List of iTunes-compatible external CD burners?

I bought an Iomega external USB CD burner for my iBook G3 running 10.3.9 - iTunes didn't recognize it and I was told I couldn't burn with iTunes. Returned it. Does anyone know a list of iTunes-compatible external CD burners? Can't quite find it on the Apple site. Thanks!
iBook G3 640mb RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I would suggest finding a FireWire drive enclosure, since your Mac doesn't have USB 2.0.
You can use pretty much any internal CD burner, and install it in the FireWire enclosure. I would recommend something like a Lite-On 52x CD-RW drive. You can find those new for less than $20, and they're among the best CD readers/writers you can find.
If the drive is still not recognized by iTunes, you could help things out by either upgrading to Panther or installing Patchburn.

Itunes 8.0 - My ratings and play list are gone! External Drive
It has about one year I have been rating my songs and creating my play lists. I keep all my musics on a external drive. Always when I plug the drive I can play the musics list on the library with out a problem.
Now on this new update (8.0), when I click on the music, simply the Itunes don't find the music. And when I add to the library a music that was already there, it comes with NO RATING!
    Results:
    1) lost my ratings
    2) lost my play lists...I will have to build all again.
    Can some one Help Me?
    Thanks

Hi, usually iTunes stores data in 2 different folders:
one it's used to store your music files, the other stores your settings (playlists, ratings...). The first one can be stored wherever you want, the other, which contains the xml file with all your settings, is usually stored in My Documents / Music / iTunes Music. If you don't back up it or you replace it (for example doing a clean install of iTunes), you could lost all your informations. I suggest you to recover your PC from a backup (if available) or use a program to recover deleted files. Let me know if you need more help, goodbye

  • External DVD Burners & iDVD Compatibility

I am looking to purchase external DVD burners for use at my school - that are compatible with iDVD.
I am running iLife 5 on many different pre-intel Tiger Macs (mostly eMacs)
I have looked for a definitive listing of burners and have been receiving conflicting pieces of information.
I understand that I students can save iDVD projects as Disk Images then burn after the fact... but it would be nice to know which External Burners are compatible with iDVD without having to go the Disk Image route.
Any assistance that you can provide me would be tremendously appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

    Hello Dave,
iDVD 5 does not natively support external burners. What you have discovered concerning the creation of disk images, though, is not simply a workaround, but a widely recommended procedure, as it greatly reduces the risk of burn errors.

  • Compatible External DVD-Rewriter Drives

Im been interested in getting an external DVD-Reweriter drive for a while now and were wondering if anyone could list me some compatible ones and where i could get them from in the UK. Iv seen a few around but wasnt sure if they would be compatible, desperately need one for data back-up considering i only have a combo drive on my MacBook!
    Cheers in advance, Scott

This isn't an exhaustive list, but I have a Sony DRU-120A in a generic external Firewire enclosure made by ADS. There are newer faster burners out there, but this drive worked fine with my Macbook running OSX 10.4.10. I downloaded the Ubuntu Linux 7.10 live DVD ISO and used OSX's Disk Utility to burn the ISO to a DVD-R disc.
OSX did not support non-Apple drives for burning until 10.4. For the older OSX releases, a program like Roxio's Toast is needed to support non-Apple drives.
I like the idea of using an external burner. Discussion threads have posts with users having problems with superdrives not burning correctly after only a few months of operation.

  • Moving iTunes from external drive on PC to external drive on Mac

Hi can anyone help getting totally confused with all the different help topics!
My iTunes currently runs of an external hard drive (I://) via Windows 7.
I've changed to an iMac and want to move my iTunes to here using a new PC & Mac compatible external HD (J:// via the PC/Samsung via the Mac).
I've followed the instructions on here but iTunes doesn't seem to be picking up the library or playlists, and not sure where I've gone wrong.
Can anyone help at all please?

Those instructions tell you how to move media (as they say). A library is more than just media.  For people using regular iTunes settings it is everything in the iTunes folder which includes the critical iTunes Library.itl file.  This file generates the structure you see in the iTunes application.  You need - Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
Note, I am leery about your "PC & Mac" compatible drive, whatever that is.  While it is possible to use a FAT formatted drive with a Mac you have to realize that it has file size limitations and cannot be  repaired with any Mac based tools.

  • How do I copy iTunes from external hard drive to iMac?

How do I copy iTunes from external
    Hard drive to iMac?

if your main library is on your external, then when not connected, you wont have access to it.
so first decide, where do you want to keep the files.
E.g. In my case, I keep my files on "C:\iTunes Music".
I have a backup on external "Z:\iTunes Backup". If I format my laptop, this is how I restore everything.
    Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced.
The iTunes music folder in selects as "C:\iTunes Music"
I have checked Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized, and also Copy Files to iTunes Music folder when adding to ibrary". Click OK to save and close preferences.
My iTunes list is now empty. I go to file, and select "Add Folder to Library". From that window, I select "Z:\iTunes Backup". iTunes then copies everything from the backup to "C:\iTunes Music". For me, backup is backup, I dont need it to play music.
Now decide this. If you do not want to keep music on C:, but want to only connect the external to update music on your ipod, do this:
In preferences, set iTunes Music folder as "Z:\iTunes Backup", and uncheck Copy files to iTunes Music folder, since they are already there. Then in files, select Add folder to library again to build and update the list.

  • Working with video files on compatible external drive with imovie09

I have run out of room on my MacBook Pro hard drive, so I have moved all of my video files onto a compatible external hard drive. How do I work with these file in imovie09, do I need to import the files back onto the computer or can I work with them from the external hard drive, if so how. Also, is it possible to after completing editing to save just the project on the computer rather than the hard drive or will that cause a "source video" issue.
Ultimately, I would like to have all of the source video saved on the external hard drive and the projects saved on the computer
I had no problems working and saving the files when just using the computer, the external hard drive has complicated things for me. Thanks.

How did you move all of your video files? The best way in iMovie '09 is to do it in the Event Library. Make sure you're viewing hard drives (click the disk icon at the upper-right corner of the list of events). Then drag the events you want from your internal hard disk to the external one. That way iMovie keeps track of where the source files are located.
You can do the same with project files in the Project Library, too.
If you've already moved the files in the Finder, to do it cleanly, I'd recommend moving them back to the iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders in your Movies folder. Then launch iMovie and move them as explained above.
Or, make sure the iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders are at the top level of your external hard drive. When you launch iMovie, it looks in those places for footage and projects, and will make them available.

Just to go over changing to manual again, you connect your iPod to the computer. When it appears in the source list it appears under the heading of Devices. When you click on it's icon the preference tabs are displayed in the main pane to the right. In the iPod Summary tab is the "Manually manage music and videos" check box. You check the box and click Apply:

Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Another problem with moving iTunes to external HD

I copied the entire \Music folder, not just \Music\iTunes to an external drive.
I then opened iTunes and using Preferences/Advanced, selected the external drive's iTunes folder as the desired library folder.
iTunes does NOT recognize it.  Its preferences list the new folder, but nothing there is listed in iTunes itself. iTunes is in its original "empty" state.
I DO have a copy of the previous iTunes Library.itl file... I tried just copying that to the local HD where the new empty one was (after saving the new empty one, of course), which at least showed the items in the library, but of course they don't play, or display properly, since that copy thinks they're on the local HD.
    Solutions?

Hold down option as you launch iTunes, then browse to the folder you moved to the external drive and open the file ../Music/iTunes/iTunes Library(.itl)

  • Apps listed in iTunes don't install on iPod touch 4G

I have several apps I've downloaded from the iTunes Store, but even after syncing the iPod touch, those apps aren't installed. They still show up in the Apps Library in iTunes, but not on the touch. All of those apps were listed as being compatible with an iPod touch, but are they not being installed because they're not really compatible, or for some other reason? I have iOS 4.3.1 installed

Since I received your message I explored further into iTunes and discovered some other screens that display what's installed on my iPod. The apps that weren't installed were not checked in the list of apps. However, the box that says something about automatically installing all new apps was checked which was why I've not had trouble getting apps to install in the past. Now I know where to look.

  • Itunes and external HD

One year ago I successfully transferred all of my itunes files onto an external HD. I changed in preferences for the songs I load to dump it automatically to the external. There have been no problems up until recently. The last batch of CD's I loaded into itunes did not go onto the external but instead went directly to the HD of my macbook. It makes no sense. Everything still is set up for the songs to be placed on the external automatically. After noticing this, I copied them from the macbook HD onto the itunes folder on the external ; a pop up came up telling me that some of the artists are already on the external drive and do I want to replace the old with the new? I clicked "no" and checked the "all button:.
The reason I clicked "no" is that the music that was on the macbook HD in itunes was the same "Artist" , but not the same song...For some reason if I would have copied them over to the external- it would have erased the artist and song and replaced it with the one on the HD of the macbook. Granted, where there were no duplication of artists, the files transferred no problem. My two questions are:
    1. How did all of the sudden the itunes files become placed on the macbook HD and not the external when the path under preferences still reads external?
    2. Why is the external not copying duplicated artists with different songs and just adding the additional song file under the already present artist name?
    Thanks
    Kroe

Okay, first make sure that all the songs you like in your iTunes is listed in the iTunes programme. Right now as long as the songs are in the list that's fine let's not worry whether its in your external or internal for now. Go to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced. See if the folder's location is where you want it to be; in your external drive. If it is don't do anything, if it isn't correct it. Now go to the menu bar. Click on Advanced>Consolidate Library. This put everything that's listed in iTunes in one location that's specified in the location that you desire. If you want it in the external then everything will be there.

  • I have orphaned voice memos on my iPhone5 and cannot delete. Listed in iTunes but not on my iPhone's Voice Memo app.

When I upgraded from my iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, a bunch of voice memos were orphaned.
What this means is that when I connect my iPhone to iTunes, I see the voice memos.
They are listed in iTunes under my iPhone directories  "Voice Memo" and in "Music".
    But I cannot delete these.
When I go to my iPhone, the Voice memo app has changed (ok) and you can see there
are no voice memos. It appears that they are orphaned from the voice memo app.
So the voice memos are in my phone somewhere.
How can I delete them or export them or something with them?
I can't play them except on iTunes. They don't show up in Music in my iPhone.
    Thanks for your Help

  • Apple TV won't connect to iTunes and does not show up in my devices list in iTunes.

My older model Apple TV won't connect to iTunes and does not show up in my devices list in iTunes.  I have two Apple TVs in my house and I can't imagine that this is part of the problem but I mention it just in case.  My other Apple TV is brand new and it connects to iTunes just fine.  I've tried most of the "fixes" and one says to Force Sync but I can't since Apple TV isn't in my device list.  Another "Fix" said to Navigate the Apple TV to Settings --> Downloads --> Check for Downloads, but when I tried that there was no option for "Downloads" under the Settings Heading.  I'm at a loss.  Please help.  Could this be an issue with too many authorized devices?  We have three iPads, two iPhones, laptop, desktop, two Apple TVs, and an iPod and most of them are syncing the same music playlists and whatnot...  have I run out of rope?

hi, just posting to everyone in general..its not you, or your apple tv, it is itunes.
ok, ive had the exact same issues for weeks now, as with everyone i had done the lastest upgrade and no longer could see/sync my gen 1 appleTV.........so, i removed the upgrade and went back to the prev version, even though it was showing in my prefs under appleTV, it still wouldnt show in the side panel under devices....i gave up.
This week i was determined to get it to work!  So i started from scratch, totally removed itunes and started back with version 9 and upgrade each version from there, i had no luck, ic clicked find appleTvs but it wouldnt....however i just d/l version 9.2.0.61 and BINGO!. No sooner has it opened and up popped the side panel devices list, showing my appleTV..all ready to be synced etc. I immediately panicked of course haha..and set it all up and its working perfectly.
...Only catch now is that this older version will not be compatiable with my iphone, which i do keep music on...seems we cant win. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr   this will be the same for all the latest apple products.
Apple needs to allow more than one version of itunes per pc OR perhaps they could get their act together and include all of the millions of APPLETV GEN1  owners in there latest upgrading..after all, THEY made the product and THEY do sell the movies/tv shows, perhaps they could stop making all the upgrade all about the music only!......on which i might add why not incluse movies/tv shows in icloud! yet another upgrade that should be included in the APPLETV  GERNERATION 1!..yes we do  still exist!
at the very least, im happy ive managed to get all my movies etc onto the apple tv, where ill keep them and from now on d/l directly onto my apple tv. I usually d/l to my laptop and then send them to the appletv but while trying to get all this sorted i did a test, i d/l a movie  using my appletv hoping it would somehow let itunes "find" it and getting it to show up in my device list, but it didnt work,  however it did sync/send the movie to itunes..  so at least i could save a back up copy.
good luck trying, as i said this has been weeks and this is the only solution ive found so far....and going through these forums its obviouse its itunes thats the issue, NOT Our apple tvs.
