Lion shutdown Hang

My Mac OSX Lion always hang up during the shutdown after using iTunes?

Same problem on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15-inch, OS X Lion 10.7.3 and iTunes 10.5.3.

As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...

  • Lion boot hangs at point logon prompt should appear

Lion boot hangs at point logon prompt should appear.  Unresponsive to mouse or keyboard. Mac mini 2007.  Touching power button briefly puts machine to sleep. Hitting key or wiggling mouse then wakes machine and logon proceeds normally. Has happened every time Lion has booted. Never had problems with SL. Fix needed!
    TIA,
    --Beman

Same issue here, not always but after entering logon password it will hang with the spinning icon. I have to power off then reboot.
    Only since Lion upgrade!

  • Shutdown hangs up on my Qosmio

HELP--Not exactly computer illiterate but no guru either.
Shutdown hangs up on my computer. I get the following messages after I hit "shutdown"
    Nvidia TwinWindow View end now
    TouchEd Window end now
    Config Free end now
    Toshiba Raid console end now
    tfswctrl.exe end now
By the time I click on "end now" for each of this and get to the last prompt, the computer hangs there forever and I have to shutdown with the off button. This just started.
    Help please!
    Thanks :)

Obviously those listed running processes can not be ended as usual. Like Joao already posted, try to use system restore tool and roll back the operating system to created system restore point. Use data before it starts. I hope everything will be as before.

  • Lion 10.7 shutdown hangs

Is anyone else having shutdown problems with Lion. My IMac looks like its going to shutdown correctly but then just hangs. The ony way to shut it down is to press the power key until it switches off. I have tried closing down all apps before shutdown, but it seem to make no difference.

While I understand the frustration of things not working properly, you seem to be grasping at straws in trying to aportion blame.

The Apple guy I spoke to said that there is no fix in Lion 10.7.3 for the OS not shutting down properly.
On the contrary. If it were known that there was a bug in 10.7.3 after it was released, the fix is to upgrade to 10.7.4.
    NextCoves wrote:
it's somewhat typical of Apple to blame the user rather than admit the product has a fault, as much as I like their stuff.
You have yourself said the problem was with the disk. So it's a hardware fault, not a software fault. Why would they say the software has a problem when the issue is to do with hardware?
TBH, if it's not a hardware fault, its a software conflict with something you've intstalled. I did beta testing of Lion 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 (admittedly not .3) and all these kinds of issues boiled down to conflicts with third party vendor s/w, probably in your login items, launchagents or launchdaemons folders.

  • Lion shutdown problems

Sometimes it shutdowns properly and sometimes not. A lot of changes appeared after I started using AppleScript, Textmate, Little Snitch, FreeMemory and TinyExpander.....any guess who can be the culprit ?
Also a few days ago it was hanging sometimes or getting very slow at times. So I did a Google search and followed some instructions given. It was sometihing like deleting some files that I've no idea, probably something like plist document.Overall I don't have any idea what's causing it.
    Somebody please help me. Thanks

You should be more specific, I've never had a shutdown problem and would attribute that to hardware not software.
If I were you I would wait for an update to Lion for a fix, not a brand new operating system that has potential unforeseen bugs in it.
But you can do what you please, although I don't think you will get what you want if that is all you're looking for.
Sometimes an update or a reinstall of Lion will fix issues for free. Try posting your specific issue in the Lion section and see who bites. You may also want to try making an appointment at your local apple store or calling 1800 apl care.

  • Help, Lion keeps hanging

hi everyone, lately over the last week or two OSX Lion has been strating to hang anf i get the spinning wheel condtsntly, i doubt i have a virus as i checked my system with kapsrski, i am now starting to get frustrated with it, i am fully upto date with everyting,
i am using a mac book pro 2011 bought only in april, can anyone help

I'm was running a MBP early 2011 with and i7 processor, with the original 4 gigs installed. I had all of the problems everyone else is describing with laggyness and long boots and shut downs. Did everything that has been amply documented in these dicussions searching on "slow Lion." I had incremental improvements in performance, but was less than satisfied.
My problems were solved when I installed 8 gigs of memory. The only lag I have  experienced since is Mail on boot up. I seems to take an additional 30 seconds to become responsive. I typically run 6-8 desktops with 9-10 apps running and can switch between desktops and apps instantaneously. TIme to complete shutdown, 45-60 seconds. Boot up, 120 seconds to login screen and 60 seconds to all the apps up and responsive (except mail)
It is kind of wishful thinking to list minimum specs of Lion as 2 gigs of RAM. Even 4 gigs is taxing the limits of the system. With the above configuration and software deployment, I'm using about 6.5 gigs of RAM as reported by Activity Monitor.
Do yourself a favor if you like Lion and install the additional memory.

  • My lion is hang

Hi everybody, for few months I didnt habe used my macbook with lion on it due to charger problem. yesterday I bought the new adapter and turn on my mac. First It was like I see turning of wheel and then came long strip underneath. Then I start it again. The windows came there for login with different user. I unfortunately forgot my pw and I choose another user. I could get to utility windows and turn of pw. option. Since then I can't access my whole system of Lion. It was in the night and I am not sure what I really did. Now in the utility of mac book I can either repair the system- HD nor I can work with lion- I even cant prepare recovery Flash Drive or DVD. I am sure there must be right solutions regarding this kind of case.
Thanking all of you in advance.

Open Console.app by clicking on Spotlight in the top-right of the screen and typing 'Console', then press 'return.
Look in the sidebar under 'FILES' for 'System Log' and click on it.
Click the 'Clear Display' icon in the taskbar, and then 'Insert Marker'. Make a note of the time on the marker.
Press the power button once to display the shutdown window. Make sure 'Reopen Windows when logging back in' is selected. Shutdown the computer (not 'Restart').
When the computer is off, press the power button again and log in. The Console window should be at the front of your screen. Skim through the messages and look for any obvious hangs or repeated messages.

  • OS X Lion Server hangs on install ("authenticating")

I'm trying to update my headless/keyboardless/mouseless Mac Mini Server (mid-2010) running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server. I've been able to download Server.app from the App Store without problem, but when I run it, it asks for my admin password and hangs at the "Configuring Services" dialog with an "Authenticating" message in the bottom left corner. It appears to be hanging at this authentication bit.
    WHAT I DID
    Installed Lion.
Downloaded Lion Server from App Store.
    Launched Server.app.
    WHAT I EXPECTED
    Lion Server to install.
    WHAT HAPPENED
Hangs at "Configuring Services" dialog with an "Authenticating" message in bottom left corner.
Eventually times out with a "The request timed out" error message.
    Help?

I had the same ""The request timed out" error message", with Mac mini server 2010 version.
I'm going to crazy for this strange bug.
It still can login OS succesfully, but the server app seemed something wrong on my system.
(Now, I can't login the Server even the correct password is entried)
You can see the Server app is not "INSTALLED" situation from the following photo.
but when I click "INSTALL" server app,
It didn't have any help if I choose Software Update frim Apple menu.
So I tried to delete the server app, the click "INSTALL" again,
    such texts shown,
Since both Lion & Lion Server already purchased on 19 July,
I just click "Buy Both",  I remembered it seemed both apps begin re-download,
but the Server app still not work, can't login anymore(my password unrecognized),
still "not INSTALLED" on Mac app store Purchase record,
Then I got another receipt from Apple, the purchase became double-counted.
After reporting the problem to Apple, refund was done.
But My Server.app was still in a very strange situation.....
I only tried re-install server.app but without whole system re-install in the above case,
maybe I will try to click "Buy Both" again,
try to Re-install the whole system later to see if the bug disappears.

  • Firefox 18 on Mountain Lion frequently hangs with spinning ball for 1 min while a page is loading, or while opening a new tab. No tabs useable

Firefox 18 on Mountain Lion. Frequently hangs for minutes with spinning ball, usually while a page is loading (status bar says "loading..." "waiting..."), but sometimes just while on the same page. Other tabs and windows are not useable, even though only one tab is waiting. I usually have 2-4 windows open with several tabs each. Behavior is no different in safe mode. This is making the browser unusable.
In the past this happened and I've reinstalled or created a new clean profile, but it always recurs.

  • Why is my Mountain Lion download hanging after 53 MB

I am trying to download Mountain Lion from the AppStore and am unable to complete the download.  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 with OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).  I have done the partial download multiple times, trying to pause and resume as well as canceling and purchasing the app store item again.  I have tried downloading while in Safe Mode.  Each time the download runs fine up to the point where it reaches 53.25 MB and then it hangs.  At that point it is frozen and doesn't  restart  no matter what I do. Does anybody have a similar problem?  Does anybody have a solution?

Hi, I posted this reply on a similar discussion - this solved it for me...
I was also getting stuck at 53.25mb and tried several solutions on the forum.
A possible reason I have found is if you are (as I am) on BT Broadband using a 2-Wire Hub because there is apparently a 2GB download limit (not heard this of this before). I read this on MacRumors and that BT plan to release a firmware upgrade to sort the problem.
In the meantime I switched to another non-BT wireless network in the same building and hey presto the download is flying.
Haven't tried the hotspot shield solution.

  • Applications won't launch, shutdown hangs

    Hi All,
I've seen posts with similar symptoms to mine, but none with a fix:
Everything was running fine, then all of a sudden applications refused to launch. First it was System Preferences, then Console.app, then SubEthaEdit - nothing could be launched any more. Running applications worked fine, so at least I was able to save my work and shut all apps down.
I had a Terminal.app running and was able to have a look at which processes were running, etc. but couldn't see anything that looked like a rogue process or anything which was hogging resources.
Next, I tried to HUP the Dock, but it went and didn't come back.
I then tried to log out. Everything was closed, but the background remained and the system did not log out.
The only button that still worked was the power button - it brought up the restart / shutdown menu fine. But when I selected either restart or shutdown, nothing happened. The mouse was working fine also BTW. I also noticed that while I was able to change the volume with the usual keys, the see-through icons didn't appear - only the 'ping' sound was made.
The system came up fine, and everything appears to be working at the moment - no problems launching apps etc.
I checked the Console and didn't see anything particularly out of the ordinary. I saw spindump entries for all the apps I'd tried to launch, but which didn't (they were added to the Dock, but without the 'active' dot underneath them, and I was able to context-click and Force Quit them from the Dock). I also saw hang logs for each app corresponding to the time when they wouldn't launch.
The only slightly weird thing that happened before all the crazy madness was that my AirPort connection suddenly went wobbly. It lost its connection all together and it took a while for me to convince it to come back online. The AirPort Utility didn't show either base station reporting any problems (I have a TimeCapsule as the main base station and an AirPort Express extending that network out to the office). The system was trying to perform a backup at the time - not sure if that's what was causing the weirdness.
Next time it happens, I might try HUPping the window server or something to see what happens then. Of course, I'm hoping it doesn't happen again
Any hints / tips / experiences / etc more than welcome
    Cheers,
    C

I have now added back all the items which were in my original Logins List except for "Spark Daemon" (a shortcuts manager), which I no longer have on my system. Leopard appears to be running fine now. Perhaps populating the list again was all that was needed.

  • Lion Server hangs

I have a mini server that I updated to Lion Server and it seems like if someone is logged in, and then it goes into screen saver mode, then I can't log back into the machine.  It's pretty much hung.
I'm really thinking about reverting back to Snow Leopard Server.

I have exactly the same issue! Do you have the system on a RAID or just on one single internal disk?
We have a Lion Server on a Mac Mini, with the system on a Promise RAID.
It worked fine for 3 months. Then suddenly it started to when I restarted the machine, everything seemed fine. For 2 minutes, then whatever application you start hangs up and ballooning forever. SSH works fine, but we really need to get into the GUI.
Strangely enough, all services the Lion Server is providing works fine and our users don't notice anything.
Tried repair permissions, start in safe mode and Disk Warrior. Nothing. Also checked the log for something weid, but nothing.
    Anyone??

  • Lion Mail hangs, cannot be started after first MacBook shut down...

After installing Lion, Mail worked fine... Once, I shut down the computer, I have not been able to restart Mail in multiple attempts. Time and again, Mail is not responding and hangs consistently (see report below)... A Mail patch by Apple Computer is urgently needed!

By the way, the first step that I refer to should not be double click but right click:
    1. Right click the Finder Folder in the Dock (and a popup menu will appear)
Hope this works for you as it did for me!
Recommended not by me but successfully used by me, here are the steps again...
    1. Right click on Finder icon in the Dock
    2. Choose "Go to Folder" in the popup menu
    3. Type in ~Library
    4. Open the Mail folder(s) until you find the V2 folder
    5. As opposed to what was recommended, I deleted all files and folders inside the V2 folder
(After all, gmail and iMobile have my mail history and details on file anyway)
    6. Restarted MacBook to be sure
    7. Started Mail and added my iMobile and gmail accounts... From there the normal world presented itself!
Please, note below a more simpler solution suggested elsehwere (that I did not test myself)...
    1. Open Applications in a Finder window and scroll to Mail
    2. Right click on Mail then go to "Get Info" in the popup window
    3. Unlock the lock at the bottom of the window by clicking on it (it will ask you for your password)
    4. Go to "Access" and change it from "custom" to "read and write"
    5. Restart Mail and it should work
