Lion upgrade problem

After installing Lion, why won't my Mail app open?

lindafromsandy,
What happens when you try to open it? Do you get any error messages?
don tishman,
Your answer makes no sense. What does Adobe and the use of Web browsers have to do with using Apple's Mail app?

  • Mountian Lion upgrade problem

I recently had problems with my Mountain lion upgrade. Took it to the apple store and they went into the disk utility. Clicked on the Mac HD section and clicked
repair disk  permission. Everything seems to be OK now.

Looks like you wiped your disk and are trying now to boot from this (empty) disk.
Follow one of the many instructions for a clean ML install, e.g. this here.
Once done, and when moving all your old stuff back on the Mac, watch out that you don't copy and use anything that's not 100% ML-compatible.

  • Lion upgrade problems

I've upgraded my 08 Macbook Pro to lion, and now the screen keeps flashing when I'm in safari which is very annoying, the superdrive will now not write to my blank DVD's , it says the drive could not calibrate the laser for this type of media, when before the upgrade it could. And when I'm scrolling between desktops in full screen mode, it flickers...
It also seems to run way hotter than it used to.
Full specs of my computer are:
    2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB 1067MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB
    Thanks for any help.

  • Lion to Mountain Lion upgrade problem

I have a couple of problems here which, my hunch is, are related.
I have successfully downloaded Mountain Lion.
On starting the install process, I cannot select my Macintosh HD as it says 'This disk cannot be used to start up your computer'.
I have tried repartitioning the drive, as suggested elsewhere. That doesn't work for me.
I don't have a recovery partition on the hard drive. If I start in Recovery mode, it downloads the necessary files from the internet, but I cannot reinstall Lion as I get the same error message as above.
I have repaired disk permissions. No difference. If I repair disk, I get the message 'Error: Partition map check failed because no slices were found.'
I am willing to do a clean install of Mountain Lion. I have extracted InstallESD.dmg and burnt it to a DL DVD. It shows up correctly in Finder. However, when rebooting and holding C, I only get Macintosh HD as a boot option, not the DVD.
So I'm stuck. No way of installing Mountain Lion at all at the moment. Any direction gratefully received.
    Jon

For reference, I was able to boot from a second disk I burnt and that allowed me to do a clean install.
Still, that was a very messy procedure. I wish you a better process than mine.

Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

Anyone have problems getting Office 2004 to run after Lion upgrade?

For the rare few, such as myself, who have some Office 2004 or older documents that fail to translate well in Office 2011, another option is to run Office 2004 in Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) installed in Parallels:

  • Problem with Lion upgrade after running Migration Assistant

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased earlier this year.  I bought a new MacBook Air yesterday.
I used Migration Assistant to migrate some of my data/settings from my old MacBook Pro to the new MacBook Air.  After the migration, all of my original data was still available on the MacBook Pro (good as I wanted to keep a copy on the MacBook Pro and not all data was migrated).  The new MacBook Air received all the right data and is working well.
I then purchased a Lion upgrade for my MacBook Pro and started the installation process.  The installation process seemed to be going fine, but the MacBook Pro eventually hung.  I let it "run" overnight hoping that it would finish the process, but the machine was still hanging a day later.  I forced the MacBook Pro to shut down using the power button.  Now, when I restart the MacBook Pro, I get the "Mac OS X Utilities" screen asking if I want to Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall Mac OS X, Get Help Online, or Disk Utility.  Does this mean my data is not longer available on the MacBook Pro?  Also, I do/did have the MacBook Pro connected to a Time Machine and it had up-to-date backups at the time I ran Migration Assistant.  However, I noticed that after running Migration Assistant, the MacBook Pro was complaining that it was no longer connect to the Time Machine.
My instinct tells me that I should attempt to restore the MacBook Pro using the Time Machine backup, but I'm wondering if it might be able to revive the MacBook Pro without having to take that step.  Or, maybe I should select the "Reinstall Mac OS X" option first?  Any ideas?
If I need to use the Time Machine backup, do I need to do anything special given the post Migration Assistant behavior I described above?
    Thanks for any advice!

How can I fool Time Machine into using the original Backup Folder and just doing an incremental backup?
You can't. after using MA on it you have to start a new backup sequence. you can change computer name in Sharing preferences to anything you like but it won't affect TM backups.

  • After lion upgrade time capsule no longer backs up

Time capsule no longer will back up after lion upgrade is anyone else having this problem?

The Time Machine application is part of the Lion operating system, so you will likely get a faster and more informed response if you post in the Lion support area for Time Machine. There are a number of posts there with issues similar to yours.
    Mac OS X v10.7 Lion
Click on the Refine This List button under the Lion and then click on Time Machine to get to the support area.

  • How do I get my iLife back for free after Lion Upgrade?

I upgraded from the Snow Leopard OS to Lion OS (using the thumb drive Apple sales) about a week ago, using a "Clean Install"; after doing which, I found that I couldn't find a lot of the app.s my wife and I downloaded. Our iLife collection is the only set I am truely upset about.
I called apple technical support and the lady asked me to find the Application CD that came with my iMac when I ordered it from Apple. I thought she would know what she was talking about and I ask a good deal of questions before using the CD. All the questions of which were answered to my satisfaction; however, I started the install of the CD and I got off the phone with the tech.supt. After about an hour, install done, iMac re-started, and my iLife app.s are no where to be found.
And!!!...My computer is now doing this freeze thing...where we have to do a Forced Power down to get it unfrozen!
Please help someone. I just want to get my wife's iphoto and iMovie back that she loves to tinker with (without having to pay for it all over again).

Do you work for Apple? So what you are telling me: it doesn't matter if I payed for it once, Apple is so low tech or just could care less about its customers that I am going to have to come out of pocket again. What is the point of the 90 day technical support that Apple offers with the Lion upgrade when it is purchased if the technical support just says...sorry, we can't help you with this problem.?
I am going to have to come out of pocket for a lot more than just the iLife collection that Apple has a copy of my purchase, which validates my request, yet Apple is not going to help me out. If that is the case, this would have to be the worst customer service I have ever gotten.
You are correct that it is my fault that my apps are gone because I did the clean install and did not think to back up my app.s, but is Apple hurting that much for money that it needs to squeeze money out of people that delete software by mistake? I have gotten two app.s for free from other small time app writers to put back on this computer after the Lion upgrade just by emailing them what happened and my info.
What about the freezing problem my iMac is having after I performed the task Apple tech supt told me to, which didn't work and created a new problem. You didn't address the freezing issue. You stating what I already said and adding a snooty comment to the end of it, while not offering any real help or advice pertaining to my questions, has been a waste of my time and an inconvenience to me that was not need. How about you think next time, before you type.
If anyone else would like to point out that I messed up or that I have no choice but to pay again, please hold your comments and allow those who might have a suggestion or answer to post, so I can get the help I asked for. Thank you, and thank you QuickTimeKirk for the speedy reply.

  • Unable to see pdf files with Lion upgrade

Since upgarding to Lion I've been unable to see my bank e-statements in Safari or Firefox. When the pdf file appears to load the result is a black statement in Safari and a white screen in Firefox. A right click does not allow me to download the file for viewing. When I spoke with their electronic support the said they have had many calls regarding this problem with newest OS X Lion upgrades. His suggestion was to uninstall or remove Adobe Reader v10.1.1 and allow Safari to read the files. Has anyone found a solution to this problem rather than completely abandoning Adobe Reader?

    Hi BDAqua,
Thanks for the info, I dragged a PDF to desktop ctrl-, get info. change all to open with adobe.
Problem solved, many thanks for a quick response.

  • IMac 27" with Lion upgrade ... daily hangs! Need help and support

    Dear Apple,
Mid-July we got an iMac27" with Snow Leopard installed. First week of August I upgraded to Lion via web download (from Apple Store).
Since then the iMac has frequently hung. It goes in two stages: 1) the cursor gets round with rolling colors for some time (the "force quit" or "shutdown" menu selections cannot be accessed because the mouse gets inactive for clicks), then 2) the cursor gets in the middle of the screen and resembles the gray round that rotates when the iMac starts up (but without the gray apple above it this time) ... it stays in that mode indefintely. I then have to shut it down via the back lower left button and start again. Now it goes into that "routine" almost daily.
All softwares are up-to-date. I have also performed three of four times now the "Alt at start" manoeuvre, check disk and permissions with repair.
Is it because of the Lion upgrade (instead of a fresh install)? (If so, how do I perform a fresh install and keep all settings/preferences.) Is it hardware-related ... although it looks like working quite good? Is it software-related ... how to clean everything?
In case such issue has not yet come up I will need to call the Apple help center. Can a phone number be provided? Thanks.
    Regards.
    Pierre

Your situation sounds identical to mine. But, with a 27" 2010 iMac and a 2009 Mac pro. Constant freezes, hangs, programs not quiting, unable to restart , shutdown.
I did a full re-install of Lion on both the iMac and Mac pro, including a full initialization of he disk, and, instead of migrating all my apps and data from time capsule, I individually re-installed each app.
    Nada!..same problem..
On this past Monday, I reformatted my Macpro and re-installd Snow Leopard - it works perfect now!
Lion has got to be the worst product Apple has ever released. I have no idea why it works on so many Macs, when it seems to be so bad on many as well.

  • Enabled fonts not showing up in InDesign after Mountain Lion Upgrade

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, fonts that are enabled in Font Book (Adobe open Type) are not showing up in InDesign CS5.5.
However, if I go to Font Book and disable the fonts, then re-enable them...they will show up in InDesign.
Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

It sounds like a small glitch in your Mountain Lion upgrade. If you're just done an in-place upgrade (not a clean install) these things can happen.
It sounds like you've found the workaround. But if you discover other problems with the upgrade, you should consider a clean install. Do a Google search on "clean install Mountain Lion" to find out how.
