List/Menu a required field

Is there a way to make a list/menu field in a form required
by the user to select an item from its list? I know how to do it
for a text field but not for a list menu.
Thanks,
Dave

Download the Check Form extension from www.yaromat.com as it
has an option
to force the person to select from a drop down and exclude
the first item.

  • How to change a list/menu to a text field when 'Other' is chosen?

    Hi there. I've been trying to solve this for a week now and I have depleted all my resources, that is why I'm here. I even went to jquery but nothing works and I think I was over-complicating this way too much.
    In short: I have a contact form, which have a list/menu with validation, and one of the options of that list/menu is "other". What I want is that when the user select "other" automatically change to a text field in order to let the user put his custom color. This is what I have:
    <form method="post" action="process.php">
    <span id="spryselect1">
    <label for="colors"></label>
    <select name="colors" id="colors">
    <option selected="option1">Blue.</option>
    <option value="option2">White</option>
    <option value="option3">Red</option>
    <option value="other">other</option>
    </select>
    <span class="selectRequiredMsg">Please select a colour.</span></span>
    <input type="submit" value="Send">
    </form>
    I know now that the approach is to show/hide a separate textbox besides the other... well. I don't know how to implement that, I think I really need your help guys. I'm completely frustrated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • List/Menu Required?

    How do you make a menu (or list) field (in a form) required?
    The
    validator seems to treat it as something is always selected.
    For
    example, if you say,
    what is your favorite color:
    [red]
    [blue]
    [green]
    [yellow]
    It seems to always pick the first item...
    I even added a [select color] to the top with no value, but
    it still
    uses that and it goes through w/o the user selecting an
    option.
    Get it?
    Thanks!
    Dan

    Will do.
    As for your suggestion, I did run into a solution Mick
    offered about a
    year go for about the same question.
    <form onsubmit "return
    this.menuName.selectedIndex>0">
    I added the onsubmit to my form (and changed the menu name to
    my menu
    name), but now the form won't even submit.

    Any ideas why it's doing that?

  • "You must specify a value for this required field" in SharePoint list

    HI All,
    I have a couple of taxonomy fields in my content type. When I try to add a new item with my content type and save, I'm getting an error message "You must specify a value for this required field" against each taxonomy field. I'm not sure what am
    I missing. I deleted the content type and added that again to my list but still no luck. Can someone please help me out? Thanks.
    Regards,
    SC Vinod

    hi
    it depends how you updated existing field. We faced with the problem that update of taxonomy site column was not propagated to the lists. In Sharepoint when content type is bound to the list, new hidden content type is created for that list - you may check
    it if will enumerate
    SPList.ContentTypes property. And when you try to update site column changes may not be propagated to these list content types. In order to update it you need to get reference on a field from list content type and update if explicitly.

  • Required field in custom content type not required in custom list instance

    I have an issue with a custom SharePoint 2013 solution. Among other components, it consists of:
    a feature with several custom fields with different types, some of which are taxonomy fields,
    a feature with three custom content types using different sets of the custom fields with partially different configuration, e.g. whether they are required or not,
    a feature with a custom document library template and instance using two of the custom content types and a default picture library that is programmatically customized when the feature is activated, e.g. it is assigned the third custom content type.
    When deploying the solution and activating the feature, everything is set up correctly except a single taxonomy field for one of the doc lib's content types. It is defined to be required in both content types but indeed it does not show up as required for
    the default content type whereas everything works fine for the other. And it does not matter which of the two custom content types is defined first (= default) in the list template's schema.xml, the issue always occurs for the same taxonomy field in the doc
    lib's default content type. When I use the built-in Document content type as default, the field is required for both custom content types. However, using the Document content type is not an option.
    If you think this behavior is not strange enough: When the list content type's field is set required through the SharePoint UI, it becomes optional again when the list column is updated, e.g. its display name is changed.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your question.
    We are currently looking into this issue and will give you an update as soon as possible.
    Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • HELP - List Menu 2 fields?

    I have a recordset that returns a list of Manager names and
    corresponding Manager ID numbers, which are two separate fields in
    my database. I would like to create a dynamic list menu and display
    both fields. This list menu would be used to drive another search
    based on the what was selected from the menu. I need to be able to
    only select the manager ID number for the search since it is unique
    whereas the manager name could have duplicates. Is this possible???
    Your help is appreciated in advance

    Do you really need them shown? - i.e. a refresh?
    or are you just looking to update 3 fields in the database?
    If you are looking to update the database, you can use the
    $_POST variable to insert into as many fields in the record as you
    want. But his would be done in the MySQL statement, not the
    form.

  • Required field, UPC, is missing. Please add UPC to the listing and retry the operation.

    What to do about this: "Required field, UPC, is missing. Please add UPC to the listing and retry the operation." ? We sell cassette tapes and sometimes they are are of a vintage that predates upc codes.

     forester_studios wrote:OK thanks for the input; but selecting 1 item leaves the other 4 or 5 unsearchable I would think.  Seems like a typical ebay answer (which is not much better than no answer as far as problem solving goes).   I have to wonder if ebay thought this new requirement through.  Often upc codes on Canadian items are not in ebays system at all.  So are these items which have upc codes un-listable  since ebay does not acknowledge they exsist? In that case, here is what I intend to do.... List the most important item's UPC in the actual required UPC field and then create as many other 'custom' item specific UPC fields as are allowed. You need to be on the long form selling form to do it. Call them Other UPC and Even More UPC or something. And then, just to be sure, I'll list all the UPCs in the item description.  Buyers probably won't search for UPC (unless they're standing in a retail store with their smartphone in hand and looking for cheaper pricing online) but search engines do. When I look for the products that I sell on google, I get amazon results 19 times before I see one from eBay. I'm certain that's the UPC talking there. We do need Product Identifiers on eBay. Implementing them is the difficulty. Ebay is aware that the UPC for Canadian packages may be different than the exact same in an American one. I've raised it and was told they were looking into it. Use the MPN identifiers too. Pretty much nothing I list can be found in the product catalogue on ebay.ca (is there one?) so I don't know what to expect for resolution there if and when the Catalogue version of the Product Identifiers are shown to be clearly wrong but I know it happens, here and elsewhere. The last order that I placed with Amazon had a new UPC pasted over an old, similar product. It was not what I ordered. Close but no cigar. Hopefully, when all of this becomes 'official' in two weeks, there will be a timely manner to address item misinformation within the Product Catalogue. In the meantime, I would state all the item properties in the Item Description area to cover my butt.

  • How to validate required fields before executing menu item ("Save As") using cutom Javascript?

    Hi,
    Sorry, I am new to PDF Development. I tried creating PDF using Acrobat XI Pro. During creation, I have encountered issues in running custom JavaScript. The requirement is to validate all the required fields before saving the PDF. I tried using the following scripts to validate the said required fields. But, it's not working.
    Option 1: If the field is null, a message box will appear.
    if(this.getfield("textbox") = null){
    app.alert("required");
    else {app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");}
    Option 2: If the field is required, a message box will appear.
    var f = this.getField("textbox");
    f.required = true;
    if(f = true)
    app.alert('required');
    else
    app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
    The scripts mentioned above are not working. I wanted to validate the required fields before saving the PDF.
    In addition, I tried validating each field using the following script:
    f = getField(event.target.name)
    if (f.value.length == 0)
        f.setFocus()
        //Optional Message - Comment out the next line to remove
        app.alert("This field is required. Please enter a value.")
    When I open the PDF, the script is working. However, when the message box pops out, the "OK" button is not working as expected. The message box is not closing. I tried opening the form in a site in different Java versions (like 7-11 and 7-67). It's working in version 7-67. I tried upgrading the Java version from 7-11 to 7-67. Still, it doesn't work.
    I would appreciate your feedback on this matter.

    If you set the fields as required, then when the user hits the print button you could run this script:
    var txt = form1.execValidate();
    if (txt == true){
    print command
    This code assumes that the root node of your form is form1. Also ensure you put a message into the Empty Message parameter for each field that you want to mark s required.

  • Please help! How can I validate Radio Buttons and List Menu with PHP.

    Hello everyone, I have been learning PHP step by step and
    making little projects.
    The point is I find it easy to learn by doing "practical
    projects."
    I have been reading the David Powers's Book on PHP Solutions
    and it's really great, however there is nothing mentioned regarding
    Validating Radio buttons. I know the book cannot cover every aspect
    of PHP and maybe someone in here can help.
    I have been learning how to process HTML forms with PHP.
    The problem is every book or tutorial I have read or
    encountered fall short on validation.
    I'm wondering how I can learn to validate Radio Buttons and
    Select List Menu.
    I have managed to create validation for all other fields but
    have no clue as to how I can get validation for Radio Buttons and
    List Menu.
    I would also like an error message echoed when the user does
    not click a button or make a selection and try to submit the form.
    I would appreciate any help.

    It's not that default value is "None." In fact it's not. It
    will only be
    "none" when the form is submitted.
    Also if your submit button is names 'send' then
    $_POST['send'] will only be
    set if the form was submitted.
    Make sure you didn't hit the refresh button on your browser
    which usually
    reposts the information. Also make sure you did not reach the
    form from
    another form with the same button names.
    Otherwise paste the snippet.
    Also you can check what fields are set in the post array by
    adding this to
    the top of (or anywhere on) your page:
    print_r($_POST);

  • Input in required fields

    Hi,
    I have made input required in some of the input fields in a screen. But I want the user to be able to go back in the program whitout putting values in the required fields by pressing back, cancel etc.
    But no matter what button is pressed the program diplays a message "Make an entry in all required fields". The only way to get out of the screen is to make entries in the required fields or close the session. Does anyone know how to get around this?
    All answers will be appreciated and rewarded.
    Thanks

    Hi
    You have to active a code for EXIT-COMMAND in yor bar.
    PROCESS PAI.
      MODULE EXIT AT EXIT-COMMAND.
    MODULE EXIT.
    SET SCREEN 0. LEAVE SCREEN.
    ENDMODULE.
    From SAP help:
    The module is only processed if the user enters a command beginning with "/E" in the command field, or chooses a function type E (assigned in the function list in the Menu Painter).
    This addition is also valid for standalone MODULE statements without field assignment.
    AT EXIT-COMMAND is only allowed in the PROCESS AFTER INPUT event. A module with this addition is processed before the automatic input checks and before all other PAI modules.

  • Check for required fields before locking subforms and submitting

    Hello,
    I have a 5-page form with many questions, to be completed by the original requestor and multiple approvers.  What I'm trying to do is have the original requestor's Submit button on p. 3 lock the input on the first three pages, but first check if all those fields have some content.  I currently have all the fields on pp. 1-3 set to "Required" in the object properties, but my script still locks them when there's is one empty one.  Here's what I have:
    //Lock portions of form
    Page1.access = "readOnly"
    Page2.access = "readOnly"
    Page3.access = "readOnly"
    //Save document, allow user to change name
    app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
    //Submit via e-mail
    Submit_REAL.event__click.submit.target = "mailto:[email protected]" +
    "?subject=Subject text" +
    "&body=Message";
    Submit_REAL.execEvent("click");
    The automatic check for required fields happens after the pages get locked.  I would like the check to stop the process before it locks the pages.  Is there any way to check all at once that all "Required" fields on those pages have some content before allowing the script to proceed?  I know how to script it to manually check the 50 or so questions on those pages, but I would like to avoid that.  Thanks for any help.

    There are a few problems that I can see from the start. First, your code is going to pick up EVERY node that exists on these pages. Some of those nodes will not have a rawValue, and some will not have an actual name. As an example, you can take your code and create a text field to dump all of the names of the nodes that you get when you pull in all of the nodes this way. Here's an example:
    The result:
    Now, the question is, do you have a consistent naming convention for your fields that might be empty? That could be text fields, radio button lists, etc. For instance, I always prefix the names of objects in order to more easily keep track of what they are in scripts. Since I'm doing that, I can check the name of the field for tf, nf, rbl, cb, or whatever I have included to make sure that I'm checking an actual field before I check for things like rawValue.
    var nodeName = oNodes.item(nNodeCount).name;
    if (nodeName.indexOf("tf")>-1 || nodeName.indexOf("rbl") > -1 || /*check other field types*/) {
      //insert your code to check for empty answers here
    As for your line 7 issue. The syntax problem is that you've put extra parentheses in your if statement. Take out the parentheses that are just before and after the or "||".
    *This is my fourth attempt to reply. Something was going on with Adobe/Jive earlier, I suppose.

  • Switch List Menu in G/L & Vendor Line Item Display

    Hi Dear All Experts,
    I've 2 problems.
    The first one is in the Vendor line item display program.
    copied RFITEMAP and create custom program and then I create new structure (like FAGLPOSX) to show extra fields. (eg. Vendor, User)
    New extra fields are shown when i execute but if I click switch menu from the setting menu, it is shown by the old fields not including new fields.
    The second one is in the GL Line Item display program.
    Even the Switch List menu is enable in the Vendor Line Item display custom program without changing anything for gui status, the switch list menu in my new custom program is disable.(copied from fagl_account_items_gl).
    Thks all in advance..
    TRA

    the second question is now solved.
    Include ZFAGL_ACCOUNT_ITEMS_DEF (C_REPID_GL     LIKE SY-REPID  VALUE  'FAGL_ACCOUNT_ITEMS_GL') I put custom program name in this field.
    When I changed to std program name, the switch list menu is enable..
    Only the first question is left..
    Please let me know is there any way to solve...
    Best Regards

  • How to make text box required field if checkbox is checked??

    I have a web form that I need to look something like this:
    (Checkbox) Check here if it is for an individual  ID: (textbox) Required field if checkbox is checked and a numeric value
    (Checkbox) Check here if it is for an organization ID: (textbox) Required field if checkbox is checked and a numeric value
    (Checkbox) Check here if is neither (textbox is hidden and not required if "neither" is checked)
    Currently the form looks like this: http://ncsu.edu/advancement-services/resources/researchrequest.html.  The above information is going to go where it says prospect name and id number on the form.  I would like to have the three checkboxes in a menu instead if that is possible.
    How do I make the form do this?  I created the form in the above link but I don't can't figure this one out.
    Thanks so much in advance!!

    inputed into my field, what must I do to correct this? Everything
    works perfectly expect the multi selected list/menu. I want to
    place all that is selected in the list/menu in that one database
    field called occasion.

    notice, you dont mean
    >a script stoppiong error?
    Nope. An E_NOTICE error won't terminate the script, but
    shouldn't happen
    nevertheless. While developing, the error_reporting directive
    should be
    set to E_ALL|E_STRICT and _all_ reported problems should be
    solved. It's
    not only better coding style, but also helps to prevent real
    errors. In
    this particular case it was just a guess, because it was only
    a part of
    the code. But using an uninitialized variable with a '.='
    operator for
    example would lead to a notice, which should be fixed.

    Yes, something like that.
    >Thanks for the input, i like escaping the variables from
    a string as they
    >stand out more in code view, is the single quote method
    faster? And which one
    >will be or is already deprecated?
    All are correct and won't be deprecated. IMHO it's more or
    less just
    personal preference. It also depends on the used editor and
    its syntax
    highlighting capabilities. For example I use Eclipse/PDT for
    all my PHP
    scripts, which can also highlight variables inside a string.
    But if the
    above is your preferred way, there's nothing really wrong
    with it.
    Just some additional thoughts:
    Personally I prefer as less escaping and concatenating as
    possible,
    because such a mixture of single quotes, double quotes, dots
    and
    sometimes even escaped quote signs (for example when printing
    HTML)
    _really_ confuses me. I like to keep my code clean and
    readable.
    Something like this:
    print "<img src=\"".$someVar."\" ...>\n";
    not only hurts my eye, it is also quite error-prone. It's
    easy to miss a
    quote or a backslash and get a parse error back, especially
    in editors
    with limited syntax highlighting (or none at all). So I would
    prefer
    print "<img src='$someVar' ...>\n";
    or even
    printf("<img src='%s' ...>\n", $someVar);
    When it comes to performance issues, of course there's a
    difference
    between the various methods. But for me they don't really
    matter. In
    practice you usually won't notice any difference between an
    echo, a
    print or a printf() call for example, as long as you don't
    call them
    a million times in a loop.
    So I always just use the method that leads to the most
    readable code.
    In many cases, especially when a lot of variables or
    expressions are
    involved, (s)printf() wins. Not for performance, but for
    readability.
    But as said - personal preference. YMMV.

  • Using ms project 2007 and vba macro to list all the custom fields used in the project?

    Hi,Using ms project 2007 vba macro, I would like to be able to list all the custom fields used in the project and their corresponding field names. e.g. let us say I create a calculated duration field and name it "expected duration" and the name
    of the field I select is Duration1.
    I am trying to write a macro that will list all the used custom fields such as the result would look like:
    Duration1 ---> "expected duration"
    Text1       ---> "anything"
    Flag1        ---> "....."
    Number1  ---> "..............."
    Can anyone provide me with the solution?
    Regards,
    Chuck

    John,
    I found this module, which provides the the list of custom fields used in the project but does not provide the name given to the field. Here below is the module and hope you could help me achieve this by modifying the macro to list the renamed field.
    ' MSP Checks all Custom Task Fields
    Sub checkfields2()
    'This macro will check and report out which custom task fields are used
    'It requires Project 2002 and above as it relies on the GetField
    'and FieldNameToFieldConstant methods which were not introduced until
    '2002.
    'It does not include resource fields, however it is a simple matter to
    'do it by replacing the pjTask constant with pjResource.

    Dim mycheck As Boolean
    Dim myType, usedfields As String
    Dim t As Task
    Dim ts As Tasks
    Dim i, it As Integer
    Set ts = ActiveProject.Tasks
    usedfields = "Custom Fields used in this file" & vbCrLf
    myType = "Text"
    usedfields = usedfields & vbCrLf & "--" & UCase(myType) & "--" & vbCrLf

    mycheck = False

    it = it + 1
    If Not ts(it) Is Nothing Then
    If ts(it).GetField(FieldNameToFieldConstant(myType & i, pjtask)) <> "" Then
    usedfields = usedfields & myType & CStr(i) & vbCr

    End If
    Wend
    Next i
    myType = "Finish"

    mycheck = True
    End If
    End If
    Wend
    Next i
    MsgBox usedfields
    End Sub
    This is what the module gives me. But I would like to have beside Text 1 the name that is shown as below. e.g Text1 is "Test".
    Would you mind helping me achieve this?
    Thanks in advance.
