List of VGA bios'

Im looking for a list of downloadable vga bios' (particularly for my 8850).  the live update cant get a list of available bios' from the server.  ive searched the site and i cant find it.  i found a reference to this in an earlier post, but i want to see a list of all available bios'

Thoroughly, and testing worked only on the listed values. I tried vbetest -m 357 with no success. And I remembered to add 512 before typing the value in the command line.
I consider it strange, because, fbset makes it just work, but a bit late, and in effect during the bootup the screen first changes resolution to 1024x768, then, after running fbset, to 1440x900

  • KT6 Delta (MS-6590 V2) hangs @ Testing VGA BIOS

    Hiya,
My sons machine has been running extremely well for about 4 months or so but started playing up a couple of days ago - to put it simply, the display would corrupt, produce a chequerboarding (usually pink and green) effect and occasionally blank out altogether :(
Eventually, the machine refused to start at all - I checked the D-Bracket and it showed that the machine was hanging at the Testing VGA BIOS stage.
We replaced the motherboard and the machine is now fine. My question is simple really - the components that were used with the MSI board are now in use with the replacement board so that shows that they are OK so, what could cause the MSI board to hang at this stage ? Is it the board thats faulty ? It`s only about 5 months old and has performed flawlessly until now.
    TIA

  • VGA Bios questions...

My VGA card is MSI FX5600-TD256.
    Here are my questions:
1)Which is the latest Bios version for my card? My current version is 4.31.20.39.00. Is there a newer one? Searching through the web I found another version including this text in the read me file:
    Quote
    MSI GeForce FX BIOS
Name     : GeForce FX 5600 BIOS
    Version  : 4.31.20.69.00    Ultra : No
2)Is it worth updating the bios? (I have restart problems probably caused by graphics card...)
3)Which is the proccess I have to follow to update it? (Just copy the .rom file in a disk and boot from that disk??)
4)Why in MSI site there are no VGA Bios files?
5)How do I back up my current VGA bios version?
    Thanks in advance...

If MSI live Update finds no BIOS upgrade then there is no BIOS upgrade available. Even if there is one available, I don't recommend updating VGA BIOS unless there is a known documented issue relating to your problem. As far as I know there is no issue currently. I have not come across this issue in these forums either.
I don't have any answers to your restart problem since you did not provide any details of this restart problem. I cannot guarantee I would even if you did, but do so anyway.
I never update VGA BIOS's so I can't help you on backing up your current VGA BIOS. Someone else will have to step in for that.
The MSI site doesn't archive VGA BIOS files for the public. MSI only updates the original VGA BIOS from nVidia in circumstances such as when they decide to use a different RAM package than specified from nVidia spec. Oftentimes I see users reporting that MSI Live Update hosed their VGA BIOS after an update and in a few circumstances I have been able to request the original BIOS file.
Again, it's not worth updating the VGA BIOS as they get it right the first time and they hardly ever deviate from the original nVidia BIOS unless a certain RAM package is used for say an OEM version of the card or a performance version where they may use a faster package etc.
I recommend looking elsewhere for your restart problem.

  • VGA bios - Geforce 4 MX 460 VTP

    Hi
How download the VGA Bios for my Geforce 4 MX 460 VTP ???
    thanks

you have to use Live Update to search any BIOS image. However, i dont recommend you to do this because Live update is known to make die video boards. If you have any problem related to BIOS, it is better to keep dealing with those problems instead of getting a death video card. Anyway if you really want to flash the BIOS, first look for a green jumper on the card. It is the TwinBIOS function, to recover original BIOS without losing the video card. If you dont have this jumper, then i STRONGLY recommend not to flash your video card BIOS!

  • Trying coreboot...vga bios issue

hi. I'm giving coreboot a try, but i've found a couple of problems.
Now, the documentation says if i dont have an external VGA adapter (PCI, AGP, PCIe), i need to add the VGA BIOS.
this is the page with the procedures: http://www.coreboot.org/VGA_support
My MoBo is the Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H (Award BIOS), which has an on-board VGA. So i guess that means i have to add the bios.
first theres is the option of specify directly the path, filename, vendor_id and device_id. but i dont have the faintest idea about what path and filename are.
The first method to get it is a program called bios_extract, which i've compiled and run (according to the doc, ./bios_extract hdmag217.rom), without any success, it does not find the file hdmag217.rom
I tried too a former software called awardeco, but it says it doesnt find via.rom
Another method is a direct copy of the bios via dd. So i guess bios ROM it's supposed to be mapped into RAM.
In order to know the sizer of the rom i need to check /proc/iomem and look for ROM. Well it doesnt appear ROM anywhere.
The VGA on-board is an ATI HD4200. Is it possible it is taken as a pci card although is built on the mobo?
I dont wanna flash the bios without having everything clear, so i wanted to make sure first.
    cheers.

You need to do this after restoring your BIOS:
    # cat /proc/iomem | grep 'Video ROM' | (read m; m=${m/ :*}; s=${m/-*}; e=${m/*-}; \
    dd if=/dev/mem of=vgabios.bin bs=1c skip=$[0x$s] count=$[$[0x$e]-$[0x$s]+1])
(That is one line, copy and paste the whole thing). Credit: coreboot wiki

  • Looking for VGA BIOS [8800GT-T2D512E-OC]

I am looking for latest VGA BIOS for MSI 8800GT-T2D512E-OC since this card is not detected by my Motherboard and MSI Live Update BSODs on launch using my friends system.

    decalpha,
Did you phone, email, or use the online support request form? (http://support.msi.com.tw)
Don't forget, it is holiday period, so reply might take a while longer.
For support requests submitted at the link above, you have to go back to that page to see any response
Support request was logged online @ (http://support.msi.com.tw) on 4th of December stating this problem.
In the mean time I had to flash my Motherboard BIOS as requested by support among other things.
And last week I was asked to flash the VGA BIOS which requires a different system. But, MSI LIVE update would BSOD on launch.
Anyway, as you said the delay in reply may be due to holiday season. Guess, will have to wait for some more time.
Hopefully I wouldn't have to return the card.

  • Downloadable VGA Bios?

I cannot use LiveUpdate to update the bios of my graphics card as I don't have internet access at my home.
Is there any downloadable version of VGA Bios for MSI graphics card?
    I'm using Geforce4 MX440 SE ( MS-8878 )
    TQ!

Actually I have problem turning on SBA and Fastwrite. I'm using K7T Turbo2(MS-6330 Ver5.0) motherboard.
When I run some benchmarking program (eg. 3D Mark 2001), the status of sideband addressing (SBA) and fastwrite (FW) of both the card and motherboard are shown as follow:
    Graphics Card:
    SBA: not supported
    FW: supported but not enabled
    Motherboard:
    SBA: supported but not enabled
    FW: not supported
I tried very hard to force the SBA features using variety of software (Rivatuner, PowerStrip), but all failed.
Is it possible to force on either (or both) features? I heard that there are ways to force the features in low-level.
    Helps & Advices pls!
    TQ!

  • Downgrade vga bios

    Hi ,
I have a NX6600GT VTD128 and I have updated  ( big mistake ) the vga bios to the latest version using Live update.
The current bios is 5.43.02.64.00 but I don't have the previous one.
The thing is that i lost the temp readings from the display manager .
Is there any way I can retrieve the previous bios version?
I did the upgrade because I had some artifacts when using 3d models in Autocad and when playing games ( Freelancer ) and I still
having them even after formatting the HDD.
After formatting I use first the MSI drivers , I unistall them and use the latest NV drivers (Fware 93.71 )
    Still the same.
    thanks

Coolbits is simply a small file that adds registry entries so that hidden capabilities in the nVidia settings panel become available.  You can get Coolbits from Guru3D, http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815 .   RivaTuner has even more capabilities, http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner&menu=8
    Quote from: Guru3D
    Software Description
Coolbits 2 unleashes hidden function within ForceWare drivers, it enables several new Direct3d and OpenGL configuration tabs, and even more tweaking capability from the nVidia taskbar settings panel.
    FAQ:
    Q. I dont see the temperature settings, is this due to my card?
    A. The temp settings panel is only available with cards equipped with thermal sensors. Some cards that I know of have temp sensors are 5700 Ultra, 5800 Ultra, 5900 non-Ultra and Ultra, and 5950 ultra. But really it all comes down to the manufacturer. I have seen some 5700 and 5900 without temp sensor, but mainly the cheaper XT/LX/SE versions.
    Q. The Fan always on doesn`t seem to work
    A. The 'fan always on' option is for cards with the OTES (i.e. 5800U) or similar cooling system in which shuts off in 2d mode. It will force fan on even in 2D mode. Of course this means the fans on the hs/f be designed such a way that this option can work.
    Q. I thought it enabled Opengl 2.0. It doesn't though.
    A. OpenGL Shading Language 2.0 can only be enabled on 55.xx and higher Forceware drivers. It had not yet been implemented in older Detonator or pre 55 Forceware drivers.
    Q. Where is the application profiles page?
    A. It has been disabled to allow for OpenGL and Direct3d tabs. You can re-enable the application profiles page by changing its respective value to 1 in the coolbits file.
If you experience any minor problems, simply uninstall/reinstall your display driver. I would recommend using Driver Cleaner as well, especially when switching driver versions.
Unpack the achive (self extracting) and then in the setup directory simply click on the .reg file. To get to these options simply right-click on your desktop and go to 'NVIDIA Analog Display' (Win XP/2003). For Win 2000 and lower you may need to get to the Nvidia Control Panel the old way. Right click desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce xxxx
*NOTE: Coolbits 2 is not fully compatible with driver versions older than 55.xx. If you do happen to run this tweak with drivers older than 55.xx you will more than likely get errors at startup! To enable full compatibility, you must disable the options that are causing issues with your current setup.

  • Failed vga bios update

I used the liveupdate 3 to update my vga bios and when it rebooted the computer the videocard wont work now.  I flipped the twinbios to the safe mode but nothing happened.  When i put my old card in it works fine.  Any suggestions?

Nope, I don't think so, not on the Dongle unless MSI is doing something I do not know about.
The Jumper is located on the card itself, please refer to the manual for the location.
If you have flashed the wrong BIOS:
The MSI cards have a dual bios feature.
Move the jumper to 2'nd position (there is only one jumper on the cards).
    Boot with the secondary bios
Move jumper back while system is up and running
Use live update again (the backup bios is not being overwritten since you moved the jumper back).

  • VGA Bios download without internet connection

    Hello,
can anybody help me? My problem is that one PC (including MSI GeForce 5700) that I use has no internet connection available.
I would like to download new VGA Bios, which I think should be downloadable with
    MSI Live Update utility.
Is there any way how to download it on different machine and flash BIOS offline ?
    OTIZZ

    OTIZZ,
Whay do you need a new BIOS for your Vid Card anyway? Vid Cards are not mobos. The first BIOS 99.99% of the time they get it right.

  • VGA Bios states "Engineering Release"

    Hi Folks,
I recently installed the K7N2G-LISR MB for a family member. After delivery I noticed the message in the VGA Bios of "Engineering Sample, not for production use" in the POST. Now, before I get my shorts in a twist, is this refering to the MB or can this be resolved by updating the BIOS? I got the board from a local shop with a good history. Any thoughts?
                                               Thanks!

Fill out an online technical support form at:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/msiforms/c_problem_desc_form3.asp.
Explain that you have a reference BIOS, and that you need to upgrade to the latest revision.  I did this for my 6200 that had the same problem; within one business day, MSI emailed me a new BIOS.  For those of you that have the MSI NX6200AX 128, you can download the BIOS they sent me from my website:

  • What's with updating VGA bios? Is this necessary if your hardware is fine?

How much improvement does it do really? Does it make the images look better? Does the fps improve fignificantly, if at all? Does it make the card cooler? Some treat it like a wonder cure. Is it?

VGA BIOS update is only issued to address a particular issue, you should only update it if absolutely necessary!!
Updating your VGA BIOS won't make your card faster, run cooler, or make images look better. But if it goes wrong, it will make your card dead!
