Lion shuts down using 16GB of Memory!

I recently purchased 16GB of Corsair Memory (2x4 DDR3 1333MHz) on Amazon to prepare for Mac OS X Lion. When using Snow Leopard, my iMac had no issues addressing all 16GB. After installing Lion, my iMac is unable to operate longer than a few minutes before it shuts off. I've been doing quite an amount of research and I'm unable to find anyone w/ similar issues. Is this normal when upgrading to a new OS?

I have read several postings about people who have added more RAM (16GB) and had issues because the RAM modules were not all from the same OEM. The postings also stated that when upgrading to anything lower than 16GB with different OEM's didn't seem to be an issue. The solution would be (if you want 16GB of RAM) to install 4 x 4GB RAM from a reputable company like Corsair or Crucial. Just make sure you buy them all from the same OEM. I hope that helps!

  • HI .. I have a new macmini 2.5 Ghz 10.7.3 Lion, had a problem today ,it froze so I could not shut down using mouse or tablet. used the power switch, when I tried to restart I got audible 'beeps' from it.

HI ....I have a new macmini 2.5 Ghz 10.7.3 Lion, had a problem today ,it froze so I could not shut down using mouse or tablet pen. used the power switch, when I tried to restart I got audible 'beeps' from it. I managed to restart it but kept getting a message come up on one ot the dual screens ' restart using the power swich to turn it off , then press it again to restart.'
This worked okay , but now it just keeps freezing whenever I start it up. I thought the issue could be my old Epson Expression 1680 scanner not being compatible , so I have unplugged it. I also had a look at the new memory I installed when I got it, but this seems not be the problem.
It is connected up to an Eizo Flexscan S2231W using a cable straight into the HDMI input , the other monitor is a small Acer using the VGA into Thunderbolt port.
When I turn the Eizo screen on first and then press the power button on the mac-mini, I hear the chime then the screen flahes the 'Digital no signal' message on and off for about 30 seconds , then the monitor comes on as normal. But it is still freezing up on me after using it for a while and I am having to use the power switch button to turn it off again.
    Can anyone help please.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

  • Recently I tried adding disc menu to my project and an error occurs and system shuts down using pre9

Recently I tried adding disc menu to my project and an error occurs and system shuts down using pre elements 9 on mac how can this be repaired

From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180
•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 9 with the 9.0.1 update).
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
•Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
    And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Have you viewed the tutorial links at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1275830 page?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?

  • Phone crashes/shuts down using apps since I updated to iOS 5.1

I have an iPhone 3Gs 16GB running iOS 5.1.1 build 9B206.  (my daughter has one as well and is having the same issues.)
Since the upgrade to iOS 5 we have experienced the phone being shut down (crashes) while using them.  At first I thought it was due to low battery, but it does it at full charges as well.  It does it more specifically with apps that use a lot of memory (or refreshing of information online), such as maps, weather, facebook, etc.
Anyone else having this trouble?  Should I revert to an earlier iOS?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these steps in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Kernel Panic everytime MBP with Mountain Lion shuts down

    Hello,
My MBP (MBP 7,1, 2.4gHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 Ram, 500GB hard drive with Mountain Lion 10.8.2) recently started having kernel panics every time I shut down. It reboot twice and then show the "please report this to Apple" dialogue box followed by the "kernel dump" dialogue box. Is there anyway I can fix this?
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • After upgrading to lion, shut down window is appearing continually

    hi :
after i installed the lion osx upgrade, i had a problem , a big issue .
when i'm using the laptop , the shut down window is appearing continually. and after about 10 min the computer shutting down automatically .
i tried to reset the smc.
    but the issue still there.
i changed the hard disk and install the snow leopard osx.
i checked it again ,,,,,, nothing is happening .
so what could be the issue .??
by the way i did all software update after i finished installing my software's.
    regards

I have the same problem. I use the Windows 7 on bootcamp partition and there all good, but when I go to mac partition the shutdown menu appears when I stop using the keyboard or trackpad and after 10 seconds off.

  • Lion shutting down to black screen +

OK there are many problems - the first just started today Xmas day my imac bought almost exactly a year ago is shutting down to black screen after about 5 mins use - I had this mac repaired in November and got it back with a clean install of Lion 10.7.2 (cos I had already bought it) - I created a partition and installed Snow Leopard on the smaller partition
Mac and Lion were working really well until today when Lion just refuses to run for more than 5 mins without black screen crash
If i start in the Snow Leopard partition there are no problems whatsoever so Im wary about swapping out RAM and motherboard solutions ....
I repaired what I could using disk utility when Lion was up no problems reported before next black screen crash
However I tried to reboot into recovery disk and found it does not exist! I tried to mount a downloaded disk recovery utility which I got from Apple but it said something like disk recovery doesn't exist cannot create disk recovery
any thoughts folks I don't see this as a hardware prob otherwise why would my SN partition be working perfectly? I'm happy just to stick with SN but I like to keep up to date and Lion should be usable and better

No replies on this? I still have same problem and am confined to SL 10.6.4 I'm even wary of upgrading this to later SL versions because it is very stable

  • Lion shut down

I have been following some of the discussions re Lion not shutting down, and have the same problem for the past three months or so (never had a problem with it before - it just suddenly started with the grey screen and the icon turning and nothing further). So I have been doing a 'manual' shutdown since the problem started. I suddenly however also developed major problems with Parallels and Windows 7 - too numerous to begin to mention here - have to get on-site support (again!) for that whenever I have a day that I don't need my Mac. One of the problems however seems to be that whenever I have shut down my iMac the previous day after work and restarted it again the next morning, Parallels and Windows have stopped working altogether, and then it takes me day of reinstalling everything etc. So, I have essentially developed a mortal fear of shutting down my iMac.
Sorry, long sad story, but all I actually really want to know: how important is it to shut down the iMac? Can I keep it running until I have eventually sorted out all the Parallels and Windows problems, even if it may be a week or more? Or should it be shut down every now and then? I think you will gather than I am just a regular user, so sorry if the question seems a bit basic....

I leave my iMac running 24/7.  But you should be able to shut it down when necessary.  Have you tried repairing permissions and running a filesystem check?  Have you tried logging out first, then shutting down?  Repeated forced shut downs aren't such a great idea.  You may want to check in Activity Monitor and see if there's a hung process before shutting down.

  • Blue Box doesn't shut down on Win XP - HELP! HAve to shut down using Task Manager???

Is it really true that you must shut the Blue Box down using Task Manager on Windows XP operating system???
On Win 98/NT/2000 the you can shut the Blue Box down by double clicking the Blue Box and shut it down. When I check the Task Manager it really is shut down.
However, on Windows XP when I shut the Blue Box down in the same manner - it still resides in the Task manager. If I try to start the Blue Box again after shutting it down a popup window is displayed stating there is already an instance of Blue Box running.
Any help would be appreciated - we cannot open the Task Manager and terminate the NIFB.exe in our application.
    THANX!

It is a bug of NI-FBUS 2.3.6 version, please send e-mail to "[email protected]" for further information.
The next NI-FBUS 3.0 version would solve this problem as I know.

  • Mac OS Mountain Lion Shuts down at Apple logo with a progress bar appearing under it.

Last Night there were two updates available which i downloaded and after that it asked for a restart, when i restarted the Mac, it gave me a progress bar for the updates at the middle of which it said, Installation of Updates can not be Completed and My mac book froze. After that i Shutdown my Macbook Pro by holding the Shutdown button for a little while.
When i restarted the Macbook Pro, it gave remained at apple logo for a while then a progress bar appeared after which it shut down itself and it is doing the same since then.
I have got windows over Boot Camp in my Macbook Pro and i can boot into Windows which is running fine and i can access all the data on my Main Partition through Windows as well but i am unable to boot into Mac os Mountain Lion.
I have tried Repairing the Partition by going into Recovey and it Fails, I have tried Resetting the PRAM and that hasn't worked either, i have tried re-installing the Mac os Mountain Lion from Recovery but that says that all my Partitions are Locked.
I haven't got any backup of my data through Time Machine so i was thinking as i can boot into Windows and access the data and as all this is because of the Installation of Updates Failure so there should be some way to manually edit the Boot Files to trick the Mac book into thinking that there weren't any updates or to simply clear the data from Updates.
Can anyone please help me if you have any better suggestions.

If it's still under warranty or with AppleCare (even if it isn't, really) take it in to an Apple store.  If you can get at your personal files from Windows, copy them to an external drive first.  That includes anything you have in Windows that you need to keep.  Sounds like the drive is going south and if it has to be replaced, you'll lose everything if you don't have it backed up.

  • Firefox does not close/exit and must be shut down using task manager

When I "x" out of Firefox, or File menu "exit" or right click to "close," the Firefox window closes but whenever I attempt to restart Firefox, it says that it is already running (hence was never shut down) and I have to use Task Manager to "end process" before re-starting Firefox again. This dilemma only started after upgrading about 6 months ago (can't remember the version). I recently upgraded again but the problem still exists.

Did not address my issue. Firefox isn't freezing while it's up and running, it just doesn't completely shut down... therefore it's always running behind the scenes.

  • Macbook pro i7 experienced a hard freeze while I was using Traktor with it. Never seen before dialog box says to shut down using on/off button.

My Macbook Pro i7 dual core had a hard freeze halfway through my DJ set. At that moment, I had 'mixedinkey' opened on another page but it was not processing any files. The Traktor interface just froze for about 1-2 minutes with the usual rainbow ball spinning and I could not manouvre to another page. Suddenly, the music stop and an error dialog box which I have seen before appeared and say to shut down my Macbook using the on/off button. I did what was said, off the Macbook and on it again and it behaved normal after that. I also did a 'repair disk' with disk utility after that. Now, I am kind of worried it will happen again in the midst of my DJ sets because it is going to be embarassing. Does anybody out there know what actually happened? Is it my hard disk or is it a one time off thingy...any thoughts will be a great help.

  • My FW800 intermittently shuts down using the TB adapter.

When I use the Thunderbolt adapter to connect FW 800 drives to my new MacBook Pro, the drives shut down after a few minutes with a message that they have been improperly disconnected. I bought the computer about a month ago and have already had it computer checked and repaired (by Apple), but that the problem still exists. The drives do work properly when they are connected with USB 2.0 cables, but I need the USB ports for other peripherals and would like the additional speed of the FW 800.
I have read that the Thunderbolt adapter limits the power to 7W. Could this be the problem?
