List custom form with content type drop list

We're building retention polices for our documents we have 18 document type each has different retention period , when user enter document information we need to choose a document content type from dropdown list instead of choosing it from New Item
in ribbon menu, then complete other form fields and save, also ability to change the content type for document item, what is the best practice to complete this task.

I have a list with a content type. So basically i have the default content type and another custom one.
I would like to customize the forms and taught of using sharepoint designer.
Is this a good approach or is it better using infopath.
When i try using infopath i don't know how i can using content type to create forms.
I basically have 2 forms based on the content types how can i separate this when using custom forms and what would be the best practice?

According to your description, you want to create a form for each content type in a custom list with multiple content types. Is it right?
If we use Infopath to customize forms for a list with multiple content types, it only customizes the default content type, the forms for other content types don't have changes.
For your requirement, I suggest you use SharePoint Designer to create forms for content types.

New Forms with Content Types copies all form fields.

I'm using the "NEW" button to create a form based on a Content Type. I know how this worked in the past and I can attach to the right content type and everything.
My problem is that the form generated is wrong. It doesn't take the Content Type selected into account. Instead it just displays everything in the form.
Anyone else have this issue?

KE30 decimal not display in quantity column with output type object list

Hi everyone,
I already set number format "0.000" in change form screen but when I execute report with output type object list (ALV) that report don't display decimal in quantities column e.g. 0.470 displayed to 0 .
How can I set number format in output type object list on Transaction code KE30?

Steps to rename column name:
Open external content type in SharePoint designer
click on “Operations Design View” from ribbon
select corresponding external content type operations
click on edit operation from ribbon
click next button to get the Return parameter configuration page
select the parameter and change the display name from the properties

Dispform.aspx with content types

SharePoint 2013 farm.
I have two content types in a list. I need to change the dispform.aspx.
There are different fields for both content types, so copying the dispform.aspx to create and modify a new one is not a solution I think. I am not sure. i am new in this :)
Can someone give me a step by step, how to modify the displayform of a list so that I can customize the the form for both content types.

Hi Olafur,
There is a way in SharePoint Designer to specify which form the different content types in a list or library will use.
Open up the list, click on the content type name:
On the Content Type screen, under the forms section, there is a text field where you can enter the relative path to the new form that you created.

Hi,
I want to develop custom action with xml type input and/or output parameter.
Is there sample code for java side. How is the definition of input and/or output parameter and set/get methods?
does it need special .jar file to develop custom action like this?

Cemil - yes, you can use XML data types. Use the class
com.sap.lhcommon.xml.XMLDataType
for your parameter type. Here is a snippet from a custom action we use to log XML (instead of just returning the #text node like the default logger does):

XMLUtils is a helper class we wrote - it's just a bunch of standard Java XML boilerplate code. The important part you need to know is XMLDataType.getDocument() will return an org.w3c.dom.Document.

Try reposting that with tags (replace the {'s with ['s).
Long story short, I think the FAQ and examples would go a long way towards explaining this, but you basically can check the content type, or check if the content contains parts, and parse each part separately.

How to display the image while set custom header "x-content-type-options" as "nosniff" in web.config

I am using Microsoft ASP.NET TreeView control where I have bound embedded images. Also I have set custom header “x-content-type-options” as
“nosniff” in web.config file.
On hosting the sample containing the above mentioned things in SERVER machine, the images are not visible but its working properly while running sample in local (development) machine.

Batch uploading to a document library with content types

Hi,
I have a document library with two content types. Now I need to upload documents to this document library. However, if I have large number of files, then uploading through web UI is a pain as metadata will not be attached. How should I automate it from
my computer using powershell without relying on Administrator to run the powershell script. Or is there any other way to do it without using powershell? or can powershell be run remotely from an end user computer?
Note I am using SharePoint 2010.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to butch upload files to document library with content types.
There are two good tools in CodePlex which can batch upload files with content types, you can have a look at them.

Reset Select List in Form With Report

Hi,
i have Created Form with Report Page. I have three select List on this page.
1-Market Name Select List with Redirect
2-Customer Name Select List with Redirect
3-Contect Person
when i select market Name then Respective Customer name is select In to select List Customer Name.
When i select Customer Name Then Contact Person is Select in Select List Contect Person.
Problem is when i select Customer Name from Select List then Contact Person comes into Contact persion Select List But the value in select List Customer Name and Market Name is not dispaly , Display Only -Select Market - and -Select Customer Name- .
I want when i select Customer NAme From Select List then value from MArket and customer Select List should not be reset.
How can i do this.

Try 'select list with submit', not "select list with redirect". Redirect usually doesn't save the values in session state so they are lost when the page repaints.

Update content type in list not working

My list content type is not getting updated.
I have a content type defined in a feature. I have created a new column and updated the feature definition and reactivated the feature. I have also written powershell to check and update the content type with the new column. The content type
gets updated but not at the list level. The powershell looks like this:

I thought the Update method was supposed to push the changes down, but it doesn't seem to be working. This code does work in a different environment so I'm not what is going on.

You will need to updated the list also, after updating the content type

Associating a Custome ResultSet with a Choose From List

When you create CFL, just set your UDO type with oCFLCreationParams.ObjectType = "My_UDO", the collumn to be displayed in CFL has been determined by Find Service in your UDO definition.
As per custom query, actually you can set the condition to do so. Direct customed SQL is not supported in CFL. You may refer to the SDK sample for further info after you install SDK component:

List field vs. Content Type Field - Powershell

Hello,
We have a bunch of document libraries where we have a List Column that contains information. We have recently added a content type to the libraries and would like to copy the information from the List Column to a field in the content type.
How do I use powershell to refer to these fields?
If I have the Document Library (List) as a variable $list then I assume that I refer to the field as $list.$column. But how do I do the same for the document? How do I iterate through each document in the library to accomplish the same thing
with a for loop?
Something like:
$list = $web.GetList("My List Name")
foreach ($document in $list)
$document.Fields["Document Field"] = $list.Fields["List Field"]
$document.update()
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
