Lion Server Podcast does not want to remain turned off.

I have all the current patches installed and from the beginning, Podcast, when looked at in the "server" app always shows as on. I can turn it off but then in a few seconds it turns itself back on.
I have never configured Podcast for anything, even in the Server Admin tools. In server admin tools it shows as off. I can see changes in amount of memory in use when turning it off and watching it come on. I have not looked through the activity monitor and all the logs are showing is that it was turned off then back on
ideas????

Charge it with a wall charger for 15 minutes, then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds.

  • Lion Server Podcast / Videocast not playing back on iOS devices

Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum. This is a repost.
    Hello everyone!
I work at a small school that relies heavily on Apple desktops and servers. Apple computers have saved us a lot of headaches. We do a lot of language instructions for students using the podcast functions built-in the server Podcast Producer. Apple servers were always trusted to deliver service under pressure, but this time it looks like a few "bad apples" got through the Apple golden gates.
It looks like the Lion Server has come on-line without in-depth beta testing for 10.7.0 and 10.7.1 hasn't solved some issues as of today. Right after Lion 10.7 was released, we reported to Apple that after a podcast or videocast is created and transferred to theLion Server via the Podcast Publisher software and then when an iOS deviceaccesses a podcast or videocast by clicking on the "Podcast" icon onthe "Welcome to MAC OS X Lion Server" page, iOS devices can't playback the media! Did anyone test this before releasing Lion 10.7.0 and 10.7.1?
We got a report back from Apple stating that they have tested and were able to reproduces this issue. OK, how  did this get by them? Also, when the "Welcome to MAC OS X Lion Server" page is viewed on an iOS device, the icon for "Podcast" isn't displayed! Now, how did this get by beta testers? Once again techs at  Apple were able to reproduce this on their side! Too add, media couldn't beplayed back using Firefox 5.0.1, IE or Chrome. Wouldn't a beta tester think that something was wrong?
The 10.7.1 update hasn't corrected these issues and this maybe because it's not a priority for Apple. Do education institutions that rely on Apple products get priority?
Anyway, I hope the next time Apple allows educational institutions to test a "live" working setup before releasing a major release or update. The issues above should have been caught in the beta test.
Apple still has products that are reliable, but the Lion release needs more taming.
Wish everyone the best in taming this, so far, wild Lion.

    Hello Newtron40!
Thank you for replying to my post. I see you are very muchin the same situation as I am. We get the same error on our Mac Mini Server aswell. I hope Apple understands that a lot of educational institutions relyheavily on their client and server solutions. I hope Apple takes the time towork closely with the educators to help them integrate Apple software andhardware.
It maybe true that Apple stretched their resources to makethe deadline for the Lion release. It feels like some things were neglected tothe point that somewhere someone became blind of the bugs that got through thegates. I still find it hard to believe that the issues we are both having were somehownot discovered in beta testing. Did anyone check to see, if at least, Apple’sown iOS devices would work properly with Lion? I know if I were a beta testerfor Apple, I would have discovered this issue very quickly.
Maybe this is a case where Apple engineers aren’t aware ofwhat “real world customers” use or need. Maybe Apple needs “real world” customersto assist in the beta testing and reporting? Would that be too difficult to do?I hope this is not a situation where the Emperor is the only one who can seehis clothes. Things that make you go “hmmmmmmmmmmmm”.
The QuickTime streaming media server in Snow Leopard workedvery well and our instructors relied on it heavily. So far we have over 5TB ofdata from our instructors to use on our small server! Students were able toconnect to our little silver box and learn something and this helped build astronger community for us. Now, we are running scared because of the problemswe are currently having with Lion. It’s great Apple is being innovative, but itlooks like the customers have turned into the sacrificial lamb for Lion.
We do have an external drive for media and use ServerAdmin to set media location. I think the Server.App and Server Admin should beone GUI. Knowing that Apple’s own engineers know about these issues are theygoing to fix them in the next release? Who knows?
Anyway, Apple still has great solutions and they need tofind a solution for the simplest of problems we are having with the Lion server software.
    PS: Anyone at Apple listening?

  • Lion server installer does not finish

I installed Lion Server from the App store, and it says that it installed successfully, but when I click the Finish button, nothing happens. About This Mac shows Lion 10.7.2, not Lion Server 10.7.2.
Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

At this point the problem seems to be that the DNS records are bollixed up. I have my domain name server through Zoneedit, and their servers are showing my IP address as 24.xxx.xx.xxx, which is correct. When I do lookup for tehart.net I get an address of 73.xx.xxx.xxx, which is wrong. The lookup for www.tehart.net shows this:
    www.tehart.net.
    10800
    IN
    SOA
    www.tehart.net. admin.www.tehart.net. 2011122701 86400 3600 604800 10800
    www.tehart.net.
    10800
    IN
    NS
    www.tehart.net.
    www.tehart.net.
    10800
    IN
    A
    10.0.1.3
The forwarded address should be 10.0.1.4. I've got no idea how to fix this, and the Apple instructions insist on modifying DNS records, without supplying decent examples of how they should look.
I don't know if this is causing the problem, but if you've got any idea, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • I am having difficulty updating my iphone apps. Living in Bermuda it keeps wanting to default to the Bermuda store, which does not exist. I turned off the location services which appears to solve this problem, but I use this function a lot so do not want

I am having difficulty updating my iphone apps. Living in Bermuda it wants to default to a nonexistant Bermuda app store. I solved by turning off the location finder, but this is a function I use and need, and dont want the hassle of constantly switching back and forth. Is there a simple solution

I agree. I don't rely on iCloud as a backup, that is what I have my portable hard drive for. Its 500 GB so I can hold my entire iTunes library several times over on it. I have all my movies on my hard drive, but somehow "The Mist" got deleted off of my hard drive, so I figured "Well, the option to redownload an already purchased movie is available through iCloud, I'll just do that!"
And permissions and download availability have nothing to do with it, the movie's still there, it still allows me to redownload it. The only problem is when I click download, I get that message.
And nobody else uses my computer, but I do have multiple accounts authorized on it. Even still though, I am attepmpting to download it through the account I purchased it under. :/

  • My new ipod nano does not  work when you turn off the computer

I bought a new iPod but I have a problem when you turn off the computer does not work. Shows that the battery is full and it was lightning. Ipod only works while connected to your computer. What should I do

    Hello pepi95,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you just bought the nano, why not bring it back for a replacement or your money back? It's definitely a defective iPod. Not much else for options here. Sorry.

  • Is there a way to go back to previous version of software as I don't like vers 1.1. Restoring it does not work and it turns off all the time after around 10 secs

Is there any way to go back to prvious version  of software befoe 1.1 on ipod nano 6th generation. After update it switches off all the time after about 10 secs and I preferred it when I could listen to songs when in sleep mode without using too much battery power

    Peter,
That was the problem. They were there, just not properly linked.  I used the one I completed in CS6 trial version (after preflight). When I exported that one and opened it in CS5 all was good.   I think I will make the upgrade as soon as I can afford it, but at least now I can make the system work for my needs. Thank you for your help!

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

Under what circumstances does mail "not leave the mails on the server"?
If you mean that you delete them (or move them out of the inbox) on one device and then find them not in the inbox on the server when you look from another device, that's how IMAP is supposed to work. (Note that the deletion or moving might be the result of rules you have set up in Mail.)
If you mean something else, please explain your issue in more detail.

    HELP HELP

To confirm, your existing mail client isn't communicating with your existing and remote mail services at Dreamhost? Which mail client are you using (Apple mail?), and how is mail on the client set up?
It would initially seem that your client is still referencing the server, either for its inbound or outbound mail. (And I'm not sure how unplugging the server helps here, unless there's some sort of a configuration issue, or a duplicate network address or such.) This would usually be something within the configuration of the mail client.
The Mac OS X Server is significantly easier than the many other servers and server operating systems I've dealt with over the years, but it requires reading the manuals and/or some knowledge of networking and of server environments.
Small shops and home folks without the time or inclination to "spin up" on these server areas can be well-served with some help initially configuring the server. Servers are different from clients. Stuff that you're implicitly used to using when you're running a client -- the DHCP server, for instance -- are what the servers provide you with.
As for Mac OS X Server and particularly if you head outside of the default settings and sequences and off into the customizations, which is what has happened here, you might want to engage some assistance. Not just for the direct and obvious initial set-up sequence, but also for getting you set-up and started with backups and other such tasks. Before you get too deep in here and get too much underway and too much saved on your disks, do seriously consider getting somebody in to help set this box up for you.
Mac OS X Server is not "no IT", but it is rather closer to "less IT" than most. Particularly once you get it configured and running.

  • System keeps looking for a 'server' that does not exist. Is says the old name of my Airport Extreme. Clicking it away (4x) it gets through.

System keeps looking for a 'server' that does not exist. Is says the old name of my Airport Extreme. Clicking it away (4x) finally  gets through.

Other weirdness to report: my neighbor upstairs appears to have a Linksys router network on channel 6. My AEBS is on channel 1 so there shouldn't be interference... but according to iStumbler sometimes the signal leaps to 64000 (keep in mind my own Airport never tops 60)! Is that potentially the problem?
Might it be possible that your neighbor just acquired a 802.11n (pre-N) wireless router recently?
802.11n effectively increases capacity by doubling the number of Wi-Fi radios and increasing the number of antennas used to push signals out of those radios. 802.11n splits a data frame into multiple pieces. It then transmits these pieces in parallel using multiple radios that are attached to multiple antennas. These antennas blast out signals from virtually the same vantage point – scattering the signals everywhere.
You may find the following ZDNet article interesting: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=247
Even if he did not, and you are on good terms, you might want to ask if he can temporarily turn off his wireless, or, at least, reduce the signal strength to see if that will help in your situation.

  • Have to restart Lion server every time I want to access it remotely

    L.S.,
My Mac Mini Server (10.7.3) is colocated at a data center.
At this point I have to restart Lion server every time I want to access it remotely for screen sharing over the internet.
I can make the connection, so all the right ports are open, as the port scan also shows, but it just times out when I wish to connect again within the same server without rebooting.
I bought Apple Remote Desktop but that doesn't help either. I can still connect through AFP, web and VPN.
I do hope that someone can give me some more insight in this problem.
Rebooting isn't a problem by the way...
    UPDATE:
If I keep the session active overnight, there is no problem whatsoever, but when I log off as a "good practice", which I've learned using Windows, screen sharing will not work any longer. Forgetting about logging off seems to be a viable workaround at this point .
