List of tunes by genre

I have coded selected tunes in a custom genre, woodwind. Only some of those, however, show up in the listing by that genre.

Well, shut my mouth! There was a similar question over to the right about a 6th generation nano repeating over and over again -- I read the answer to that one, followed the instructions, and holy crap, it's back to normal.

Ipod touch genre duplicates itself in my music list. So both genres have the same list of songs.. how can i correct this?

Now, is it synced via wireless or USB?
When I upgraded my 4 to iOS 7, I had that very problem. The phone said all my music was on it, but when I tapped on a song, it would show the icon as though it was playing and after a couple if seconds, it would skip to the next song.
Here's what I did: Reconnect and do another sync. Or, back-up your phone, do a restore and then trying syncing your files again.

Idea to help clean up Browse / Top Lists since update & add genre to playlist

Hi Spotify.
Since your recent update this week, the Browse / Top Lists fuction is not very fucnctionable. There are many user curated playlists missing where we used to be able to search from.
I'm sure there is a clean up operation in your back end, whereby you are releasing more Spotify curated playlists based on genre/mood.
However in order to be able to enhance the user experience, why don't you enable a function whereby if a user is to release a 'public playlist' then there should be an option to categorize by genre. Then based on followers / trending, a playlist could be filtered into one of your Genres & Mood boxes as well as featuring in the Top Lists section of Browse.
Perhaps under "+ New Playlist " (Sidebar in Desktop version), you could have a "+ New Advanced Playlist" and this could be the option for the user who want to categorize their playlist to a genre.
I'm aware that some users would put the wrong genres based on the tracks added.
However I'm sure you can filter this before adding to a Genre & Mood box. Surely its just a simple bit of code check as each track must have a categorization in the digital meta data.
In this feature user should be able to drag & drop old uncategorised playlists into this function to be able to categorize without losing content or followers. Or alternatively when right-clicking on an old playlist have the option to 'add genre'.
Or if you are moving away from having user created playlists from the 'Top Lists', then perhaps you should have a 'user playlists' section for us to browse through.
If you had a decent genre pick option, then after a certain time, your data will tell you which new playlist genres are trending/popular wherby you could react by adding that new genre to the Genres & Moods'.

I got a new PC and was able to get my list of tunes to show but will not play, message comes up "original file cannot be found, would like to locate" I no longer have old PC but do have shuffle with all tunes

I got a new PC and unable to get my tunes to play after I transfereed them over via a thumb drive. The message I get is, "original file cannot be found, would you like to locate" and of course it cannot locate on this PC. I no longer have that computer (gave to mother in a different state). I do have my shuffle that has all my tunes on it. I have read several things on this website from using a third party device to transfer tunes from shuffle to de-authorizing old computer and authorizing this one. No definitive instructions. Please help. I want to get these tunes to play and then buy new music. Oh and the home sharing I believe is only if you still have original computer.

The shuffle is not a backup device.
Was the media actually moved from the old computer to the new computer? If not, how did you magically make the content appear on the new system?
Use the backup of the old computer to put all the content on the new computer.

Lost old nano new one will not download my whole list of tunes

How is your iPod set up to sync music from your iTunes library? In other words, what options do you have selected/enabled from under your iPod's Music and Summary tabs?

Song lists to purchase, produced from a search, don't show genre

I just downloaded the latest itunes software and now find when I do a search for songs to purchase with a particular name or artist to purchase, the list of songs does not show the music genre for each song as it did in the last version of itunes. Am I missing some adjustment that can be made to the format of the lists so they show genre? This is a real problem when I just searched for the "Old Timey" songs with the name Cindy - since I get nearly a 1000 songs and the list doesn't tell me whether they are new age, rock or country etc.

Also try downloading from the iTunes Store home page via the Purchased Quicklink on the right.
Difficult to say what the issue is here in terms of whether it's an itunes problem rearing its head or a problem with itunes accessing files on the drive where you need to store things.

Under "Get Info", how do I remove a genre from the list of genres? The list has become large and unwieldy...!

Your answer shows how to remove a genre that shows up on an ipod. I believe that the question being asked is how to remove a genre from the pulldown list in itunes.
At any rate, I'd love to know if there is a way to remove genres from the pulldown list on itunes, assuming that there are no songs listed under the genre that I want to delete.
It is my understanding that a couple of years ago, this was not possible. If that is still the case, does that apply to just the genre names that come in the list or also with genres that I added, but now want to delete?

I was so excited about the iTunes/iPhone ringtones feature that I downloaded it on the first day.
Then I was totally disappointed to only get 6 "bells" to show up on my library of 600+ songs !
Is there something wrong ? That seems kinda on the low side of 500,000 choices and you'd think I'd have a few more....not a Christmas carol, a song from the 80's , 60's and even more recent tunes like Madonna ??? esp" Hung up". I have a very versatile library covering several genres and decades , so what's up with that? Thank you for any suggestions you might have...at this point I don't even know what to "buy" new as I was hoping to use some the tunes already in my library.

How may I appease the Store? The message first appeared a couple of weeks ago and seems to reappear every time I download something from the App Store, be it an update or a new app. I tried re-downloading and re-deleting "Tuner!" (this is the only one whose name I can see), but to no avail. I even tried hiding a whole load of apps from my Purchased list (including Tuner!) in the hope that the five offenders would GO AWAY and stop waiting around being nuisances ;) I haven't noticed them slowing down/stopping my other downloads, so I never paid the pop-up notice much attention, but it is starting to bug me now.

I have been getting the message from time to time over the last couple of weeks. I just click through, and the download haooens anyway. The other day I looged onto my accout in apple.com, and it simply wanted me to verify the ccv on the credit card.
I am glas your solution worked, but I am not sure you needed to do a full wipe and reinstall. There is some goofy stuff going on with the store, but nothing you can't get by.

Trying to understand the Music app... Genre question

K... There are so many problems I have with the Music app, but this question is the focus on one.. I understand that I cannot play an entire Genre of music in iOS7 (without creating a Smart Playlist for each Genre from within iTunes), and I've come to terms with that....but I just realized I can't even see the specific songs that genre has.
I dunno how to explain it, but I'll try...
I have all of Adam Lambert's albums in iTunes and I have right clicked songs and set them to specific genres, some are pop, some are rock, and I have one lone Adam Lambert song in my "Dance" genre. On my iPhone, with iOS7, I go to the Music app...tap Genres...tap Dance...and it shows Adam Lambert...so I tap on it and it shows me ALL 70 songs, NOT the one single song I have listed in the Dance genre. Now, if I go to Genres on iTunes and go to the Dance section, then that one single Adam Lambert song shows up. This occurs with every artist, not just him. If I go to Rock, it shows all of them as well. It's as if...if you have an artist with a song in multiple genres it decides all of the songs should be in all of those genres. What's the point of it?
I don't understand the point of the Genre section on the iPhone if I can't even sort my stuff correctly. Am I missing something or is this just how it is now?

In Vista you need to look for the Users folder, then open the AppData folder. Then open the Local folder and delete the Temp folder.
You ran MS Installer Cleanup? No dont know how
You deleted corrupted or incorrect registry keys No dont know how

I-tunes 6 won't do anything

I downloaded V6 from Apple, but nothing happens when I run the install file. I get one window that lists "I-tunes + Quicktime", then nothing. Normally I get a window that prompts for language and then several other windows to accept the license agreement. No error codes come up either. I was able to install the new Ipod updater just fine. I tried cleaning the registry as mentioned in several other posts, but still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can song Genre be changed?

When I'm browsing "genres" I have noticed that not all songs from the same genre are being grouped together. When I look under Christmas, at first it said there was one song. Now it says there are 4 Artist, 5 Albums. I know I have at least 25 Christmas songs.
It does seem to be gathering info, as the song count has changed, but is there another way? Some even have the word Christmas in the title or prefaced before the song title. I'm not sure how it is picking what it deems to be "Christmas". Is making a playlist my only option?
I have also noticed that the "Genius" isn't that much of a Genius. It has Shania Twain following Glenn Miller How in the world would those two artists or song style go together?

You can change the Genre of a particular track in iTunes by right->clicking on the track and selecting the Get Info option. Then head to the Info tab and use the drop down list to choose a Genre.
As to Genius being a little funky, I have had some of the same issues, but fiddling around with a track's meta data to better match the actual album and track info has helped.

By 'wrong', do you mean you made a mistake or Apple?
If you want to change genre, you may need to ask Apple directly for help in case they need to re-review based on that change.
If Apple mistakenly placed it despite your settings, you should ask Apple directly as well.
