Lion stalling

Even after the upgrade to 10.7.3, after waking from sleep and when mail or Safari access the internet, Lion stalls for a minute or so with the spinning beach ball. During that time nothing works, not even a force quit. This has bugged me for as long as I have Lion, and none of the Lion versions have improved this nasty situation.
There is a bunch of messages in the Console… about things that are deprecated or missing, buffer size allocation etc.
I had been hoping that during the past four months since the update to 10.7.2, Apple would have found and eradicated the problem, but they're too busy iOSifying the Mac line…
Does anybody have a clue? A solution?

Hi Thomas,
thanks, that was quick.
I copied the console since the last wake. I hope you'll find the problem.
Best, Hartmut

    Dead LION
Two-three months ago I upgraded to Lion (10.7.4)
The Lion discriminates a lot of applications
I should never have done that. Waste of money and especially a waste of my time.
There are NO essential news in Lion. It's just a monymaker for Apple
A bunch of applications does not work in Lion, while they been working fine in Snowleopard.
I could not delete the Lion and re-install SnowLeopard. (With out deleting all my datas).
I had to install SnowLeopard on a seperate external harddrive and now have to organize and disintegrate my else integrated work on two harddrives.
What a f'''''' bore. And absolute no thanks to Apple.
The Lion is stalling and slowing down, quits applications etc.
Since I installed the Lion on my computer (MacBook Pro 2 Ghz Intel core i7. 4 GB 1333 Hz DDR3)
is has been slowing down, in general and especially my browsers (Safari 5.1.7) (Google Chrome 13.0782.215) (Firefox 13.0.1). And Mail (5.2).
The OS quits applications, especially Mail and Safari.
The OS makes applications ever so often go in no-answer mode . Then I have to forcefully end them and start all over.
For speed and comfort I am back to 1991 Apple LC with 2 MB RAM. And no, the comfort was better then.
I have repaired disk with the OS own disktool.
I have reparied permissions again and again.
I have scanned for all problems and virus (MacKeeper).
I have rebooted and set the parametres to zero.
    All applications are updated
    Nothing helps.
I hope some of you friendly users or nerds can help. Thank you.
    Best wisges Jan Knus

Sounds like a failed HD. Get another HD, install it, reinstall the OS, upgrade to Lion, and then restore the TM backup.

  • Mac Mini 2010 OS X Lion Stalled WiFi Connetion

I have a 2010 Mac Mini that has been upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6. It is fully patched. I've been experiencing dropped or stalled wifi connections where the system still shows 100% signal from the Airport Extreme Base Station. My base station has the 5GHZ and 2.4GHZ bands enabled, so I have switched between them when they stop working. It seems to work for about a minute after moving from band to band. Airport Utility ends up having the Base Station and the Internet icons turn orange.
I read an article about resetting the SMC and creating a new network location, but that hasn't seemed to help.
I've checked the Console log and I can tell that this is now affecting my Time Machine NAS backups.
    What's next?
On a (probably) unrelated note, I did have some issues with the internal DVD drive in the past couple weeks. I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a hardware or software problem at this point.

    Hello,
and creating a new network location, but that hasn't seemed to help.
Did you try all these steps?
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

  • How do I uninstall Mavericks and recover Lion?  I have a brand new iMac and web pages stall or freeze since I installed Mavericks.  I can't get it to download software for my printer when I connect it.

I have a brand new iMac.  It was working fine until I downloaded Mavericks.  Now I have web pages that freeze while trying to load.  The blue in the address bar stalls and freezes.  If I try to load from page 1 to a later page, or reverse that, I also have the same problem.  I tried to connect my printer for the first time, and again, the blue progress bar froze.  Then I got the yellow  triangle telling me there was a connection problem.  My internet connection is via an Air Card as that is my only option where I live.  I packed up the whole new iMac and took it to my Air Card provider, where they also have very fast Wifi, and they had the same problem with Wifi.  I use my Air Card with my MacBook and it works JUST GREAT!  I really want to return to Lion.  HELP.

The only way to retutn to Lion is to format your drive (erase, lose all) and either:
    1. clone back the clone copy i hoep you have, or
    2. first backup your files, then format and install Lion again
But really, mavericks works great. You have a problem. Find out why. First, what unusual software do oyu have installed that may be conflicting with it? Virus, system modifiers, etc?  Second what OLD software do you have that might be the problem.  finally, you might need to do a re-install if something errored during install.

  • Lion 10.7.2 network connections stall

I am currently typing this while booted from the recovery drive.  Lion network connections seem to stall on my macbook pro.  Interestingly, connections made from command line programs and applications running in virtual machines are not affected.  Additionally, some programs become unresponsive when launched while connected to the internet, but launch normally when internet access is disabled (such as xcode and addressbook), while others always become unresponsive on launch(including keychain, mail).  I have also observed 1Mbps incoming spikes occuring randomly during these issues. I have tried creating a fresh user account to no avail (hence I'm in recovery mode).  My current theories are that either the network framework on the system drive is errant, so any applications that use it have problems while the ones that directly use the POSIX API have no problems, or that iCloud is blocked on my university's network and the sync services behave badly when the system is online and it can't connect to Apple.  I intend to test each theory when I get home, or perhaps when I can use another network besides my university's, but I need the ports iCloud's services use so I can systematically block them and check if that is the cause of the issue.  I'm personally hoping it's the former issue, as it will be far less annoying to reinstall the OS than to downgrade to simply use my laptop at school.

For a couple of weeks, no matter what I did with iCloud, nothing worked, except occasinally checking email with Mail.app.  Today, everything is working.  I noticed that in the logs there was a timeout error immediately after this message: UserEventAgent: CaptiveNetworkSupport:wispr_detect_redirect_async:424 user-agent:"CaptiveNetworkSupport-173 wispr" url:"http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html".  It seems this is how apple determines whether to display the login window.  As to why it was timing out, I'm not sure, but I noticed that my iPod Touch had no issues and was connecting over a different subnet.  It may have just been a network configuration problem at my school, or an overloaded login server.  I'll post again if I have problems later.

  • I've just installed mountain lion on my macbook pro. I cannot open preview and it is also stalling the log out sequence? How can I solve this

I've just installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro and cannot now open Preview. I've partly solved the reading of PDF documents by installing Adobe Reader, but Preview is also stalling the log out process. Any suggestions how I might solve this annoying trait would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

Just an FYI, normally you give the 'solved' award to the person who gave you the answer, not to yourself.

I bought and was downloading Mountain Lion but the download stalled. What do I do?

What do you see in the Mac App Store > Purchases section? The dl could just be paused, in which case you can resume it and carry on.
If it doesn't list it there then search your Mac for the installer incase it finished in the background and didn't start the installer automatically.
Finally, if you don't see it anywhere and you're sure it hasn't finished and actually updated without you realising it, you can email Apple's iTunes support team and they can either put it back in your download queue to try again or regrant you the download so you can 'buy' it again without having to pay.

  • HT202159 Mountain Lion download stalling at 53.25mb

I am running an iMac 10,1 with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and purchased Mountain Lion yesterday but the download stalled at 53.25mb. I have sufficient Hard drive space and Wifi signal but it won't go any further. I tried re-lanching the App Store, then re-started my Mac and then finally stopped the download and started again but it got to the same point and stopped.
Any help would be much appreciated as I have exhausted all avenues I can think of.

I'm another who's had the 53.25MB failure issue, and it's 99.9% certain to be a router issue. If you're in the UK then the chances are you're with BT for your broadband. As mentioned above, there is a known issue with the 2Wire BT Business Hub, see link below, and probably other routers too.
    http://btbroadbandandhowtosurviveit.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/bts-2-wire-woes.html
"If you want Mountain Lion, or any other large download, then you'll need to get another router, or firmware upgrade if available." That however can be a pain, and if BT don't play ball then an expensive one. There is another solution however, and one that means no contact with BT, call centres or your local PC World ...
What I did was put in an old BTHomeHub that I had lying around to get it passed the 53.25MB point, and then paused the download while I reinstalled the 2Wire BT Business Hub. I then resumed the download and the whole 4+GB was on my iMac in a few minutes (well just over the hour). If you don't have a spare router, borrow one, you'll only need it to get the download passed the 53.25MB stage. For completeness, I waited until it was at about 150MB before pausing.
    Hope that helps some.

  • SL to Lion Upgrade Stall - Does Upgrading ever work?

I've been running Server across several versions.
Thought I'd try upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, despite the fact that NONE of these upgrades ever work.
Apple didn't let me down - the upgrade to my Snow Leopard server stalls at "Upgrading Services" and won't proceed past this point.
I of course have a bootable backup, so I'm still in business but I need to have some clues from an experienced upgrader what I might do to assist this process to complete.
Alternatively, I may have to consider a migration although I'm not particularly experienced at this kind of server operation.
    Suggestions?

We have not been able to upgrade this server.  We've tried on three separate occasions - once while working the problem with medium-level Apple engineering in Austin.  We are running on a couple dozen users, with minimal services - mail, DNS, DHCP, and address book as you.
We've tried upgrading both the server drive, as well as the backup drive.  Both stall during the upgrade and it never completes.
We've also tried once after 10.7.2 came out, downloading Lion and Lion server fresh thinking/hoping that the bugs would have been squashed.
    No dice.
In the current financial climate we're unwilling to pay a consultant to migrate everything to a new installation, and put up with the inevitable service disruptions and instability that generally occurs during this process.  Our current Snow Leopard server is rock-solid after a rocky period early on.
A agree that Apple seems to be disinterested in these issues now - perhaps if the server ran on the iPhone we'd have more luck getting support!

  • Upgraded to Lion. Numbers is stalling to auto save after every keystroke. Isn't auto save supposed to run in the background?

Upgraded to Lion. Numbers is stalling to auto save after every keystroke. Isn’t auto save supposed to run in the background?

It's supposed to save when the processor isn't triggered by the user. If you type slowly, time between two strokes may be sufficient to allow it to start the save process.

  • Mac OS X Lion 10.7 black screen crashes (and SSD stalls again)

    Hi,
I have downloaded and installed Mac OS X 10.7 Lion a couple of hours ago and I am facing blackscreen crashes every hour or so.
Blackscreens seem to happen when I use new Lion features such as mission control, swipe between desktops, and document versions.
The only way to get out of it is by rebooting my MacBook Pro.
Also I am facing stalls with my Crucial M4 SSD 512GB again (spinning beachball stays for ~30 sec while system being totally unresponsive) after I have managed to get rid of them earlier by applying TRIM last week when I had Snow Leopard. I re-enable it in Lion but apparently that didn't solve the problem.
    Your help is appreciated.

I am trying to use migration assistant to move everything from snow leopard (10.6.8) to mountain lion (10.8.3) using a direct machine to machine ethernet cable connection but it stalls out at about 17 minutes remaining.  Thoughts on how to proceed?

Have you set both to never sleep?
Is the source (old) Mac's software up to date (including the Migration Assistant for Mac OS X Snow Leopard update)?
Is the old Mac healthy?  Have you run Verify Disk on it lately?
The estimates are wildly inaccurate under the best of circumstances.  How long has it been stuck?

my macbook pro (with retina) has stalled whilst installing an update of mountain lion, the blue bar has stopped progressing, it has frozen and hasn't moved, I can't cancel the installation, I can't shutdown the computer, can't restart it, nothing...help!

    Thanks for sharing...
To the OP - I had a upgrade from the App Store 'stall' on me last week - I couldn't even Force Quit the App Store app. I ended up just powering down with the power button and when I logged back into the App Store, the update finished downloading in seconds and I was ready to begin installation.
Try that and see if it works for you...

Why not reinstall OSX? The link you gave is fetching the 10.7.5 combo update from the server, and replacing the Java core framework. I don't know why you wouldn't just reinstall 10.8.5 in the normal manner, whether via recovery mode or the combo update:

"curl" it if you feel so inclined.
