Lion Server hangs

I have a mini server that I updated to Lion Server and it seems like if someone is logged in, and then it goes into screen saver mode, then I can't log back into the machine.  It's pretty much hung.
I'm really thinking about reverting back to Snow Leopard Server.

I have exactly the same issue! Do you have the system on a RAID or just on one single internal disk?
We have a Lion Server on a Mac Mini, with the system on a Promise RAID.
It worked fine for 3 months. Then suddenly it started to when I restarted the machine, everything seemed fine. For 2 minutes, then whatever application you start hangs up and ballooning forever. SSH works fine, but we really need to get into the GUI.
Strangely enough, all services the Lion Server is providing works fine and our users don't notice anything.
Tried repair permissions, start in safe mode and Disk Warrior. Nothing. Also checked the log for something weid, but nothing.
Anyone??

  • OS X Lion Server hangs on install ("authenticating")

I'm trying to update my headless/keyboardless/mouseless Mac Mini Server (mid-2010) running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server. I've been able to download Server.app from the App Store without problem, but when I run it, it asks for my admin password and hangs at the "Configuring Services" dialog with an "Authenticating" message in the bottom left corner. It appears to be hanging at this authentication bit.
    WHAT I DID
    Installed Lion.
Downloaded Lion Server from App Store.
    Launched Server.app.
    WHAT I EXPECTED
    Lion Server to install.
    WHAT HAPPENED
Hangs at "Configuring Services" dialog with an "Authenticating" message in bottom left corner.
Eventually times out with a "The request timed out" error message.
    Help?

I had the same ""The request timed out" error message", with Mac mini server 2010 version.
I'm going to crazy for this strange bug.
It still can login OS succesfully, but the server app seemed something wrong on my system.
(Now, I can't login the Server even the correct password is entried)
You can see the Server app is not "INSTALLED" situation from the following photo.
but when I click "INSTALL" server app,
It didn't have any help if I choose Software Update frim Apple menu.
So I tried to delete the server app, the click "INSTALL" again,
    such texts shown,
Since both Lion & Lion Server already purchased on 19 July,
I just click "Buy Both",  I remembered it seemed both apps begin re-download,
but the Server app still not work, can't login anymore(my password unrecognized),
still "not INSTALLED" on Mac app store Purchase record,
Then I got another receipt from Apple, the purchase became double-counted.
After reporting the problem to Apple, refund was done.
But My Server.app was still in a very strange situation.....
I only tried re-install server.app but without whole system re-install in the above case,
maybe I will try to click "Buy Both" again,
try to Re-install the whole system later to see if the bug disappears.

  • Upgrade from Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server hangs at configuring services...

I am running the Mac mini with snow leopard server 2.53 ghz 2GB of ram, 2x500GB hard drives, and have followed through the process to install Lion Server. The installation appears to be hung at the Configuring Services section of the setup process. I have left it for a couple of hours and nothing has progressed.
Should I leave it longer, hoping that it will work through the process (if in fact it is working through something)?
How long should this normally take?
As this is my work server, hosting mail, web, FTP, and file sharing, it is rather important to get it up and running as quickly as possible.
Any thoughts on how I can get it moving?
Hard power off of the Mac Mini reboots the machine, then proceeds back to the setup page, and then hangs on the same Configuring Services.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Lion Server Upgraders,
    beware and proceed with caution.
Apple web site is naively optimistic on the upgrade process:
"To upgrade your Mac to OS X Lion, you don’t need to drive to a store, bring home a box, and install a bunch of discs. All you do is click the Mac App Store icon, buy Lion for $29.99, and your Mac does the rest. Just make sure you have what you need to download Lion to your Mac."
And then has a 3 step process...
    This is completely miss leading.
    Read this document first: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/lion_server_upgrading_migrating.pdf
It will make it readily apparent that moving from Snow Leopard Server to Lion is not going to be simple.
Having done this twice now.. I have found that:
    1. Open Directory migration is a weak point. Lion & Snow Leopard Open Directory are not compatible, so if you have masters & replica then expect trouble. I have an unresolved issue trying to get a simple Lion Server to Lion Server Open Directory replica up and running. This compatibility seems to also cause migration to fail, as I found that all my local User/Groups transferred ok but non of the /127.0.0.1/LDAPv3 (Open Directory) ones did. This is a very important item, as all the mail accounts in dovecot use LDAP generated UID, so you have to be careful that you do not loose mail accounts.
    2. Mail - your mail aliases will not transferred, so you will need to reapply the aliases.
    3. Web Server Setup - This broke, under migration as I gather the entire Web serving tree has changed. In particular I had "Snow Leopard" Web Mail (which is based on Squirel) on my "Snow Leopard" Server and this is now dead...
    4. Digital Certificates - I found that the valid (ie signed by trusted CA's) did not get migrated, so I had to re-imported my Digital Certificates. If you have paid for third party CA certificates then make sure you have got these copied somewhere, as if you loose them then you will likely need to go to your provider and get a certificate revocation and new certificate, which will cost you money!
    Cheers,
    Zebity.

  • Lion Server Hangs After Apple Logo

    Hello all,
I've seen simillar posts about this but nothing concrete for a fix before calling for service. Here's a short history. Our macpro lion server (2012) machine had a bad system update from 10.7.1 to 10.7.4 if I remenber correctly. The update went bad and I had to call service to fix and reupdate back to 10.7.4 After that it all seemed great. We purchased extensis porfolio pro for our cd image database and it requires installation on the server itself. After trying to install, message popped up the installer unexpectedly quit. Tried the installer on another machine and worked fine so installer is safe. Went to disk utility to fix permissions and the app itself would unexpectedly quit so I tried a restart. After the restart it boots but after the Apple logo it disappears and all I get is the grey screen with the occasional spinning grey circle. Did a fsck -f and it modified the disk so I did it again until it came up ok. After the second round it came back ok and still the same result after restart. Good thing is our server is still accessible (for now) and we can still do our work until I can copy files. I plan to do tonight after everyone leaves is run disk warrior if I can get the cd try to open. Unfortunately I'm not a real mac tech and can only with what I'm familiar with. Repairing permissions and fsck stuff.
Is there anything else to try or at this point or should I just call applecare?
Thank you for taking the time.

    I have trouble understanding
    When or how ?
When you SET LION to be the default startup disk / OS from Windows Taskbar? from Windows control panel "Boot Camp" where you can also set the default?
If you have any external drives, disconnect them, and anything else.
If you set Lion to be the default in Lion System Preferences control panel "startup disk" - then boot into Windows using Alt or Control panel, then let it restart itself and go into Mac OS X.
Normally trouble booting Mac OS is due to a check disk going on, dirty file system journal directory or from forced hard restarts.
Boot into Recovery Partition Mode and check your partitions and repair. Command R
There are details though that are probably missing.

  • Help needed: Lion Server hangs during reboot (Symbol not found: _kCUIMaskOnlyKey)

    Hi,
I not sure if this is the right forum but hopefully someone might be able to help.
Yesterday I was configuring my local mail system. (Local IMAP server and I checked the access from WLAN and Internet. Everything seems to
work fine until I noticed, that mails from my inbox would disappear automatically after a couple of seconds. I switched all mail clients (iPhone, ...) of,
sent a test mail - but the problem stays. I had no idea what was going on. So I decided to reboot the system. The system came up again and I logged in.
It looked like a fresh desktop was created and Safari wanted to make changes to the system. I decided to roll back the system and reinstalled it from
a backup before I made all the changes. After restoring the system hangs with the gray screen. I tried a reboot in save mode - same result. Then
I rebooted in single user mode. The file system looked OK, but I found many crashes in the system logs. Continuing to multi user mode did not succeed.
I received all the crash logs on the console.
Next I removed the disk and connected it to my laptop. I have extracted the last couple of line from the system log file:

Had the exact same problem yesterday on my mid-2010 Mac Pro with OS X 10.7.3 Server. Formatted my SSD boot drive and restored via time machine and I had the exact same error.
Here is how to solve it. Download from the apple site the OSX10.7.3ServerComboUpdate.dmg. I downloaded using my laptop. Extract the dmg and get the pkg file inside. Put it on a usb drive. Boot your broken OS X system in recovery mode(option key as you boot up, choose Recovery HD). Open the Terminal(don't use the single user mode, the following command did not work from there). If your OS X installation is Macintosh HD type the following(assuimg your USB disk is called USB,otherwise change it):
    # cd /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD\
    # mkdir update
    # cd update
    # cp /Volumes/USBDrive/*.pkg .
    # installer --verbose -pkg MacOSX10.7.3ServerComboUpdate.pkg -target "/Volumes/Macintosh\ HD"/
When it finishes reboot and your OS X will boot normally.
    Hope that helped.

  • Lion Server Profile Manager Configuration

    Hi Guys,
Currently have been testing Lion Server and Profile Manager Configuration.
    So Far Have setup
Lion with Server App and Server Admin Tools
Configured Open Directory Master and enabled SSL on LDAP
Once Configured OD has created a CA Certificate can use for Profile Manager
Have Enabled in Server.app Web and Profile manager
In SSL Certificate Configuration have set CA Certificate for Web and Enabled Apple push notifications with my apple ID
In Profile Manager Enabled Device Management and Enabled Sign configuration profiles and selected CA Open Directory Certificate Created when setting up OD Master.
On Server Originally could install Trust Profile OK and Enroll Server OK with no issues, but on any other 10.7 Devices could install Trust Profile OK but would always say unsigned and Enroll would never work or just hang.
Now Since Played around with settings on 10.7 Server can no longer enroll but trust OK.
    Questions have is
For SSL and Profile Manager to work properly as well as Certificates do you require to purchase a proper SSL Certificate or can we use the OD Master Certificate that gets created. All we are testing is on the Local LAN so don't want to get a SSL certificate from the internet.
Also why cannot 10.7 clients trust profile and enroll Devices Properly? How do I get this working properly?
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Shane

Not sure if its that as finally got Lion Server working on a VM setup so network shouldn't be an issue...
Had 1 OSX Lion Server VM and 1 OSX Lion Client VM and OSX Lion Server VM gets profile and enrolls device fine but again OSX client doesn't get enroll just sits again at installing..... even if set keychain to trust and make trust profile verified..
any other ideas? I think need to somehow get the server to trust trust profile by default instead of going to keychain all the time.

Did you get this to work in an ESXI envrionment? If so, which version are you running?

  • Using Lion Server Radius for authenticating "other" clients

Hi I've been trying to get the Radius service in Lion Server to authenticate users of my SQUID web proxy. I have followed the squid wiki's instructions to configure the squid server as a radius client and pass authentication requests to the Lion Server Radius (I hope). However I'm trying to configure and test the Lion Server Radius. As Lions Server Admin GUI for radius only lets to add Airport Basestations, I've been trying to dig around for what underlying config files to edit.  I have tried 2 methods of adding the client details to radius:
    1. By editing the /etc/raddb/client.conf, and adding/changing (for example):
    client localhost {
         secret     = mysecretpassphrase
    client 192.168.0.0/24 {
         secret              = mysecretpassphrase
         shortname       = local-lan-clients
and restarting squid. Nothing seems to get mentioned in the radius log file! So I'm not completely convinced that the Lion Radius took any notice of this!
    2. Instead of above, added the same client info using radiusconfig:
    $ sudo radiusconfig -addclient 192.168.0.0/24 local-lan-clients other <return>
    - then it prompts for the secret. With this command I notice the entry/event is recognised in the radius log file, and also looks like some SQL activity. If I dont specify "other" for the nas-type, it defaults to "Aiport Base Station" or similar.
OK, so forgetting about SQUID for a minute, I can't even get that far as I'm just trying to test the config using the "radclient" utility from the Lion Server and the squid server:
$ sudo radclient localhost auth mysecretpassphrase <return>
and... no response, just hangs, nothing in radius log either.
The Lion Firewall allows TCP and UDP requests into the Radius authentication port.
Any ideas what else I need to do? Scratching my head, I'm wondering if it is anything to do with SSL? e.g. do I need to make the authentication using the self-signed certificate that Open Directory has? I presume any Airport Base Stations added to radius will use this certificate to establish a secure connection for authentication.

The RADIUS server in OS X Server is a standard FreeRADIUS implementation with Apple's own custom GUI frontend for configuring it and which only allows adding AirPort base-stations. In Mountain Lion Server it is even limited to a specific configuration for the AirPort base-station.
However if you follow the normal command-line instructions and steps for configuring FreeRADIUS then it will be possible to add any type of RADIUS client.
While as far as I can see by manually configuring the FreeRADIUS server in OS X Server should enable you to do what you want, most people chose to configure Squid to use either a PAM or the LDAP modules for Squid to in this case authenticate directly to Open Directory (which is of course based on LDAP).
I myself have used a PAM in the past with Squid to successfully configure Squid to authenticate users via Open Directory. I was even able to specific an Open Directory group and only allow members of that group access via the Squid Proxy Server. I then went a bit OTT and set up another open-source tool (which was discontinued and I had to fix to get working) to process the Squid logs and store them in MySQL, and then setup FileMaker Pro to connect to the MySQL database via ODBC to allow producing reports.
Unfortunately the AFP458 website had a major redesign a while ago and many previous technical articles on it are now hard to find. I had used two articles on that site to guide me through setting up Squid and the PAM on a Mac server. I believe the two articles I used are the ones listed below.

  • Lion Server not reading Active Directory Groups reliably

I am trying to upgrade one of our XServes from Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server and am running into a strange issue with our Active Directory based users and Groups.
The current Snow Leopard Server serving files from a XSan volume is running fine, though we find a very long Lag time for Windows users to connect. Once a few users have connected the lag seems to go away, but it is still not nearly as fast as Mac users connecting or Windows connecting to a PC server.
So I have connected a second Xserve to the SAN and performed a clean install of Lion Server. Initially while it would find my Active Directory Groups it would not import any of the users, so obvioulsly no one could connect. In a last ditch effort I installed the beta of 10.7.4, which seemed to resolve the issue for a small group of test users. However as I expanded the test I found that some users would get a message that the were no resources available to them, or they didn't have the correct permissions. This is very strange as everyone is in the same group so should have the same permissions. As a test I took one of the user accounts and created a new share and gave him R/W permission to that share and suddenly all of the shares that he should have had permission to in the first place popped up.
The only thing that I can think of is that we have such a large Active Directory structure that the authentication is timing out or reaching some user limit and stops looking. (we have over 50,000 users and thousands of groups spread through multiple OUs in the AD structure)
The new Server.app in Lion looks nice, but it does not seem to have nearly the robustness of the previous Server Admin tools. For instance, I never needed or wanted to setup a "Golden Triangle" but with Lion it is required. Perviously I could search for AD users or groups and drag them from the search window to the share to assign permission, now even though I've imported the groups and users it needs to search the entire directory when assigning permissions - why can't it see the groups that are already there? Why can I run a dscl search and find a user or group instantly, but the Server.app hangs for 5 minutes and shows 0 results?
Has anyone found a way to make Lion Server work in an enterprise environment?

Yesterday morning I bound a 10.7.4 server to our AD, and in the afternoon I eventually saw all the AD users, groups, etc show in Workgroup Manager. Now, with dscl, I can see all the AD user and group records, and with Workgroup Manager, I can search the groups, users, and computers, but with the Server.app, when trying to create new group of the type "Imported group from another directory", the searches returned nothing. Directory Utility can show all the AD information also. Our AD has thousands of user record, and so it is reasonable that it may take some time for the Mac server to get all the info. But from the add users or groups interface, I just could not get any search results. What could be wrong then?

  • Lion Server - Home Folder Sync Not Working - HELP

I have a lion server set up on a mac mini.
I have set up an OD to manage network accounts through the server app.  My workflow for setting up users is:
    1.     using the server app add a new user
    2.     I have a home folders users directory set up under file sharing and set to be available for home directories - so I select this share as the home folder for the user
    3.     I user the WGM app to then set up mobiility through the preferences tab to create always and to sync the home and preferences
    4.     I check that the home folder is set correctly under the user account in WGM
When I log in to the client machine (regardless of whether or not I have first logged in on the server or not) the client presents an error saying that it can not log in and can not access the server at that time.  The client stays on the user login screen.
If I then change the users home folder on the server to local I can then log in on the client machine and create the account.  If I elect not to create the home folder on the client machine the rainbow ball of death occurs and the machine hangs.  So I instead log in and select to create the local home folder.
I then log out of the user and change the user setting on the server to point the home folder to the correct share instead of on the local setting.
I then log back on to the client machine and can log in without any problems.  HOwever, I get an error message if I try to sync saying that the home folder is not accessible.  This is despite the fact that the home folder, and the server et al, can be mounted in finder and I can copy and paste documents etc to and from the server.  I have full and expected access to the server and the associated storage.
For some reason home sync continues to say that the home folder can not be found (in fact that the server can not be found) whenever I try to sync.
This is driving me bananas.  I have tried so many permutations that I have lost count of the things that I have tried.
    Is this a permission issue?
I have the OD bound to the client machine and have no problems seeing the users and being able to access the OD from the client machine.
Does any one have any thoughts at the issues I should be looking at or which logs may be helpful in trying to understand what is going on?

    Jonathon.
The dscl command just leads to a "Data source (LAPDv3.server.tnichapman.private) is not valid" statement.
I logged on using my local client admin account.
I had a search through console.
The only error associated with slapconfig was:

  • Where's the Mountain Lion Server Documentation?

Been waiting all day for Mountain Lion Server Documentation the be posted to no avail. What gives? Especially need the Mountain Lion Server Upgrading & Migrating manual. I help run a small educational cmoputer center in Santa Cruz CA and we need to transition from 10.5 Leopard Server on an old G5 Power Mac to 10.8 Mountain Lion Server on a new 2012 Mac mini as soon as it goes on sale. We particularly need the Workgroup Manager migration app documentation ASAP. Can any Apple employees explain why the Mountain Lion server documentation is not posted even though you can download the Mountain Lion Server since this morning?

Good Luck in Migrating from 10.5 Server to 10.8 Server... There's soo  many  changes..  Each time I've upgraded since 10.2.X server, I've always had to manual migrate things. Forget the automated upgraded process since it always hangs for me.
As for 10.6.8 Server, Apple changed the imap/pop server software from cyrus to dovecot. There's a script if I recall somewhere in 10.6.8 Server convert the imap mail of all the users.  However before you run that script I recommend that you rebuild the imap structure in cyrus before you do...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3120
as for mirgrating OD user.... archive the users...
    and import it...

  • Lion server - profilermanager mydevices login

Trying to get profile stuff working.
I have mac mini running lion server
I created a couple of network accounts.
When one of those users goes to the mydevices page (http://<servername>/mydevices) to enroll a device, I get a login prompt. This always fail with invalid username or password. Currently, only my admin account can logged in.
mac mini server is running open directory server of course since that is required for profile manager.
    thanks!

It is buried at the bottom of the list on the front page, I found it by looking for 'server' in the search box, or I wouldn't even know it existed
    Regards,
    Colin R.
PS I assume that is where all the experts are hanging out.

  • OS X Server hang after upgrade

Hi, I upgraded my OS X Server to 3.0.3. Now it just hangs when it updates the services under the initial "Server is being updated on this mac" process. It happens every time I start over. How do I fix this?
See screenshot below. Running Mac OS X 10.9.2

This is the way it's always been.
Server app was never compatible between releases. Lion, Mountain Lion each had their own version.
Lion cost money, Lion Server App cost money
Mountain Lion cost money, OS X Server 2 (Mountain Lion) cost money
Mavericks is free to upgrade to, OS X Server 3 (Mavericks) costs money
NB. If it's an iTunes Store issue, just buy it and ask for a refund when they fix the issue. But i doubt it's an issue.

  • Is SSL and multiple websites possible with Lion Server?

this is the obligatory apology from a nub here....
I have not been a sys admin since the days of NT 4.0.
I like to think that "hey, i might need a touch up here and there, but I think I can find my way around..."  Wrong.
I have been searching, and reading and searching and reading, and trying everything I can think of..  and I CAN NOT figure out how to get mutliple websites working with Lion Server, using self signed certs 1 for each of my subdomains.
Has anyone, anywhere (thank you google for returning searches to me from 2004?!?!  More puzzled confusion....)  posted a step by step guide yet???
I have a mac mini, and I have two domain names that are resolving to my exterinal interface on my router just fine, and I have tried what I thought was
every different possible combination of voodoo, magic, 00000...MoreTestingNeeded.conf, and all the other tricks.
Is it possible to get ssl and multiple websites working with one IP address?
    Thanks...

Thank you very much for your time and input.  My birthday was fantastic! Thanks for asking.
I found out about SNI while researching an error I was getting in the log.  I really never found any definitive "this is what you need to do", so I was going to get back to it later.
You probably know this, but Lion Server breaks out all of the virtual hosts into seperate documents in the "sites" directory.   All I do is I launch the server.app, and in the web component, I enter the name of the website that I want to resolve to my server, and I give it the path to the docs.  Thats it.  There is no DNS configuration to speak of, on my part, and I don't believe that its necessary (?) to touch the httpd.conf file at this point yet either, even though I think I hear others saying you do.  (I have no issues with getting into the file and making any changes, I just thought it was interesting.)
I am still trying to figure out how a user is supposed to add any other types of services LIKE ftp, etc.  I know and use the server admin tools, but I have found that the app really does do its job in terms of creating all the dns records for resolving the sites you create.  I sure hope its not just using the host file, is it? I never see any additional files in the DNS manager, for any of the subdomains.  Where are they?
Here is the contents of what appears to be the first file read, that is for SSL enabled sites:
    ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
    This is "0000_any_443.conf:"
    `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

    So..  my questions are:
Where in the .confs do I add what I need from your above items?  Would it go each of the site docs that I need?  I am really not sure what apple is doing here.
I have 4 domain names resolving to my server right now, and subdomains to each of the domains.  So there are a total of about 10 "site" docs, not a big deal to change each, I just wonder if Lion overwrites these docs with each refresh or what? Also, If I try to add a third .com right now it breaks the whole site.
(Out of conversation, but I just remembered this.  I just had to "quit" out of the server.app.)  When installing the directory server,  it hangs on "getting certificates". The spinning wheel (not the rainbow collered one, but the black one by the words "Getting Certificates") just sits there and spins.  I finally just hit the red X and relaunch server.
Lastly, you meniton importing the key.  I am using the key manager within the server app.  I am not sure where and how I would make the cert and key you are referring to for the importing?  I have tried to use the key manager in the OS, but I am not sure of the relationship between that key manager app, and the key manager within the server.app.  I have tried to create certs in the keymanager in the OS side, but I do not know how to get them to show up for use in the keymanager in the server.app.
BTW: Thanks.   Thanks for the help.  I really appreciate it.

  • Can I install Lion Server using ARD?

I've got a 2008 xserve I'd like to update to Lion Server (from 10.6.8 server). Can I successfully install it using ARD or is it going to hang at some point without ARD access waiting for some kind of input to proceed with the installation?
    Thanks
    Eric

Yes. You need to buy Leon and Server via AppStore. Think twice before click [buy app]... read posts on this group.

  • 48 hours with Lion Server

I upgraded Snow Leopard 10.6.7 to Lion Server just under 48 hours ago..... I have now transferred all my data to the backup Snow Leopard server and and working out how to recover the production server to the previous opearting system.  Some observations:
    - VirtualHosts - whilst a fix has been found to make these work the system is extremely unstable.  I kept having endless permission problems and the virtual websites could not be accessed.  In the end all the websites went down including the primary domain - and the server webpage could only be accessed via the server IP address on the LAN
    - Webmail - great new interface.  But again endless virtual host routing problems meant it couldn't be accessed.  You can get to the webmail log in page but then an error kept coming that it couldnt connect to IMAP server - another permissioning problem I guess
    - Mail - although not much seems to have changed in the mail back end the SMTP and POP server became very unreliable.  incoming mail was being occasionally lost for no reason.  No log reference....nothing.  No delivery errors.  Continual reboots and stopping and starting the mail service would restore operation for a while
    - Wordpress - MySQL continued to work and after some tweaking the system worked.  However permalinks all failed and I could not find a way to edit the apache configuration files to allow server overwites.  The required htaccess files seem to be missing?
    - Server app - Hopeless.  continually hangs and I suspect is the root of many of the problems I have had.  It seems to be very unstable at writing the various apache, Dovecot etc configuration files.
So although the server does fairly few tasks (virtual hosting, Wordpress, mail for virtual hosts, webmail, POP and SMTP services) - I could get NONE of them to operate in a stable fashion.  Compared to 10.6,7 which has worked perfectly - after some fiddling when I first set up Snow Leopard server on my MacMini - 12m+ ago.
I didn't get round to even trying to get the additional iPad and iPhone integration features - the key attraction of Lion.  The basics just dont seem to work!

Not too hard to fix the Permalinks problem.
    1. Go to  /etc/apache2/sites/
    2. Open the .conf for the specific site.  If you're just running off the default, it will be 0000_any_80_.conf or something like that.
    3. Switch AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All
    4. Save
    5. Fire up Terminal.  type "sudo apachectl restart"
That did the trick for me!
I sure do hope they get the server program to be a little more extensible.  No MySQL?  Spending a lot of time digging around apache files, which I'm used to, but I hoped the Server app would help avoid the hassle!
