Lion won't start stuck in loop?

Lion won't start, stuck in loop

This morning my Dual-Core Intel Xeon, Mac begins start up, then turns completely off.  My (own) memory is faulty, but I think I've upgraded to 10.7.5.
At first it was stuck in start up so I turned it off then on again.
My first warning was when I came into the office this morning and the APC was beeping.  Why?  That's a mystery too, because its battery appears to be fine, and turning it off then on again the "green" operating light shines as normal.  Funny though, when I turned the APC off then on, the computer tried to start up, but I'd shut it down the night before, ...unless, and here's again a memory glitch, ...I may have let it "sleep" overnight, though that would be highly unusual for me.

  • PS CS5 under Lion--won't start?

    Just installed PSCS5 Ver 12.0 x64 under Mac OS X Ver 10.7.2.
Photoshop won't start, but hangs at "Reading brushes..."
Have tried opening it from Bridge and opening directly from the Dock (without Bridge).
    Any suggestions or pointers?

Have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, font validation, etc.)?

  • OS X won't start; stuck on the Apple logo

I went out of town on Friday and shut down my iMac G5 (Intel, purchased brand new January 2007). When I got home today and tried to boot it up, it stuck on the grey screen with the Apple logo and spinning gear. It will stay there until I either unplug my iMac or hold down the power button until it shuts down. This happens every time I attempt to boot OS X. I try to start in Safe Mode (holding down shift), but get the same result, same when I unplug all peripherals. I can, however, boot Windows XP via Boot Camp, which is what I am using to access the internet right now. Everything seems to be working perfectly in Windows XP, but it won't boot at all in OS X. I don't have access to my Install disc right now (It's at my dad's house; we got the family version of Leopard.), but I could get it if I absolutely have to.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Your problem may be different, so it might serve you better to start your own thread. That said, both problems occurred when switching locations, so I wonder if the network/wifi might be involved. However, Niels, if you are unable to start at all, with any of those methods, there may be something more serious involved (we have had no feedback from the OP in the last few hours).
Showing the last screen suggests a total (and unusual) freeze with the computer not having shutdown or gone to sleep. Did you close the lid and leave it? If you cannot start with the disk or with the Option key it is not simply the OS gone awry, IMO.
    Last resorts?
One thing not tried is to hold down the Command, Option , P , and R keys on the keyboard to reset PRAM.
Also, as a really last resort, hold down the Command, Option, O, and F keys. A grey screen will appear with a command line. Type +reset all+ and if that does not work, it is off to the shop.

  • Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) won't start After Effects CS5.5 because it's a powerpc app!?

I've had CS 5.5 Master Collection installed on my Mac since it came out. All the CS 5/5.5 apps I've used up to now have worked fine, in 64-bit mode (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, InDesign). Now I need to use After Effects, but I can't get it to start.
First it said it couldn't rename a Workspaces.xml file in the preferences directory in my home folder. In fact, there was no such file there at all. Nothing to rename. So, I uninstalled After Effects using its uninstaller; then reinstalled it from the install DVDs.
Now, it fails on startup saying the After Effects CS5.5 application cannot be run because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. True: OS X no longer runs apps that require Rosetta. CS 5.5 is does not require Rosetta; it's compatible with Lion. The OS 10.7 Known Issues KB article says nothing about After Effects: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html?promoid=JBQYY
So...what's going on? I need this thing working for a project with a deadline! I don't get it. Anybody seen this before? (I didn't find anything in the discussions about it, nor Google...)

Interesting article, but I knew I was leaving PowerPC apps behind when I moved to OS 10.7, and Adobe claims that After Effects CS 5.5 is fully compatible with Lion. But you must be right about prefs; there's gotta be something causing the Mac OS to think this version of CS is ancient...
Since my initial message, I've tried and failed to find any details about how to select the right prefs to delete. I also ran Disk Utility to repair permissions on my system drive. That got rid of the PowerPC error:) Now on startup AE says mediacore fails to initialize. I can choose to quit or continue on that error, but continuing just results in another error that says dynamiclinkmanager unexpectedly quit, and then AE locks up and I have to force quit it. Not much progress!
No other answers on this so far... Before I uninstall the entire Creative Suite and then delete all Adobe system and hidden files everywhere, any more suggestions? Or a list of the right prefs I should trash?

  • Mountain Lion won't start with 32-bit kernal

I'm trying to update my Sony NEX-5 to version 5, and every time I click the installer, it says that it runs on a 32-bit kernal.
I tried starting up in 32 bit by holding the 3 and 2 keys, but this doesn't seem to do anything. I remember when I was on Snow Leopard, I could update my NEX-5 without any 32-bit startup necessary. Looking at some forums, even when people were on Snow Leopard they needed to startup in 32-bit...but I didn't.
Why doesn't it start up in 32-bit mode?
Why doesn't the application work on 64-bit? (Chrome is 32-bit...that still works on 64-bit)
Why has Sony even done this to us?
Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on the 2012 21.5" iMac.

Yes, the 64-bit kernel is not supported for downloading the firmware update. You may use your neighbors or friends computer to download the firmware. You can also send the Camera to our service center for getting the firmware installed:
    Haha! Very funny Sony!
Well, I have a Canon 650D now anyway, and the update isn't a big deal. Just would be nice to update it.

  • Mid-2010 iMac running Lion Won't Start Up?

I have a mid-2010 iMac running OS X Lion. It was running slow one day so I restarted it. When I restarted it, the iMac went to the white apple logo screen and had a small loading bar at the bottom. After it loaded it would not start up. I have the Snow leapord install disk but I have a wireless keyboard, so I cannot press C to get to the reinstall menu. Any ideas that could help?

Probably your hard disk is damaged. Apple has called some iMacs bought between October 2009 and June 2011 for repair because they have damaged hard disks, so see if you've one of those Macs > http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive
Press C key after the startup sound to boot from the disc, go to Utilities > Disk Utility and repair the disk

  • MacBook won't start, stuck on blue screen

My MacBook is stuck on blue screen... forever....
    MacBook info:
    13.3in, 2.0GHz Intel Core2 Duo, 120GB HD, 2X1GB RAM with Leopard
MacBook was running great until last night...  My screen got frozen while browsing, and force quit did not work.  So I used power button to turned it off.  After that, my MacBook won't boot up anymore...  gray screen for about 3min, apple icon screen for 15min, then stuck on blue screen.
I think I've tried everything in here..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
The only command that I was able to use was "Reset the NVRAM / PRAM", but no change there...
I tried install DVD (came with the MacBook), but I cannot boot with DVD with C button and now the install DVD is stuck....
Is there any way to fix this?  My warranty expired already, and I am trying to do everything before taking this to the store...
    Thank you.

    Thanks Eric.
I have tried that before, but I gave an another try.  I held the option button longer this time, until I saw the apple icon.  Then cd (DVD?) image came on, so I clicked on it.  But after apple icon went away (10 min?), my macbook is again stuck on blue screen.  I only saw cd image, and did not see any other drives...  Is that a bad sign?
    Thanks,

  • Won't start, stuck @ desktop

I also posted this in the MBP forum....
I use my computer every day for work, it's a MPB 2.16 intel core duo
2 gigs of ram running the very latest os-x available.
alot of the sites I use for work only work on Internet explorer 6 or better, so I downloaded an application called ies4osx which uses an X11 script to run a windows version of internet explorer. worked perfectly at first, but as the day went on my computer started getting very slow. I'd quit, still slow, and after a restart it would pick up again. So after a few times restarting (normally, not forced), I started it up, and it went to the desktop background picture (no menus icons etc), and the mouse is there, and switches between the mouse, and the spinning wheel. The mouse will move, but that is the only response the computer will give.
I restarted from the install disk, ran permissions and disk repair, no issues found.
I would archive and install, but it requires 11 gigs and i only have 6 free.
I really need all the info on here for work, and i need the computer itself. I'm using an iBook G4 i had around the house now.
does anyone have any ideas? I have both computers here at work with me all day. Will target disk mode work between the G4 and the intel? Any ideas are more than welcome

    Hello again:
I think you perhaps missed something. This is a description about what an archive and install does:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
After an A&I you should have a completely operational system. You will, of course, need to run software update to bring things up to current levels.
If you did it correctly, the A&I installed a fresh copy of OS X and preserved your files, programs, and settings. The rather large +"previous system"+ folder (45 GB seems large, but possible, based on what you posted earlier) contains everything of yours before the archive and install. You can think of it as a safety net. The thing is not bootable, but allows you, if something was missed somehow, to retrieve it. That folder may be safely trashed after things are running well (I usually suggest 3 weeks or so). However, in your case and the inadequate HD space (4 GB is clearly not enough), I would throw caution to the winds and trash it right away. Being the cautious person I am, I would probably try to put it on a DVD (unless you have an external drive).

  • Flash CS6 Trial (Mac Lion) won't start up...

When I launch the program, the splash screen loads up to the point of "Loading Accelerators" and becomes unresponsive.  I have to Force Quit the application and never get to use the software.
What can I do to identify and solve the issue?

I have the same issue (only intermittent) but I have a licensed install, no error on install. This started on my Mac OS 10.7.4 after recent update to Flash CS6. No problem on my PC. With tenacity I do sometimes get it to launch (takes over 60 seconds). No clue yet as to the issue.

  • Mountain lion won't download, stuck at 142mb

I've been trying for months to download Mountain Lion, it keeps stalling at 142mb. any ideas?

The Apple Store idea is probably the best. Do you have access to another network using another ISP (friend's house?) where you can try the download again? Needs to be someone who has a Mac. You can then put the download on a USB stick and install it on your iMac.
You can also try resetting the App Store.

  • Lion won't start after FileVault initial reboot

Im on a 17" MacBook pro (not i7) with the latest version of lion. I decided to try FileVault, turned it on and set it up as per the on screen instructions. It then asked to rebook which I did. It came to the login screen again after reboot and I put in my password and it wen to a whitish screen with a small grey "no entry" symbol and a spinning wheel below that. Stayed like that for half an hour so I force restarted as I understood it was meant to encrypt in the background) and it did the same thing. Any ideas anyone?

It seems that my partition table is corrupted. The question now is. How to fix it?

OK now i'm frustrated beyond all belief, i'm about to go throw this MBP at someone at the apple store
I cleared room (about 18gigs in total) and did an archive and install.
So now I have all my files/preferences in a "Previous Systems" folder.
So my mac looks like a new mac, minus the ~45 gig folder, doing nothing, and i'm down to 4 free gigs (18 before i archived/installed)
So now that I've archived and installed, how do i get my programs, preferences etc back to where they were? I can't just drag and drop because it wants to copy everything instead of move it.
I'm beyond frustrated at this point. and i don't think my boss is too happy that all i've been doing all day is screwing around with this pos computer.(which wasn't priced as a pos!!)

Please help - I tried save mode but didn't work..

You need to be more descriptive with your post. At this point we know very little to nothing.

  • Lion won't start after EFI update

I installed the new EFI update for my MBA Mid 2011 (the software updater said it is recomended). The update went fine and restarted the mac afterwards.
Then while booting the apple logo turns to a grey forbidden sign and nothing happens from there. I turned the mac off and tried again. Same thing.
Then I booted the recovery partition and tried to repair my disk. It says that it can't repair the disk because it is corrupted.
Please don't tell me I have to erase the disk. There is some unbackuped data on it and I can't get it out using a linux-live because my disk is encrypted.

It seems that my partition table is corrupted. The question now is. How to fix it?

  • Macbook Pro won't start after Mountain Lion download.

Downloaded Mountain Lion for my 2007-08 Macbook Pro. Internet was painfully slow (60kb/sec, usually 15 mgb/sec). After not using it a week while vacationing, I started it up, and it was working fine until it randomly shut down and brought up an error screen (hence the reason it shut down) and asked if I wanted to boot normally. I powered it down; now it won't start at all. Power button doesn't work, demounting the battery for a minute and remounting doesn't work, nothing works. I have a genius bar appointment soon, but am wondering if anyone has some advice.

Close problem - I believe the problem is RAM is storing your last data, and not releasing it, so you cannot boot it. Trying removing RAM fully, then starting.
