List view in Address Book

I have recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, but notice in Address Book that prefixes(Mr, Mrs etc) do not appear in the list view, but do on the card. In Leopard the prefixes appear in both views. Is this just a fault in the program, or can it be rectified?

I'm going to bump this up - I, too have this problem/question. Any suggestions?

  • I am trying to export only an individual list from my address book. I can only export the entire address book. No way to decipher it once in Excel either.

I hate to admit how much time I have spent on this issue. I have been trying to separate just the "lists" from within my T-Bird address book, and export them (again, just the names on those individual lists) into a csv or tab delimited file, so I can import it into one of the newer mail programs.
Honestly I have been trying to figure out my way around this for years. "Lists" have always been clunky and difficult to work with. Lots of unpredictablity, and you can only go so long in the list before it will no longer send, and you need to create a new one. I send these out for a business, with some customers going back ten years or more.
Since I have never been able to figure it out, I just keep using T-Bird for this, even though its never worked reliably.
Recently I have been forced into a change. The "lists" will no longer send emails that are received by recipients. Probably some new spam or security things out there. No emails send. Now I have to do something, but to retype hundreds of names from scratch is just not the kind of thing that gives me joy.
I would be eternally grateful to the person who can help...

    This add-on may help:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
I've had this add-on for so long that I can't remember what it does and does not provide.
If you select a List in your Address Book, so that its contents display at the right, does "Export" not write just the Lists's member Contacts out to the csv file?
It does here, but this may be thanks to the above-mentioned add-on.

  • How do I create a separate Address Book? I'm not asking about a mailing list but an address book where the addresses are not mixed in with my regular address b

How do I create a separate Address Book? I'm not asking about a mailing list but an address book where the addresses are not mixed in with my regular address book. I already have three address books created for me by Thunderbird. I add all new addresses to one of those but am afraid to delete the other address books because some of their addresses are not repeated in my "main" address book. So if I don't delete all the names in one of the existing books, I need to create an empty book that will not mix the addresses with those in another address book. HOW DO I CREATE A NEW, EMPTY ADDRESS BOOK? I want to be able to create various mailing LISTS using the addresses in this new book so I will eventually have a special address book with a variety of mailing lists I can use as I wish.

In 24.4.0 there is no File|New|Address Book. There is File|New|Address Book Contact. How do I create a new address book ?

  • View all address book contacts?

I've used Outlook on my work PC for the last couple of years. One feature I like is the ability to view all contacts at once, in a grid view, when you click the Contacts button. Is there a Mac Mail plugin that would give me a similar view of my Address Book contacts? Thanks.

well you could print the address book to PDF. but that only give you a list in a grip. You wouldn't be able to edit the contacts. You could get entourage for the mac (Microsoft's version of outlook for the mac)

  • Viewing my address book by Company

Hi, I changed to MAIL. I am using Address Book now. Is there any way to see the cards order by Company instead of by Name?
    Thanks
    Lourdes
    g4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I too just switched from Entourage and wanted to view by company. I went though all my contacts and clicked company. I purchased an iPhone and what I found out is that because it was listed as company vs. person - I couldn't send them emails from the iPhone - it was attaching the company name to the email address - thus making it an incorrect email address. I had to go back through and unselect company and then I was able to send mail from the iPhone. That issue didn't happen if I was using Mail on my machine though.
I did find out that if you search for a company - all the people that are associated with that company comes up (even if the company box isn't selected).

  • How can I migrate my group lists with my address book?

I have moved from Windows XP to Ubuntu (YEAH!). I was using TB in XP and I was able to successfully move my address book with all of my contacts' information by copying and pasting the abook.mab file. But I seem to have lost (or at least I am currently missing) the group lists that I had created using that address book. Where is that information stored and how do I transfer it to TB in Ubuntu? Is it as simple as copying another certain file or will I have to extract and then import some information from some file(s)? Those group lists were almost as important as the address book itself and I made the assumption (yes, I know!) that the group list info was integral to the address book itself. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

No, I did not export and then import the address book. I just copied the .mab file. Is that what I have to do? Is there another file, or portion thereof, that I can just copy across? I have all those #appdata# files saved, but i do not have Windows running anymore. I have also now noticed that my "Collected Addresses" were not contained in the abook.mab file either. It would be good if I could recover them too.
Thanks again for any help. Much appreciated!

  • How can I copy a large number of contacts into a list in the address book?

I want to send a message to a large fraction of the people in my address book. How do I copy their addresses into a new list without doing it by hand?

Thanks for your answer. It works very poorly. I have tried a number of permutations, and each one fails in some way. If I try to copy ten names, it may just write the first few. if I highlight all the names in the source book, then the list name doesn't highlight when I move my cursor over it - only the other address books do that. I got the closest to success by exporting my entire source address book to a text file, removing the unwanted names by hand, and then importing only a few fields to a new address book - name and email address. When I highlight all the entries in this new address book and drag them to the target list, it copies MOST but not all of the entries. I have never seen drag and drop work so poorly. Any ideas?

  • How to revert to Classic view in Address Book?

I tried to use it, but this NEW look of Address Book in LION is just a worthless pile of junk!
Not only is fake book look out of place and a ridiculous addition to a MODERN OS, but I'm also getting sick of the new trend to hide info that was once easy to see with no extraneous need for interaction.
This new 2 column view is full of new extra mouse clicks.
I want the old CLEAN CLASSIC 3 COLUMN VIEW back!!
I want to see "Groups", "Names" and "Individual" info all at the same times!

The 10.8 Beta is under NDA, which is why I did not want to get more specific. I am one of the testers and can assure Address Book salvation there. But I still think it should be fixed in 10.7 as well…

  • How can I send someone a 'list' from my address book?

I see that you can't from one of the previous answers. So I tried to 'export' the 'list'. I don't see how you can do that. If I highlite the list, it exports the entire address book (1600+0 items and I can't edit that down to my 40 member list. So what else can I do?

    Try this add-on: https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
    According to its author's webpage:
''- gives the possibility to import and export a single contact or a list;''
And this very evening I have used it myself to export an address book whilst investigating a query about sending to multiple addresses. The add-on let me export a Mailing List so I could create a file containing a list of valid email addresses.

  • I want to send a small email to 23 people on a list in my address book and thunderbird says the message is too large?

I have an address book list of 23 names. I want to send a small, 4 paragraph email to all. When I try to send it, I get an error message which says that the message exceeds the temporary size limit of the server. I've sent messages in the past to the same internet provider with no problem. Is the size limit because of the number of recipients or is it the size of the message?

    Check with your email provider.

  • ABP applied in OWA not in Outlook. Users see Default GAL and all address lists, regardless of address book policies.

During a company merger a standard exchange org was converted to a multi-tenant setup. Problem: Address Book Policies not applied in Outlook, users see all address lists and default GAL. However, in OWA its all as expected, users see only what is allowed
    by the ABP.
We followed the steps outlined in the MUlti-Tenancy and Hosting Guidance for Exchange Server 2010 SP2
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28192
    It's EXCH 2010 SP3.
    Any idea would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Please check whether the Default GAL changed in Outlook Online mode. The issue maybe occur when an Offline Address Book which is used for Outlook cached mode is not updated.
    Please run the following command:
    Get-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook
In Outlook client, we can do the following steps in Outlook to download Offline Address Book to check whether the issue persists:
    1. Delete the *.oab files in the following folders in local machine:
         \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books
    2. Create a new Outlook profile that uses Cached Exchange Mode.
    3. Start Outlook 2010 with this new profile.
    4. In the ribbon click Send / Receive, click
Send/Receive Groups and then click Download Address Book.
Then check whether the Address Book is updated or not.

  • Problems with mailing list in mail & address book

I have all my email in address book and I update my mass email list every few months.  The problem is that not everyone wants to be in my email list so I have them excluded from my list which means updating my list is a bit more onerous--I cannot just cut and paste my entire email list and put it into a new mass email list.
    So here are my questions:
    1. how can I update this list without having to do it one by one?
    2. is there a way address book automatically excludes  those people who have no email in their contact info?
    3. if there is no way to do this in address book, is there a third party software that does this? (ie. that will know which addresses are already present, which are not to be added and so forth)
    Thanks in advance!

Just add another condition by pressing the + sign on the right.  "Company"  "is not set".
Make sure the it must match "all" conditions.
    Regards,

  • How can I merge or combine two email address lists in my address book?

When I transferred my address book from one computer to a second computer which already had an address book, the address lists did not combine so I now have duplicate lists. I would like to combine all these list into one list. How can I do this?

Paste is not mentioned once in the instructions. You select all and then click and drag them to the new book folder and drop them there.

  • Wish list: Voice recorder & address book

I would love to have a built-in voice recorder for recording memos. Doesn't seem that hard to do.
I would also love to have an icon for the address book, a la OS X, instead of having to go through the phone icon.
    How about BlueTooth syncing?
What other things would people like to see added?
dual 2.0 GHz G5, 4 GB RAM, 2 TB HD SATA RAID   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   MacBook Pro, dual 1.25 GHz G4, iMac core Duo

For voice memo...have you tried leaving yourself voicemail?
You can ask Apple for iPhone changes via this link:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html Though if you're requesting hardware changes for iPhone v2 you may want to wait a week (or a month?)...they're probably going to be inundated right now by requests for software changes to the current iPhone.
