Lion & Soundtrack Pro
If anyone is tracking such reports, after cautiously experimenting with Lion on my Macbook Pro I decided to take the leap and try to upgrade my Mac Pro. Right off the bat Soundtrack Pro did not work, specifically in that it didn't recognize my MOTU Traveler firewire mixer. But once I'd downloaded the latest drivers from MOTU everything was fine. Also, iZotope RX works, but the scrolling is kind of funky, with a huge lag. Noise reduction, though, which is the main thing I use with RX, seems to work fine.
These were quick and dirty tests -- hopefully the system won't poop out when I have to use it for some recording work next Tuesday, though I record on a backup stand-alone digital recorder so, whatever happens, it'll be OK...
Overall I quite like Lion and think it's an improvement over Snow Leopard. And I very much appreciate its more robust security features.
I've had issues fixing clicks and pops in soundtrack pro. I'm pretty sure this worked before the upgrade. Now it seems to actually add clicks and pops which is weird... Anybody else experiencing this?

Lion kills SoundTrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color
After installing Lion on my cloned boot drive FCP 7.0.3 runs but SoundTrack pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color return an error message indicating Lion can't run PowerPC programs. They also have a white slashed circle over them indicating they aren't compatible.
This wasn't a widely advertised restriction of Lion prior to its release.
I'm thankful I have a fully operating Snow Leopard installation.I don't know why you would have the PowerPC-only versions installed on an intel machine? It's very weird, because they should be Universal. This may mean that you were running those apps using Rosetta under Snow Leopard, but Rosetta isn't installed with Lion. You should just re-install from the FCS3 DVD and the proper Intel versions will be placed in your Applications folder.
I just launched every FCS3 app under Lion and they all work fine, except for Cinema Tools (which unexpectedly quit.) -
Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2 crashes continuously in Lion
I purchased a new iMac 27 with the 3.4 GHz i7 processor a few months ago and finally have a project where I'm using Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2 which was transfered over from my old iMac.
On the old iMac, STP2 would crash from time to time but it was relatively stable. On the new machine it seems that I can't do more than a couple edits without the machine crashing up. The Youhng W1 plug in and simply saving the file seem to be the worst offenders.
Any advice on what might be going on here? Not using the Youhng W1 plugin to avoid crashes is possible but not saving is not!All the pro apps should be installed from the Original disks. Migrating is NEVER advised.
Use Digital Rebellion's FCS remover to delete the app and start the install fresh.
That being said, STP v2 is very old and Apple has done nothing to make Mountain Lion backwardly compatible with ancient software.
What this means is - even with a clean install, it may be unstable.
Good luck.

Will Soundtrack Pro 1.1 work with Lion?
I've got Soundtrack Pro v. 1.1 (Came in FinalCut Studio 5.1) and I'm wondering if I upgrade to Lion will I still be able to use Soundtrack Pro with Lion?
Thanks,

Does Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1 work with Mountain Lion?
Hi there,
I purchased my iMac (Lion 2.7 GHz i5) and Logic Studio Pro 9 at the same time, everything installed fine but Soundtrack Pro did not open with Lion.
Since updated to Mountain Lion and obviously still not working.
Is there anything I can do to get this working as it might be usefull in the future?
Should I try reinstalling Soundtrack Pro or the full Logic Studio?
Many thanks,
Karl.karlitofingers wrote:
My STP seems to be working ok in Mountain lion yeah, although I've not actually used it properly yet, but it stays open at least. I think you're right about compressor aswell.
Do you know if I'll need compressor at some point after using soundtrack? Or are there other ways around it?
Karl.
hi Karl:
here's my follow up to your question "Do you know if I'll need compressor at some point after using soundtrack?" i'm not sure, since i don't really know what you'll be doing on your projects w/ LogicPro. but here's my suggestion which help you gain some insight.
go to support.apple.com/manuals/ ...find the .pdf manual for "Compressor 4" latest should be Jun2012. might be about 6MB. just read thru & see what features it does, & how certain steps can help you in your project. this ought to help you foresee if you'll need Compressor or just want it, in the future. Chap 12 seems to discussing Dolby digital professional outputs, Surrouand sound, & spatial mxing.
good luck,

Since Lion compressor and soundtrack pro have gone
Hi
Since I have installed Macos 1.7 (Lion) several programms have been removed from my HD: Compressor 3.5, Sountrack Pro and my favourite Quicktime 7. Do any of you have the same experience and do you know how to 'get these pgrms back?Hi Jonaz
I haven't heard stories so far of Lion completely removing apps. I heard that Lion analyzes which apps are not compatible with Lion any longer (e.g. because they are PowerPC apps and need Rosetta to run). If Lion finds any of those apps, it moves them into a folder called "Incompatible Software" (see here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3258)
If they are incompatible, they should be there. I don't know about SoundTrack Pro and don't have a Lion machine currently with both SoundTrack Pro or Compressor and Lion. But from what I heard on the internets, Compressor 3.5 should still work. I would try to re-install it from your installation DVDs. I can't think of any reason why they should not run under Lion.

While creating a project in Garage Band 09 my sample tracks were being cut short- I then discovered they had been overwritten in soundtrack pro.
Any ideas why? and how to get my tracks back?
I never opened soundtrack pro to edit the track just Garage band....the track just mysteriously saved as half the track.
I am running Lion and I upgraded my Garage band to '11 hoping it would resolve the issue...it didn't. Now I can't find that tracks at all.
The 2 songs having the issue are titled Exotic Yearning and Reunion.
I am in the process of reinstalling the audio content from my discs. I just don't want to run into this again.
Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! After spending some time reinstalling the soundtrack pro 3 content I opened the full track called Reunion.
It showed back up in Garage Band.*It was the full track and wasn't chopped off until I dragged it onto the project. Then it showed up chopped.
Then I closed Garaged band and opened soundtrack pro 3....The song was again chopped off at the 1:33min mark
Very Frusterated...:( -
I just bought Logic Studio 9 (latest I suppose) upgrade version. Now I figured out that it does not allow me to install for example Soundtrack Pro, Sound Effects etc... How can I install them?
Logic Studio 8 was not installed prior to install because OS X Lion does not allow me to install logic studio 8.
What should I do now? Complete uninstall OS X and only update to OS X Leopard?Hi
You have either moved the Applications or re-named them. For the updaters to work the Apps must be named "Logic Pro" and "MainStage.

Soundtrack Pro told me I "don't have permission to write it."
This has never happened before. Found the FX track I want, a .caf file if that makes a diferance, clicked on it to put in the Edit window, did Command 'S' to save it and this came up:
"Couldn't save the document because you don't have permission to write it."
All the premissions, on the top Apple Loops floders are all "Read, Write".
This is new to me. I could 'Save Copy as.." and save it as an .aiff file to use in FCP.
Should I stop carring about it since I CAN get a copy?
Bounus question: Why does YouTube flag my videos for using copywrited material (and may be blocked in some countries) when all the music I use comes out of SoundTrack Pro?Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select ▹ Restart from the menu bar. -
hey all. im trying to record audio with my Pioneer DM DV-5 mic, but audio Level is always no higher than about -50. in SysPrefs and in ST Pro Input Volume is on the maximum. so whats wrong?!
Thanks. That explains a lot, especially why reinstallation of STP fails in Mountain Lion.
I have STP stil around, but I am afraid that in the cleaning up with FCSRemover (asked to keep STP and DVDSP though) for the installation of FCPX something critical got lost. Trying to run STP crashes with a Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /Library/Application Support/ProApps/*/ProFX.framework/Versions/A/ProFX
Referenced from: /Applications/Final Cut Studio/Soundtrack Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Soundtrack Pro
Reason: image not found
Is it possible to retrieve (wherefrom) and reinstall this library? In such a way that FCPX is not harmed, of course. -
Just recently upgraded to Lion and having issues now with FCP and now Soundtrack Pro. I never had any problems until the upgrade, also noticed that my Quicktime Pro is gone, which I used all the time for making flv files for my website for all those in the world who insist on not loading QT on their machines. I am having to use QT 7.6.6 to do that and my flash files are doing strange things.
http://homepage.mac.com/ote_productions/Malcom.html
Yes, it's supposed to flash like that because I degraded the footage, but not that bad. It has never done anything like that before.
Another problem I'm having is I have a Macbook Pro hooked up to an old 20" Apple Cinema Display DVI late 2005, I never had issues with it, but now when I got to full screen on my FCP it is making strange lines in the footage as it play back. Never did this before, when I display on the 15" laptop monitor, no issues.
Soundtrack Pro crashed on me 3 times this morning, never does that.
Anyone else having any problems? I'm afraid to upgrade to the new FCP because of what I"m reading online about it. I think Apple needs to release a fix for this or are they trying to force us to use the new version and not worried about the old version? I am a professional who using these apps daily to do my job and it is causing me time that I am losing money on.
Please fix Apple we depend on these apps to work. Why are you being forced to use the new version of anything... including the operating system?
If you are a professional then you always stick with what works and/or use what it takes to get the job done.
STP is not supported under Lion, it's been discontinued, EOL.
I worry about you Mac folks.... the days of auto-upgrading to the latest and "greatest" are over, "It Just Works" only pertains to iMovie, Garageband and apps included with the OS.
Apple is a hardware company, their software is designed to sell hardware, Lion requires more memory and processing power as does FCPX. -

I thought it might have something to do with it trying to open the last project, so I tried reopening another project, and that didn't work. I've also trashed the preference file, which also didn't work.
I've already reinstalled twice, and I'm not anxious to just try it again as I've already had to fix Logic Pro in Lion by replacing ProKit and BrowserKit frameworks with earlier versions. Logic works now, and it's just Soundtrack Pro, Compressor and DVD Studio Pro that don't work (not too concerned about Compressor & DVD studio though).
There are an unfortunate number of issues with these pro apps and Lion, and I unfortunately don't have the option of going back to Snow Leopard, but I would if I had the time.Hi
If all you are trying to do is "bounce" the recorded audio from the 8 Track into Logic, you should not need the MMC devices (The MMC object allows you to 'remotely' control recording on the 8 track from Logic)
How are you routing the audio from the 8 track into Logic?
If you have Logic and the 8 track running in-sync, all you should need to do is arm a standard audio track in Logic (set to the correct audio inputs) and hit Rec.

I have re-installed both Leopard and subsequently the whole Logic Studio, which resolved the issue. Obviously, something on the OS level blocked creating of the STP data structure. The 're-installation fun' took about 5 hours, but the result is worth it.

Where is Soundtrack Pro?
I'm on Logic Pro 9.1.8
Mountain Lion 10.8.5
I'm doing a tutorial walkthrough (D. Nahmani, 'Pro Audio Production' p.322).
The instruction in step 5 (Choose Options > Audio > Open in Soudtrack Pro) has revealed that I don't have Soundtrack Pro, and I'm not sure why?
I bought from the App Store more than a year ago.
Can anyone help, please?
I've had a cursory look for the application in the applications folder but I'm not locating it if it is on my disk.Hi

I figured as much but I'm perplexed; why then is this discontinued app 'appendage' referred to with prominence in D. Nahmani's walkthrough for the official workbook for Logic Pro 9.
The book was written for the original (boxed) Logic Studio version, prior to the AppStore only LP9 release.

Regarding opening audio files in a separate audio-editing app - do you have anything you'd recommend that equal Soundtrack Pro? Secondly, is editing outside of Logic so advantageous, anyhow?
There are plenty of 3rd party audio file editors, for example Adobe Audition, Sound Forge and others. Some audio file editors (including STP) will allow you do do things that are not possible in Logic ( e.g. frequency spectrum view) or much more fiddly to do in Logic.
