List of  soundcards/audio interfaces working under Mac OS 10.6 + Logic 9 ?

hey everybody,
I have a Digidesign Digi 002 and the Core Audio drivers for Snow Leopard are not avalaible yet.
I am looking to get another soundcard/interface until the Digi 002 drivers are available.
What cards/interfaces are compatible with Snow Leopard + Logic 9 ?
Is there a list of all compatible cards/interfaces ?
Thanks for your help

I guess you're up & running by now with your 002rack.
I have a similar system to you. I've just upgraded to LP9 (updated to 9.0.2) & OSX 10.6.1
I then had to upgrade to PT8 - then update to PT8.3cs and finally I'm up and running with both logic & pro tools.
The only problem I now have is due to organising my loop browser. Re indexing has proved hit and miss.
After I pull in a folder from an external drive, I notice that previous folders added to my browser have gone.
Also I can't find the 're-index' option within the loop browser search option (right click brings down a list but the re-index option isn't there)
Interested to see what you find.

It depends on how much you want to spend and how many channels you want to record/playback at once. So any decent (normally) external audio interface should do provided it also has robust ASIO drivers for your operating system. Don't go  for a gamer's interface though as they are not optimised for audio recording.

  • Hi, Ive been trying to hook up my M-Audio interface to my Mac Book Pro 15 laptop and it doesnt have the same size firewire port is there some kind of adapter i can buy?

Hi, Ive been trying to hook up my M-Audio interface to my Mac Book Pro 15 laptop and it doesnt have the same size firewire port is there some kind of adapter i can buy?

Just Google for a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable, you are sure that this is what you have I hope?

  • Do I 'need' an audio interface on modern Macs?

    Hi there
Don't think I've posted on here in nearly 10 years but I'd be really glad of some help.
I currently record on a 2003 eMac running 10.3.9 using Garageband 06. I record directly into the audio in via a tube preamp.
I am considering finally upgrading and am weighing up the relative merits of a Mac Mini or an iMac. I am clueless about the technological advances made since I last bought a computer and would appreciate some help. Clearly both those computers will be a quantum leap forward from my eMac.
So, specifically, would I need an audio interface with either of the above computers or is the internal soundcard and audio in sufficient? As stated, I don't currently use a USB or Firewire interface and use the eMacs internal soundcard.
I only record audio and don't use virtual instruments but we have an electronic drum kit knocking about so we may consider using it as a midi trigger at some point. We are an indiepop band so your usual guitar, bass, drums and vocals. I do not expect 'pro' quality as we are a DIY band, hence I've managed for so long with GB. However we've done singles on small indie labels and are releasing an album next year which I'm halfway through recording. I'd just like a bit more power to add some decent reverbs, compression etc to the recordings, but also need to consider how I get audio into the machine in future. I would like to get Logic so that takes some of my budget too. Our songs currently have a maximum of about 10 tracks of audio, I don't envisage going much further than that.
Hopefully that gives you my basic requirements, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot
    Leon

The built-in audio-in should yield the same results i would imagine, i've used it before and it' s been fine.  I guess the iMac's etc have a seperate audio-in still?  I know they were stripped from the macbook's (bah!).
But obviously, you really should get an interface if you want to get serious, as not only will it give you better sound quality, but more control on the sound going in (Gain etc.).

  • Do all FireWire 400 audio interfaces work on a FireWire 800 bus?

I have assumed that one can continue to use FW400 on the new MacBookPros with an adapter cable. But responding to a post where I noted that I was unable to daisychain an RME FW 400 to a FW800 harddisk, a forum member tells me that many FW400 audio-interfaces don't work on FW800 buses, and thus even an adapter cable would'nt work.
    Is this true?
If so, the whole music/audio community on Mac will have to switch to PC, no other solution.

Although there might be a few specific devices that might have trouble, most firewire 400 devices will work with an adapter to 800. And unlike what a bunch of people on this forum complain about, having a 400 device chained with an 800 WILL NOT slow the 800 down. A few minutes doing some simple research on how firewire works would stop people from spreading incorrect information.

  • Which audio interfaces work well with CoreAudio?

A number of older USB and Firewire audio interfaces do not appear to work properly with Tiger's CoreAudio, which promises major advantages in very low latency recording. Without a proper CoreAudio driver, audio can be reduced to mostly noise with just a trace of audio remaining.
This information is difficult to find until you actually try to use a device and find that it doesn't work. Several devices I tried out last summer right after Tiger was released did not work, though they promised fixes, but I don't want to have to pay more restocking fees for devices that don't work
Could someone post a list (or a link to a list) of devices that DO work? Thanks!

    Hi there,
don't buy M-Audio interfaces! I had USB and FireWire audio interfaces from them, their hardware is ok, but the software (drivers) suck! I had extremely bad latency problems. I even started a thread about it a while ago. Now I use an EDIROL FA-66 FireWire audio interface. It's a little more expensive than the M-Audio, but it works and it does NOT need any drivers because it's fully Core Audio compatible! Works good for me. I've heard similar good opinions on the Presonus FW interfaces. Hope that helps!

  • This is an embarassment! What audio interface works reliably with 10.5.2?

For years Mac's have been the computer of choice for professional musicians and I was an early adherent dating back to the 80's and the first Apple MacIntoshes using MOTU Digital Performer V 1. I wandered away to PC land to do some C+ programming and recently returned with a brand new MacBook Pro only to find that the audio interfaces I have tried do not work with 10.5.2. I have tried a Firewire Interface from Tascam and a USB interface from M-Audio. Both created problems ranging from system crashes to simply not working. Is there an interface that works reliably with Leopard, 10.5.2? I can't try them all? The hardware manufacturers are scurrying to make their stuff work. Why is it so hard and why don't we hear more from Apple on this issue? Musician's have been a large part of the Mac universe. How about some support?

Ok, Bucesam, you're freaking me out. I do periodic recording with my PowerBook using a Firebox. I've used my MacBook Pro several times since I got it, too. I just upgraded the MacBook to 10.5.2. Are you telling me the next time I need it for remote recording it won't work? I can't take time to check now, but will, probably right before I need it. Dang. Like a complete idiot, I blithely overwrote the 10.4.11 backup after all seemed right with 10.5.2. If anything, I would have expected even better core audio implementation in 10.5.
Enough of my ignorant hand wringing. Can someone who knows what they're talking about (not me) speak to this before brucesam and I commit sepuku?

  • Recommendations for audio interface with new mac pro to avoid latency?

    Hi friends,
I have a new Mac Pro on order for editing video in FCPX, but Presonus says my older Presonus Firebox won't work with Mavericks and the new Mac Pro. Do you have a recommendation for a replacement?
I only use the interface to drive 2 powered expternal speakers and a headset, so I don't need something super sophisticated.
As I read about units, almost all come with USB 2.0 connections. But the new Mac Pro only offers USB, Thunderbolt 2, Dual Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI 1.4 Ultra HD inputs. If I can't find a fairly inexpensive audio interface with USB 3.0, I'd have to go through another connection to get into the Mac Pro.
The key for me is to make sure and avoid latency, a critical issue for editing video.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks. Duncan

    Thanks Mark and Smokerz,
Your point about USB2 working in USB3 ports is something I wasn't aware of. That opens a lot of doors for me. And I'll look into the Yamaha sound board as one possibility.
Thank you both for helping me.

  • What is the best audio interface for new mac ?i

I'm new to Apple and have been with tacsam neo 2488 and would like to know witch audio interface would to start with

  • For guitar, vocals, keyboard/drumpad controller, what is the best audio interface to use/record quality sound in Logic, Mainstage, Garageband, etc. (lowbudget)?

So many to choose from. im really just trying to record clean sounding electric guitar tracks now vocals in the future and keyboard/drumpad controller near future..(irrelevant but thought i should mention im in the market for a keyboard and drumpad controller combo hopefully will be usb or something) but i need a quality audio interface to use with Logic Pro 9 and all the stuff that comes with it (mainstage, etc) and also Garageband. I have heard so many different reviews about this or that but all in all i dont think i can afford an apogee except maybe the apogee One but it at 249 or whatever i feel like i could get alot more bang for my buck. Ive heard alot of good things about m-audio gear but i heard mixed reviews as well. If someone can just tell me what is the best interface in the 100-200$ range for the needs ive listed above...Any responses or advice greatly apprecitated.
    Thanks

    hi mm
there are so many different sound cards out there these days it seems - ill just say that one that i got alot of use out of was the tascam 122 (http://www.tascam.com/Products/US-122.html)
it has 2 decent phantom powered XLR inputs, some midi stuff, a place to plug a guitar into and some nice big knobs.
the next level would be something with more ins (8 or 10) and probably firewire, and also around $400 i think.
oh, and your computer should be more than sufficient to handle what you want to do.

  • Audio Interface and Converter HardWare for my future Logic

    Hello, I'm French.
I will buy a logic studio 9 software + a mac pro computer
But i don't really know what Audio Interface and Converter HardWare take?
I'm look for Digidesign + HD Cards or Apogee System or RME, MOTU
After I will buy an SSL mixage table for my studio (in a long time^^)
Sorry for the bad english :S

Logic and Protools don't have exactly the same concept when it comes to audio hardware. But if you want Apogee hardware to use with Logic, then there are options for either PCI-based or FireWire. Go and look at the Apogee site:

  • I need a list of printers that will work with Mac 9.1.

The 2 printers I have bought for my iMac 9.1 have permanently crashed and I need to see a list of under $150 printers that are compatible. I want something like the discontinued hp 4215. I was oblivious to this problem and purchased a hp 4315 that won't work and the store where I got the product was of no help in finding me something that is compatible. I appreciate all suggestions, but both my Brother MFC-3220c and an HP $49 printer broke on me. I hear Epson might work better for me. Thanks for your help!!
iMac OS 9.1   Mac OS 9.1.x

Hey Jeff: Thanks for the info. I will check on eBay and see what I find. I have been looking for over a month and had no idea that the 9.1 was so extinct! I am currently looking for a job and you really need a printer for resumes, cover letters,etc...and I am tired of trecking off to the library. Thanks again. Ray

  • Isync doesn't work under mac os 10.4.5

Hi. My isync won't work after my recent update to 10.4.5
-- I just get the swirling colored disk of death when I click on SYNC under SYSTEM PREFERENCES and have to force quit.
    What's going on?
    Thanks. Lisa

Oh Gosh, I'm so very sorry!! I was so flustered that it didn't work that I just grabbed at the first sync topic I came to.
Thanks for the help even though I posted in the wrong place!
    Sincerely!
    Lisa
you are not talking about iSync but about .Mac
sync... your question should be more suited to the
    .Mac forum.
However, .Mac sync'ing got some problems this week,
it seems and it is currently disabled. As seen on
    www.mac.com:
".Mac sync services are currently unavailable.
Changes made to synced information will be reflected
when the problem is resolved. All other .Mac services
    are unaffected."

Driver is not listed and downloading the driver from HP still does not work. Guess HP has not yet updated for Snow Leopard. Anyone have a work around for now?
I use this little black and white laserjet for all of my documents. Also have a few color Epsons but I do not want to use those for quick and dirty documents.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The temporary solution (works good) is to download old drivers for HP P1000-1500 series (v.1.04) at following link:
