Lion Window sizing

I am so frustrated with Lion. I'm seriously considering wiping this thing and going back to Snow Leopard. I'm trying to fix a bug in my iTouch address book (entries are multiplying like bunnies on via**),
But now my iTunes window has stretched so I can't scroll or reach the sync button. I tried clicking the yellow and green buttons, then with the arrows on the other side. That just took me to full screen (and I had to discover the stealthy close drop-down bar. I want those old iMac windows back. I never had problems like this before. Even my PC isn't this frustrating.
How do I get the itunes window to resize so I can see the whole window?

I just had this happen to me (see my setup info below) while trying to preview JPEGs and TIFFs.
I then just opened Preview, option+right-clicked on its icon, and chose "Force Quit". I then tried Quick Look via the spacebar on some image files it was "failing" on, and sure enough, they all preview in their larger size now.
I did this because Quick Look works on a plugin basis, and it was just a guess that happened to work. I got a little inspiration from this post.

    Hi,
I think window auto-tuning is enabled.
You can disable it by running the following commend.
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

  • In Events, want to scroll through window-sized images...

Searched a bit on this, and haven't found a "yes" but thought I would check to see the current thinking.
What I was hoping to do, was utilize the Apple mouse scroll button to easily view all the photos in an event, when they were clicked on to become window-sized. I know I can use the forward and back arrow keys to wander through the set, but the mouse is much more handy (and, I'm afraid, what I was used to with PSE and a scroll-wheel mouse on the PC.) It does let me use the scroll for the thumbnail view, and I'm just hoping I'm missing a setting to allow me to scroll the full-size pictures, too?
This is a useful tool for flipping back and forth when comparing two very similar pics, when trying to select the better one, for example.
Thanks again in advance for all help.

Unbelievable! 100s pf apps and not even sorted alphabetically, you just have to have free time to hunt because sony developers didnt have the time to code a simple search feature! I wish i knew this before i bought the tv I would definitely go for another brand!

  • Window sizing for PDA

I am using RH X5. Output format is neg to the developer.
However, how can I set the window sizing to be viewable on a PDA
sized screen? I have minimal graphics but use a lot of tables.
    Thanks!
    Susan

Did actually figure this out. These are the basic steps :
    Minimized the screen
Clicked Alt and spacebar (this pops up a menu).
    Selected Move.
Using cursor keys I arrowed down and right a couple of times (cursor starts in top left)
Then I clicked on screen and the Desktop window showed up. I resized to where I wanted it.
Did this process a couple of times until when I opened up a new window it came up to the size I wanted.

  • Unix window sizing

    Hi,
I ran into the window sizing on the Unix box.
When I ran my application on window environment, all
the windows appeared OK. However, when I ran my
application on the Unix box, the windows shrunk
dramatically. Sometimes, I could even see the words
    on the window.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks
    Anthony

    Hello Anthony,
we use AIX 4.3.x on IBM and see the same problems on Motif 2.1.
    1. Forte supports up to 3.0.N only Motif 1.2 on Unix-Platforms. At 3.0.N some
UNIX-OS's are supported with Motif 2.1.
    2. The size of text depends on what font you has installed at UNIX Platform.
You are able to change the default Fonts at X11 and the available sizes of
fonts. X11 use at standard less fonts and font-sizes and maybe only 16
    colors.
Because more colors and fonts increase the memory usage of X11.
    3. All widgets, which are designed for WINDOWS are converted at X11/Motif.
    (e.g. List-View, Tree-View)
    4. The functionality of 'size to parent' and other behaviours of
    grid-fields differ
    at X11/Motif.
Solution: 1. You design the look and feel of the graphic client at UNIX-side.
    2. You don't use WINDOW-specific widgets.
    3. You migrate to Motif 1.2 at UNIX-side if your platform is
    not supported
with Motif 1.2 (some other failures may also occur at
    2.1 which may occur
    a stack-backtrace error).
    4. Set FORTE_STACK_SIZE at UNIX >= 100.000
    5. See technotes at cyber-support for specific problems at Motif
    Summary:
You will see, the graphical support at Motif (also keyboard specific
    behaviours) must
be adjusted at X11/Motif before a synonym usage like WINDOWS is available.
You will see that Forte does not prefer Motif as favourite graphical client.
Don't be worry, you are able to adjust a lot of things in X11/Motif to have
    a look
and feel like WINDOWS. LINUX has a graphical interface (fvwm) which simulates
the same behaviours of graphical interfaces like WINDOWS. This is only done
by adjustement of X11-parameters and ini-files.
    Hpe this helps

  • I can't find startup disk in Mac OS X Lion window

While performing the following instructions, I coudn't get through step 4 since there is no startup disk appearing in the pane ??
OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X
Use the built-in recovery disk to reinstall OS X while keeping your files and user settings intact.
Important: You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen).
Select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it’s the only one available).

Since your MBP came with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x) and you're referring to the Mac OS Lion window in Recovery Mode, do you have Mavericks currently installed or Lion? If you boot and hold down the Option Key after the chime, you'll invoke Startup Manager and you should see a row of bootable partitions. The Recovery Partition should say what the operating system number is (e.g., 10.7.5, 10.8.3). If it's 10.7.x, which is Lion, and you've already installed Mavericks, the issue may be that you can't install an older OS (Lion) directly over a newer OS (Mavericks).

  • (Mountain)Lion Window Manager Questions

I've written a couple apps for iOS, but nothing major. And now I have a goal of writing my own window manager for OS X. Mainly because I find developing in XCode painful after using Windows Aero/Snap features. Yes, I know about several good existing window managers, but this project seems like a good way to get my feet wet in the Apple OS development arena. I've been Googling around for about an hour looking for answers to these questions, but I'm still not 100% sure on any of them. Here goes:
What is the name for the default Lion / Mountain Lion Window Manager?
X11/Quartz can be restored in 10.7+ to run "legacy" OS X apps. Does that have an effect on the existing window manager?
Are there any open source projects that I could look at to get a handle on the concepts behind the Mac OS X 10.7+ system management?

    Roguish wrote:
Why not? I know tons of stuff applicable to Windows, I'd like to know more about Mac OS.  And the best teacher is experience in my opinion.
But writing something like a window manager is hard. Wouldn't you rather start off slowly?
"Snap" is a rather convienient window resizing feature of Windows 7.
I have Windows 7 for running IE 9 to test web sites. It is dog-slow to I avoid it whenever possible.
XCode isn't my problem, the minimalistic window controls in Mac OS X are my problem.  But I only have to deal with them in an irritating fashion when I'm coding in XCode
Xcode is pretty-much an all-encompassing environment. You should only have one Xcode window open. Source files are in the editing pane.
I just didn't want to start a flame war over operating systems.  I personally don't have an OS preference; if an application I need is only on Mac OS then I'll use Mac OS, if I need to write a document I'll use Word in Win7, if I need to rapidly prototype a script for research purposes I'll use Ubuntu.
This is not Ars or Slashdot. This is Apple-land. Macs rule - end of story. If you try some Mac apps, you might find that Pages does anything Word does three times faster and OS X does anything Ubuntu does, only better.
It's a free country.  Could you suggest a better one besides the developer tutorials in the Mac Developer Library?  I've written a couple drivers using it, but I can't seem to find the correct wording to locate the current topic in there.
No, it isn't. As I said above, this is Apple-land. You asked about a good project to get your feet wet in the Apple OS development arena. Anything involving X11 would be a very poor project for that purpose because it would not teach you one thing about Apple OS development. If you want to learn about X11, then do something in X11. If you want to write a Mac application, then do that.
Really? What would you call Mission Control then (I finally succeeded with Google)?
You are talking X11-isms. You aren't going to replace Mission Control.
How about Inkscape, the free SVG editor?  Which is still in active development.  And as of this post requires Quartz to create an X11 window to run in.  I'm sure they'll get to updating it eventually, but until then I'd rather not shell out for Illustrator just to make SVG's quickly.
Adobe is not really a Mac development house anymore. They just churn out ugly, expensive cross-platform bloatware. Adobe's idea of an icon is a square with an "A" in it.
If you are looking for quick and easy to use vector drawing tools, the Developer forum might not be the right place to ask. I use Logoist. It's not free but I can create documents faster than you can download and launch Inkscape.
Or maybe you just aren't familiar with what "Window Manager" means.
I know what a "Window Manager" is. If you want to ask something specific, please do so.
I want to code an application for OS X that would allow me to very quickly resize the active window to take up the right half of my screen by pressing command+<right arrow> (or something similar).
    Was that so hard?
The only shortcuts similar to what I want (that I use) are command+m (minimize) and command+<down arrow> (open current selection using the default app). Three existing window managers that I know of that seem promising and have nice feature sets are SizeUp, Cinch, and Optimal Layout.  But as I mentioned earlier I want to code it myself. As an exercise. To learn.
You could cobble together some AppleScript such as you have already posted. However, that isn't going to teach you anything about OS X development either.
Next time could you be a little less smug (and a lot more helpful) when replying to an obviously new member to the forums?
Only if you meet me halfway. What kind of welcome would I get if I showed up in a Windows forum asking how I could learn about .NET by writing a Linux device driver? And then, for good measure, I call Visual Studio painful because it doesn't support some Mac features that Windows users have never heard of.
This is a different world. There are no window managers and there never have been. Asking about X11 in OS X is like asking about DOS development in Windows. Sure, there are some people who still do that stuff, but I would never suggest anyone start there. X11 is just part of the UNIX compatibility layer - a foreign add-on. Most of the open source is in that layer too. If by "open source" you mean "free software", you should know that free software is pretty much incompatible with the Apple ecosystem and not by Apple's decision.
I suggest you start by writing some applications. Use the Xcode project templates in File > New > Project > Cocoa Application. If you want to start on the command line, do File > New > Project > Command Line Tool > Foundation. Get used to Cocoa and Objective-C.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, Windows doesn't work

    Hello,
I've just upgraded my computer to Mountain Lion (from Leopard) and Microsoft windows 'the Power PC applications are no longer supported'.  I've tried to download different version of Microsoft windows - still doesn't work.  Help!?
I'm aware that this question may have been posted but somehow can't access the main community room.
    Thanks
    Odyle

You can't run Windows on a Mac unless you use BootCamp or a third-party utility such as Parallels Desktop.
Perhaps you mean Microsoft Word (which is part of the MSOffice suite).
Only MSOffice 2008 and later will run in Mountain Lion.
However there are very good free alternatives, such as LibreOffice.

  • Can't install Lion (Windows XP and Parallells 6 being used)

    Hi,
This is my first post here, so please forgive me if I'm not too used to the forum habits. I've been checking the discussions before, but haven't been able to find anything that matched my case...
Let me explain it to you, so that hopefully somebody knows the solution and can share it with me...
I had Mac OS X (10.6) installed in my MacBookPro.
I had also installed Windows XP with Bootcamp in a different partition.
I had also installed Paralllels Desktop 6.
    Everything worked fine.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade to Lion, and bought it in the Apple Store.
Before going ahead with the process, and as indicated by Apple, I upgraded the current Mac OS to the latest version.
I tried to install it, and after rebooting, when it was about 30 minutes to finish the installation, I got amessage saying that "MAc OS X can't be installed in the  Macintosh HD hard drive, because a recovery disk can not be created" (translated from the Spanish message)
Then, I though that maybe it was some issue with Parallels Desktop. I checked their Fourms, and indeed it seemed that it could be the reason. I upgraded to the last available version.
I tried again, and got the same message.
Then I thought that maybe I had to upgrade to the last version also with Parallels in the Windows machine. I did so, and I tried again... and again it didn't work.
I don't know what else I can do... besides deleting the Windows partition, installing Lion, and creating a new partition, in which I should install Windows 7 (as Windows XP, as it is explained, is not supported in a new partition)
I followed all the natural steps to create the partition for Windows, install Parallels, etc. I mean that I didn't do anything manually then...
The only "weird" thing that I had to do when installing Windows XP was this one:
The Windows XP that I had was Service Pack 1, and Service Pack 2 was included in another CD... Of course that's not a problem when installing Windows in a PC, but gave me a lot of troubles to install it in the Mac. I found this solution in a Forum in Internet, follow the steps, and it worked:
    (http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/running-windows-anything-else-your-mac/38166-wi ndows-xp-service-pack-2-installation-problem.html)
    1. Click Start - Run - Type “regedit” and press enter 2. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    \Software
    \Microsoft
    \Windows
    \CurrentVersion
\Setup 3. In the right pane, Right-click and select New - String value 4. Name it as “BootDir” and set its value to “C”
Can this be the reason why I'm not able to install Lion now?
Anyway, and whether it is, any solution (simple, if possible, please! ;-> ) to install it?
(Buying Windows 7, deleting the partition, etc. seems very nightmarish to me)
    Thanks a lot in advance!

  • How can I use an external USB drive on my Macmini with Boot Camp and Lion/Windows 7?

I have a MacMini (Last model with a disk drive). The Mini has Lion and Windows 7 installed using Boot Camp. I want to attach a 350GB, USB, HP Personal Storage Device (Hard Drive) to the computer and be able to use it in both Lion and Windows 7 mode. The USB drive is formatted for Windows 7. I only want to use it for storage and back-up purposes for both operating systems. It would be nice if I could access the total disk from either system without having to reboot to change operating systems to view Windows 7 files and reboot again to view Lion files. Can anyone offer any guidance or any informational websites to help me? Thank you for any help!!

Yes, you’ll be able to do that.

  • New mac Mini 2011/lion Windows 7 black screen at installation

    Hi,
I'm switching to Mac and finally got the new mini i5 2.5Ghz and I'm trying to install W7 professional.
I'm using an external USB dvd r/w unit (a samsung)
In bootcamp i was able to create the driver disk and repartition the existing hard drive in two halfs of 256GB each
But when bootcamp assistant restarts the mini in order to boot from the windows installation disc, I just get a black screen and the W7 installer does not boot,
At that point neither the 32 nor the 64 bit version of W7 boots. The screen simply remains black.
I can boot from the os x partition (keeping the option key pressed unitl the boot disk selection cames out), and Lion works, but any attempt to boot from the dvdrom with w7 fails.
Anyone else encountered this issue and can help ?

    Go to http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst118DriverPreview.aspx
and install the ATI 11.8 preview drivers.
Once installed, open the catalyst Control center (you should have a red icon in the notification tray)
and in one of the settings there is an "overscan" setting.
you should see a slider, position it to "0%" and you should have full screen.
For some reason the overscan defautl setting is set at -15%, hence the black bars.
I spent quite a lot of time on this, mainly because the bootcamp ATI drivers did not have any setting page I could find. I then installedd the official 11.7 drivers, but I could not get the Catalist Control Center to show up, not sure why.
Finally after reading forums for hours I gave the 11.8 a try, as it seems thare are some improvements (but mostly performances) for the HD 6xxx graphics cards, then finally it worked and i could access the overscan settings.
You may want to try first to see if you have the overscan setting before installing any new drivers.
    Hope this helps

  • After installing lion, windows 7 boot option disappeared.

I had a macbook with snow leopard and windows 7 together. Yesterday I installed macosx lion. After installing it, windows 7 selection disappeared  in boot  menu. I tried to select boot options by  pressing "alt key".  I saw a new partition which is Recovery HD. There was no bac up files. So what happened to my windows 7 part? How can I restore system?
I tried to use disk utility in lion.  I realized that the name of the windows 7 part was changed, now it is disk1s4 but before it was disk0s3 etc..
I removed my macbook HDD and attach with as external HDD to a desktop computer. But I could not find any solution.
In a forum, Someone suggest to create RAW diskimage  by using a program named "active and undelete"
Firstly delete windows 7 partition on HDD and create new partition. And then  set up it with windows 7 DVD  and use RAW diskimage and restore your old settings.
    is this logical?
Or is there any simple way to rescue my system?   For example If I reinstall Snow Leopard, come my windows 7 partition back?

I could not remember this selection but if I choose one, I choose complete install..
