Leopard server is setup for SMB file sharing, LDAP services, FTP, Web, DNS, DHCP.
Can someone point me to where I can figure out what exactly is failing?  Are there specific log files I need to look into?
    Thanks

Have EXACTLY the same issue - also tried reinstalling mountain lion server fresh and still had the same problem...

  • How do i configure my lion server to update my other workstations

I have a brand new Mac OS X Lion server. How do I go about setting up my Lion server to download updates for my other workstations (about 30). These workstations are mixed with Macbook Pros using 10.6 as well as some using 10.7, iMac's using 10.6 and 10.7 and Mac Pros using 10.7.
What do I need to do on the client side as well so that they can download from my OS X server. I have created a DNS entry for my OS X server in my DNS as well as a static IP.

How do I go about setting up my Lion server to download updates for my other workstations
Use Server Admin to turn on the Software Update Server. Give it a while to download all the updates. Done.
What do I need to do on the client side as well so that they can download from my OS X server
How do the clients connect to the server? Are they using central accounts via Open Directory? or are they local accounts on each machine.
If you're using Open Directory you can control the software update server via Workgroup Manager, otherwise you'll need to walk through each machine and update its software update configuration. Apple have a tech note that describes how to manually configure each client to use your server.

  • How do I RE-Configure Lion Server?

So, i was playing with Lion Server, and had managed to Mail to recieve, but not send messages, and webmail sems to be all messed up.
How do i Re-run the Configuration for  Lion server? It's a remote Mac Mini, so i am not able to be physically at the machine and wipe/rebuild it. I would like to do it all remotely if possible. Is there a way to wipe all the settings except network, IP, and remote acces, and reset it all up?
I could have sworn there was a configure utility in 10.5 that you could re-run to input the serial, set admin accounts and so forth.
The server is socialgraphics.com if it matters. I think i got DNS set up right, but the server is wonky, and i'd like to just reconfigure if possible
    Thanks!

    Hi Paul
You can still download Lion (and the Server App for Lion) from the App Store by calling Apple Sales (in the US this would be 1-800-692-7753) and paying for a redemption code. I think it's $20? I'm not sure what number you call outside of the US? Apple's Service & Support page may help?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If I've understood your post correctly you may not have to do any of the above?
"I wish to put 10.7 on another device that does not support 10.8 but don't know how to do it?"
Assuming your existing 10.7 Server is still active why can't you target disk mode (over firewire) the device that does not support 10.8 and either use CarbonCopyCloner or use Disk Utility to restore? When you're happy migrate to 10.8.
    HTH?

  • How to configure Lion Server as network time server?

I have Lion Server at the top of a small network of Windows 2K, Windows XP and Windows 7 machines.
I need each of those computers to synch their time to that of the Mac Server because this network operates without internet access.
I have tried various protocols from those machines to synch on the server's IP but they all fail.
It has led me to belive I need to enable a service to allow time synch to the managed computers.
But I can't find information on this.  I keep getting directed to how to synch the mac to a time server or time machine configuration tips.
    Thanks in advance

In Server Admin, select your server, click on Settings, then go to the General tab.  You will see an option to enable the Network Time Server.
