Liquify and ATI Drivers on an iMac.

Hello,
This is driving me insane, so i would appreciate any help at all.
There is a SERIOUS problem with PS CS6 and ATI HD 5750.
Liquify tool does not work...
Here are the details:
iMac i7
16 GB RAM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB
Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
What happens is that the moment i enter Liquify's UI the mouse stops moving!!!!
I only have mouse movement to the left and to the right (to choose or tweak brush sizes etc.)
but when the mouse is over the image, the crosshairs are frozen, no movement at all!!!
If i try to liquify something on the image it does not work.
The only way to make Liquify work, is to disable "Use Graphics Processor" in PS preferences.
So, this is clearly a driver issue, the thing is that ATI driver updates (for HD5750 ON iMacs) come directly from Apple and there is no available download on Amd's site, so i actually can't upgrade drivers myself....
I should also mention the following:
I have both Production Premium 5.5 and 6 installed on the same machine
I had PS CS6 beta installed, but i removed it (using the uninstaller - The Adobe way) prior to the Production premium CS6 installation.
The Liquify tool had the exact same problem in PS CS6 Beta (I was running 10.7.3 at that time), but i didn't mention anything, i thought it was just a bug with the Beta version.
It's also worth mentioning that the Liquify tool in PS CS 5.5 works just fine. (probably because it doesn't use GPU accel.)
Othen than that, i am really dissapointed and frustrated with the whole CS6 experience so far...
I couldn't even install PP CS6 at first, and i was forced to reboot the iMac in safe mode to complete the installation.
I would really appreciate any help, i'm stuck.
Thank you.

On the one hand, Apple users benefit from Apple taking on the responsibility of integrating everything together so there's minimum fuss.  On the other hand, sometimes you have to wait for solutions that work, where a PC user has more options...  I had trouble with Liquify using the latest ATI drivers (on my PC), so I just uninstalled them and installed a version they released 2 months ago that works…
Noel,
One can do similar stuff on the Mac too, provided you really, really know what you're doing.  What's more, not only can you use .kext files from previous OS versions, but you can even hack them or roll your own.  One notable case was the set of applefan.kext files provided by an outfit called macgeniuses to cool down the Power Mac MDD G4 for purposes of running a mutant, flashed graphics card they sold for it.  One has to be superextra careful though, or you'll turn the machine into an extremely noisy air filter or you can literally fry the cpu and gpu in no time.

  • Have both nividia and ati drivers?

I have had a look around but i cannot find a way to do so.
I am installing arch onto my usb stick and want to run it from both my laptop and desktop, unfortunately my laptop has an ati card and desktop has nvidia
    i did
    pacman -S nvidia
    and when i try to
    pacman -S xf86-video-ati
It wants to remove nvidia-utils. Anyone got a solution?

Don't know that it would work, but if none of the above works, I wonder if you could setup a dual-boot system on the USB drive and choose between the ATI system and the nVidia system at boot time?  You could probably share a /home folder or partition between the two systems.

  • Two questions: Compiz causes system to freeze and ati drivers

    Hi everyone.
I have an ati integrated motherboard x1200 video card (r690 chipset), and of course arch64.
    The first question:
When I activate compiz the system freezes randomly. I found an archwiki page where they put the following:
System freeze with ATI Express cardsI had to edit /etc/xorg.conf to avoid a system freeze with my PCI-Express ATI X700:
         Section "Device"
           Identifier  "AtiGraphicsCard"
           Driver      "fglrx"
           # I had to add these 2 options
           Option      "UseInternalAGPGART" "no"
           Option      "KernelModuleParm" "agplock=0"
           BusID       "PCI:1:0:0"
         EndSection
I had to add those 2 Options to get it working properly. Other ATI PCI Express are reported to be affected too. (X200, X300, X600, X700, X1400... and possibly others)
I can't do that, because i don't have a xorg.conf file. The only way to change some parameters is with the driconf application, but i haven't found any documentation about those parameters...
And the second question: if i have an ati x1200 video card, which open source driver i have to install?
I have installed the xf86-video-ati. I wonder if that is the correct one.
    Thanks.

Hyugga wrote:I' ve been using my arch64 with compiz with the "indirect-rendering" option activated and there is no freezes for now.
So, what is indirect-rendering anyways? Some one can explain it to me?
    Thanks for the reply.
Your system is doing all of the 3D rendering in software in your CPU rather than using the direct method of using the GPU in your video card.  It is  slow and makes the CPU bandwidth unavailable for other things.

  • Testing: ATI drivers for xorg7 - packages renamed.

I've just uploaded a new set of ati drivers *hopefully* compatible with xorg7, to testing. It's impossible for me to test, I havn't got an ATI card, so your feedback is vital.
What's also important about this is that they use a new naming setup.
The userspace tools and xorg stuff are in 'ati-drivers',
The kernel modules in ati-drivers-arch, and ati-drivers-archck.
So to install ati drivers, you are best to pacman -S ati-drivers-kernel, where kernel is your kernel. This will bring in ati-drivers too.
After installing, it is important that you make a symlink from /usr/X11R6/lib/modules to /usr/lib/xorg/modules, othweise direct rendering will not work.
    Thankyou for your patience.

  • Ati-drivers-arch. ATI for stock kernel.

Despite the fact I love everyone using my ArchCK because it has ATI drivers, ATI drivers now work on the stock kernel too.
S1G1 made a package and put it in the AUR, which I have since adopted and put into community.
Over the next few days as the mirrors sync, you will be able to get the ati driver for the vanilla kernel, by installing, 'ati-drivers-arch' from community.

Setup is the same as with initrd, except you edit /etc/mkinitramfs.conf and run mkinitramfs auto
good to know.. but I'd need the archck kernel on an install cd for that, wouldn't I? Which it normally isn't afaik. Or does the stock one support initrd and initramfs?
But anyhow, I already experienced the very same problem in enemy-territory and quake3 with kernel26archck-2.6.15 and ati-drivers

  • Powersave and open-source ATI drivers

    Hi everybody, another ATI-driver-issue here...
I have a laptop with an HD3470 graphic card. Before Xorg 1.6 I used the catalyst drivers from the main repository, and I was quite happy. After the upgrade to the new Xorg i moved to open drivers, but I have some complaints about power saving features. I hear a fan spinning at high speed (I suppose it's VGA fan), and the keyboard becomes very hot; battery life seems considerably shorter than before. According to this:
    http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature
radeonhd doesn't have any power save feature implemented yet, so I installed the  xf86-video-ati driver which should implement most of the Powerplay features. But I saw no big difference between radeonhd and ati.
Does anyone know if the powersaving in ati is to be enabled in some way? Or how efficient it is, compared to the closed driver?
    Thanks

I've been able to install catalyst 9.5 from AUR. There's no contest: proprietary driver is king in power managment, up to now. My laptop ran damn hot with the open driver, now it is noticeably cooler. I've no data about battery life but I suppose it's increased.
It's a pity that open drivers that are so good in features completely lack power saving, which is a priority in my opinion even in desktops...

  • X11 and open source ATI drivers

Hi. Well I have a little(big) broblem. I have ATI Radeon x1600 video card, and I need open source video drivers (not fglrx). I installed it by the article at archlinux wiki:
    Open Source ATI Drivers
The open source drivers will work to some degree on Radeon chipsets up to the Radeon X850. Radeons up to the 9200 series are fully featured, stable, with full 2D and 3D acceleration. Radeons from 9500 to X850 have full 2D acceleration, the y provide 3D acceleration as well but it doesn't support all the features that the proprietary drivers do. A full list of supported chipsets can be found here.
    [edit]
    Installation and Configuration
The package is xf86-video-ati. Note: if you have previously installed the proprietary driver make sure to remove fglrx, fglrx-beyond, and fglrx-utils.
    pacman -S xf86-video-ati libgl-dri
Edit your xorg.conf, and add or make sure you have the following in their given sections. For
    Section "Module"
    Load "glx"
    Load "dri"
    Load "drm"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "name" # your alias
    Driver "radeon"
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true" #needed for aiglx
    EndSection
    Section "DRI"
    Group "video"
    Mode 0660
    EndSection
When using this driver, make sure you do not have fglrx-utils installed but use libgl-dri instead. Otherwise you'll have the wrong libGL.so which will cause direct rendering not to work.
So I did all this crap and i get, when i tryed to start X:

    Any help? =/

I may be wrong, but I dont think the open source drivers support the X1xxx series cards.
If I am wrong, then make doubly sure you actually did install xf86-video-ati and libgl-dri.  Then, maybe try starting from a fresh Xorg.conf by running this as root in the console (without X started):
    cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
    X -configure
    mv xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
And see if that works, if it does, slowly build on top of it, until you have your desired result

  • How to Install ATI drivers and apps using MDT 2010

Hi, I am a greenhand for the Windows7 deployment via MDT.
I am currently facing an issue, I downloaded the ATI drivers from Dell Offical website (I am using Dell laptop), they I extracted the driver files using the 7zip, then imported the files to the MDT Out-of-box drivers, but this could only import the driver files,
for the application, MDT couldnot import.
Is there anyway to import the both Drivers and App of the ATI together to MDT, thus when deploying the windows, the drivers and app of ATI can be installed along with the Windows OS.
Appreciate your comments/suggestions. thanks in advance.

  • Apple and ATI aware of iMac freezing issue

Now they just need to figure out how to fix it.
Here is a post from today by one of the Blizzard mac techs on the Mac Support forum of the World of Warcraft forums:
There are at least two sides to customer support.
One is, identifying issues that need to be fixed. In this case (ATI
driver bug) that task is done. ATI and Apple are aware of the issue and
working on it, I confirmed that with them today.
Two is, finding a way to provide short term relief of the issue if at
    all possible.
Since we can't make a driver update appear in seconds, bear with us if
we make suggestions that may in fact improve stability for you until a
    more lasting fix is available.
    "

    wawalulu,
If you can wait a few weeks for Apple and ATI to sort out the graphics driver problems, that might be your best bet. With any new model it does take Apple a couple months to iron out the glitches so when this happens, you will have a pretty solid Mac.
I work supporting both Macs and PC's where the user base is in the thousands and I will tell you on the whole, Macs are definitely more trouble-free than PC's. However, I won't candy coat things like some of the posters on this forum. There WILL be issues that will crop up but usually Apple does the right thing and fixes them. Sending feedback and patience is the key. When the new Leopard OS (10.5) comes out this month, I guarantee there will be issues due to it's newness and lack of maturity. However, if Apple's past track record is any indication, it shouldn't have anywhere near the issues Windows Vista has. We won't even support Vista where I work because it's so troublesome!
BTW, my 20" late 2006 iMac I use at work has been rock solid. This is because it's a revised version of the original intel iMac Apple released so most of the bugs were worked out. The G5 tower I had before that was perfect as well as the G4 and G3 towers I used before that. All of these Macs were at least second revision of their respective model lines. If memory serves, all of them has some teething pains in their first revisions.
I have a new 20" aluminum iMac at home, breaking my cardinal rule to never buy the first revision of a new product and it does have the graphics freezing issue talked about in these threads but it's only happened twice. So, I knew full well what I was getting into and am patiently waiting for Apple to release an update and fix the issue. Why did it have to be so... darn... sexy?!
I'll end this post on the following note: I use Macs at home precisely because I don't want to spend time fixing things... because I do that all day at work! If there was a better computer and OS out there, I'd be using it!

  • Problems with ATI drivers and gnome3?

I've tried to install gnome3 off of the gnome-unstable repo (sudo pacman -S gnome-unstable/gnome gnome-unstable/gdm I'm assuming that's the proper command). However, when GDM starts, my screen just flashes a cursor, goes blank, turns off, and repeats. Is there a problem with ATI drivers or is the package just not working at all right now?

I'm also having troubles with Catalyst and gnome3 (I'm ussually in i3 btw) just playing with it tho. Seems to detect my graphics as 'VESA: JUNIPER" which probably means it's using some sort of fallback, eitherway it's not very functional and messes with my X server a bit
EDIT: I can get into gnome, but there's a lot of flickering doing anything, should proabaly check for bugs on their tracker
EDIT2: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 89#p913189 <--- looks like that might be gaining some traction, something to watch
EDIT3: This bug and This Bug might be relevent, not too recent tho
    And another one
    so yeah..... ATI

  • MSI 4670 Video Card and NVIDIA/ATI drivers on K8NGM2-FID

I installed an MSI R4670-2D512 video card yesterday and had a problem with drivers that I'd like to understand better.  What I did was uninstall all the NVIDIA drivers, install the board, install the ATI drivers, and update the ATI drivers (with reboots).  In the end, I had no LAN connection, and XP's hardware warnings (and Device Manager) showed no "Other PCI Bridge," "SM Bus Control," and "Video Controller."  Reinstalling drivers from the motherboard's CD got all those going again, but I'm wondering if that's created any underlying NVIDIA/ATI conflicts.  I've disabled GeForce 6150 under Display Adapters, leaving the 4670.  That covers the video controller, but should I do the same for the other two?  And should I have even needed any of the three?  Thanks.

    Show us what you mean.
Actually, I misspoke: video controller and Display Adapters were in different categories.  What do you want to see?  Under Display Adapters, both the ATI 4670 and GeForce 6150 are listed.  I disabled the latter (right click, disable), so there's a red X through it now.  The three yellow '?' that were under Device Mgr > "Other Devices" are no longer there.  They were listed at the time under "Other Devices," but once those motherboard CD's drivers were reloaded they dispersed to other locations with new names and the Other Devices category disappeared.  I'm guessing one of those three is now called the "NVidia NForce Networking Controller," since when the problem arose there was only a "1394 Net Adapter" under Network Adapters.  I couldn't find the other two, hence I wouldn't know what to show you.

  • ATI drivers, games are crashing

    Hi,
    I've got a new 24" iMac and i've got a problem
    with the ATI drivers.
    Bootcamp1.4/2.0-drivers haven't worked at all,
Games like Enemy Territory: Quake Wars couldn't
start "The current video card / driver combination does not support the necessary features: GLARB_occlusionquery"
then i tried official(mobility modded) and omega drivers,
    "Doesn't support wglChoosePixelFormatARB".
    Then i tried this instructions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5659265#5659265
    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1017&message=24987376
and Quake Wars started. I was even able to play Half-Life1-based games like
    Team Fortress Classic.
But now there is another problem, my games are crashing after an indefinite amount of time.
I played ET:QW and it crashed after ~10 minutes, i played Team Fortress 2 and
it crashed after ~7 minutes, Portal even crashed after ~3 minutes.
What to do now, i just reinstalled Windows 2 days ago,
so don't force me to do it again.
    Thanks,
    myuu
PS: I downloaded Bootcamp 2.0-drivers through torrent,
so don't wonder, even if i use OSX Tiger at the moment.

I tried installing omega drivers the same way
but it still crashes after some minutes.

  • Ati drivers no longer work after upgrade

I was trying to mount a vfat partition the other day, to copy files from a friends USB drive. It would not mount no matter what I did. I had found out that for some reason, the last kernel that I updated to did not have the proper character set enabled in it before it was compiled. I noticed there was a new kernel, and decided what the heck, and gave it the old pacman -Syu
I rebooted after this only to find my x server now crashes. So I did some research and it seems that there is a lot of complaints about this new xorg 1.5. So I thought about downgrading, but decided against it. I did a hwd -x, and copied over the xorg.conf.vesa, and restarted X. It worked. I then tried with the ati driver and it doesnt work.
So I am using x, with the vesa driver. And I can view videos (these were the files I wanted to copy from my friends USB drive. Although I can now mount it, and have copied them fine.)
    Here is some output

BTW, when the xserver fails, I select yes to see the output, and it skips the output and tells me to re-enable x when I have configured it properly. So I cant seem to get you that information.

I am not impressed by the update problems I have been having recently. I've been using arch for a while now, and everything has gone smooth exept for the last 2 months, I have had about 5 seperate issues. Not sure if im the only one feeling this. Might be my set up who knows.

The xorg.conf.ati was renamed to xorg.conf. I had named it back when it didnt work. And renamed xorg.conf.vesa to xorg.conf to have a usable x session.
Here is my output for Xorg.0.log

    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
I have tried to remove the xorg.conf and retry the x server. It opens but I have no keyboard or mouse control and the resolution is incredibly small (640.480?). I can not log in, or change to any tty because of a lack of keyboard, and I am stuck rebooting my computer, which results in a fsck and all that good stuff.
As for the gnome-terminal problem, I managed t get around it by removing the package, updating my system, and reinstalling gnome-terminal. I wanted to try that since there were new ATI drivers waiting to be installed. But the new ATI drivers do not seem to do me justice. :S
And sorry for not getting back right away. I was just using the VESA drivers to get me by. I had a lot of work to do before the holidays. And now im back on it.

  • 280x issue's since latest windows update/ati drivers

    Hello ,
Since a couple of days i have been having the weirdest issues with my system. It all started after i updated my windows and updated the ati drivers to 14.4. I would notice flickerings on both my monitors and out of nowhere when playing flash movies the screen goes berserk (always just the left monitor) :
    http://members.ziggo.nl/dannyvanschie/280/20140427_174313.jpg - look what i mean :
if i would kill the program (aka firefox) then 50% of the time the screen would recover.
I tried 14.4 ,14.3 and now im on 14.1 rc 1 hoping this will work , however its also flickering again , or when i open a browser you can see the second monitor jump up and down for just 1 second.
I removed all drivers with DDU and made sure i did that in safe mode so that could not be the issue aswell. It dont think its the PSU since its on 12v constantly when under heavy load and its just 3 weeks old.
could it be an bios issue ? is there a new vga bios available for my card ? And has anybody ever seen this issue before , since i havent and i have seen a lot of broken weird things haha.
Rest of my specs in the sig are still the same.
    cpu-z :
    http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/14/04/27/bn4.png
PSU has changed to a : 750w Be quiet (modulair)
    280x serial : 602-v277-28sb1311055531
    rom version : 015.040.000.000.003454-113(c8365000-x77)
(for rom and picture of serial & cpu-z screenshots : http://members.ziggo.nl/dannyvanschie/280/)

update 2 : had 1x the same as the first picture , do notice that according to gpu-z my gpu core is running at 500mhz atm... It stays that way even when playing BF4 , but BF4 itself is as smooth as a baby.
i have manually set the clock to 1050 / 1500mhz in msi overburner and the gpu-z sensors dont change , but still the game runs fluid.

  • Open ATI Drivers - Unable to initialise screen in normal boot

    Hi,
I've been having a bunch of trouble with my graphics card since installing a Radeon HD 6900 card. Neither the Catalyst driver or the Xorg Open ATI driver currently work. I've abbandoned the Catalyst drivers as just unwilling to work with Gnome 3 or any other compositing WM. So i've started up a fresh install of Arch using the Xorg Open ATI drivers.
    local/xf86-video-ati 1:6.14.6-1
    local/xorg-server 1.12.2-1
What i'm finding is weird, the Open ATI drivers fail to load X as they have for quite some time (displaying a weird garbled screen that has elements of colour from the login screen but is mostly garbage, in the latest version I can actually see the tail of the mouse stuck at the top of the screen and moving it across to the far right gives me the bottom few pixels of the mouse repeated in vertical lines all over the rest of the screen). However if I boot into failsafe mode it appears to load X normally. From what I can tell of the Xorg.0.log for both sessions I think it's loading the Xorg drivers in both settings but I'm not sure.
