It is not easy to list the commonly used queries. It depends on industry, application and also on the requirements of an organization.

In the portal, the queries are organised application area wise.
IN your BW system, they are organised under BI info provider. RSA1 - business content - oibject type - query / query element - search .

Any way to have a list of "most often used folders"?

is there any way to define a list of folders most frequently accessed (by opening them or saving files to them) in the last X days? I'd like to have such a list in my dock, or on the left panel of Finder windows that open up (e.g., for file saving). Is there any way to do that? I work on stuff that's divided into a pretty deep folder structure and instead of a static Favorites list (which would get too unwieldy), I'd like to have it dynamically figure out for me which are the most commonly-used folders for the recent week or whatever. I bought a Macbook Air because I love to travel light. Sadly because of the lack of disk space I struggle to store everything. I live by the 80/20 rule and recognise that I use 20% of the files 80% of the time.
I would like to store all my files (music, photos, etc.) in the cloud or on NAS. I would then like Air to automatically store a subset of files stored locally based on limits I set (favourites, certain photos albums, playlists, and most commonly used files) aka the 20% of files I use 80% of the time. I would then like it so that if I was connected to the internet, I could access any file (without having to use some alternative application / website to access them).
Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Most commonly used format

Hello Everyone,
I have just made a promo reel for my girlfriend and I need some advice as to which format to export it in.
I need to do two things; firstly I want to save it as a file we can give to people on a memory stick or via my idisk. I am not an expert with file formats and this is going to be viewed by people with macs and PC's. Is there a format that is recognised more than all the others? I know the quicktime option is probably the best but then within quicktime there are many other options which I am not sure about.
Secondly (and im being a little lazy here because I haven't begun to learn DVD studio pro), if im planning on burning this to DVD, which format will DVD studio pro want to work with? (the footage is NTSC)

It must just be the film industry then. I deal with all sorts of codecs on a daily basis and every time anyone comes across a .wmv file in our company they complain (and we're mainly on PCs except for us in editorial).
We have done extensive research into which codecs are most common, easiest for a machine to run, maintains consistent color across platforms, and doesn't require additional downloads. We deal with everyone from super tech savvy people (we're in visual effects) to producers and directors that only check their e-mail and surf the web.
MotionJpegA and/or PhotoJpeg have zero color loss when compared to the original files. The codec has been around for quite a while so it will play even in older versions of Quicktime. The main drawback is that the file size can get quite large.
My girlfriend is in market research and consulting and she says they use .wmv files all the time. She also said they have had a few cases when they've sent the files to a client on a Mac only to have the client become frustrated because they had a hard time playing them back.
Codecs are a messy thing and certain codecs work best for certain situations. We have had more success with H.264 than Windows Media files but that is just our experience. If you plan on sending it mainly to PC users in a professional office environment then Windows Media will probably work great, if you plan to send it out to a professional creative environment on mixed platforms I would look at using something else.

How do I get back my most common used websites when I open a new tab?

When I used to open a new tab I used to get my most frequent websites come up on the new screen. Now when I do it I get a search engine page (similer to google) come up. I would much rather the list of my most used websites. Thank you.

I can't get ahome page that has 6 or 8 tablets of most common used websites. Tried Option "use current pages" without success. Can you help?s

Since having Firefox I have used as a Home page a page with "tablets" showing the most recent pae of my most popular websites. By clicking on this I returned immediately to that site. Suddenly it's disappeared and I can't get it back. I tried "Options Use current pages" but that doesn't work. Help!

You can set the home page to about:newtab to have the page with the 5x3 tiles showing.
You can check the home page setting:

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

Does anyone know how to create List of most recent used files and display it in the main menu?

You could recurse over the file system, creating a bunch of File objects, which you'd stick into a List. Then create a comparator that sorts the objects by File.lastModified() value, descending.
Then you'd have a sorted list, from which you could easily take the N most recent files.
Of course, the recursing would take a while. You may want to put creation and/or updating of this list, into a low priority thread.

Offhand, you'll have to do it the hard way. I don't think Swing or Awt provide a default JMenuItem(), MenuItem() that does the file list. Now that you mention it, it does seem like an interesting project to do.
You essentially need an array of the files, and for each file, create the associated menu entry, as in:
String entryName = files[ i ];
if ( entryName.length > 10 ) {
entryName = entryName.subString( 0, 10 );
JMenuItem entry = new JMenuItem( i + ". " + entryName );
...and define the event listeners however appropriate for your application.

can anyone please tell me, what is most commonly used abstract class in java. this question was asked in interview.

I hate interviewers when they ask about specifics of some classes.The fact that you hate it doesn't automatically follow that it's a bad question from the perspective of the person conducting the interviewer. You don't know what the real question is.
Bad "real" question: Do you know the statistics of Java usage off the top of your head?
Good "real" question: Do you know that Object isn't Abstract and can you name a few Abstract classes off the cuff?
Even then Programmers are so literal minded - the real question may be "Talk about what you know a bit."

Most common Java Runtime used by Windows Users

I would like to know, what runtime environment is most commonly installed in Windows machines.
On my website I use applets, however, I do not know which version of Java to use. The latest version has close to zero users who have it installed - and i dont want to anger my visitors with PLEASE DOWNLOAD LATEST JAVA RUNTIME messages. however, what ive been using so far, 1.1.8, is positively ANCIENT!
i have been using that to be compatible with the MVM, but now i need additional features that come only 1.2 onwards... but do people have the JVMs for those versions?
which should be my target compilation for optimum results?
or should i just lump it and stick with 1.1.8?
bear in mind that my target consumer is the average browser who doesnt have any high tech knowledge/inclination

There are really too many considerations, but here's my take on it....
If you can write it to support 1.1.8 (although, technically, the MS JVM was really 1.1.4, but that won't matter much), then you could do that. Most of the people with the latest plugin versions will be using the plugin to run the applet anyway.
But if you have to do stuff with Swing and some of the newer API stuff for 1.2 or higher, then I personally don't think it's worth the hassle to include the swingall.jar for Swing in 1.1.8, or to try to write/find AWT components that are rich enough to mimic Swing. My feeling is that eventually, you have to move on, cut the cord, whatever.
IE/Windows isn't supposed to have the MS JVM anymore anyway. I haven't heard anything about MS putting it back in. Older systems (98, ME will, XP won't, especially after SP2) will still have it though. Netscape, Opera and Safari users will have to have the plugin anyway (except Netscape 4.x, which I hope no one's still using).
One of the bigger considerations tends (or tended) to be that the JRE/Plugin was a fairly large download. So for dial-up users, that's a problem. For broadband users, that's not a problem at all, and I think I recently saw an article claiming broadband has overtaken dial-up in the US. No idea about other countries though. As mentioned, it can be set up to auto-download and install.
If you are going to go with the plugin, stick with 1.4 for now, as more will have that then have upgraded to 1.5. Those that have, well, it won't matter.
And finally, a lot of PC manufacturers (Dell, certainly) have been installing the JRE 1.4 for the last 2 couple of years anyway.
Some people will certainly say that applets suck and aren't worth doing and there's no user support and all this stuff. Or tell you to try to use Flash, as the plugin has a larger install base.
Flash is certainly something usable, if you want to buy Flash. But there are things that Java can do that Flash can't. There are certainly things Flash is better at then Java applets. So it comes down to what the thing needs to do.

How do I edit the Screen Sharing 'Most Recently Used' files list ?

I have recently added a mac mini to the network at home, and will be using this as a headless device. I am connecting remotely (using screen sharing) which works well. I have set the Sceeen Sharing icon to remain permanently visible on the dock, ad by right clicking, I get a list of the most recently used shares.
The trouble is, that some of theses shares no longer exist, and tghere is also some duplication.
I would like to edit this list, but cannot find out how to do it.
Can anyone help please ?

Whats most common naming convention for MP3s (what does iTunes store use?)

Trying to organise all my tags and music.
I am using iTunes and some other tag (tag%rename) WMP etc, as some seem to not show all the tgs of other programs)
However what is the generalised, most common naming convention for MP3 files?
ie. track no, Album, artist etc.
Also Ive never bought music from iTunes store yet, only got podcasts and stuff, but when you do , what is the filename convention they use please?

iTunes has no automatic tag look up function for anything other than CDs (through GraceNote). I import a lot of mp3s (legally obtained) that need tweaking. Also, GraceNote doesn't provide lyrics. If I just need to edit a couple of tracks, the iTunes interface is fine. But for bulk adding of artwork or searching for release dates or lyrics, I use MpFreaker. I find it works best if you do small batches and keep an eye on what it comes up with. Sometimes, well, rarely, it's way off base.
There may be better utilities out there but MpFreaker was recommended to me by someone I trust who spends a lot of time reviewing such things and it works for me so I haven't looked for anything else. You might find more reviews of other software at www.ilounge.com
