Liquify layer and mask together

Hi
How do I get the liquify tool to target the layer and its mask together so they won't get out of sync? Right now I am only able to use liquify on a layer or its mask separately.
A bonus question - how do i get the liquify tool to display the layer with its mask applied (only seeing areas where the mask allows to)?
I've tried linking the layer and the mask - nothing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • Transforming layer and mask in Photoshop CC

    I've just upgraded to photoshop CC. I'm trying to resize (i.e. transform) a layer with a layer mask. I want to transform them together (the layer is linked to mask as it usually would vein this case). But when I transform it the layer gets resized independently from the mask, it's acting as if the layer and the mask are unlinked. If I click on the layer mask and resize, the same thing happens - it resizes independently of the layer itself. Why is this happening? And how do I now resize and layer and it's mask together??

    Have you tried converting that layer to a Smart Object and then resizing? (right click>Convert to Smart Object)

  • What is the purpose of the chain (lock symbol) between a solid color layer and its vector mask?

    What is the purpose of the chain (lock symbol) between a solid color layer and its vector mask in the layer panel when creating shape layers with a shape tool? I'm just curious when locking or unlocking the solid color layer and its vector mask can make a difference.

    I don't understand what you said and your shape layer looks different then mine using CS5.
    When the chain is deselected, I can't do anything with the move tool on the shape layer. This is the only difference I can find. Making the solid color uniform or not doesn't change anything.
    Your example shows that you moved the position of the solid color, how did you do that? I can create a solid color layer and change its uniform look by applying an effect like gradient but I can't move the solid color itself around. How is this possible?

  • After creating a mask on a pixel layer and then throwing it away, the pixels disapper

    If I create a mask on a pixel layer and then throw the mask away, the pixels under the old black mask disappear. Help! How do I fix this? I have already reset preferences. I am using the most current version of Photoshop CC 2014 on a Mac with OS 10.9.5

    Or just leave the layer mask in place.  It's a valuable recourse that you might need to use again.  The layer mask exists as an alpha channel.  It's there in the Channels panel when you click on the layer that contains the layer mask.  You might want to restrict an adjustment layer to the same area, or the inverse of that area.  It's not always convenient to do that by clipping — you might be targeting a layer way up the stack.
    OK, you can Ctrl click the layer if you removed the mask by Applying it, but it feels just plain wrong to me to throw a hard won selection in the dustbin.

  • How copy a layer and its layer mask to another image?

    Using PSE9, how can a copy a layer and its layer mask to another image?
    The on-line help contains a topic on how to copy a layer but trying the different methods in the help topic results in either nothing being copied or just the layer without its layer mask being copied.  Thanks.

    How are you copying?  If you float your images, so they are both partially visible in the work area, make the one with the to be copied layer active.  Then drag the layer from the layers palette onto the other image.  Now you should have both the layer and the mask on the second image.

  • Transforming paths and layers together? Hopefully someday...

    This is on my wish list for the next Photoshop version: One day, I would like to have the ability to transform a group of layers and a path together - at once. There is no other frustration than to create a very complex clipping path only to zoom out and realize that the bottom of the object in question needs to be skewed slightly. You know once you do that, that you will have to recreate the complete path again as you will never be able to match the skew exactly on the layers and then again on the path. Sigh....

    Click on the path, then Layer>Vector Mask>Current Path. You'll see a Vector Mask appear on your layer. Now, when resize or rotate the layer the path will do the same.

  • How to keep form field and label together?

    In InDesign Creative Cloud (ID CC), I need to create a 20 page form (a type of questionnaire). As a prelude to doing this, I created a one page form. I am trying to keep labels (text) and fields together, so that if I add a question in the middle of the form, everything else moves down and stays in the correct alignment and relationship. Here is what I tried.
    Option 1: Anchored Fields. I created fields on a "fields" layer and labels on a "text" layer. The text layer generally had tables to help me see where fields should be placed. However, to keep fields and text in the same relationship on the page, I anchored the field to the text. Hoewever, this has the effect of moving the field object into the same layer as the text. When I tried to use the Articles panel to put the fields in correct tab order, I discovered that only fields (unanchored) that were in the forms layer could be dragged into the Articles panel; anchored fields (now in the text layer) could not be dragged into the Articles panel. Why?
    I know that I could also use the Object / Interactive / Set Tabs Order command, but I wanted to use Articles to see how that works.
    In this approach, I also could not figure out how to put underline the text form field
    Option 2: Tabs and Character Styles. I used character styles for underlining by not using tables, but using paragraphs and tabs to align where the fields should be. I applied a character style to a right-justified tab to get the underline. However, using this option, whenever I add a new question (field + label or instruction) in the middle of the form, everything else down on the page goes out of alignment.
    What recommendations do other form designers have? I have been trying to think of how IRS has "dense" or "complex" forms, and how these might be designed in InDesign CC. in order to apply similar techniques to my form design.
    I am running on a Mac, OS X 10.8.4, InDesign CC.

    Unless I am gravely mistaken, isnt this what you want?
    for (int i = 0; i < folderList.size(); i++) {
       String folder = (String) folderList.get(i);
        System.out.println("Folder: " + folder);
        System.out.println ("Messages: " + folderMap.get (folder));
    }

  • Pen tool and masking in cs6.

    In previous versions I could create a custom (vector) mask using the pen tool in 2 easy steps.
    Draw a shape then drag that shape to the image i wanted the mask on. Done.
    This "feature" has been removed from CS6 and its extremely annoying. Or has it just become a lot more complicated to achieve this?
    I know i can create a clipping mask using the shape layer but that requires another visible layer in the layers panel. Having "roto'd" 50 elements in previous versions in the same workspace gave me 50 layers (cleaning up the solid black shapelayers after). In CS6 it gives me 100 layers.
    I know i can select the shape as a selection and then apply a mask but that would make the mask a solid. I want to be able to move my tangents around etc. 100% non-destructively.
    I work 100% non destructive and yes, my psd's become very large but thats no biggie, my computer can handle it. I don't want to rasterize.
    If you have CS5.5 or earlier versions, create a shape and drag that shape to the layer you want to mask, remove the fill layer and you'll see what i mean. Thats what i want to be able to do in CS6.
    Is this 100% gone from CS6?

    You are being affected by an almighty f**kup by the Photoshop CS6 User Interface designers.
    With CS6, Adobe try to pretend that Shape Layers are a wonderful new type of layer. The reality is that they are the old type Fill Layer with Vector Mask and the addition of a stroke attribute. There are numerous workflow disruptions caused by the "new Shape Layer" pretense.
    Here's how to get the functionality to which you are accustomed...
    The VM of a Shape Layer is only displayed in the Layers panel when the VM is disabled. To disable it, shift-click its "Shape Path" thumbnail in Properties panel. (You can record an Action of shift-clicking that thumbnail to create your own Disable Vector Mask command which can be run when the Properties panel is closed.) The revealed VM can now be dragged to another layer in the Layers panel.
    By the way, you can draw a path and directly create a Vector Mask for a regular pixel layer without making a Shape first. Draw the path with the Pen Tool or with a shape tool set to "Path" mode in its options bar, then Cmd/Ctrl-click the Add Mask button at bottom of Layers Panel when the pixel layer is targeted.

  • Adding layer and let a part of the layer blend in to the background

    Hello,
    this is my problem:
    Pic 1. I have an image I want to use as a background, however the image is not complete. I need a part of pic 2 to fullfill it.
    Pic 2. The colors around the object doesn't match the colors of Pic 1.
    Normally it would be best to cut the object out. However in this case it wouldn't look nice (the object is mixed out (in color) with the rest of the image). If I cut out something the object won't look "proper".
    My question:
    How can I blend pic 2 on pic 1, using the original object from pic 2 (as it is), and at the same time blend the colors around it, so that it matches that of pic 1 / or simply remove it somehow?
    Thanks

    Could you please post (lores of) the two images?
    Quite possibly a masked Adjustment Layer clipping masked to »pic 2« might suffice.

  • [AI CS4 Mac] How to Create a Layer Clipping Mask?

    Hi Folks,
    How does one go about creating a layer clipping mask using the SDK?
    What I want to do is to simulate clicking on the "Make/Release Clipping Mask" button (the left-most picture button) that is at the bottom of the Layers Panel.
    Thanks!
    -- Jim

    Clipping masks work, but they can be a little clunky (as you might tell from their weird way of being set up). You might find opacity masks more flexible. An opacity mask is basically a group attached to a layer, in which you store paths that represent holes in the mask. These holes have an opacity value for how much shows through. So anything in the mask group is a hole (there can be many) and anything in the layer (as normal) shows through those holes. Setting it up is simpler but it depends on the kind of clipping you're trying to do which is easier. We find it easier when doing knockouts for labels on lines, but clipping paths are also possible, just a little more annoying.

  • Help w/ Eye Diagrams and Mask Tests

    I could use some experienced help here
    So i have a scope capture of a representative signal that will be used in this VI.
    I have several problems which i could use some help with.
    1) Trying to create an EYE diagram out of this waveform.  Because it is repeating i have already have the algorithm to chop it up into seperate 'waveforms', how would i go about displaying something like this as an eye diagram with the LV graphs?  I have tried everything i can think of, i cant just use build waveform or hardwire anything because the # of Voltage arrays will differ every time in real usage.
    What i did is create a waveform chart, i build a waveform type w/ dt and the Y values and plug it in.  I was hoping to use the 'scope' setup as from the description in help seemed to do what i wanted, but it does not seem like it overlays onto the graph.
    Basically i need a way to create a multiplot graph from X,Y coordinates and dynamically increment the number of plots until its done. Hopefully that makes sense.
    2) Eventually i also need to do a multi part mask test on this 'infinite persistence' signal if you were.  This shouldnt be too hard as i will have the arrays of voltage at my disposal from above that i can loop through.  My question regarding Mask tests is this, for this particular mask test there are 4 actual masks.  An upper & lower and 2 'eyes' that it must clear, it seems LV's express mask testing only lets you do a top/bottom mask.
    What would be the best way to do mask tests like this?  Use the express VI and split it into 2 parts and 'and' them together?  Or would doing it more manually with some of the non express mask stuff prove to be easier?
    I got many more questions but i'll stick with that for now   Thanks in advance!

    Here they are... Note that in the SubVI I use an interpolate 1d that is available in 8.0.  I do that to stretch the points out some.

  • Adjustment Layer to Mask?

    Hi,
    Although the opposite way is already possible,
    I was wondering how I can apply an adjustment layer to
    a layer mask. This means that I will have an image, an it will
    be masked, but then I want to have a dynamic adjustment
    layer applied to that layer mask, so I can change the
    mask on the fly...
    Any help would be appreciated,
    thanks

    No, you cannot apply an adjustment layer to a mask (the whole concept doesn't work there...).
    You can use the Refine Edge and Masks Palette on the mask to make simple changes.

  • Layer clipping mask help

    having trouble with layer clipping masks - I guess I've never really used them before. I want to make a clipping mask from a layer but that layer has more than one path on it. It doesn't seem to be working. Does it need to be a single one? Can I use a compound or a group(i've tried both but they didn't work for me...) help?
    also - Is there a way to invert the mask?
    thanks!

    Hi Oompal
    Simple, let´s see if I´ve understood your problem
    Create any shape and position where you like. Now go to layers pallete and click create clipping layer button (bottom of the layer, the first left buttom). That´s it
    Now that shape will be used as clipping layer, and everithing you create inside this layers will be clipped.
    Am I right?
    Guidelines: Path intended to be a clipping shape must be the topmost of the layers, be selected on the artboard and its layer must be highlighted on the layers pallete to enable the action.

  • Set operations using Rotobrush and Masks question

    Hi everyone
    I have a relatively simple video clip of an object rotating.  Its shot straight on, no fancy moves or anything just rotating.  I've rotobrushed it and it looks good on a plain white background.  I'm animating a color shift such that as the object rotates its top 1/3rd part changes colors.  The area changing colors has crinkly edges but I've used rotobrush to isolate that as well, no problems there.  I duplicated the original clip, rotobrushed the duplicate to separate it from the background.  The original clip fades into pure white leaving the rotobrushed layer visible.  I duplicated the original again, rotobrushed the top 1/3rd in the same way.  I created a new layer with just a color adjustment effect and used the rotobrushed top 1/3rd as a track-mask for the animated color adjustment layer.
    What I want to do is run a color gradient that shifts colors same as the top part but bleeds into the lower part that does not change colors.
    So, is it possible to use a regular mask for the gradient and do a difference operation with the rotobrush of the object so the gradient only effects the area below the top 1/3rd which changes color ?  I know I can do it with regular masks, but I can't figure out how to do it with rotobrush masks.  I want to be able to do intersections and unions.
    any pointers would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
    -AK

    Wrong thinking. You need to get away from masks vs. Rotobrush. In the end, all you do is create matte channels and therein lies the answer - any channel can be mangled with effects, possibly requiring to be extracted and isolated first by pre-rendering or pre-comping. RB and masks are just means to an end/ tools, nothing more.

  • Why do scaled and masked captivate swfs respond to clicks outside the mask? Can it be stopped?

    We load Captivate 3 SWFs at runtime into our own course player, with movieclip.loadmovie. Our player is built with AS2 and published to Flash 8. We publish our Captivate movies to the same specs. Our latest challenge requires scaling and masking the Captivate SWF.
    A click outside the masked Captivate still triggers a click as far as Captivate is concerned, and it throws up a “that’s incorrect” message. Specifically, it only happens when you click in a spot that has masked Captivate “behind” it. In other words, if there would be Captivate there if the mask was turned off, Captivate will respond even when the mask is turned on.
    Is there a way to make Captivate ignore mouse clicks outside of the mask? I think it must be responding to Mouse.onMouseDown() since normally a masked object won’t respond to clicks outside the mask.
    I’ve put together a small test file to demonstrate exactly what’s happening, and I’ve posted it here: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/captivatemasktest.swf
    I’ve also uploaded the .fla file. It’s ony 50kb and it’s available here: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/MaskTest01.fla
    You’ll also need the Captivate .swf file if you want to test locally. Here’s the direct link. Right-click and save target as: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/DisplayProperties.swf
    My question is "how do I make Captivate ignore clicks outside the mask?"
    Many thanks,
    Todd S

    Even if anyone just has any knowledge of how Captivate 3 movies actually monitor the mouse, I'd be happy to hear it. In other words, can anyone confirm my hunch? If we knew the internal structure of the Captivate SWF would it be possible to clear and restore some function as the mouse moves inside or outside of the target area? Something like this:
    on mousemove {
         if mouse has crossed boundary to the outside {
              functionBuffer = container.whatever.whatever.function;
              container.whatever.whatever.function = null;
         else if mouse has cross boundary to the inside {
              container.whatever.whatever.function = functionBuffer;
    This would kill Captivate's mouse functions and then bring them back to life, as the mouse exits and re-enters the masked Captivate area. Two questions:
    1. If we knew the necessary whatever.whatever.function information, would this work?
    2. Does anybody know the necessary whatever.whatever.function information?
