List View Column width

Hi:
Just wondering if there is a way to adjust the column widths in list view?
thanks,
Ed

To clarify, I mean the MAX column width. I would like it wider than its current maximum width.
Thanks!

  • Mavericks Will Not Retain Finder List-View Column Resizing

I've noticed this to occur at the root level of my hard disk in Finder.  A visual will work best:
The "User Guides and Information" folder is truncated at the root level of my Hard Disk.  I will then manually resize the column:
When I close out this window via the red close circle, and re-open, Finder will not remember my custom column view.  It will revert back to the previously truncated state.
Oddly enough, I've found Finder to correctly preserve custom list view columns when you drill down a level (such as my custom column views inside of my Applications folder, for example).

I managed to find a solution that sorts the problem out for the time being till maybe Apple rectifies it.  It is to open Finder and have it expanded to fit the screen.  I don't know the proper names of things but in the heading that says Name etc, right click that so that you get a list of other things that can go in that heading, like Date Modified, Date Created etc.
Tick one or two that you don't need, like Tags for example.  The purpose of those extra headings are to fill the column space at the right hand side of Finder so that it keeps the columns that you DO want on the left hand side kept in the same place.  Once you've got all the headings and columns, move the width of the ones you want to the size that you want, making sure that the ones that you don't want, like Tags, on the right hand side totally fills up the rest of the column space.
This makes the full page Finder column space full up so that the columns you want don't end up shrinking every time you open Finder.  Return Finder to the size that you usually use, adjust the width of your wanted columns to the size that you want and it should stay in place because the rest of the space in Finder is filled with the unwanted columns you chose, but which are hidden from view on the far right hand side of Finder, if you've got Finder smaller than the full screen, that is.
Ever since I did this with my columns (in List view) my columns remain where I have set them.  (I hope you understand all that OK).

  • Change Bridge Default List View Columns

I only view specific image information and am continually moving the list view column headers around.
Is there a way that you can set the default list view columns to display only what you need?

Is there a way that you can set the default list view columns to display only what you need?
You can create your own custom workspaces using the triangle next left to the search field top right Bridge window and choose new workspace.
First you have to define your workspace by resizing or moving the panels to other locations (grab a panel tab and it will be surrounded by bleu lines, move to other location. A horizontal line means as a row in a column. A vertical line creates a column (max 3) and a surrounding line puts it in the same location as an extra tab.
Use either menu view / list or use the default Metadata workspace that also shows list view.
You can right click on the title of the column in list view and from the sub menu choose to insert or close certain columns. This is rather limited in options and the name column can't be altered at all (logically I would think…)
Try playing around and when satisfied save it as new workspace and you can always revert to it by clicking on the workspace name and sometimes also needing to use the reset workspace button (workspaces are still far from perfect but in its current state also proved to be very useful).

  • Customizing List View Column Location

Can anyone help me remember how I take off certain columns in List View such as Lens, Orientation etc?
I am looking in the Customizing Aperture Workspace section of the Help and I can't seem to find this.
    TIA

Sorry, was getting some _very_ important work done -- have a mega-big project going out the door -- here's the top link from a search of the User Manual for "List View Column":

  • How can I set a default finder list view column size?

    Hi,
I am having a bit of an issue here.
I like to use the list view in finder.
I want to set the name column to a certain size globally, so that all folders display the name at the same width.
However, currently I resize the column in the folder I'm working in, change folder and return to the original folder and the size has returned to the defaults.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Hold down the Option key and drag the vertical column right or left as needed.
Close that Finder window then open a new one. See if that worked.
It's working for me in Mountain Lion v10.8.4

  • Address Book Print list view column format

Is there a way of changing the column width of the List View when printing the contacts in Address Book? I select all contacts, check the boxes for address and notes and send so PDF in Preview. The left hand column (Names) takes nearly half the page width. The center column with all the addresses, e-mails and notes is very narrow, which causes the text to wrap in the middle of the address or e-mail.
If it can't be changed, does anyone know of an application that will use the address book data and allow me to format pages to my specification?

Thank you KT. I downloaded the utility and was able to create a tab delimited file from Address Book. I also imported the data into Numbers but I could not produce a report format I wanted. I was afraid I was forced to copy the data into Windows and use one of the many address book formatters.
I kept searching the web and read about Palm Desktop for Mac but that did not include the Notes field. Last night, I believe I found a reasonable solution, it is called "Address Book Reports" by Scruffy Software. There are choices of format and page size. I will try it out today and if it's OK will send the $15 shareware fee.

  • List View COLUMN organization does not stick

i have been trying to organized the columns (left to right) so that, for instance, the size of the file and the pixel dimensions of the file show up right next to the name. i have been doing this in an Album (at least today) but i have not been seeing this "stick" as i seem to have to do it every time i open Aperture and need to see this List View in an organized way.
can anyone help me with what i am not understanding here or what i am doing wrong?
    TIA

i would like to take out everything except pixel size and file size and i am forgetting where this happens or what it is called.
    When you use View->Metadata Display->Customize,
to select the columns to display in list view, as Frank Caggiano pointed out, you can also configure the display order of the list items. Just drag the items in the "Display order" pane into the order you want. And this order will stick between restarts of Aperture, at least it does this in my version. So use this panel to arrange the columns, rather than dragging the columns around.
BTW: if you configure the display order also for the Browser view, and select to show the filesize and pixelsize first, in the metadata overlay, you can display the images with the filesize shown in the Browser.

  • Displaying a single List View Column in a page of narrative

    Can anyone help.
I have created a list view with a single line i.e. (ID, Name, Dept = 1, "Joe Bloggs", "Finance")
Is there anyway that I can display the Name "Joe Bloggs" on a site page full of narrative?
i.e. The only member of the Finance team in this list is Joe Bloggs.
Is there a PowerShell command that will return the column data?
    Any help appreciated.

  • Permanently Widen Finder View Column Width

I am familiar with the method to get a full/wider view of a Finder column when I'm there, but the column width goes back to its original width when the Finder is closed. Any way that anyone knows to set and maintain a wide column view after closing Finder?

It should remain at the size where you left it.
Maybe some fuzz in Finder prefs.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash com.apple.finder.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You might have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Can I lock in a finder list mode column width?

Can I lock in a finder column width in list mode?
When I open a finder window in List Mode, the Date Modified column is always 6-8 inches to the right of the Name column.
This is very irritating because I often have to drag the window larger just to find the next column and then drag them closer to the Name column.
Even if all file names are short, the nearest colums are far away.
    This is very un Apple.
    Thanks.

Thanks CtDave.  I don't have anything besides the free reader, so I did some further research on the web and found a solution that is pretty "brute force", but is an option for others that only have the free reader.  Here is a link to the full description:
    http://superuser.com/questions/306803/zooming-size-of-pdf-files-and-bookmarks
Here is the basics:  You can use a text editor and edit the PDF file.  Once in the text editor you can search for /FitH or /Fit (there surely are other codes, but those are the only ones I know of).  These are codes that tell Acrobat what kind of zoom level to apply to the destination of a jump.  So the bookmarks should all have these.  Simply do a search and replace with /XYZ.  The /XYZ code tells Acrobat to leave the zoom level as it already is.
It might sound a bit weird, but I tried it on multiple files I was having trouble with and it worked great.  Of course, my suggestion would be to make backup copy of the file before doing this in case something goes wrong.
    Thanks.

  • Changing datasheet view column width prompts for logon

Hello - I have a SharePoint 2010 farm at work that we are having undesirable logon prompts on at times. A reproducible example is the datasheet view of any library in our site. When a user switches from standard view to datasheet view & then resizes
a column, a logon dialogue box pops up. They can enter their username or cancel - either way they are allowed to continue. This occurs the first time the user tries to make a change to the column width, but not on subsequent attempts. If the view is reloaded
& they attempt to change the width again the logon box pops up again. Users only have read-only access to the view, so they cannot modify it. The 'Modify View' control in the ribbon bar is greyed out.
Background info: Clients are using Windows 7 SP1, Internet Explorer 10 (in compatibility view mode), and MS Office Pro Plus 2010 SP2. SharePoint is 2010 SP1 & June 2011 CU V1 (I know, we need to patch). The site is setup to use NTLM integrated authentication.
All PCs are configured via GPO to add the site to the local Intranet zone. The intranet zone is configured via GPO with medium-low settings & automatic logon in the intranet zone. I have verified the GPO propagation to client PCs and verified that
IE settings are correct for windows integrated authentication to take place.
    Any help is appreciated
    ~james

I am thinking this behavior is not by design. In my environment this is what happens:
A standard user (no modify view rights) changes a column width & gets prompted for credentials. It does not matter what they do - cancel, use own credentials, or use someone else's credentials (with modify rights) - the results are the same.
The view is not changed for everyone, just the local user. The change only applies to the current page load.
Users with modify view rights see no logon prompt.
I just installed Office 2013 with my test VM & the unwanted logon prompt is gone. My opinion is this is an unresolved issue with the Access Web Datasheet, 2010-version active-x plugin. It appears to have been fixed with Access 2013.
I'm going to do some more testing, but this is looking like another reason for an upgrade to Office 2013.
I tried changing the compatibility view settings, user agent string, Browser Mode, and Document Mode. None of the different combinations I tried had any effect on the logon prompt issue.
    Any other ideas?
    thanks

  • Finder list view name column keeps resizing!

I mainly use list view in Finder, and I mainly use windows (as opposed to fullscreen) because I like dragging and dropping between them (dragging and dropping in fullscreen with tabs is rather cumbersome).
Anyway, the name column keeps resizing on me, going from what I have it set to (usually double-clicked to make it fit all filenames) to suddenly being small enough that all the other columns fit in the window without a horizontal scroll bar. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Yosemite and happens every time I open a new Finder window, expand a folder, move a file, etc. It's incredibly frustrating!
I was surprised to not find much about this problem mentioned around the web, so I imagine it must be some setting or something specific to my machine. Any help in figuring out how to make it stop doing this would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Sorry, no, preferences in the sense of what I prefer, but I believe view options (command J) are stored in DS_Store files, as well as list view column data, such as date added, date modified, name, kind, size, etc (except for some folders such as network, computer and meetingroom/airdrop?) which are stored in com.apple.finder.plist).  You probably know that you can select which columns display in view options.  Perhaps a temporary workaround would be to switch off other visible columns to display only name or name and one other preferred column to increase space available.  However, myself and another suspect this the problems I described as a bug, and I would have to think your issue is part of that bug.  It seems all related, no? For example, in my Downloads folder, I select to hide "Date Modified", show "Date Added", and arrange by "Date Added".  Maybe it will still show if I close the window and reopen the Downloads folder, maybe it will not, maybe it will change completely to Icon View despite have "always open in list view" being selected in view options.  In any case, after a restart, it will revert back to list view, with "Date Modified" showing and being arranged by "Name".
Sent feedback to apple, maybe will help if you do as well:

  • Display more columns in list view?

Is there any way to display more than the standard columns (filename, dates, size, &c.) in list view in the Finder?  If it's possible to search for other attributes (author, EXIF info, &c.) using the find function, why can't this information also be displayed as list view columns?

Additonally, one could send bug reports and enhancement requests to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. Register as an Apple Developer—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. If you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug/ER ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.

  • No list view in iPad Air calendar?

In Calendar on the iPad Air, there doesn't seem to be any way to view all your calendar events as a chronological list of events (I.e., "list view"). Can this be true? I've been trying to find it for hours.

    Madhuri,
I have tried the way you mentioned by using non-sap(MSSQL) bakend with ipad platform. It is working fine for me when i have tested the app in ATE.
Once try to cross check with my procedure once.
1.I have three objects Customer, orders, products.Orders object is collection to customer,Product Object is collection to orders.
2.I have defined 'show order tile' screen set for order object with one detail screen that contains order id and customer id.
3.Defined another screen set 'show order tile selected' for order object This details screen  contains all the fields in the order object. Now i have defined as mentioned by you a field with edit type as 'list view'-->check whether all the settings are done correctly in this field->height(20),collection(In my example Products),List view columns(Product Name)->that means the list view will display all the product names of the selected order object.
4.Go to 'show customer details screen set' ,define a detail screen, add a field with edit type as 'list tile view'->set the collection to orders, list tile view settings->screensets->row ->show order tile screen set
selected ->show order tile selected screen set
5.Publish and test in ATE.For your understanding iam inserting the screen shot that i have done.
Please try to map the screen sets and objects in my example.....Hope this may be a bit helpful for you.
