did you check the listener log ??? what does that says...?? anything in there?? I had a same issue once, but after rebooting the server it went away and the listener was up every since....later found out there was a hung process that was interpting with the listener....they were running on the same port...

  • EM12c Oracle Database Plug-In 12.1.0.7 update now shows 10g listener as down when it's not

    EM 12.1.0.4 with Oracle Database Plug-in 12.1.0.7
    Monitored database and listener:  10.2.0.4
Our EM12c monitors 12.1,11.2 and 10.2 databases and listeners.  All monitored targets are up and running.
I updated Oracle Database Plug-in from 12.1.0.6 to 12.1.0.7 and now the only 10g listener that I have shows as down.
The listener on the server is up and running.
    The monitoring configuration is right.
I removed this target and re-added it, but it came back as down.
It's a little disconcerting to have a listener show as down since it's a production box, but nothing I do corrects the problem.
Any insights or suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi Sherrie,
In most cases we have this issue due to monitoring configuration , I know you mentioned that you have checked on it but still I would recommend to just re-confirm on below steps
    1. Go to
EM Console -> Targets -> Listener -> Listener Home page -> Target Setup -> Monitoring Configuration
    2. Get the details
          Listener Name
          Listener.ora Directory
          Machine Name
          Oracle Home
          TCP Port Numbe
    3. Go to the server where this listener is running
Check to see if the listener is up
           ps -ef | grep tns
    4. Next run
           $ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl status
From this outpuy verify details in (1)
          Listener Name   <======= Alias
Listener.ora Directory <=== Listener Parameter File ie the directory
          Machine Name  <======= HOST=
Oracle Home<========== This is where tnslsnr is started from
          TCP Port Number <======  PORT=
    5. Makes sure that all the details matches in (4) and (2)
If above is fine then I would recommend to go through the troubleshooting steps as per below doc , they are valid for listener status down too and should give a further insight on the root cause of the issue

  • 12c - Listener shows down

I added a host to 12c and it discovered database. Listener shows down. The listener on the host is actually up. 12c is looking for listener.ora file in a specific directory (TSN_ADMIN) but the file is in $TNS_ADMIN/SID_host directory. How do I manually correct the configuration so that the agent knows where the listener.ora file is? I looked everywhere but I can't find a location in 12c where I can put in the location of listener.ora file.
I want to update this target's "LISTENER.ORA Location" parameter with the location of the currently running Listener. How do I do this? Thanks.

    >
Go to the homepage of the listener target, and select Oracle Listener > Target Setup > Monitoring Configuration. You can then specify an appropriate value in the Listener.ora Directory field.

Pls share your views on this scenario.

32-bit Windows Error: 233: Unknown errorNot too familiar with how Oracle's processing architecture works on Windows - never used Oracle really on Windows. I suspect that the Listener will call something like +[CreateThread()|http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms682453(VS.85).aspx]+ (or CreateRemoteThread() ) to start a dedicated server process.
This calls fails. The reason for the underlaying (root cause) Win32 error you're seeing.
This can fail for a number of reasons.. the most likeliest being insufficient resources (memory specifically) being available for that thread to be created.
The MSDN article I've linked to above says:
    >
The number of threads a process can create is limited by the available virtual memory. By default, every thread has one megabyte of stack space. Therefore, you can create at most 2,048 threads. If you reduce the default stack size, you can create more threads. However, your application will have better performance if you create one thread per processor and build queues of requests for which the application maintains the context information. A thread would process all requests in a queue before processing requests in the next queue
    >
Of course, this assumption is that the CreateThread() call is used. Oracle could be using fibres or some other Win32 call.. but in principle, that call is failing and is why you are seeing this error.
Oracle supports shared server process architecture on Win32 too. This should (I suspect) reduce the memory footprint of server threads. You may want to investigate this option.

  • External Procedure Listener shows Down when it is Up

I have a separate listener for our extproc calls. OEM doesn't find a port associated with this listener so it can't ping it and therefore says it is down. Is there some way to get OEM to identify that this listener is up?

    Nicolas,
Yes I am able to run processes regardless the showing status of prcs ?
I figured out what the problem is.
It looks like the Process Schedular ran into a Oracle bug where the uptime of the machine cannot be > 248 days. Although this bug should not affect 10.2.0.4 database.
It seems to me that PeopleTools 8.22.15 -- Process Scheduler is still affected by it.
I rebooted my AIX unix server and all started working fine.
    Thanks

  • Why my OEM reporting that listener is down?

    Hi All,
    11.2.0.1
    Linux 6
If I login via putty and check listener, it is ok. But my listener is configured as listener2 because I have other database with its own listerner1 name.
But why is that if I use OEM, it is asking for the default LISTENER with port 1521. Hence it is reporting as down. What can not it see the other configured LISTENER2???
    Thanks,
    pK

I was just thinking that each app&db(which have different db versions) will independent on their own. If I retart app1+db1, it will not affects app2+db2. Sometimes our app need listeners to be restarted. I will also test DG on this machine, will DG on 11.2.0.1 listeners will be ok if I used the listener of 11.2.0.3?
Sometimes our app need listeners to be restarted.
I'd like to see the technical justification for this statement.  The listener is just a connection broker.  It receives a connection request, sets up the requested connection, then is out of the picture.  What action on the app could possibly cause a need for a listener restart?

The performance is much more increased in 11g compared to 9i.
    Issues:

    2) Second issue is my undo tablespace is getting filled very fast. It is not getting refreshed.

You are on Windows and due to a service not responding properly of listener, it may happen very easily on a Windows environment. No one here can tell you why it happened( though not often) . Did you check the listener's log file?
    2) Second issue is my undo tablespace is getting filled very fast It is not getting refreshed.Undo would be filled based on the activity you do. If you are doing a lots of transactions , generating the Undo blocks in large number, its a natural outcome. Undo retention would work for the committed transactions. You may want to check with the undo advisor for the recommended size of the Undo tablespace for your database.

  • JDeveloper Update Center frequently down

    Hi,
I've noticed that when I try to get download updates to JDeveloper through the update tool that I frequently am unable to download updates. It says my username/password is incorrect, but if I try often enough I can eventually download these updates.
So what's up? Is this a problem related to Oracle changing the content management system? Is it a problem with JDeveloper? Both? Something else?
Are other people experiencing these problems?

ok, the XSL file is back in place - just for you :-)

It's also a waste of my time. Thank you, Shane.
Your questions about connections from 127.0.0.1 are valid questions. The server tests itself, every 10 minutes. That's what you see in the logs.
The log only shows disconnect, at this loglevel. That's why you only see that.
    Both are normal.
you really need to apply 5.2patch2. It's free, and you get it here:

  • Db /listener down , application has to be restarted

Just want to clear , when db / listener went down, application also goes down, when db / listener are started , application dont start auto, may be if its programmed like that otherwise it need to be started manually...right

Applications console are different from database consoles.
If the listener is down application would be down but the processes running the application are still up.
So once the listener is up the application should be up automatically.
