Lions server creates an untrusted connection

Hey,
I've you got my of Mac OSX Lion plus the server addition so I can replace XAMPP as my server software. The problem however is that for some weird reason whenever I try to connect to my server I get a untrusted connection error with the message:
192.168.1.110 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is not trusted.
The certificate is only valid for Allans-iMac.local
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
I've set my server to use nitrocrime.com as my domain (I've bought this domain a couple of months ago and have been using it for my XAMPP server) but after I did that this error appeared. Even (as you can tell) connecting through our local network or just my iMac itself I get this error.
How can I remove this?
Greats,
Allan Hollenberg

Going to need more information about the certificate and Active Directory. Is the VPN connection secure with TLS for authentication or encryption? If so, where did the certificates comes from? An internal CA or purchased externally?Which servers have the
problem? Just the one server reporting the issue? Which server is it attempt to replicate from?

  • Progression to Lion Server ?

We are looking to upgrade our Server from 10.6 to Lion Server and have a few questions that we cannot find answers to. Was hoping someone here might be able to help.
    A. After initial download/install and connection to Apple for Profile Manager Push Certification, does Lion Server require to be connected to the internet?
    B. Does Lion Server work with OS X 10.5, 10.6 clients?  (everything I find mentions 10.7 clients but not earlier)
    C. Has anyone had any issues with Lion Server and the internal RAID of a intel XServe [Xeon circa 2006/2007]?
Any answers would be helpful, thanks.

Its not as missing as not working as expected.
    Ill try make som examples...
I cannot connect with VNC anymore because something with the protocoll changed. May be a bad setting hopefully.
    MYSQL was scrapped and replaced.
Webserver: Odd stuff going on here... Cannot remove default site, I cannot understand how to create a reverse proxy site, I dont understand how to allow a subsite to show files directly without a start page, I dont understand how to set a start page (if you for example got index.php and index.htm or index.html - which one is default?
Wiki stuff got corrupted on SLS upgrade - works fine on raw install. Not that I use this anyways...
In general -  every module got about 3 settings now (yes I exaggerate a bit now) compare to lots of settings in SLS.
You can probably edit apache files directly but I dont want to do that. I want my cookie cutter gui to give me the easy to use life I had with SLS

  • Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface I created in Server Hardware Network Dialogue window. Are link aggregated ethernet connections not supported in Lion Server?

Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface i created. Does Lion server support ethernet link aggregated interfaces?

    Thanks for responding Cold--
Hardware: Mac Pro  3.0 GHZ quad core xeon
I read the link but it still does not explain why the aggregated dual ethernet interface does not show up in the Network tab of the hardware section Lion Server. I was able to see it on the network and looks to be using a single static IP that I assigned. My concern was that is this supported and will it allow for failover and double performance of the single network interface.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again!

  • Lion Server: iOS 5 clients can't connect to Address Card Server

I have set up shared accounts on the server for Calendar and Address Book (family) sharing. Although I can add and use the Address Book shared account on OS X Lion clients, I can't get this to work on iOS 5 clients (iPhone nor iPad). I keep on getting "CardDAV account verification failed".
Calendar sharing works just fine on both OS X and iOS5 clients
Let me briefly describe my setup and observations:
    Server:
Running Lion Server 10.7.2 on Mac Mini (server)
Using SSL connections with keys generated during set-up of the server
Portforwarding in router (ao) for 8008 and 8843 (iCal and Address Book)
Created  shared accounts on server for Calendar ("sharedcalendar") and Address Book ("sharedcontacts")
In the DNS server I created services in my primary zone for "_caldavs._tcp." and "_carddavs._tcp." both on port 8443
    OS X Client (Calendar)
Created additional CalDAV account in preferences (user "sharedcalendar")
Left the server settings untouched (server path, port "auto" and using SSL but not Kerberos)
Created in "sharedcalendar" different calendars and reminder lists for the family members which each can access from their OS X client
This account is now set-up through Profile Manager (tried this with Address Book as well but didn't make any difference)
    iOS 5 Client (Calendar)
Once tested on standalone and got this working I'm now using the Profile Manager to push the definition of the shared account to all clients
    Hostname with port 8443 (default)
Left Principal URL blank since it was optional
User "shared calendar" with the appropriate password
    Ticked "Use SSL"
    OS X client (Address Book)
Created additional CardDAV account in preferences (user "sharedcontacts").
Left the server settings untouched (port 443 using SSL)
    iOS 5 client (Address Book)
In the settings add a CardDAV account (server, user "sharedcontacts", password, description).
First error message "Cannot connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?". When I press continue I get the error "CardDAV account verification failed"
If I then save the account details still and edit the account I can access the "advanced settings". When I change to SSL I have tried port 0 (default value), 8443 (the one that's listed in the documentation) and 8843 (which is used by default if you try to set up the
account in Profile Manager). All to no avail, including Profile Manager
    Observations:
Lion Server app nicely lists both Calendar and Address Book Server as active (plus Profile Manager, File Server, Web server and Wiki server)
When I access my server home page, Calendar is listed in addition to other services (Mail | Calendar | Change Password | Profile Manager) but not Address Book. Is this normal behaviour? i.e. can't Address Book entries be changed through a web interface?
Address Book on OS X client uses 443 for SSL but does not require me to define port 8443 for secure iCal or Address Book server communications
Lion Server Profile Manager specifies port 8843 as port for SSL communication. I only saw 8443 listed in documentation
The response "can't connect .." or "account verification failed" happens very quick which make me think either the verification doesn't even leave the iPad or there is something wrong in the SSL connection
Since iCal set-up works nicely using the same ports I am puzzled why it doesn't work for Address Book
Your solutions or suggestions how to investigate are most welcome,
    Erik

    Thanks for joining the discussion.
Although port 8443 is mosten quoted as correct port for CalDAV and CardDAV, port 8843 can be found both on Apple's website and other places:
see Technical Note 1649 to find port 8443 listed for iCal and port 8843 for Address Book
Mac OS X Lion Server for Dummies (sic) lists port 8843 on pages 236 and 238 but port 8443 in many other places
when you want to push iCal and Address Book information with Profile Manager, Profile Manager lists port 8443 for iCal but port 8843 for Address Book as default:
So I hope you understand I'm somewhat puzzled.
I did get the Address Book working for my Lion desktops with the all the necessary certificates as far as I know, just not for the iOS devices (iPhone and IpPad). iCal sharing from Lion Server works fine on both Lion and iOS devices.

  • Creating a simpel network with Lion Server, and add Windows XP computers to it

We have a Mac Lion Server and 3 computers with Windows XP. Previously we had a Windows 2003 server with a domain name: "MYDOMAIN". When logging into Windows it logs into this domain.
I would like to replace this Windows 2003 server with my new Mac Lion server so, I build up a test setup. I connected the Mac Lion server (iMac) with my Windows XP pc with an ethernet cable. Then, I setup a DHCP, DNS and Open directory in the Server Admin. Added users. I configured the IP adres of the server to a static one by setting the IPv4 to "using DHCP with manual address".
Then I wanted to let my Windows XP server join the domain of the Lion Server, however I cannot let my Windows XP client connect to the domain of the Lion Server.
I read in the advanced administration that you can set up Windows XP for domain login. Where do I find the name of this domain? It should be stated in the server admin, open directory, settings, general tab, but the only thing I find here is: Role: Open Directory Master.
In Windows XP, when I explore in explorer the Microsoft-Windows Network I can see in "MYDOMAIN" the MacLion Server and my Windows XP pc. So sharing files is no problem.
However, I really want to create a new domain with my Lion Server and let the Windows XP pc's login to the new domain.
I hope anyone can help me.

    Thanks for the info.
I read some stuff about this indeed, so I was thinking, because we have a small network, could it be possible to share files on the server via a workgroup?
If we add the 3 Windows XP pc's to the same workgroup as the Lion Server, would there be a problem?
Then at startup of Windows XP, should we login to the pc instead of the domain? And where would I find the Lion server in Windows XP?

  • I updated to mountain lion and now mail cannot connect to my server

I updated to mountain lion and now mail cannot connect to my server.  It says check your user name and password are correct.  Well they are, and were.  Nothing has changed except the mac OS.
Has anyone else suffered this and knows a way around it?  Too annoying to log into my mail every 15mins via a web page anymore.
Efforts tried to resolve this so far:
retyped user name and password, removed account and created a new account, restarted computer, software update, searched forums.  so far all have proved unsuccessful.
I have also written to my mail provider and am waiting for feed back from them, but if anyone has any advice it would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

Many users upgrading to Mountain Lion have run into this problem, myself included.  You likely have corrupted settings for your  "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" for each of the failed Accounts.  Open Mail>go to Mail's Preferences>Accounts>select an Account in the left column to work on>then set up your Outgoing Mail Server which will INCLUDE resetting up your Password, as its asking you to.  Click on "SMTP Outgoing Mail Server" near the bottom of the Accounts window while your mail account is highlighted in the left hand column.  When you click on SMTP... you will see a drop down box icon offered at the right side of the line.  Click it and then select at the bottom of the the list "Edit SMTP Mail Server".  Fill in the required settings for your ISP mail account using their recommended settings.

  • Sharing only users cannot connect to Lion Server

    Dear all,
I stumbled across a funny problem, that I tried to resolve all day. I just wanted to add a sharing only user for my girlfriends new MacBook that she could use to connect to a shared Time Machine Volume.
If I add a new standard user, this user can connect to my server via finder (connect as...) and see the shared drives. If the same user tries to connect to the Time Machine Backup Volume via the settings dialog, it receives an error message (OSStatus-error 5).
If I add a sharing only user, this user cannot connect via finder or Time Machine (same error). The clients console states the following error message:
/System/Library/CoreServices/NetAuthAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/NetAuthAgent[2471]      AFP error -5018 mapped to EIO
    Does anybody have an Idea?

That is my point.  Yes, Apple still lets you add users via users and groups in system preferences but that is not how you should be adding users.  I've seen nothing but trouble when that option is used to add users and I believe that the Lion server docs say to not use that.  If you are using lion server why not use it the way it was meant to be.  Just create a account in OD and only give her access to the Time Machine Service and none of the others.

  • Step-by-step to set up vpn on the lion server and then connect a computer running 10.6?

I've recently bought the Lion server. Checking VPN and adding my static IP sounds easy enough.
I then went home to my computer running 10.6, opened the system preferences, added vpn under network.
I guess I have to choose LTP2? What would be the network name? I left it as the filled in "VPN (L2TP)".
As the server address I put my static IP. Account name - is that my user name from the file sharing network
I created in the server software? That's what I used, and added the password for that user account under
Authentification settings, plus the shared secret, I had copied from the server.
Once I apply these settings and try to connect I get the message that the server is not responding and to try to reconnect.
Can anyone fill i the blancs? Obviously I'm missing some stuff inbetween, but canot find answers online.
I guess this is too basic for a forum, but where does one start to learn this stuff??
Do I need to open specific ports on my router connected to the server network? It does say "vpn is enabled" in the
    setup window.
Do I need to create a certificate of some sorts and plce it somewhere?
Do I need tp upgrade my other computer to Lion? I created a "VPN.mobileconfig" file on the server, but when I copy
and open it on a machine running 10.6 it doesn't install anything and just opens up in text edit as a bunch of code.
    Please help!

Same problem here. Just bought the Mac Mini Server with Lion OS X 10.7.2 and created this vpn.mobileconf file. This file seems to do what it supposed to do when I double clicked it while still on the server. Hence copying it over and double clicking it on my MacBook Pro made the texteditor open the file showing the actual contents of it. Trying to import it into my network preference settings wasn't possible either since the file showed grayed out. It seems the operating system on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8) doesn't recognize it as the correct file type. Entering the settings of the vpn.mobileconf file manually on the Laptop doesn't work either. Time for OS X 10.6.9?

  • I have a new lion server and 4 lion laptops. The laptops loose connection to the shared documents and printers from the server after roughly 1 hour. By disconnecting and re-connecting wireless the connection is regained to shares and printers

I have a new lion server and 4 lion laptops. The laptops loose connection to the shared documents and printers from the server after roughly 1 hour. By disconnecting and re-connecting wireless the connection is regained to shares and printers. We can still surf the web when it goes down.

Ok 1st one. The warning restriction message relates to this line in main.cf:
    smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated  permit_mynetworks  check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/helo_access  reject_non_fqdn_hostname  reject_invalid_hostname  permit reject_invalid_helo_hostname
The last reject occurs after the single word "permit" and is ignored.
    However, that's not the problem.
I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but this might be a clue.
It would appear that either postfix is not being able to create the socket for private/policy or it's somehow created with the wrong permissions.  You might need to ramp up the debug level to get a better idea.
You could check if it's being created by "netstat -a | grep private/policy" in terminal.
My guess is that it's not being created because there is no setup statement in your master.cf file, but I don't understand why postfix would be looking for it if it isn't set up.  Private/policy I think relates to grey listing.  Maybe gives you a hint.

  • Lion Server: new user can't connect

This is a local ethernet network, Mac Mini running Lion Server 10.7.4.
I created 2 new users with Server app, same specs as already existing users, but can't connect to the server with the new id's. I just don't undrestand what I'm missing. The old id's all work perfectly when I try to connect.

Check your Services' ACL with Server Admin. It may happen that the new users are included in groups which are allowed for some services, but the new users are not included automatically in this group.

  • How to Create lion os x Image for netrestore in mountain lion server

i have a problem with the create a lion os x image for netrestore in mountain lion server, i have a macbook pro with all software that i like for the customize deployment but when i connect the macbook pro to macmini server in target mode, but  the system image utility don't added to sources for create a netrestore image, this only pass with lion os x because with mountain lion os x works correctly, please help me

System Image Utility only makes images of the system it ships with.
In order to make Lion images, you'll need to install the Server Admin Tools for Lion onto a Lion system. You will then find the appropriate System Image Utility in /Applications/Server/.

Simplest way is to write the program to create anew thread to handle each client
when the ServerSocket accepts a new connection a new thread should be created and that will handle the client. The main threadshould go back to accept next client
    while(true){
       Soeket socket = serverSocket.acept();
new ClientHandler(socket).start(); /ClientHandler is the class that should be handling the communication with the client
    }

  • Lion clients connectivity to lion server 10.7.4

i have been having issues connecting Lion clients running 10.7.4 to the mac mini running lion server 10.7.4
The issue started after i did a clean install of lion server. I configured everything correctly by downloading server admin tools, turning on the open directory, and creating a master open directory for the server. i then created both a test account and a generic account to see if the accounts will work when a client trys to connect. The lion clients had no issue connecting to the server but when the Mac would restart, a red dot would come on the side saying all network accounts are unavailable. I am not sure what is happening and yes i have checked the DNS portion and everything is in working order.

Can you boot into the Recovery HD?  If so, run both
Disk Repair and Repair permissions on the OSX volume.
Also, if you have a bootable clone of your previous install,
try booting into it and see if the problem persists.
If you have a Time Machine backup, try to restore to
    a point before the upgrade.

  • Trouble connecting to Lion server AFP shares after changing server's hostname

    Hello everyone,
I recently changed hostname of my Lion server box (via Server application) and now my clients are having a problem when trying to connect to its AFP shares via aliases. It takes 160 seconds of "resolving alias to <sharename>" before it finally works. Aliases were created by navigating to the server, connecting with "Connect As", providing valid credentials, then navigating one level up and dragging the share icon (blue disk with three white people outlines) to the Desktop with Option-Command.
What is interesting, if I create a new account on a client machine, create an alias, and click on it - it works without any delay, as it was for the clients that are having problems now; so I'm assuming some details about the previous server name got cached somewhere.
The clients with long delay problems can access the shares quickly if they click on the server in the Finder window drawer, then "Connect As" and provide their login credentials - it works instantly then.
I've been digging around quite a bit (deleting Keychain saved Network passwords for any and all references to the server I could find), and also by looking at kerberos logs on the server. What is interesting, the newly created clients I mention above who don't have delay with connecting, don't leave any records in the kerberos log file; but the ones that have 160 second delay do - there's nothing for 160 seconds, and then there is a flurry of activity, as the connection is finally established.
When a client who has trouble connecting uses the "Connect As" method described above, entries in the Kerberos log are created instantly when client clicks connect.
Probably also worth noting that renaming of the server was related to me setting up Open Directory on it.
Any pointers would be greatly apprecited.

I experienced almost exactly the problems you described. I also found that connecting via command line using mount_afp worked right away... and once the connection is established, mounting via finder was super fast.
Tried all kinds of craziness on the client, even a full Time Machine restore.
    Tried fixing Open Directory.
I was absolutely stumped by what was happening, but then thought, Hmm. I'm wondering if it's related to MobileMe going down? I noticed it started to happen after July 31...
Success! That was it! Signing out of MobileMe in System Preferences made everything work the way it should!
CDPlayer2: check if the clients are signed in to MobileMe, and if signing out fixes things - I'd appreciate it if you could post your results. Thanks.

  • I am trying to allow guests on windows to connect to shares on my Lion server but it keeps asking for a password for guest. I have allow guest users to access this share enabled but it still does not work.

I am trying to allow guests on windows to connect to shares on my Lion server but it keeps asking for a password for guest. I have allow guest users to access this share enabled but it still does not work.

Ditto. Guest accounts shouldn't have a password. No way to enter one in System Prefs...
