List of missing songs?

I copied my iTunes library from another computer, but apparently something failed in the process, because not all of the files got copied onto my external HD. Perhaps I tried to copy too many files at once.
In any case, I know have a lot of files not found on my system by iTunes (none of them purchased, thankfully, but I've got backups anyway).
I'm willing to copy them over, but I short of copying by hand every single artist/album/song, I'm not sure how to get a list of which files I need to copy.
Is there a simple way to get this list? I mean, I can't even sort by that column that has the exclaimation points in it.

I am guessing that your problem is that not all your music tracks are stored in your iTunes music folder. Songs in your library could be stored in other places and would not be copied if you copy the iTunes music folder.
You can avoid the tedium of finding everything by consolidating your music - see iTunes help on Consolidating files. Consolidate Library is on the Advanced menu.
This ensures copies of all your music files are in your iTunes music folder (it doesn't remove the files from then original locations so uses more space).

It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.

If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

(!) How to locate the original file for missing songs?

I got this message when I last tried to synch my ipod. The message said there were 100 files which could not be found.   Actually more than 100 songs show the exclamation mark that says the file can not be found.
Previous posts on this issue suggest the underlying file has been changed or moved out from the ITunes organisation. Well the last time I synched my ipod on Lion a few days ago it was fine. On Sunday I wiped my hard drive, carried out the upgrade to Mountain Lion as a clean install, and used Migration Assistant to bring my user data over. After that I ran cclean and disk utility permissions and disk verification. Then this happened.
I migrated my iTunes Library to an external hard drive six months ago. That was disconnected during the upgrade so I am not sure why the files can’t be found now.    Anyway, I want to recover the missing files . I could not find them by name, album or artist on the external drive. So I thought I would find them in Time Machine backup #1. I couldn’t!. Nor could I find missing songs on my alternate Time Machine backup #2. Both Time Machine backups are set to include the external drive. Songs recognised in iTunes are visible in the backups, but not the ones that are missing.
I have a third backup volume which was a clone of the Lion setup before I did the upgrade, but I can’t access this or Mac for a few days.
I did have some permissions failures after the 10.7.4 upgrade which resulted in creating 2 new standard user accounts. Maybe I’v e got some files across these users? But in that case I’d have seen problems before the upgrade?   I notice a fair number of these are compilations imported from CD about 4 years ago. Bu tnot all.
(1). Is there a smart way to list all the files that are missing?
I can scroll through all of ITunes Music to see where there are exclamation marks. I’d like to only list these missing songs.
(2). How can I locate the missing media files?
- a search on Name / Album / Artist hasn’t found them in live drives or on TM backups. I’ve still got the missing songs on my iPod, however.
Once I can answer these questions with your help I’ll know what would be the best way to try to recover, and to work out what went wrong. I’m shocked that I can’t find them in backup.   Eventually I can restore audio from original source. If they were photos that went missing from library and backups then I would have no way to get back!
(3) could this happen in iPhoto? (shiver)

Thanks for taking the time to look at my problem. Shared is empty and I didn't back it up - I only transferred the standard and Admin users to the clean install of Mountain Lion.
But I got some valuable insight into how the iTunes library is set up from your article on split Libraries. I'd like to see it in the Tips for iTunes for Mac.   My Itunes library was set up in pre-Itunes 8 structure, and as I'd moved it to an external drive it didn't get migrated to the new structure in recent upgrades, perhaps?
I found your article extremely useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991. That gave me the means to restore the missing files more quickly than getting the original CDs out and re-importing them to iTunes.
So I've now restored the missing files and started the backups rolling ....
I still don't understand how they went missing. However the best backup was the Ipod itself.

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

Missing songs in itunes

When syncing my iphone today, I recieved a message that "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPhone...because they could not be found." All the missing items were ones I had purchased thru iTunes. The songs in question are still on my playlist, but there is an exclimation point next to themthat when clicked on, another message box appears: "...song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" When I choose that option, it takes me to iTunes folder in C drive:\Windows\sysWOW64. I have no idea where the files would be in the huge list that comes up. I haven't deleted anything recently (I synced the iPhone 2 days ago and didn't get the message). My CCleaner and anti-virus have not run yet today. They last ran 3 days ago. Some of the missing songs are actually albums that I purchased. Help?!

You're on the right track - somehow the ITL file got damaged. Nobody knows exactly why this happens - you can google "data corruption" and read about it.
If you don't have a good backup of your ITL file, you're going to have to rebuild your library. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's true. You have 2 options:
You can build on the current ITL library file that has missing songs, if you can figure out what's missing. This method won't lose all your ratings & playcounts.
Or, just start with a an empty library and add your main music folder back into itunes.
Then start making weekly backups of your ITL file so if something like this happens again, you're not totally out of luck.

Exporting list of missing or dead links from iTunes

If you have more than 500 songs in iTunes, sooner or later, you will end up with missing, broken or dead links.
Unlike some who address this issue, I genuinely have missing songs, so wish to export a list so I can then re-import them.
Itunes dupes barrier will create a list of “dead” tracks, but I cannot export it.
I don’t want to remove the broken links until I have decided if I still want the songs or not.
Any ideas?

Nearly 10,000 tracks in my iTunes library and I have NEVER had that issue. Perhaps your statement should be something like, if you start messing around with your folders and files and moving them around, renaming them, etc. outside of iTunes without knowing what you are doing, then you will end up with dead links and missing files. "Itunes dupes barrier" ??? I assume you mean the Show Duplicates function? If so, then when you get that list, all you have to do is a Select All then open your favorite spreadsheet and paste the list in. Everything will line up in nice columns and rows. You can paste into a word processor or text edited as well, but it may be a bit jumbled in the formatting.

Anyway to automatically relink random missing song files in iTunes library? Random songs have "!" while other songs in same album folder are fine.

I can manually relink a missing song by navigating to the album folder in my iTunes media folder where all of my music is stored, but there are hundreds of "missing" songs in my 100+ GB Library. Any way to get iTunes to reconcile the library in a more automated fashion? I am fearful of solutions that may introduce a ton of duplicates.
Would also like to know why this has happened so I can prevent it in future. Why are some songs in an album coming up missing and others in the same root folder playing fine?? It's not like my library is missing, 80% of my music is fine.
My MAC iTunes library is organized by iTunes and all new media is copied into the iTunes folder (which I have "living" on an external USB 500GB hard drive, which I sometimes use with my PC Laptop when I travel - I don't do this often and it has never caused a problem before.)

I used that script and it found all of the MIA "missing" songs and then added them back to my iTunes library (took about 7 hours to auto add about 2000+ songs.) This process also created duplicates, but I was able to use the "Manage Duplicates" feature of iTunes under the File menu to see a list of all duplicates; then I deleted all of the songs with the"!" next to their names (took about 45 minutes.)
So I think in the end this did save me a lot of time and aggrevation.

ok, so i have transferred music from my iPod to iTunes a few times by using the method of going in through my computer, selecting the songs out of the music folder in the iPod, and dragging them to iTunes. the problem is, every time, there is about 100-200 songs more on my iPod than iTunes, and the 100-200 are missing on iTunes, but not on my iPod. i am very careful to get every folder, (i make a list and cross them all out with each folder i put on iTunes, and ive done more steps, but none work, i still am missing 100-200 songs), so its not the fact that i might be forgetting to save a folder. anyway, i have to restore my iPod soon, and i really want to get all of those missing songs from my iPod to my computer, but i can't find them in the folders beacuse theyre random. is there a way to automatically sync iTunes with the iPod, instead of syncing the iPod with the iTunes? even if you can't help this problem, can somebody tell me why i can't seem to get all of my songs off my iPod onto iTunes, even though i make sure to get every folder? any help would be appreciated.

It would appear that the iPod hard drive or iPod software has become corrupt. This doesn't mean that the songs are not on your iPod, hence the fact that the iPod reports used space and iTunes may show them. I've never seen a plausible explanation for why it does this.
You should restore the iPod and then reload the songs from iTunes.
Btw, your 30GB iPod is not an iPod classic.

Please Help - Downloaded an album but missing songs!

Hi Guys,
I am relatively new to iTunes and up until now i havent had a problem. This evening i downloaded a couple of albums but i appear to be missing a couple of songs off each.
I have tried going to "store", "check for available downloads" but it says that i have downloaded everything. I try and download the missing songs but it says that i already have them and i should try what i have said i tried above.
I have been trying to contact Apple for the past hour and couldnt even work out how to contact them so i thought i would try here.
Any help is greatfully received.

That definitely sounds frustrating. If the songs are not playing fully in iTunes, they may have not downloaded completely. See the following article:

Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.

If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
2. Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
3. Download your previously purchased song from this list.
Note: iTunes in the Cloud, which allows you to download previously purchased songs from the iTunes Store, is not available in every country. Learn if iTunes in the Cloud is offered in your country

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then see if it shows under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunee. If it shows there but doesn't have the clpud symbol against it for redownloading then is that track listed in the Music part of your library i.e. where you would click on it to play it ? If it is then delete it from there and it should then get the cloud symbol against it in Purchased.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com . iTunes Support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours.

Let me restate my question, above. I have just joined iTunes and have downloaded the iTunes software onto my Windows 7 laptop. I have now used that iTunes software to find songs in iMusic, that I want to buy. I have found the songs. 40 of them. I put them into the "Wish List". Now I suppose I have to purchase these 40 songs and download each of them onto my laptop, but there are no apparent buttons to make the purchase. Workflow task list is missing or damaged. SharePoint 2010

Customer created workflows for the annual review of our QPC Emergency Plan.
The document library shows that there is a EP_Review workflow “In Progress” for each section.   However if you click into the “In Progress” link to see the actual progress of the workflow it shows no Visio diagram, it’s just a blank white
space (not even an error message) and under the Tasks section it gives the message:
"The workflow task list is missing or damaged. Please contact your administrator for more information"
I looked in the Task List and there are no tasks showing, which normally does show when we kick off a workflow.
I ran a report on the EP_Review workflow for Cancellations and Error messages and the system comes back with the following error message: "Report contains no Data"

it seems you may need to check if should the task able to create at your environement,
you may try this at your development environment first:
Saved a task list as a template from a working site collection and moved the template to the problem site collection. Used this template to create a new list, and associated this list to the Workflows task list.
