List of Applications which must be kept in Applications folder?

Which applications must be kept inside the Applications folder? Is there a list extant or would anyone like to contribute one here? I understand with the huge number of applications available a fully comprehensive one probably isn't feasible. I have about 100GB of various applications and may need to move as many as possible to an external drive on upgrading to Lion (I will have to replace my current Intel Core Duo iMac and the model I am looking at has a smaller internal drive).
I already understand how to move home folders using System Preferences (right-click on the Account and go from there, heeding warnings).

Thanks for taking the time to reply. You do make a valid point but I feel it does not apply in my case:
1) I keep applications not just to use them but to study how they work and similarities and differences between them, having an ambition to design and program my own. I like to keep them at hand because I find the process of finding and downloading applications incredibly tedious,
2) It is quite unlikely I will remember what I have deleted, meaning when I need to re-download I may waste time looking for other alternatives which may be inferior or expensive, or find that a product has been discontinued, or be stuck with a problem for a long time, forgetting I had already deleted a handy app which could provide the solution, and
3) I believe some redundancy is worth having in case of reliability issues (for example, my DVD player and TV are very old and/or poor quality and I may not find the cash to replace them in the short term if either or both failed).

  • No Apps listed in Applications Folder

I have noticed lately that when I search for applications in Finder from the sidebar (username/Applications), I don't see any applications listed in column view (or in any view for that matter). However, if I simply select 'Applications' from the sidebar, all of my installed applications appear in Finder. Do you have any idea what might have happened here?

There are two Application folders, one at root level and one in your Home folder. Normally applications are placed in the one at root level so that they are available to all users of the mac. If for some reason you are one of several users and you want to keep an pplication for your own use only you would put it in the Applications folder in your Home Folder. Normally you wouldn't to this, so it's quite normal for the folder to be empty.

  • Acrobat XI Pro not listed under applications after installation

    Mac OS: 10.9.1
    Processor: Intel Core i7 2.3GHz
After installed Acrobat XI Pro, it is displayed in the Creative Cloud Desktop as "Up to date"
But not listed under "Applications" folder.
Could not find Acrobat XI Pro anywhere in the computer.
When you choose "Open with" option for pdf file, not displays Acrobat XI Pro.
Instead it displays the older version Acrobat Pro 9.
Someone please help to fix this.

So, I completed all the steps with no luck. Uninstalled CC and all its components, ran the cleaner, etc. When I reinstalled a fresh version of the Creative Cloud Desktop App, it showed as if Acrobat XI Pro is already installed - see attached screen shot. Any other suggestions?

I have to force quit Bridge to get out of it. I tried to uninstall Bridge and re-install it but it did the same thing. Any ideas where to go next?
The fact that I uninstalled Bridge and reloaded it has me concerned as to what to do next.?

You need to force quit all other (real or fake) instances of the Application Manager.  Instructions differ between Mac or Win.
A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,

exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CC", but something like CC2014.v.2.2) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,

what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,

For the application EJB list, we are looking through

  • SCCM Application Catalog Query / Report - List of Applications a User Can Install

    Hello,
In SCCM, if a user launches the application catalog, they are presented with a list of application that they have access to install. We don't use the approval request feature.   I was wondering if anyone knows of a report or SQL query that would
return the same results as if I launching the application catalog as that user.   I just want the name of the application.
E.g.  List all applications ADDOMAIN\JOHNDOE has access to install.
    ADOBE Reader
    Visio 2010
    Access 2010 etc.
    Thanks.

  • How do I update the list of applications in the help panel?

When I hit F1, the help module comes up. It has a very outdated list of Adobe applications. For example, I've owned Lightroom 3, 4, and now 5. Only 3 shows up in the list of applications for which I can search. How do I add/delete applications for which I want to search or download help information?

    Hi,
When you hit F1 in Lightroom 3, a special client opens up, and it displays help for supported Adobe software.
However, Lightroom 4 and Lightroom 5 do not use this mechanism or client. Please use the links (below) to find offline help:
PDF manual for Lightroom 4: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/lightroom_4_help.pdf
PDF manual for Lightroom 5: http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/lightroom_reference.pdf
Online docs for Lightroom 5: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/topics.html
Help Hub page for Lightroom 5: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom.html
You can navigate to links 1, 2, and 3, from the Help Hub page (link 4), too.

  • How do I resolve the error "Another installer is currently running, which must be closed before updating" when updating CC on MacOS 10.9.4?

Creative Cloud keeps alerting me to an available update but whenever I try to install it it tells me there is another installer running which must be shut down first.
I've now shut down and restarted the Mac completely and nothing else is running but it still gives me the same error (Error code: 81). See screen shot below.
I'm running Mavericks (OSX 10.9.4). How do I resolve this?

    Please try the mentioned steps:
    1. Navigate to Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installer and look for CC desktop, if present run the uninstaller to uninstall it.
    2. Navigate to Applications/Utilities and look for Adobe Application Manager folder and Creative cloud folder. If present move to trash and empty it.
    3. Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE and rename to OOBE.old
    4. Download CC desktop from: https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud and try to install again.

There is no download as such. When you purchase QT 7 Pro, you are just purchasing a registration key that "unlocks" the QT 7 "Pro" editing features already built into the QT 7 Player but not activated without the key. Since you are listed as using the Lion OS, you need to check your "Applications > Utilities" folder to see if QT 7 is already installed there.
If it is, then you will need to open the app, open the "Registration..." window under the "QuickTime Player 7" Menu and enter the "Registered To:" and "Registration code:" entries to activate the "Pro" features. Be sure to follow the instructions found on the web page I will post below.
If it is not already installed in the "Applications > Utilities" folder, then you will have to first download and install the special QT 7 Player v7.6.6 software found on the download page which is linked to the web page containing both installation and registration instructions which is included below.

How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon. And how / why did it disappear?

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.

  • How to find the list of applications registered with OID?

Could some one please help me?
how to find the list of applications registered with OID?

Is there any table from which we would be able to see?

  • Is there a list of applications that support 'versions' in Lion?

Has anyone found or compiled a list of applications that support versions in Lion? It'd be helpful to know before purchasing new software and having to wait for replies from each software developer. I've seen the roaring apps list, but it doesn't get detailed enough.

I'm a developer for an app sold on the Mac App store, so I can assure you that supporting Versions is not that big of a deal. The biggest problem for me was making my app play nice inside the Browse Versions interface.
The real issue is testing the app under Lion AND back on Snow Leopard to make sure you dont break something on Snow Leopard. There is also an app upgrade review and approval cycle done by Apple for products sold on the App Store. My gut feel is that the review staff is being flooded right now with application updates for Lion by virtually all of the products on the App store.
I do remember that Snow Leopard broke things too when it went live. (But then Apple has done at least 8 updates to Snow Leopard after it was released.)
By the way, the old way of saving works just fine for apps that dont yet support Versions.
Versions does take a bit to get used to. It is a paradigm shift from the way apps are saved over the last several
    decades.
Apps that require custome hardware and custom device drivers will most likely be the last to convert to Lion. Years ago I was a ProTools user and they took over 6 months after Tiger was released to release a compatible upgrade (and they charged a lot of money for it too).
The vast majority of apps dont fall into that category. They just have to do a ton of testing, which takes time.

  • IDVD not listed in applications or on dock

I would like to launch iDVD but have no way to do so since it's not listed on my dock or in Applications. When I connect my camcorder up I get the options to launch iDVD which it comes up fine and seems to work with no issues, however I can't launch it separately. Can someone tell me how to get this listed in my applications or on my dock? This is a relatively new MacBook Pro and I am a newbie to the Mac OS.

While you're holding the control key, also look in the contextual menu for the item "Show in Finder", which will open up the window that contains the application for you. I suspect that you are looking for iDVD in your personal (User Folder's) version of the Application Folder and it resides in the main Application Folder (or possibly vice-versa)

  • List view in applications folder missing arrows

I have a 27" i7 iMac and I recently updated to 10.7.1. I have a clean install of Lion. After updating, a strange thing happened in my Applications folder. When in list view, the arrows that are usually next to the folders, allowing you to expand and collapse them, are gone. It is only one the top level of that folder. Everywhere else works fine. Also, I can't click on the headings to resort. Is anyone else experiencing this or have an idea on how to fix it?

Found this answer over in another question. Solved my issue.

    Check the following:
    1. Go to Application folder (or any other folder with similar behavior)
    2. Chose "View" --> "Arrange by" --> "None"
