List to address book

Hi I have a new mac mini and I what to convert a list of names and emails and put them in my address book and the conversion is proving to be troublesome.
Thank you
Dan

From the Help screens:
If you can’t import contacts
If you have problems importing contacts, you can verify the format of the contact information or check permissions.
Try these suggestions:
Make sure the contact information is in a vCard, LDIF (LDAP Data Interchange Format), or tab-delimited or comma-separated value (CSV) text file. To verify the file format, in the Finder, select the file you’re trying to import and choose File > Get Info. The General section displays the kind of file it is.
Review the content of a tab-delimited or CSV file using a text editing application such as TextEdit, for problems that could cause the import to fail (for example, extra line breaks or spaces).

  • When printing a list in Address Book, how can I select more than the default Attributes and keep them selected when I print again? I want to print ALL information for contacts so I have email address, notes, phone, company, title, etc all on one page.

When printing a list in Address Book, how can I select more than the default Attributes and keep them selected when I print again? I want to print ALL information for contacts so I have email address, notes, phone, company, title, etc all on one page. I don't want to have to check off an additional 5 or 6 attributes each time I print out contact information. Is there a way to change the default setting for printing lists, so it is not just "phone," "photo," and "job title?"

I have a user who wants to do this same thing. I did not find any way either to default the attributes to anything other than what you see the first time. Seems like such a trivial thing, hard to believe they do not allow it. I did find a program for this called iDress but I can't seem to download it from any links on the Internet. Not sure if it is free or not, but it was recommended by a link on the Mac support site.

  • Creating lists in address book

Help! I have details in my address book of members of our club together in a group, I wish to create lists for our members showing all details ie address phone nos email etc... with 2 columns on A4 page similar to labels, (cannot do this choosing a label format as it does not give options to add fields).
The pocket address book is very untidy could not find a way of customizing this(cuts details in half at bottom of page), the 'list' option available only shows 7 people's details per page too many pages to print to give to the members.
I am a bit of a novice at this, can anyone suggest a solution please?

Hello Golden Shoes, further to your reply I am disappointed there is not a satisfactory solution to my simple requirement. I managed a result it worked, however I feel it was a bodged one, after a lot of effort & frustration as I am not an expert, in précis I did the following:
Address book -services- text edit then 'list' in address book (select fields required) then 'open PDF in preview' on desktop - select - edit - copy & paste on the text edit document- save as RTF document.
I then amended, deleted, made spaces of the information which was shown in one long column. Then used help for 'columns' info.
Used 3 columns on each page, cut & pasted the information as required. Now I have a list of names & addresses to give to our members on 2 pages only instead of 'list' which is 5.
I can amend this list as required.
Laborious, untidy, unsatisfactory, frustrating, it would have been great if a labels format was possible to show addresses, e-mail & phone nos.
I would be interested in your further comments, thank you.

And your destination user uses a mac?
    Click on the group name.
Go to the menu File > Export VCard . . .
Save that file and send it.
The recipient should  go to File > Import to import your list.

They come alphabetized by last name by default. You can change this in the preferences and sort them by name.

  • Is it possible to keep Contact List and Address Book seperate on iPhone?

I just made the switch today- big time – from Motorola to iPhone, and from PC to iMac, plus a Macbook Air as well for travel. Thanks to iphone and Mac forums I have been able to resolve most newbie issues and have exported my data, files and contacts without problem.
However there is one issue I have not been able to resolve or clarify:
    - My old phone contact list has now been transferred my new iPhone, consisting of about 100 phone numbers which I use regularly.
    - Address Book in my new iMac contains about 800 contacts including phone numbers, clients, etc, as well as personal bank account numbers, and other confidential data in the “Notes” field, which I need to refer to only occasionally.
But I understand that if I sync my iPhone with my Mac, it will merge my Address Book contacts on Mac, with the phone contacts on my iPhone Contact list, into one list. Is this true? Is it not possible to maintain 2 separate Apps on my iPhone, i.e
    1. The iPhone Contact list for frequently used telephone contacts, and
    2. The Mac Address Book with more detailed notes and account numbers, which I only need to refer to occasionally?
    3. If this is possible, can I configure it so that a password is required each time the Address Book on iPhone is accessed? (I realise I can configure the iphone to require a pin when turned on), but I would like a password to access the Address App because of the confidential data. Previously I had all this data contained on a Palm Zire 72 handheld and its PC Desktop counterpart, where a password was required to access.
From what I’ve read on the forums, it will be very cumbersome to have a phone contact list with 1000 names on it, so I want to keep phone contacts simple with phone numbers only. (I realise I can set up Group folders in Address Book, but this is not what I need). I'm also concerned about having confidential information on my iPhone which can be accessed without a password for that particular application. I intend to get MobileMe but that also does not address the issue of keeping Telephone Contacts seperate from Address Book on iPhone.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Speculating:
if, as already suggested, you use the Groups function to sync only the 100 contact list numbers, then how to get the expanded Address Book?
I've not used it myself, but Bento might be worth looking into--Bento on the Mac pulls your Address Book data (I'm pretty sure) and syncs to Bento iPhone.
I don't recall hearing about any alternate phone books, but since pretty much any program on the Mac can hook into the Address Book, you might look at the more powerful note organizers to see if any of them pull that data?
You might have a problem getting notes added on the phone back into Address Book on the Mac, though.
I actually right now keep my main address book in MS Entourage (similar to Outlook), and only use the Mac Address Book to sync to the iPhone. I could sync Entourage to Address Book, but I don't--haven't sorted out the data yet, and I don't really need all the same numbers in both places.
If that sounds possible, you might look at Mark/Space and Missing Sync for iPhone---something like keeping all 800 contacts in Entourage, and syncing them all, but moving the confidential portion of each contact into Entourage Notes and syncing those via Missing Sync, perhaps might work. (I think you can link a contact to a note in Entourage)
An interesting problem. You might also send feedback to Apple:
    http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
as this is really not a usage scenario they've planned for. They probably don't care, though--doesn't seem all that common.

  • How can I copy a mailing list into address book without having to type them individualy

    Hi
I have a mailing list and I would like to send emails to everyone on the list in one go, I copied and pasted the list into my email, but can I have this group somewhere so that I can just call it up like an ordinary address from the address book, preferably without having to type every name individualy into the address book. I tried making a group in the address book and pasting the list in without success,if this is possible can some explain how I can acheive this
    Thankyou
    Richard

    Richard,
Unfortunately, you have to add them one at a time - wait a sec... oh, yeah, if the contact is in your contact list it will 'auto-fill' as you begin to type. So if I want Wendy Whatshername, all I have to do is type Wen and the contacts will show up for you to select and auto-fill the name and email address.
    Hope this helps,
    Clinton

  • Problem of PI am having a weird problem in prinrinting List in Address Book

I am having a weird problem in printing a list of addresses in Address Book. The odd number pages (1,3,5,etc.) print fine but the even number pages move the phone numbers from the third column and prints them over the second column's address and Note fields. Anybody know what is going on here? I have tried the Roll Call Directory software suggested by one respondent on another printing problem and while it is very nice, it seems to have its own quirks (Splits the information when it reaches the bottom left column of a two column set-up or prints at the top left column of the next page when it reaches the end of the right column instead of keeping the address intact in one spot).

P.S. To as to this problem. I tried printing some more pages of the address list and now while some of the odd numbered pages seem OK as you go along it switches to some of the even numbered pages being OK with the odd numbered pages having the third column shifting to overprint on part of the 2nd column. In addition, I can't print envelopes since the program simply does nothing or crashes when the print button is selected.

  • Global Address List and Address Book

I have MS Exchange server 2007 and Active Directory at my school. I have moved all of my teachers to Mac and everything is right with the world, until this morning. I noticed that the global address lis in Active Directory does not show up in the Address Book application, which means that educators can't use the parent address found in AD in order to make class email lists. I can't find any solutions online. Is there a way to get Address Book to show the Global Address list? The Mail app searches the GAL just fine.

  • Edit Distribution List in Address Book is gray

After updating to Lion OS 10.7, the Edit Distribution List menu selection is grayed out. How do we edit Distribution List (Groups) with contacts with multiple email addresses?

The key is that the Contact List is now being kept in the Cloud & you cannot edit the Distribution List in your Mac's Address Book.
    Easy Fix:
    Quit your Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Uncheck the CONTACTS icon
    Close Sys Pref
Open Address Book - Edit your Distribution Lists (No longer Greyed out)
    Quit Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Check the CONTACTS icon
You should be good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • Printing lists in Address Book

I am trying to print out a group of entries, all arranged by Company name. I would also like the person's name associated with that company printed as well, but it's not showing up when I check off "Name" in the print dialog.
    Suggestions?

    Hi Keith,
I followed the steps in the article below, and chose Show Details at the bottom of the print window.
In the Style section, I chose List
In the Attributes, I chose Phone
I zoomed in the Preview window and the telephone numbers appeared as I had entered them.

  • Distribution lists in Address Book don't stay set

I have several groups I e-mail regularly and many of the people on the lists have multiple e-mail addresses. I know to go to Edit Distribution List to select which one I want that group message to be sent to, but the selections don't seem to stay selected for that list...is there some way of saving the selections for a distribution list that I am missing? Am not sure whether the people with multiple addresses are just not getting the messages when they aren't selected or whether the message is going to all their e-mail addresses, neither of which is desirable.

Talked with AppleCare yesterday and was informed that this behavior is "normal"--whenever you close Address Book, it "forgets" the Distribution List choices you made. Apparently the only way to have someone in your Address book with different e-mail addresses that you use for different group mailings on a regular basis (in my case, folks on both the Chamber of Commerce list with their business e-mail and the Arts Alert list with their home e-mail), is to create duplicate cards for those individuals. One more aggravation in my efforts to be a good neighbor/volunteer who distributes useful information to others for free. If anyone knows another way to accomplish this, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it.

  • Addresses from Exchange Server not listed in Address Book

My new 17" MacBook Pro with Leopard 10.6.1 has hooked up with our exchange server just great! I see my exchange account in the Address Book but the contacts in the Exchange Global List are not listed. If I do a search, the search returns proper addresses, but only with a search. The icon before the Exchange account is blue instead of the brown one for the other mail groups. All of my manually entered addresses are there. Is there a way to have the addresses from Exchange downloaded and synchronized with Address Book so they are visible all the time?

Same problem here. The contacts from Address book are copied to the Nokia, but the contacts in Nokia are not copied to the Address book

  • Unable to edit distribution list in address book?

Under address Book edit, the edit distribution list is greyed out. I have several groups that i need to correct the default email, but since I have upgraded to Lion, I have been unable to do this. These are not smart groups. I was able to do this with Snow Leopard but I cannot

And icloud has its own (issues) and Community.
There are support pages for every product, use the tab "Support"
    or go to: http;//www.apple.com/support/mail /cloud /lion /macbookpro
and this is NOT a forum devoted to macbook or laptops. but to 65lb towers
